So a guest named Hannah requested a Soul and Maka chapter and stated her birthday was today and 28 has such a beautiful number in it...anyway I thought of a story chapter for her and I'm using this as a chance to work on my fluff, I need more practice apparently... Happy birthday Hannah!
45) A Random Gift
Soul muttered several insults to the wrapping paper in his hands as he tried to ripe off a decent sized piece to wrapped the item sitting on his lap.
"Where are the damn scissors?" He asked himself and ended up dropping the roll in his search. The scythe let out a harsh curse and discovered that the scissors were sitting next to him. He let out an annoyed grunt and went on his hands and knees on the floor, the item falling along with him. Soul pulled the wrapping paper out and managed to cut of a way to big piece with a jagged end as well. "Good enough." He sighed and placed the item in the middle of the large rectangle. Soul soon realized he couldn't wrap it normally and he took the item to the edge of the paper and rolled it till the other end. Soul leaned back against the couch and grabbed the tape dispenser. The scythe took five pieces and laid them out unevenly against the wrapping paper. He tried to fold the other ends nicely but he saw that he failed after having to use half of the tape roll to get all of the edges flat. He was no Death the Kid, he didn't have enough OCD to make his wrapping look nice. Soul sat on the couch in defeat and played his his horribley wrapped gift.
"What's that?" Maka asked when she entered the room.
"Uh...happy birthday?" Soul said with a nervous smile and held out the present.
"It's not my birthday." Maka stated, taking the gift from Soul's hand.
"Happy Hanukkah."
"We're not Jewish and it's May."
"Christmas?"
"Soul." Maka snapped.
"Wear your pajamas to work day?"
"That was April eighteenth."
"East-"
"Will you stop?" Maka said with a laugh. Soul stood up, stomped one foot and clapped.
"Umpa!" He shouted and grabbed Maka's hands, spinning her around and singing gibberish.
"You don't know Hebrew." Maka laughed and had to sit down to calm her dizzy head.
"How do you know?" Soul asked and sat next to the girl.
"What is the name of the hat they wear?"
"Uh...skull caps."
"It's a Yamaka." Maka corrected her weapon and stood back up.
"How in the world do you know that ?"
"It's called reading, you should try it." Maka stuck her tongue out then started to unwrap her present. "How much wrapping paper did you use?" She asked as she shredded through multiple layers.
"I'm not good at wrapping presents."
"No shit Sherlock."
"Benedict Cumberbatch." Maka stopped and glared at the boy then finished removing the paper.
"The Shining?" Maka held up the large book.
"I watched the movie and I thought you'd like the book. Here's Johnny!"
"That never happens in the book."
"How do you know, you've never even read the thing yet."
"I'm not an idiot and Stephen wouldn't write a character saying something as idiotic as that."
"You sound like as if you actually know the man." Soul stated and stood up.
"I know you better." Maka said and leafed through the pages.
"I know you better than you know me." Soul said with a hint of a challenge in his voice.
"I know you better than Black-Star knows the comics in the library." Maka stated, taking a step back.
"I know you better than Liz knows the layout of the mall." Soul said, taking his step closer to Maka.
"I know you better than Tsubaki can cook." Maka got closer to the wall behind her.
"I know you better than Patty's obsession with giraffes." Soul got closer to Maka.
"I know you better than Stein's obsession with disceting things." Maka felt her back hit the wall.
"I know you better than Blair knows how to harass us." Soul put his hands on both sides of Maka's head.
"I know you better than Kid knows Black-Star." Maka leaned forward.
"That might be a lie." Soul chuckled and the to were inches away from each other.
"You sure?" Maka whispered and they were about to kiss when their front door was kicked open.
"Hey guys...what are you two doing?" A clueless Black-Star asked.
"Black-Star, how many times have I told you to knock?" Kid said as he entered the house as well. "Sorry guys...oh." Kid coughed in his hand and his cheeks lite up. "Parden us." The shinigami grabbed the star by the collar and dragged him out the door. "Don't go in." He called out to the other teens that were waiting. "We'll...um...come back later...bye." Kid left and closed the door behind him, his shouts at the star was muffled, but Patty's laugh was loud and clear. Soul and Maka stared at the door for a moment before Soul turned his head back towards Maka.
"Where were we?" Maka dropped the book and gripped the front of Soul's shirt with both hands and pulled him in into a kiss.
That ending. And gosh darn it Black-Star, you're worse at ruining moments than Lord Death it.
I thought this was adorable and I hope you liked it too Hannah.
Happy Birthday!
