Hello everyone! I hope you had a great Reformation day, Halloween. I know it has been a long while since I updated this story so I shall do my best to be better at keeping chapters coming. Thanks for reading and reviewing this chapter, Ember H.
Ember had gone into town to get some articles of clothing for herself and the other maids, must of their things had been burned in the fire. She had gone with Jimmy who made lively conversation into town. They split ways when they looked at the list and realized that the shops they were going to were completely different. Ember had her bags and was going to meet up with the footmen but as she turned the corner and dropped her bags, turning on her feet and sprinting out of the alleyway like hell was on her heels. One look at the man, in his eyes she could see his hate, and knew she needed to get out of there, fast. The girl's father yelled out "shit" as he started to follow her, he knew how fast she could be.
Her feet hit the pavement fast, touching the ground for a split second each time, jumping over yards and fences. People emitted angry yells as she past and the large man followed her causing more destruction. Ember made it fifteen minutes before she got to an old part of town. Normally she could scale a brick wall but this corner was flat, nothing for her to climb on. She spit and reared her body ready for a fight, as her father approached her.
Jimmy waited for half an hour before he decided that Ember must have just gone home by herself. He arrived to have Mrs. Hughes great him, "Where is Ember?" she inquired. "She hasn't come back yet?" stated Jimmy, "No she has not" stated the women getting slightly concerned. "James, go get Mr. Carson, and tell Anna to distract Thomas in his room, keep him out of here" stated Mrs. Hughes quietly. Jimmy did as told passing by Anna he quietly said "Get Thomas out of here, anywhere but the servant's hall, Mrs. Hughes will let you know what's going on later." Anna nodded her head and slipped away to find Thomas in the hall leaning and breathing heavily. "Hey, you're looking rather pale, how about a walk outside?" She asked taking his hand in hers. He nodded and closed his eyes and let her lead him out of the house.
"What is this about?" questioned Mr. Carson as he entered the room with James. "Ember seems to not have come back Mr. Carson, I'm not sure what we should do?" stated the woman. Mr. Carson raised his eyebrow. "We should call Lord Grantham first" he stated in all seriousness. After long time it was decided that in the morning if nothing had happened they would start a search party with the police, which is what they (the police) had said they could do. Grantham was very upset insisting that they do something now, however they simply state that they could do nothing more that evening.
After Anna had lead Thomas to his room and he fell asleep from the long walk they had taken, she too was briefed in what had passed. Needless to say the entire house had an uneasy night of sleep. Early the next morning the search began. At eight o'clock they had run out of options until Alfred said something. "What about Mr. Barrow? He might know something" he stated. "Where is this Mr. Barrow?" questioned the head officer for the case. "Great idea Alfred and you are not coming near him, he is my Head Footman, and in a poor condition at the moment, he doesn't need to be pushed around" state Grantham harshly turning around toward the car that was already being pulled toward him. Back at the house the Lord ran into Thomas room. The man was sitting up in bed and was rather shocked to see who was in his room. "Thomas, I need you to tell me the truth, Ember could be hurt, do you have any idea where she could be? She hasn't been back since last afternoon." "What? Uh, maybe, maybe I have an idea where she could be" he stated. Right after he heard that Ember was in danger he quickly got up changing fast, he and Lord Grantham drove into the town, the Earl made sharp turns where ever the other man pointed. Finally they screeched to a halt in front of a house. Thomas jumped out of the car and ran into the old grimy building breaking down the door.
Looking around frantically finally a small sound from an almost hidden closet; dashing for it he retched opens the door. There was Ember, trembling, dirt, blood, and bruises covering her almost naked form. Thomas slowly walked over to the girl, trying his best not to throw up, when he got to her eyes were closed, tear streaks down her face. Thomas whispered "Oh God" and slid to his knees crying for the girl… To Be Continued
