Hello All: I want to start of by apologizing for taking a month to upload this chapter! Life sometimes just gets in the way and before you know it days and then weeks have passed. I try to write as fast as I can, but I want this story to not feel rushed so the plot has to work itself out in my mind before I can sit down and write. Thanks for all the reviews, followers, and favorites. I really appreciate the continued support.
I am glad that you all liked my version of Alistair and his gift. This chapter has a lot of him in it; and a little cliff hanger at the end.
As always the characters belong to SM, but the plot is mine. See you at the bottom!
Enjoy!
All of Me
Chapter 13:
It turned out that our trip to Chile would have to be delayed for a few days because Alistair has never flown on an airplane or been in such close corridors with so many living breathing humans that he needed to hunt and prepare himself for the journey. The other vampires in our group agreed that taking a few extra days to prepare and regain our strength before again heading into the unknown was for the best. I was just happy that we would be in one place longer than twelve hours so that I could explore Alistair's estate a little.
Emmett and Rosalie went hunting first because it was easy for them to slip into the surrounding landscape and find a meal. The human drinkers had stayed behind and would leave as soon as Emmett and Rose returned; no one was taking the chance of something happening to me if they all left at once. I was shocked at first that Alistair did not go with his mates, even though I could see in his body language that he really wanted to follow them he still held himself back. It made me curious.
"Alistair why didn't you go with Rose and Em, I mean I know that you don't follow their diet, but you could have still joined them?" I asked him as I made my way over to the window he was standing by looking out in the direction that his mates had left in.
"I have been alone for so long and I have never been around another vampire when they are hunting. I would not want my bloodlust to take over when I smell the blood, even animal blood as vile as it smells, and hurt my mates in any way. It is safer if I keep my distance until I know for sure that I am under control." Alistair stated stiffly, and I could tell that he was not used to talking to a human.
"I guess I can understand that, but knowing Rose and Emmett they would have still wanted you to join them. I am only a human so my mating instincts are only a fraction as strong as my mates, but even knowing this I can still feel how much they love and want me around them at all times. I know that you have led such a solitary life, but please don't push Emmett and Rosalie away because they need you and will love you forever if you open up to them and let them in." I told him bluntly.
"You are a very strange human." Alistair stated looking at me for the first time since I joined him.
"Yeah you're not the first vampire to tell me that." I said back cheekily.
"Do you have plans on being turned?" Alistair asked after a moment.
"Yes, but nothing has been set in stone. We kind of have been on a whirlwind of traveling with Alice's warning and everything to sit down and plan out exactly how and when it will happen. I want to be turned soon though." I told him truthfully.
"When Oliver became of age I offered to turn him into a creature like myself, but he refused. He said that he wanted a wife and children and that he saw how lonely my existence was. I agreed to let him go and have never regretted it; I mean who was I to take away my closest relative dreams of a normal life, a life that I could no longer dream of having myself. And as I stated before I watched over him and his descendants for as long as I could. Do you have family Bella?" Alistair asked.
"Yes, my parents." I answered him unsure of where this conversation was going.
"And would you give your life to protect them and keep them happy; even if it meant a life of solitude and pain for you?" He asked.
"In a heartbeat. In fact I have already had to make that choice; and if given the option again I would make the same decision." I told him honestly.
"May I inquire as what led you to having to sacrifice yourself for the ones you love?" Alistair asked in a formal tone that let it be known that he had been raised in a different time.
So I told him all about James and his game of tracking me down to Phoenix. When I got to the part about Edward sucking the venom out of my arm and showed him my scar he got a weird look in his eye, almost panicked. He gently brought my arm up to him nose and sniffed the spot where James had bitten me and within a millisecond he was growling.
At the sound my mates had entered the room and pulled my arm out of Alistair with too much strength that left me crying out in pain. I tried to hold in the tears, but I could tell that my wrist had been broken. I was placed in Charlotte's strong arms as my mates tried to calm Alistair down. I could see the strength that it took them not to attack Alistair because he had hurt me, but I knew that deep down that they knew that it was an accident and there had to be a reason for his reaction to the bite.
I could feel Jasper sending out calming emotions and within a few minutes the room and Alistair had relaxed enough to stop his growling. I tried to keep the cries of pain to myself, but as Charlotte shifted me into a better position I couldn't hold it in any longer and let out a painful moan. Again I was surrounded by my mates as Peter gently took my wrist in his cold hand. The ice like temperature of his hand was soothing on my injury.
"It's definitely broken, but I can't tell much more without an x-ray. We will have to take you to a doctor Bella to get it fixed." Peter said as he placed my arm on my stomach as softly as possible. I nodded and tried to give him a grimaced smile, but I don't think that I was very successful.
"Alistair do you want to explain what is going on?" Jasper asked in full Major mode.
"I need to gather my thoughts for a few minutes and then I will explain it all." Alistair stated stiffly.
"Fine, why don't ya go and find Rose and Emmett and by the time we get back from fix'in up Bella I expect an explanation." Jasper ordered and Alistair nodded before disappearing from the room and out into the woods in search of his two mates.
"Bella, darlin you doing okay?" Jasper asked coming over and giving me a kiss on the forehead while sending me relaxing vibes to try and take my mind off of the pain. I again nodded, afraid to open my mouth in fear of screaming. Usually I could handle pain, but this was something like I had never felt before because my wrist felt like it had been crushed.
"Let's get you to a hospital." Garrett said leading the four of us back to van that Maggie must had retrieved and brought to the estate when she heard that I was injured. I sat in the backseat between Peter and Garrett as Jasper drove in the direction of the nearest hospital, which thanks to GPS was only about ten kilometers away.
After about two hours of exams and tests I was finally released from the hospital with a brand new cast on my wrist and much appreciated bottle of pain killers. I tried to relax on the journey back to the estate, but my mind was a jumble of emotions and thoughts, trying to figure out why Alistair reacted the way he did.
When we returned it was well past nightfall and the others were waiting for us at the front entrance with worried looks marring their beautiful faces.
"Belly are you okay?" Emmett asked.
"I'm fine Em. I've had worse injuries in my life and a broken wrist isn't so bad." I told him feeling the pain pills starting to work, making me a little loopy.
"I want to apologize Bella for hurting you. I meant to harm and it was truly an accident." Alistair apologized formally.
"I forgive you. I know that you didn't mean to hurt me. I have to expect that being surrounded by so many vampires that accidents are bound to happen every now and then." I told him wholeheartedly.
He nodded and I could tell that he really felt bad for his actions. We all moved back into the house after Rose, Charlotte, Maggie, and Emmett had given me a hug and kiss on the forehead.
"Okay now that everyone has calmed down I want to know exactly what set you off Alistair. I mean it had to be something pretty significant for you to start growling like that." Jasper asked back in his all business mode.
"When I smelled the bite on Bella's wrist I was assaulted with the scent of a vampire that I have only come into contact with once in my lifetime, but it was one that I would never want to repeat." Alistair stated with a shiver of disgust.
"You mean James?" I asked confused.
"No, while I could smell the scent of the one you called James it was not his scent that was most prevalent. You know Carlisle was always so secretive about his family, but who was I to invade someone's privacy when I valued my own so strongly. I should have known then that something strange was going on with him. I'm sorry; I am not explaining this right.
I guess it was about the mid-1920's when I crossed a familiar scent in London and at first I thought that it was Carlisle returning to his old stomping grounds, but who I encountered was not Carlisle, but a red headed vampire. I should have left it alone and returned home, but for some strange reason I ignored my gut instincts and followed this stranger. I never learned his name, but when he noticed that I was following him from a distance he somehow evaded my gift and attacked me from behind without provocation. Even though I tried to fight him it was like he knew all of my thoughts before I could act on them. I had no idea why he was attacking me. He was vicious and calculating and would have killed me easily, but I could tell that was not his goal.
When he had my body pinned down and my throat exposed he leaned down and whispered in my ear that he had very important plans for my gift in the future and that he would be in touch. With that last word his disappeared, leaving me on the cold ground; and I have never seen him again. Three days after the attack I got the sensation that someone was looking for me; and so I ran. It took over a month, but eventually Carlisle caught up with me. I tried to tell him about the vampire that had a scent so similar to his, but he just brushed off my concerns as me being crazy paranoid, but now I wonder if Carlisle was sent by this strange vampire to make sure that they could find and keep me scared and always on alert.
I never forgot the scent of that vampire and when I held Bella's wrist to my nose her bite was drowning in it. I believe that Carlisle and the red headed vampire are working together for some nefarious reason; and that with their knowledge of my gift we might be in more trouble then I first suspected." Alistair explained, but I was having trouble tracking exactly what he was trying to say, the pain pills in full affect now.
"Wait who was the vampire that attacked you?" I asked, though based on the shocked and scared looks on the faces around me I was the only one not in the know.
"The vampire is Carlisle's son and your former boyfriend Bella, Edward Cullen." Alistair stated simply.
Duh,duh, duh! I am evil, but what do you think about Carlisle and Edward now?
What are those two up to?
Please let me know your thoughts about this chapter and/or story. I love hearing from all of you!
I will try my hardest to update faster! I hate leaving you all waiting because as a reader myself here I hate when stories are left for so long. I can make no promises, but it is never my intention to make you wait any longer then it takes for me to get a chapter done right.
