A Little Unwell
Jasper and Emmett made their way to my fortress of solitude in the wee hours of the morning. Both of them wore looks of disgust and despair on their faces. I could understand why Esme and Carlisle had sent me out here to the middle of nowhere to rid myself of this obsession I had with the she-wolf yet here she was nestled in the master bed sleeping.
"So she's staying here with you? You've just completely given up on reuniting with your wife?" Jasper asked question that I had given much thought.
"Bella wants nothing to do with me and I think that's for the best I have nothing to offer her right now. I do need to get well so I can watch my daughter grow up I don't know if that includes getting back together with her mother or not," I explained bluntly. "I didn't bring you here to discuss my issues. Leah is an innocent in this mess I've created. I need for her people to see that she was forced into bed with me. It's not something that she asked for. Jasper you're the only one that can attest to this." Jasper immediately began to shake his head.
"I will admit that night when you pinned her to the tree you looked as though you wanted to cause physical harm to the poor girl but I cannot say that Leah doesn't feel lust and even love sometimes where you're concerned. The feelings between the two of you are laced with so many things that it's hard for me to really judge it. You claim to be obsessed with her I identify what you feel is love and extreme lust. I can't say that you forced yourself on her because you didn't. I won't lie for either of you." Jasper turned me down but he gave some information that I didn't mind hearing. Leah loves me. She loves me but she hates herself for feeling that way.
"So will you go to her tribe and tell them of the time I approached her in the woods. You could also tell them of the seducing nature that vampires have and that Leah may have simply fell into my spell. I need them to know that I was the aggressor! Please!" I pleaded and Jasper scoffed.
"I'll tell them but I don't know how much it will matter. Why are you so hung up on clearing the girl's name anyway?" I filled them both in on how Leah and her pack had tried to end her life.
"Damn, do they really think our kind is that vile?" Emmett seemed insulted even though this matter really wasn't about him personally.
"Yes, a lot of their ancestors were lost at the hands of our kind. We've changed the path of many of their lives and I assume they feel Leah has been corrupted by me. She's been exiled and it's not her fault."
"Why would she want to go back to a group of people that discarded her so easily?" Jasper asked and I simply shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know if I want to help anyone go back to that kind of stupidity. I will share with them what you requested out of my friendship toward you Edward but this is where my involvement ends. I suggest that you convince this Leah, she's better off without a family that treats her so cold. Is there anything else you need?" I gave his request some thought.
"I may need some groceries and toiletries. I want her to stay here until we can get this matter sorted out with her tribe," I explained and Emmett shook his head.
"This is a bad move. You're asking for trouble."
"I've been asking for trouble since I met Leah. Now I just want to ensure that she's safe!"
"You can't save someone that's wishing for death. They'll find it one way or the other," Jasper warned as he shoved his hands in his pockets.
This will end in disaster. He thought as he shook his head.
"I will return with some stuff in the morning," he murmured and motioned for Emmett. He was ready to take his leave. Before leaving Emmett stopped and placed his hand on my shoulder.
"Just, be safe man and be smart your family is waiting for you at home." He pulled me to him and embraced me and they both left and I immediately missed them. I went upstairs to check on Leah and found her sitting upright in the bed toying with her bandage on her shoulder. She looked at me and the back to her arm.
"They are right. If this is your plan it won't work. It would be better for you to stop meddling in my affairs and let nature take its course and run back into the arms of your beloved Bella. That's the only way Ness will forgive you and she will be happy." Leah's eyes saddened at the thought of my daughter and that's something that I could most definitely relate to.
"I miss Renesmee too," I sat on the bed beside her.
"I think that in the long run she will thank me for saving her best friend," I cooed in attempt to make Leah feel better. She studied me for a moment and then sighed and laid back down in bed and cradled her head to her pillow.
I've lost everyone I've ever loved. She thought. What's the point of living if everything I touch turns to shit? I should just stay here and be his prisoner. He's the only one that wants me in his own sick way.
I chuckled at her thoughts and hesitantly reached out and ran my hand along her upper arm. "You're not my prisoner. You Leah Clearwater are much stronger than I will ever hope to be. The point of living is so that you can prove that fact to every single person that wants you dead … including yourself. Now sleep." I went to leave her even though all of me wanted to stay with her and watch her sleep. I knew she needed space. We both were unwell and some time needed to heal.
