Chapter 5 - Lesson 5: The day after!
To his own surprise Gilbert had turned on the alarm before having fallen asleep last evening. He couldn't remember why or when but it was quite obvious since the screaming, bright tone now filled the whole room and both males let out sounds of displeasure.
The blonde was curled up against the Prussian, a strong arm being wrapped around his body and a smooth chest acting as his pillow.
At first Matthew couldn't understand where he was or why he was there. His head was pulsating, badly, and everything was a blur when he tried to see the world through half shut eyes and with his trusty glasses on the bedside table to the right of him.
"Turn it off," he moaned quietly, curling up more as he closed his eyes once again, cuddling in a bit closer against the source of warmth that came from the albino beside him.
Gilbert wasn't very content with getting up either but he made the effort to stretch his free arm out, fumbling around a bit when his fingers dragged over the smooth, wooden surface of the other bedside table. He soon hit the cold surface of his phone, almost knocking it down on the floor but he managed to squeeze it against the edge, doing everything he could to not let it fall down since that would mean that he actually would have to sit up and god, he really didn't want that.
He managed to get a better grip around the small device, bringing it over to his face and glaring at the way too bright screen. Soon he managed to turn the alarm off, the silence now filling the room being a huge relief and he sighed quietly as closed his eyes yet again.
His head was heavy from the drinking last night but at least he didn't have to go through the pulsating pain that his small companion felt for the moment. Though then again, he had actually been quite sober, at least sober enough to get out of his clothes, get the Canadian out of his clothes and to even put the alarm on. He probably had a very good reason for that last night but he couldn't for his life guess what it was. So yeah, he had been sober, or at least if you compared him to the Canadian still so sweet and all cuddled up against him like that.
"This is the last day we are here," Gilbert said, grimacing slightly from the dry feeling in his mouth. He really needed some water, or actually, quite the amount of water even. "We still have two lessons left. "
Matthew huffed quietly, breathing out hot air against the pale chest as he slowly opened his eyes once again, having closed them when the alarm had been turned off. He stared out into the nothingness with a sleepy, violet-blue glance.
"You are very cute and all but I seriously need to go to the bathroom." The comment made the Canadian blink a little and he slowly moved away from the Prussian, letting him get up on his feet. He closed his eyes again, wondering why he had been cuddled up against the other male but he shook his head to get the question out of his head. He was too tired for that and he really needed something to drink, his mouth was dry and it felt like he hadn't had water in years.
Gilbert didn't take long, soon coming out from the bathroom again in all his glory, the pale, toned body being dressed in only a pair of tight, black boxers, not leaving much to the imaginations.
The blonde slowly opened one eye and he now felt his sleepiness being washed away in an instant, seeing how the Prussian was dressed. Or well, he didn't quite see it but it was more than clear how he was dressed. It was also now he felt the soft sheets against his own naked skin, looking down at his upper body but quickly looking up again as he felt the weight on the bed. Gilbert had sat himself down on the edge before throwing his limbs out and falling onto his back, stretching out with a content yawn and not noticing at all how his blonde bedmate grew paler and paler. What had happened last night?
Matthew slowly sat up, the cover sliding down his body and revealing that he as well only was dressed in his blue boxers though unlike Gilbert's they were roomy and more like a pair of shorts. He couldn't remember anything from last night, at least not for a start but soon the familiar memory of lips against his own came to him, something that really shouldn't be familiar for the blonde but he could remember that the kiss had indeed happened last night. After that everything was black and now all of a sudden he was as good as naked, next to Gilbert that also was as good as naked and they had been pretty intimate for just being a coach and his student.
The realisation came over him like someone had just dumped a bucket of ice cold water on top of his head and his face took the next step to becoming ghost like as he paled even more.
"No..." The sudden word from Matthew made the white haired male open one eye and glance over at him. "Not this, no. This was really not suppose to happen, it's even worse than with Francis." His voice was actually in a normal tone and that was what got more attention from the Prussian than the actual words.
Matthew on the other hand didn't care, didn't think about how he talked or how he acted, he was panicking slightly from what he supposedly had done, with Gilbert of all people, last night.
By now Kumjirou had lifted his head, staring at his owner from the chair where he had parked himself over 12 hours ago and he hadn't moved since. Gilbird was also watching the show, being on top of the curtain rod as usual. His place beside Gilbert had been robbed after all by the blonde but it didn't seem like the little yellow ball of feathers minded.
"Birdie, calm down will you? What are you talking about?" The albino slowly sat up, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as he watched the blonde quickly crawl towards the bedside table, feeling with his hands out for the glasses before he found them.
"This!" he answered, getting the glasses on before he got up from the bed, legs still being shaky beneath him and for a second he thought he was going to vomit, his stomach feeling like a hurricane and his mouth just grew dryer and dryer as he spoke. "I got drunk and did..did this!" He shook his head, pouting as he soon had to sit down on the floor, not being able to keep his balance anymore as the room was spinning around him, the hangover being worse than he had thought at first.
It was now a light went up for Gilbert, the older nation now being able to guess what went through the blonde's head and a mischievous smirk spread over his pale lips as he turned onto his side, leaning his face into his hand as he watched the Canadian with an amused glimmer in his ruby eyes.
"Ooh, you're talking about that, huh? Don't worry Mattie, you weren't complaining during the time. Not even close." He noticed the cheeks of the other take on a crimson colour and Gil had to muster all strength he had to keep his composure and not laugh out loud. He almost felt sorry for the other nation though just almost and that was not enough to even make him consider stopping now.
"Stop it," the blonde whined quietly, really not wanting to hear about the night even though he still wanted to know exactly what he had done. Had he embarrassed himself in any way? He must have, he had never been with anyone before after all and then being with Gilbert. He quickly shook his head and hugged his knees tightly. No, this wasn't happening.
"You want me to go into details?" he soon heard the voice from the bed and he slowly lifted his head to glance up at Gilbert who had an amused smirk on his face, eyes being half shut and it gave him a predatory look as he stared right at the small Canadian. "You are a very flexible guy I must say, I never thought you could arch your back in such a way." Oh, this was too sweet and funny. He knew he shouldn't, it was utterly mean since the poor boy almost seemed to panic but he just couldn't resist the temptation. People did call him a devil from time to time and there was a reason for that.
"No, I really, really don't want any details," the blonde answered and shook his head, glancing a bit to the side as he saw his polar bear friend come walking with slow steps, soon sitting down beside him. He almost expected a 'hungry' but instead he just felt the soft nose puff on his hand, moving the fluffy head in beneath it so he could be petted.
Matthew looked over at him and slowly patted the polar bear's head but he still looked devastated and the Prussian sighed for himself, maybe this was a bit too mean, even for him.
"Ah, don't give me that look now, all pouty and miserable." Gilbert shook his head and sat up. "We did not have sex last night, I was just fooling around." He gave the other a small smile, trying to be charming but he gave up on that hope when the Canadian glared up at him. "I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist. You looked so cute. I was stupid, I know."
That comment made Matthew glance up at the other with a confused expression, the mighty Prussian, the awesome Prussia, called himself stupid? Something had to be wrong.
"You were stupid, yes," he said though, having calmed down a bit and he slowly lifted Kumajirou into his lap and hugged his furry little friend. Maybe Gilbert would see him as weird, panicking over such a little thing but for him it was a big deal. Getting so drunk that he suddenly did things he wouldn't do otherwise, it was quite scary. "But I appreciate that you at least admit it." That earned him a small pout and glare from Gilbert but the Prussian realized he didn't have much to say about it, knowing from the start that he had been mean and he still hadn't stopped.
"Yeah, yeah, now when you have calmed down..how are you feeling? You were drinking quite a lot yesterday." Matthew sighed quietly, his head pulsating worse than before now when he'd been all worked up and he hugged Kumajirou a bit tighter. Gilbird was still stationed on the rod, seeming quite happy up there since he could look out over the room without problems.
"Not good," it came from Matthew after a little while, the blonde looking up a bit more and it was now Gilbert noticed his pale face. "My head got its own pulse and I think I'm going to throw up, only that I don't have a lot to throw up..."
"The stomach will find its way. If it isn't food, it's something else." Not very comforting maybe but it was true. Gilbert knew that more than well by now, he'd had lots of mornings with hangovers though this one wasn't very bad but he could understand what Mattie was going through. "First of all you need something to drink. Your body is dehydrated from the alcohol and that's why your mouth feels like a desert."
The white haired male slowly got up from the bed and shook his head a little, still feeling a bit unsteady himself but he was better now and he made his way into the bathroom with a glass, filling it and then coming back, soon crouching next to the smaller male and reaching it out for him.
"Here, drink it. Then I would suggest a shower and some new clothes that doesn't reek alcohol." Matthew grabbed the glass as quickly as his heavy limbs could and he emptied it, for a second gulping like he was about to get it up again but he soon shook his head and relaxed, the water staying where it belonged. His mouth felt much better but a refreshing shower sounded really great now.
"I don't have my clothes here though, only the ones from yesterday." He soon let go off the polar bear, groaning quietly when remembering that Kumajirou needed food. He had been nice enough now to not say anything but Matthew knew he was hungry and he needed to take care of the little bear before he took care of himself. "Also Kumajou needs food and that I have in my fridge."
"Well, let's do it this way then. You get into the shower, I get your keycard and takes the bear with me, feeds him and I pick out some clothes for you. Then we'll go and have a nice breakfast, like pizza. That's great when you're hangover."
Matthew gave the man a sceptical glance but decided he could argue against the pizza later on. Instead he got up on his feet, using the wall for leverage and he pointed towards the pair of pants that was his, lying on the floor next to the bed.
"My wallet is in the pants and there you have the keycard. There is a package in the fridge with slices of seal, give him only one and if he's more hungry, give him one of the fishes. And don't pick out any too fancy or weird clothes, please." Matthew really was tired, he was still sounding polite but it was a normal tone he had, not the usual quiet one.
"Ja, ja," Gilbert just waved the words away, being confident in his skills to feed a polar bear and pick out some clothes. He walked over to the pants and took out the wallet, grabbing the keycard and then grabbing the bear. "Gilbird, watch the room now, I trust you to keep Matthew safe." He gave the bird a smirk, getting a small chirping back while the blonde just blushed slightly as he headed into the bathroom. A guard bird, that was something new.
While the Canadian took off the last piece of clothing and got into the shower Gil put the things in his arms down, remembering that clothes could be good if he was about to go out in the halls. He pulled a pair of jeans on, his shoes and a T-shirt, not being too picky now and he then grabbed card and bear again, walking out of the room.
He headed towards Matthew's own room, soon getting inside and when he was there he decided to first feed Kumajirou who looked pretty impatient.
"One slice of seal. Or was it two maybe. Or fish?" He looked over at the bear before he shrugged and looked into the fridge, taking out one of the small packages and wrinkling his nose as he felt the smell of fish. "Yuck, ekelig." He shook his head before he put the package back, soon feeling a pair of paws on his thigh and a nose puffing on his arm. "Calm down a little, I'm working on your breakfast."
Gilbert shook his head slightly with a sigh before he took out the other package and he saw the fatty slices. It was one slice Matthew had instructed, he was pretty sure of it and he put one of the last two slices on a plate and put it down. Kumajirou looked a bit at the other piece, almost like he was trying to use just his mind to move the last slice onto the plate as well but the albino just wrapped it into the package again and put it away.
"Eat now," he said and closed the fridge before he walked over to the bags that was still standing by the bed. They were full even though some of the clothes were on the bed or had slid down on the floor and Gilbert started to look through the pieces, murmuring for himself and when he couldn't find something he thought fitted his glance moved over to the suitcase. He thought it could be worth a try to see what the smaller male had with him and he started to look through it. He saw the red hoodie he had seen Matthew wear a couple of times and he decided that it would do, the blonde was quite cute in the hoodie even.
He then picked out underwear, socks, a white T-shirt and a pair of jeans and when it was done he turned to Kumajirou who was staring at the fridge.
"Let it go, you can have some pizza later." Not that Matthew would ever allow that but the Prussian couldn't possibly know that now could he?
When he had clothes and a bear in his arms he put the keycard in his pants and made sure he had his own card in the other pocket and he then exited the room and walked back to his own one.
oOoOo
Matthew had taken his time inside the shower, he even suspected that he had fallen asleep against the wall for maybe five minutes or so while the hot water still streamed down over his head. His head started to become a bit clearer now as he washed his hair with just a bit conditioner to keep it soft and he then used the natural soap the hotel offered, not smelling much at all and when he was done he just kept on standing there, staring into the wall. Not that he saw overly much, everything was blurry without the glasses but it was a good way for him to think. Just taking it easy, breathing, focusing his concentration on one, blurry spot and then to just, think.
After having been in the shower for 45 minutes, far more than he really needed, he turned the water off and walked out of the shower, onto the small towel he had put on the floor to not drip water everywhere.
The whole room was filled with steam and the mirror over the basin was misty, meaning the blonde couldn't see even after he finally had gotten his glasses on. Once again he spaced out slightly, thinking about yesterday and everything that happened but a sudden knocking on the door made him flinch, quickly grabbing a towel and wrapping it around his hips to make sure he covered himself properly.
"Are you done in there or what? You've been in the shower for way too long!" Of course it was an impatient Gilbert not wanting to wait any longer and Matthew sighed quietly but smiled a little either way as he walked over to the door, unlocking and opening it.
"I'm done. I just really needed that shower after yesterday." The Prussian's annoyed expression softened slightly but he didn't say anything about it, just giving him a small nod.
"Okay. Well, I have clothes for you and I gave your bear breakfast. If you get out here and change I can take a shower before we grab some breakfast." He didn't really care if Matthew would agree or not as he pushed the door open properly and walked inside, once again just being in his boxers which Matthew noticed first now and he started to remove them without waiting for Matt to close the door.
The blonde quickly shut the door, not wanting to be seen as a pervert or something for accidentally seeing the Prussian change and he then walked over to the bed where Gilbert had left the pile of clothes.
He was surprised over seeing his slightly worn out, red hoodie but it certainly didn't make him sad, seeing that he really liked his hoodie. He quickly changed into the clothes when being completely dry, soon sitting on the edge of the bed and drying his hair with the towel as much as he could before they were going to get breakfast. He was still going to refuse pizza though, after a day like yesterday he really needed some pancakes with syrup, lots of syrup.
Suddenly Matthew felt a small weight on his knee and he looked down, seeing the yellow feather ball that was Gilbird, now resting on his leg. The bird tipped his head a bit to the side and chirped once again, jumping a bit along Matt's thigh.
"Hey there," the Canadian said with a small smile, carefully reaching out his hand but stopping a bit away so he wouldn't scare the little creature. Gilbird looked at the hand, not moving but soon he skipped over, rubbing his head against the soft skin of the blonde and Matthew smiled widely as he softly patted the head with his index finger.
Gilbert soon came out with a towel around his shoulders, rest of him being completely bare and Matthew quickly looked away, not being used to people just walking around naked in front of him but the albino didn't seem to care at all as he walked around, getting some clothes and putting it on in his own, lazy pace.
Gilbird happily chirped and now flew over to the Prussian's shoulder once he'd gotten a shirt on and Gilbert smiled against the bird before he turned to Matthew.
"So, how about breakfast then?" The older nation turned to the other, smiling slightly as he dried his hair a little with the towel that had been around his shoulders and he then threw it onto the bed. Matt glanced over at it, not liking to leave wet things on furnitures just like that but he soon nodded slightly and got up from the bed.
"Sure, breakfast sounds good. But no pizza, not in the morning." He walked over to the chair where Kumajirou was half asleep and he picked his friend up into his arms before walking towards the door, making sure that he had everything with him by letting his free hand, not holding the polar bear, search through his pockets.
"Ah, right, can I get my keycard back?" He opened the door, walking out of the room before Gilbert handed him the card. "Thank you." Matt felt much better now though still a bit hangover and he even looked forward to eating breakfast. Or lunch maybe, last time he checked the clock it was 11 AM.
The nations went down in the elevator, soon finding a nice café where you could buy sandwiches, breakfast muffins and the oh so wonderful pancakes Matthew craved. They even had real maple syrup and not that other, fake thing his brother used to have, it was not nearly as tasty.
They did get some weird looks, at least Matthew did when he walked inside with a polar bear in his arms but since Kumajirou wasn't too big and seemed very calm most decided to ignore it, even though he still got some glances every now and then.
"I'll take it you want pancakes then? With syrup, yes I know." Gilbert had noticed how the blonde had opened his mouth to add the syrup part so he decided to be quicker. "What will you have to drink?" Gilbert got off the chair, Gilbird still stationed on his shoulder unlike when they had been at the party when he had hidden and probably slept away the evening inside the albino's collar.
"I'll take that mango smoothie they have, it sounds tasty." He smiled, picking up his wallet but Gilbert had already made his way over to the counter and was now ordering their breakfast, picking up his brother's card. He knew he would have to pay back, sometime, unless Ludwig didn't notice the money missing that is, though that was just a dream that never would come true.
After paying for the food Gilbert sat down across the table, looking at Matthew as he was staring down on his phone, looking to be somewhere else for the moment.
"What is it?" he asked curiously as he glanced up at the waitress that brought Matt's smoothie and his coffee. He gave her a charming, smile, causing her to giggle slightly before he turned to the smaller male once again.
"Hm? Ah, no, nothing. It's just, Alfred texted me and asked me to write some reports for him. He doesn't want to do it." He smiled slightly before he took the black straw that was in his smoothie and he started to drink a bit, tasting the mango and some citrus in the background and it was really nice.
"Reports? That lazy bum can do that himself, tell him no." Gilbert leaned back in his chair, sipping his coffee with a content smile before he glanced over at Matthew that seemed lost once again in the text he had gotten. "What?"
"I..already said yes," he murmured and scratched the back of his head. "He's my brother, I can't just..tell him to do it himself."
"Of course you can! It's his reports, not yours. Why should you write them just because he is busy eating junk food?" He raised an eyebrow and looked into Matthew's eyes, at least until the blonde slowly turned his gaze away. Gilbert sighed quietly, a bit annoyed by the other being such a push-over but he managed to muster another charming smile as two plates with pancakes and a bowl with fresh strawberries were places in front of them, earning him another giggle before the waitress walked away.
"He must certainly have something more important to do than just eating," Matt complained, as always defending his brother. "I don't have much to do while back in Canada..so I can write them and then he won't have to worry about it."
The older nation sighed quietly and shook his head a bit, grabbing a fork and eating some of the pancakes, at least the flavour was good which made him relax a little but he was still a bit annoyed. Soon a small smile spread over his lips though and he was certainly more content with the situation now as he kept on eating of the pancakes. Something was going on in his head and Gilbert obviously thought it was good.
Matthew was very content as well, looking like a happy child on Christmas as he felt the taste of the familiar maple syrup. He himself didn't mind people asking him things since he was used to doing favours for others, it was in fact the few moments where people often saw him. It was quite sad when you thought about it but Matthew enjoyed helping people so if he could do that he wouldn't hesitate.
Soon a vibration could be heard and Matthew took his phone once again, looking at it with wondering eyes.
"Hm, Arthur wants me to send him some tea, it's apparently cheaper in Canada than in Britain." He sighed a little, the tea the man wanted was hard to find but he could understand if Arthur wanted it a bit cheaper so he would try it.
"How come everyone wants something from you today?" Gilbert asked, raising an eyebrow as he shook his head. Another favour, Matthew couldn't say yes to all of them.
"Hm? Ah no, I got a few questions yesterday as well. Alfred wants me to send a game to him, apparently it is released earlier in Canada than in America for some reason. Some trouble with the store bringing it in." He shrugged and frowned when he saw the disliking glance he got from Gilbert and he looked around a little, not knowing what to do.
"You can't say yes to everyone's demands. I mean, seriously. They don't notice you otherwise but all of a sudden they get something to do and they think of you and ask you to do it. They are using you." Matthew pouted slightly and shook his head.
"They just ask me for favours, it's not that hard to send a game or some tea..nor are those reports, they are simple to write and I can do it if I just stay up a night or two." He took a last bite of his pancakes, obviously not wanting to talk much more about it and Gilbert guess that Matt knew he was right but didn't want to admit it to himself. It was attention and it was better than not being noticed at all.
The nations didn't talk more during the rest of the breakfast, Gilbert still having a plan he was moulding in his head while Matthew tried to politely ask a small girl to keep her hands away from Kumajirou since the polar bear really started to dislike all the attention. Children never seemed to listen properly though.
oOoOo
Matthew was on his way to his room, keycard and polar bear in his arms and a Prussian behind him. They had spent the last 24 hours together, a thought that was a weird one. After all, before this meeting they had never spoken and now you could almost believe they were close friends, a really weird thought indeed.
"You're going home at 10 PM, right?" Gilbert closed the door around them when they were inside the room and Matt nodded before putting Kumajirou down on the bed and then joining his friend. "Great, that means we have 7 hours until you need to be on that plane and it gives us plenty of time for lesson number 6."
"There was a lesson number 5?" Matthew asked and raised an eyebrow, earning an amused smile from the white haired male who only shook his head.
"Ah, poor Birdie, you couldn't see the brilliance in my lesson number 5?" He shook his head, Matthew almost feeling like a child for a second when the white haired male talked to him like that but he just let it be, knowing Gilbert needed to be a bit narcissistic sometimes. "Lesson 5 was, the day after drinking. The hangover part, it's a very important lesson. You need to know what to do if you drink yourself beneath the table but hopefully you will never be alone when having done that, it's not very pleasant."
"Oh, I see." Matthew nodded and did agree on that it was a useful lesson, if he was going to get drunk that is. It was not a feeling he wanted anytime soon though. He shook his head a bit before he looked up at the Prussian, his violet-blue eyes pretty curious as he wanted to know what next step would be. "And lesson 6?"
"No," Gilbert just replied and leaned against the wall, arms crossed over his stomach. "Lesson 6 will be to learn how to say no. That's something you desperately need. You can't let people walk all over you and do them favours without getting anything for it."
"Aren't you helping me now? Without getting anything for it?" Matthew looked up at him and Gilbert glanced to the side a bit, almost feeling a little ashamed over the fact that he certainly was gaining something from it, something quite big on top of that.
"Never mind that, we're focusing on you now. I want you to start saying no to people that obviously just want to use you. If they don't talk to you and all of a sudden wants you to do them a favour, refuse, it's not that hard." It was hard though, at least for Matthew who wanted to be nice and help everyone but he understood why Gilbert saw this as necessary. He couldn't keep on saying yes to everyone, especially when he didn't have time or any want to say yes but did it anyway.
"Okay, fine, Lesson 6." He nodded slightly but soon frowned, watching Gilbert get closer to him and he man soon put his hands on each side of the blonde's thighs, leaning in close so they were face to face.
"That won't cut it, be a bit more enthusiastic, will you?" Once again that intense, ruby gaze was staring into Matthew's violet-blue ones and the Canadian swallowed slightly but for once he was not leaning back. The memories from yesterday came back to him and he quickly glanced down at the other's lips but just as quickly turned back to those mesmerizing eyes.
"Lesson 6 sounds like a good idea. I don't want people to just..use me whenever they think it fits." He looked a bit more determined and Gilbert nodded with a smile, straightening his back and soon falling onto the bed and putting the arms behind his head.
"Perfect, we'll leave in half an hour and walk around, see if anyone needs some help so you can turn it down. Though first, I need to close my eyes."
Matthew glanced over at the other and sighed quietly before he looked down onto his knees, he just hoped no one would start disliking him for this, even if it was a necessary lesson the thought made him sad.
"Do so," he said and soon dropped back himself, stretching out his body and closing his eyes, trying to relax for the moment and not think about the lesson until it was time to go through with it.
