Thank you guys so much for following/favoriting this story and I'm so happy we've made it this far. :) I'll stop keeping you guys now, Enjoy Chapter 22!
The magic snowball flew though the air with speed.
Splat.
The snowball hits Jamie in the back of the head, a bit going down his shirt. A surprised look came to his face, blue sparkles shining in front of his eyes. They grew wide as a happy laugh escaped his mouth.
"Ok! Who threw that?!" He yells excitedly to the other kids.
Jack flew over an amused look on his face. "Well it wasn't Bigfoot, kiddo."
Jamie laughed as he made a snowball and tossed it at a blond haired boy wearing red glasses. The boy's back had been turned so he fell face first into a pile of snow.
A snow ball flew over him and hit the girl he had been with. She fell back on her butt before looking up in annoyance.
"Jamie Bennett, no fair!" She yells with a smile twitching her lip.
"You struck first!" Jamie shot back, Claude laughing behind him.
Till he and his brother got hit by snowballs. Jamie turned around in surprise.
"Free for all!" Jack laughs as he continues to throw snowballs at the kids.
Jamie got hit by one in the side of his head, he laughed as he tried to block the attacks with his sled.
Soon the kids were firing away at each other, no teams or allies.
Jack hopped around the group tossing balls here and there.
"Alright, who needs ammo?" Jack grins as he makes some snowballs appear.
One hit Jamie in the face making him trip backward over a half made snow man. A snowball sailed right over him and hit a large girl in a pink tutu.
The girl growls as she turns around to face the group.
"Crud! I hit Cupcake!" The girl with the green scarf say nervously.
The red glasses boy pointed a finger at her. "She hit Cupcake."
"You hit Cupcake?" Claude asks worriedly.
Jamie, still on the ground, brought his sled up higher to hide from Cupcake.
Cupcake looked them over angrily as she held the head of the snowman she had been making in her hands.
Poof!
A snowball hit Cupcake right in the face, making the others gasp in shock.
"Did you throw that?" Caleb asked his brother.
"No." Claude replies.
"It wasn't me!" The green scarf-ed girl, Pippa, says.
Jack was crouched on top of his staff, arm still in the throwing position. He was watching Cupcake with grin, as if waiting for something.
The blue sparkles, like before, came in front of her eyes. At first she seemed to try to fight it but after the first laugh she couldn't stop.
Cupcake gave a mock war cry as she chased the others with the snowman's head. The others were laughing and giving mock cried of fear as they ran away Jamie in the lead.
Jack came flying in next to Jamie, letting his staff slide across the ground. "A little slippery!"
Jamie slipped and landed on his sled as it slid down Jack's ice.
"Jamie, watch out!" Pippa cries out.
"Woah!" Jamie gasps as the sled moves down hill.
"That's the street!" Pippa shouts worriedly.
"Stop! There's traffic!" Monty, the blond with red glasses, yells.
Jamie screamed as the ice continued to form under him, leading him right into the street. He slid around cars and corners at a fast speed.
"Don't worry, Jamie. I got you. Hold on!" Jack says as he flies behind the boy, waving his staff to guide the ice away from cars.
A moving truck behind them got spun around on the ice, allowing a sofa and a few boxes to fall out.
Jack flew a bit ahead of Jamie, a wide grin on his face and one hand shoved carelessly into his hoodie pocket.
Jack saw a man walking some dogs and quickly turned Jamie to the left. "Keep up with me, kid! Take a left!"
Jamie slid between the man and the dogs and over a huge dirt pile.
"Hey, slow down!" The man cries, waving his fist.
Jack was laughing. The other Guardians looked confused (and silently worried Jack may have lost a few marbles) before Bunny spoke up.
"Oi, mate…why are you laughing?" Bunny says hesitantly.
Jack wiped away a small frozen tear, a few chuckles still leaving him. "I just…I just found it weird that none of the people seem to care a kid is going 30 miles an hour on a sled that is sledding on ice that is growing it's self as he rides."
The other Guardians blinked, they hadn't had thought of that. They had been more worried about if Jamie got hit or something.
It took them all a few minutes to finish laughing before going back to the memory.
Jack was flying above Jamie now, twisting his staff to made Jamie go another right. A car scratched to a stop before it could hit Jamie.
Jamie was riding the sidewalk now. "Hold up. No, no, no, no!"
He rode past a woman in a blue skirt. "Is that Jamie Bennett?"
He slid around other people who had to scramble out of his way. Jack flew backwards on the ice fore a moment to make sure Jamie was still ok. Seeing he was still safe he smirked. "There you go."
"No, no!" Jamie shouted as he was guided back into the street.
He rode past a car and barely missed hitting a man walking in the cross walk. Jamie couldn't help but grin in excitement, giving a small laugh.
Jack laughed as well before turning around to see a bus crossing the street and head straight towards them was a snow plow.
It hocked and Jack landed on his ice, turning it towards a snow pile on the sidewalk. "Woah!"
Jamie was sent into the air, fear turning to amazement. "Ahhhhh-!"
Jack watched as Jamie landed in a snow drift. He was worried for a moment when the kid didn't get up, but couldn't help how energized he was from the ride.
He jumped onto a statue with a family and a dog. "Yeah!"
"Oh my gosh!" One of Jamie's friends cries as they all rush over to him.
"That looks serious." One of the twins says worriedly.
"Jamie, are you all right?" Monty asks, fixing his glasses.
Jamie sat up, a big grin on his face as he pushed him self to his feet. "Did you guys see that? It was awesome!"
Jack smiled smugly as Jamie began gesturing wildly was he retold what happened. "I did a jump and I slid under a-!"
The sofa from before suddenly hit Jamie, making his hat fly off.
Jack and the others wince, Jack muttered. "Woops."
Jamie's friends winced again as they got closer to see of he was ok. Jamie's hand shot up, a tooth held in it.
"Cool! A tooth!" Jamie says as he gets up and puts his hat on.
"Dude, that means cash!" Claude says looking at the tooth in surprise.
"Tooth fairy cash!" Caleb agrees.
"You lucky bum!" Monty laughs.
Jack's happy look faded. "Oh no."
"I got to put this under my pillow!" Jamie cheers.
Jack hopped down from the statue to follow the excited kids. "Oh, wait a minute. Come on. Hold on, hold on."
"What about the fun we just had?' Jack made a motion to the sofa and the ice trail. 'That's wasn't the Tooth Fairy, that was me!"
Tooth and the others looked at Jack, who looked away.
"You were not lying when you said Jamie was your first, were you?" North asks softly.
Jack shrugged, but the others could tell he was stiff. "I tried to get peoples attention but they just blamed it on nature or with kids on you guys. No one ever believed the snowy Christmases were done by me and not you. No one believed when their tooth fell out because they slipped on ice it was me, no one believed that all the eggs the littler kids couldn't reach fell out of the trees because I got them down. No one believed."
Nightlight walked closer to Jack and put a hand on his shoulder. Jack looked at him questioningly, Nightlight motioned to him self and the other Guardians then back to Jack and then his heart.
Jack looked back at the others for help. Tooth smiled softly at him. "What Nightlight is saying, Jack, is even though its only recently…we believe in you."
Jack looked down for a moment before looking back at them, a soft smile on his face. "Thanks guys…that means a lot."
'More then you know.' Was left unsaid but they all got it and turned back to the memory.
"My ears are freezing!" Monty laughs as they talk about going to Jamie's house for hot chocolate.
Jack flew in front of the group, looking at the kids almost desperately. "What's a guy got to do to get a little attention around here?"
Then it happened. Jack felt a jolt of electricity go through him, reminding him that no matter how much fun they had the kids couldn't see him. He stared at the ground sadly as he waited for the pain to pass before shooting up into the sky.
"…it was awesome.' Jamie said as he was getting ready for bed, using his robot nightlight to prove his point. 'So then I was flying off this ramp and it was like…through these cars and then the sled hit this thing, and it was like way up in the air! And then, Bam, the sofa hit me…'
"Wow." Sophie whispers.
'…And see! My tooth came out!" Jamie says, lifting his upper lip to show the empty spot.
Sophie giggled and tried to put her finger in Jamie's mouth, but he moved away making her fall over.
"All right, you. Tooth under your pillow?" Their mom asks as she walks in.
"Yeah, I'm ready." Jamie replied as he turned off the light then turned on his nightlight.
"Now don't stay up trying to see her, Jamie,' His mother says. 'Or she won't come."
"No my fairies still come,' Tooth says, forgetting this was a memory. 'They just have to have Sandy come first before they can get the teeth."
"Tooth? Memory." Jack says.
"Oh." Tooth would be blushing in embarrassment if not for her feathers.
The others laughed.
Jamie grabbed a flash light and shined it around the roof. "But I can do it this time! You want to help me, Soph? We can hide and see the Tooth Fairy!"
"Hide, hide, hide, hide!" Sophie agrees, green eyes sparkling.
Their mom picked up Sophie looking at Jamie mock sternly though her glasses. "Straight to bed now, mister."
"Mom." Jamie whined slightly.
Jack with his hood up was peaking though the window from the roof, his eyes showing longing. Frost began to form on the window, blocking the family from his view, making him frown and move back up.
He flipped gracefully onto the roof, walking along it easily. "If there's something I'm doing wrong…can you…can you just tell me what it is?"
He turned to where he was staring at the moon, his face and voice showing his desperation and sadness. "Because I've tried everything…and no one ever sees me."
When the moon didn't answer a bit of anger laced his voice. "You put me here. The least you can do is tell me… tell me why."
His eyes pleaded with the moon to give him anything, anything to show it was listening.
But nothing came.
Jack turned away in disappointment, he jumped from the roof and landed lightly on a nearby telephone pole. Frost spread from where his feet touched it, he tapped his staff to another line then ran it along the line to let the frost spread.
Golden lines of sand began to fill the air, twisting and turning this way and that. Jack smiled when one came in frost of him, he turned around and took off his hood to watch them all.
"Right on time, Sandman." Jack says to him self as he runs along the line.
When one came close to him he jumped up to run his fingers though it. A dolphin made of sand burst from the stream, swimming around Jack before joining back into the sand.
The sand flew into windows giving people sweet dreams. Jack decided to stay around and look at a few.
(I didn't know if I should do the part with Pitch since it isn't part of Jack's memories so sorry if you wanted to see/read that part)
Jack landed on a telephone line as the sand began to leave, likely to go give more sweet dreams. Jack was about to go back to his lake when a black blur shot past right in front of him.
"Woah!" He cries, looking at where it went.
Not one to refuse his curiosity he shot after it.
He landed on a roof, then a tree, looking around for the blur. It shot past him again, making him turn and take chase again.
Not even trying to be sneaky he jumped off some cars, making their alarms go off. Flying off of poles and house tops he looked this way and that for it. It went by again, making him land in an alley, staff held at the ready.
"Hello, mate." An Australian voice says from behind him.
Jack spun around to see a tall form hiding in the shadows.
"Been a long time. Blizzard of '68 I believe,' The form says, stepping out of the shadows, showing a 7 foot tall rabbit with warrior markings and armor. 'Easter Sunday, wasn't it?"
Jack looked relieved, he leaned against his staff carelessly, giving the rabbit an innocent look. "Bunny! You're not still mad about that, are you?"
"Yes." Bunny replies bluntly, then goes to moves to look at his boomerang thoughtfully. "But this is about something else."
"Fellas?" Bunny asks.
Jack looks confused for a moment before a large hairy hand picks him up. "Hey!"
Two yetis grumble to each other as one hold Jack and the other holds a sack.
"Put me down! What the…!" Jack shouts.
The yetis shove him in and twist the top so he couldn't get out. One took out a glowing ball, it grumbled to it before throwing it at the ground. It broke and made a portal, the view of a building in its swirls.
The one holding Jack in the sack gestured to Bunny to go though.
"Me?' Bunny chuckles. 'Not on your nelly. See you back at the Pole."
He tapped his foot on the ground, making a large hole appear, He dropped in and it closed behind him, leaving a small pink flower behind.
The yeti grumbled to the other before tossing the sack though, then the two ran in behind it.
