"Jack!" Tooth screams angrily, making said winter spirit flinch.
"Ok, ok,' Jack says nervously holding his hands up and sending Tooth a smile. Hoping the sight of his teeth will sooth her. 'It wasn't the brightest idea to go running after the nightmare alone but I was only trying to catch Pitch."
"Maybe Jack,' North says sternly, stepping closer and putting a hand on the small Guardian's shoulder. 'but still very dangerous. Pitch is not to be underestimated, and you could have gotten hurt if you had taken him alone."
That made Jack remember what was soon to happen.
Sandy's 'death'.
He shivered slight, he really didn't want to go though the pain again of seeing his friend die; at least he knew now that Sandy was still alive and safe.
Jack raced after the nightmares, another had joined in a few minutes before, Sandy catching up behind him.
"Whoo!" Jack laughs as he runs over the roof of a building, smiling excited at Sandy who flew up next to him on a dream cloud.
They turned to the left, one of the nightmares when though another building while the other flew next to it. Jack chased the one outside and Sandy followed the other. Explodes of golden sand shined through the windows before the mare and Sandy appear out the other side.
Jack bounced like a ball off chimneys, almost seeming to be do a chaotic dance as he tailed the nightmare. He laughed and shouted with glee as he got close as they dived off one of the large houses.
Looking over his shoulder briefly he saw Sandy riding the other nightmare. When the golden man pressed his hand against the mare's neck it turned gold and shifted into a sting ray.
Jack glided though the air, twisting and turning as he got closer and closer to catching the black sand horse. He chased it into an alley and jumped up the fire escapes to the roof. He pointed his staff at the horse and just as it disappeared over the end it was blasted with his ice.
"I got it!" He cheers, hopping up the side to go see his catch.
"Sandy! Sandy did you see that?' He calls out excitedly. He tapped the horse with his staff, smirking when it didn't show signs of moving. 'Look at this thing."
While Jack was poking at the nightmare Pitch walked up behind him, watching him with interest.
"Frost?" Pitch says, dodging as Jack whipped around and shot a blast of ice at him. "You know for a neutral party, you spend a awful lot of time with those weirdos."
While Jack had been looking around Pitch had reappeared up on a higher roof top. Jack pointed his staff at him, watching him carefully.
"That dingo is calling us weirdos?!" Bunny shouts. "As if that bloody-'
"Bunny calm down,' Tooth scolds him. 'Plus we got him in the end so it doesn't matter."
Bunny grumbled to him self but said nothing more.
"This isn't your fight, Jack." Pitch says, seemingly not fazed by the weapon pointing at him.
"You made it my fight when you stole those teeth." Jack says determinedly.
"Teeth? Why do you care about the teeth?' Pitch asks, non-existent eyebrows fusing in confusion.
Pitch noticed Sandy standing next to him and gasped softly, taking a quick step to the side away from the frowning dream weaver.
He recollects him self and chuckles. "Now this is who I'm looking for."
Just after the words left his mouth Sandy whipped out his whips (Pun intended!) and snapped them at Pitch. Pitch dodged them but barely. Sandy began to push Pitch back but Pitch made a scythe and swung it at him. Jack started to rush forward to help but had to dive down to avoid being sliced by Pitch's blade.
The two dream makers continued to fight until Sandy got the upper hand by wrapping his sand around Pitch's wrists. Pitch gasped as Sandy throw him into the air then slammed him against the ground and walls finally throwing him off the side where he hit a car and tumbled to the ground.
Jack walked up beside the smug looking man, awed and a bit scared. "Remind me not to get on your bad side."
Sandy sent him a mischievous smile before they floated down to where Pitch was still laying on the ground.
"Okay. Easy. You can't blame me for trying, Sandman.' Pitch says nervously, crawling backwards as he tried to stand up. 'You don't know what it's like to be weak and hated. It was stupid of me to mess with your dreams. So I'll tell you what…"
He looked up and dark sneer replacing the frightened tone. "You can have them back."
Sandy and Jack spun around as they heard horse whining. Nightmares appear from the sewers, the alley, and air. They were surrounded.
"You take the ones on the left, I'll take the ones on the right?" Jack asks quietly, looking around worriedly.
Pitch rode up on one, smiling darkly. Sandy made his whips reappear, tiny body tensing for the fight to come.
"Boo." Pitch mockingly, nightmares trampled forwards at the clearly out numbered Guardian and not-yet Guardian.
"Huh!" Pitch says as he and Jack look up to see the sleigh flying over their heads.
Sandy continued to fight the nightmares, he lifted him self and Jack into the air before letting the boy go so they flew in opposite directions.
Jack spun this way and that, destroying any nightmare that attacked him. He didn't notice one behind him till Tooth flew by and killed it with her fists.
Seeing two coming at him Jack made the wind lose hold of him so he could drop a few feet, letting the two horses crash into each other. It didn't go right when a nightmare appeared under him making him spin wildly and lose hold of his staff.
He grasped desperately for it as he fell.
"Oh dear!" Tooth says worriedly, forgetting it was a memory.
Jack put a hand on her shoulder and gave her a small smile, she flashed an embarrassed smile and turned back to the memory.
He caught it just in time to land on the wing of the sleight. Bunny looked at him smugly. "You might want to duck."
Jack turned to see a nightmare heading right for them. He ducked and just before the mare reached them it exploded as Bunny's boomerang cut though it and was caught easily by its owner.
"We've got to help Sandy!" Jack shouts to North over the wind, watching the golden man fight against the tornado of nightmares.
Sandy was intrigued now. He didn't know much about what happened after he had 'died', as the others seemed to avoid saying anything, but now he might get some answers.
They rushed to get up to him and saw Pitch let lose the black sand arrow into Sandy's back.
"No!" Jack screams, shooing off the sleight towards Sandy.
"Don't fight the fear, little man." Jack and the others could hear Pitch laugh.
Tooth tried to rush forward as well but a group of nightmares held them back.
"I'd say 'sweet dreams' but there aren't any left." Pitch says smugly, taking pleasure in Sandy's pain.
Sandy noticed this and put on a brave face as he stood tall, accepting his fate.
Jack pushed him self faster and faster, desperately trying to get there before it was too late.
"No.' Jack gasps, seeing the last of Sandy's golden sand turn black. 'NO!"
Pitch looked disinterested as he raised a wave of nightmares and shot them at Jack.
Jack gasped as they hit him, covering him in a dome of black sand.
Suddenly a shock wave, sounding similar to a sonic boom came from the dome. The nightmares were blasted away as Jack with an aura of blue ice electricity was released.
Jack gave a battle cry as he shot his ice lightning forward, it incased the nightmares before they could even react. It continued to spread until it reached Pitch where it blow him and the nightmares out of the sky.
The shock wave hit Jack and sent him falling back, barely holding onto his staff as he started to lose consciousness.
He was free falling until Tooth shot up and caught him, lowering him gently back into the sleight.
"Jack, h-how did you do that?" She asks softly, awed.
Jack groaned as he slowly sat up. "I…I didn't know I could."
He looked at his staff as if it was the first time he had ever seen it.
North took out a snow globe and told it to take them to the pole. He threw it in front of the sleight and they disappeared inside.
