A/N: The long awaited last chapter of the story about Nick and Jeff.
I'm really sorry you had to wait longer than I promised, but it's just- I started writing this about a month ago, but I wasn't really ready for it to be done. I wasn't ready to let go of this story, because honestly it's my baby. But I'm proud of it, and I hope that you have all enjoyed reading it, as much as I've enjoyed writing it. I hope to see you all again on another fanfiction, on a later point.
But without further notice; Here's the last chapter. Please enjoy and possibly a review with your thoughts? Thanks lovelies.
"Jeff?" Thad's voice. Jeff's head snapped up and he looked straight at his roommate. They were at warblers practice, they day after Jeff had gotten his iPod back, with the lovely little playlist from Nick. He'd been wondering about what he should say to Nick if he happened to run into him during one of the next days. He'd completely forgotten where he was, due to his thoughts.
"Yes?" Jeff questioned and tried not to blush too hard, due to all the looks he was getting for not paying attention.
"Didn't you last week that you were preparing something for today?" Thad asked with a soft smile to Jeff. He knew that Jeff would be embarrassed by the looks.
"I-" Jeff totally forgot about his excuse last week, to leave the guys at lunch. He looked around the room but for some reason, the faces just seemed slightly blurry and he couldn't tell one from the other. Only Thad's face were clear, because he were so close. "Well I did, but-" He started but hesitated again.
"I suppose this is where I take over." A voice said and Jeff recognized it right away. It sent shivers down Jeff's spine. He hadn't known that he was here today. "He asked me to perform this song." Nick said. It wasn't true of course, but he wanted to help Jeff out of the misery of being under everyone's gaze like that. He hadn't answered Jeff's last text the day before. The one where Jeff thanked him for the playlist. Nick hadn't known what to reply, so he decided that it was better just not to. Even though something told him that Jeff had expected a reply.
"Oh." Thad were a little taken about, it was clear. But then again not really all that weird. "Well, what did you guy plan for you to sing?" He then asked and hid his surprise the best he could.
"Let that be a surprise for the others." Nick answered with a smug smile, which Jeff refused to look at. He knew where Nick should be standing in the room, but he didn't want to look at him. He'd probably just blush again. He kept his gaze turned the other way, even though he heard Nick's footsteps moving through the room. "I suppose you'll all join in, when the council have started out." Nick's voice said. This time from another place in the room and Jeff knew that it was directed at everyone in the room, but he still refused to look at him.
When the council started off the song, Jeff couldn't help but join in right away. He were still unsure about how to deal with Nick, but he music generally did something to him and he really loved this song, so he couldn't help it, even if he'd wanted to. He like the way he were able to loosen up a little, instead of thinking so harshly about the things with Nick, even if it was his voice, bearing the song.
Jeff didn't know how it happened, probably because his mind were lost in the music and he just felt really happy; the warblers were now walking sideways down the hall to the music, one foot over the other.
And when she's walking
She's looking so fine
In front of the others, were Nick and Rio, their teacher. Well of course her name wasn't Rio, but they all called her that; for some reason with the song of the same name, by Duran Duran.
Sebastian stepped forward, towards Rio and took a few lines for Nick, as if they'd planned it beforehand. Nick didn't seem surprised by Sebastian taking over, after all.
And when she's talking
She'll say that she's mine
Thad now joined in for a few lines as well, and Jeff really enjoyed it. He felt like his old self again, from before all this stuff with Nick. He felt like his old self, who just enjoyed music and being a part of the warblers.
She'll say I'm not so tough
Just because
Together, all of the warblers got closer to Rio, all standing around her as they all sang together.
I'm in love
With and uptown girl
Rio now lifted an arm and pointed towards the open door, they'd came out of not long ago, telling them to go back inside. She'd been smiling when they danced and sang at her and the joy still glistened in her eyes as she did so. She weren't mad, she just had to enforce the rules of the school.
She's been living in her white bread world
As long as anyone with hot blood can
They all moved towards the doors as Nick and the others kept singing. Some ran, some shuffled, some like Nick (and Jeff) walked backwards, facing Rio as the got closer to the doors. When Jeff weren't fast enough, he earned a soft push to the chest from Rio and he turned around and ran the last meters and through the doors.
And now she's looking for a downtown man
Thad had stopped in the doorway and sang this line to Rio and he as well as Jeff earned a little soft push to his chest. Nick then stepped back into the doorway, where Thad had just moved away from, to sing the next line, and then moved back before their teacher could do any more.
That's what I am
For a while they stood there and hummed the music all together, while some of the warblers stepped in to the sort of circle of people they'd formed, and made all sorts of crazy jumps, flips or other dance moves. Nick then let them know the song was about to go on, and they all stood op in their 'warblers formation', and Nick sang again.
Uptown girl
She's my uptown girl
You know I'm in love
With an uptown girl
They danced synchronized, as if everyone knew what the person next to them, would do, before they even did it, and Jeff imagined that it would have looked amazing.
My uptown girl
You know I'm in love
Nick stepped forward and everyone knew something was about to happen, so the music they made a Capella, were toned done, and Nick got his chance to shine through. And so he did. Holding the note on the last word, and it sent shivers down Jeff's spine, even though he tried not to let anyone notice.
With an uptown girl
The silence following the performance where thick and heavy, but it didn't last for long, before people started cheering, laughing and talking.
"Soo-?" Nick's voice suddenly sounded and the shorter boy were standing right in front of Jeff. He'd been fast to leave practice after the song were finished. He hadn't been ready to talk to Nick just yet, and he'd had a strange feeling inside. Sort of empty, because of the wonderful joy of the music ending much sooner than he'd wanted it to.
"So?" Jeff questioned the brunette. Not ready at all, to talk about the joy he'd felt when they were all singing and he were definitely not ready to try and figure out his feelings. He wanted to hate Nick for the change he made in Jeff's life, but someone he didn't really hate him as much as he wanted to.
"What did you think?" Nick asked and smiled. A smile that Jeff never thought he'd see on Nick's face. A smile that showed him just how he excited he was for the answer he was hoping to get.
"You don't seriously think, that singing that song would make me change my mind about you?" Jeff said and Nick's face fell completely. Jeff was really hoping that it was true when they say, that the best way to protect yourself, is to be the first to attack. But for some reason, even though Nick at this very moment seemed completely harmless, Jeff still felt the need to protect himself.
"Tell me you don't want me." Nick said, and for the first time ever, Jeff heard a bit of insecurity and vulnerability in Nick's voice. He almost felt sorry for talking to him like that.
"What?"
"Tell me you don't want me!" Nick repeated Jeff felt like something cold ran down his spine; He had to look away. "Look me in the eye and tell me honestly that you don't want me, and I'll leave you alone, I fucking swear!" At the last words, Nick's voice rose and just stared at Jeff, who slowly faced back to Nick.
"I can't-" Jeff said. After Nick's words went in to his brain, he suddenly knew exactly what he was feeling and it wasn't hatred. "I can't say that." Jeff told him, but before Nick could say anything else, Jeff turned around on his heel and walked off.
"Hey Jeff!" Nick exclaimed, but Jeff could hear the smile on his face. Jeff stopped in his tracks, but didn't turn around to face the brunette. "Does that mean you'd give me a chance?" Nick asked. He didn't get a reply, he just watched Jeff's back stand there for a moment, before he began to walk off again. He didn't get an answer, but something in the silence that met him, told him that it wasn't a no.
A few days passed by, where Jeff didn't hear from or see Nick around the school, and he actually started to worry. He'd finally completely realized and admitted to himself that he did in fact like the other boy. The boy he'd spent so much time trying to avoid and to hate. At least dislike. But he hadn't been able too. Even though he did dislike the way Nick did some of the things he did, he couldn't dislike him.
Now it was the weekend and Jeff were lying on his bed, at the dorm, staring at the ceiling. He was thinking hard about the things Nick had said to him last time they talked. He also wondered about how Nick had understood Jeff's actions that day. Jeff sighed to himself and suddenly heard a knock on the door.
Jeff got up and went to open the door. Outside stood Wes and looked at him, with a smile plastered of his face.
"Hey?" Jeff greeted when he saw the boy, who were more friend with Thad than him. "Thad's not here, he's home for the weekend." He said, as he expected Wes to be here, to talk to Thad and not him, because why would he be here to talk to Jeff?
"I know." Wes smiled at Jeff. "It's actually you I'm here to talk to."
"Really?"
"Yeah. The few of us that are here, need to go to an emergency Warblers practice." Wes said and pointed down the hall, in the direction they would have to go.
"Oh. Okay. What's the emergency, though?" Jeff wondered as he put on his Dalton blazer.
"We need to talk about some.. Things." Wes said, and Jeff noticed the way Wes stopped to think about what he was going to say. Jeff just pushed it aside as wondering about how much he could say before they got there.
"Okay. Well I'll be right there, then." Jeff smiled at his friend.
"Great. I'll go on then." Wes finished and left, walking quickly down the hall.
Jeff went back to his bed and picked up his phone, slipping it in his blazer pocket. He didn't waste any time on going to the bathroom, to look at himself before leaving his dorm. He didn't even think about the fact that his hair might be messed up, his thoughts were still slightly circling around Nick, the things that'd happened between them and the feeling they supposedly shared. He wasn't completely sure yet, if Nick really felt the things he tried to make Jeff believe he felt, but he wasn't convinced that he didn't mean it either. But he knew what he felt and he was in love. Even if it was hard to admit.
Walking down the hall and turning a corner. Jeff walked towards practice but suddenly he saw something he hadn't expected to see.
A little down the hall stood all the guys from the warblers, who'd stayed at school, with they're fronts turned towards Jeff. There were also a few other students from the school. Right in the middle stood no other than Nick.
Jeff stopped when he saw this and wondered what was happening. He didn't get much time to think about it, before Nick took a step forward.
"Jeff." Nick simply said. He looked at Jeff and tried to figure out what he was thinking, by the look in his eyes. It wasn't easy though, but when Jeff took a few steps closer, standing almost right in front of Nick, it was suddenly much easier to see the wonder in the blonde's eyes.
"Yea?" Jeff questioned under his breath, feeling in his gut, that something was about to happen.
"Look, I know I'm not the words greatest guy," Nick started and Jeff could see that he fought to keep looking into Jeff's eyes. "And I know that I sometimes do and say things that I probably shouldn't. I know I need to think a bit harder before I just act and I know I'm not the friendliest guy you could ever meet but-" Nick continued and slipped a hand into his pocket.
Jeff couldn't keep Nick's gaze any longer. He felt a blush creep up on his face and he felt like something moved inside him. If it was good or bad, he wasn't entirely sure, but when Nick popped down on one knee, Jeff's breath caught in his throat.
"I know something else too-" Nick started, still not opening the little box, which Jeff had already caught a short glimpse of. "I know that you are something special, and that I have fallen deep and hard for you. Sometimes that makes me do stupid things, that I regret the second I've done it. It happens, because you make me feel all these kinds of feelings that I don't know how to deal with, when you don't want me." Nick held the box up and opened it, revealing a silver ring, with a black stripe all the way around in the middle. "Will you give me a chance to learn how to deal with my feelings and help me do so, by becoming my boyfriend? Jeff you're my uptown boy, so please let me be your downtown man."
Jeff let out a breath that he hadn't realized he'd been holding, since Nick got down on his knee and almost laughed at the last words Nick said. He didn't, but a hand made it's way up to cover his mouth and he couldn't get any words over his lips. He just looked startled at Nick.
"I mean if you say yes, you're completely in you good right to kick me out if I screw up-" Nick started slightly rambling, now really nervous about what was happening and Jeff saw it clearly when he looked into Nick's eyes.
"Yes-" Jeff muttered, hardly audibly.
Soon, the ring were on Jeff's finger and they were nervously embracing each other. Only briefly though, because Nick pulled away and looked Jeff in to eye once again. "I know that we technically already have had our first kiss but-" Nick said and gulped. "Maybe we could try and make our first official kiss better?" Jeff blushed madly. He'd never seen Nick like this, but he liked it. I mean, he liked Nick for who he was, even with his flaws, but this was nice for a change, so he nodded to show Nick that it was okay. He could kiss him.
Nick smiled faintly and leaned in. At first they didn't touch, other than their lips meeting. Nick were sort of scared, but when Jeff kissed back and placed his hands on Nick's chest, the brunette let his arms make their way around Jeff's waist and pulled him closer.
Jeff felt Nick's smile grow wider, and he couldn't help the smile forming on his own lips. Nick was going to try and be good for him, so he was going to be good for him too.
Please leave a review and tell me what you think. About the ending and about the story in general :*
For now, I'm going to set this story as completed, but! I might, might not, write a chapter more on a later basis, since I have some ideas to their first time. I won't promise you anything but let you know that it's a possibility.
