Chapter 4

Furious? Lightning was beyond furious. When she left his room, she was ready to tear this company building apart. She wanted to destroy everything in one swoop, only if she could summon the mythical beast like in the tale from her childhood, she would call upon it to destroy this place and slaughter that so called boss into thread. Seriously, what was that shit? The pink brunette employee knew there nothing wrong from her side, it was his fail instruction. His freaking instruction. But how could she know it was fail? And why it was her to take this job? This was too frustrating, too annoying, Lightning was tempted to unleash her wrath—spat back to this company's heir, put him back to his place and resign but—but for her sister—for Sarah she swallowed her pride and sucked it up. Slowly taking a deep breath, Ms. Farron tried to control her emotion as much as she could and walk back to her station, finish her work for the day.

The last 2 hours of work was hell because that certain incident. Still somehow our Lightning made it through without damage anything. She closed her station swiftly as the only thing on her mind was to get home or else someone might die—that certain someone.

Usually after work the older Farron has school session to attend but she ditched it today. The intent to murder that stupid boss was all inside her head at the moment and she had to release it on something or she would explode. Asshole, unreasonable bastard. The young employee took the phone out of her bag pocket and start texting her friend in college about her absence. Yes, she has another friend. Cloud—Cloud Strife. He was a weird fella, part time Pizza delivery boy and her classmate. Strangely enough, they were similar physically and it made everyone assume that they were sibling. He's always quiet and distant—just like her. So maybe that made them became friend.

'I'm not coming today. Shitty day.'

'Ok.' He replied after 10 long minutes. Lightning almost roll her eyes when checking his msg. Some friend he has there.

Lightning kicked open her room door and slammed it closed violently when she got inside then she threw her hand bag across the room crashing it with the bookshelf, and as expectedly stuffs on that shelf, in her bag fell scattered messily on the floor. Ignore all those commotion she made, Claire changed her work clothes and put on a gray shorts and a black tank top pick up iPod from her bed, made her way back down stair then pull out a bottle of water from the fridge and left to blow out her current boiling steam. Asshole, unreasonable bastard! She cursed to herself—again.

After an hours of letting her rage out in exchange of the sweat fully covering her body—felt a little bit relief—Lightning decided to go back home for dinner as she had burnt out a lot of her energy in that work out session with a strong murderous intent which she sure people around her could feel it. Picked up her towel, she proceed to wipe clean furious sweat on her forehead while her right hand wandered to turn off the running machine she wase working on. When it stopped, the pinkette gathered her stuffs and gulped to the last drop of her water fulfilling her hydration she sweated then left to the exit. Okay, let's get home. She muttered.

Lightning opened her house front door and took off her shoes, put it back on the rack on her right side corner. She was greeted by aroma of the food which her sister was cooking in the kitchen and that made Lightning's stomach grumbled. As on cue the older sibling poked her head to look inside the kitchen and as expected her sister was there, cooking something on the stew. She walked inside, poured herself a cup of graph juice then settle down on the dining table.

"Welcome home sis." Sarah greeted while her eyes still glued down on the board, chopping vegetable.

Lightning just hummed acknowledge in respond, sipped her drink and placed it back down. However, it seemed like hunger had got the better of her so she reached out for Kokei peanut can in the tray middle of the table, opened cover, she poured the content on her palm then pick it up one by one to consume. Sarah heard the commotion her older sister made, she couldn't help but smile to herself. She started "So you're hungry huh?" The cook of farron household then pick up the chopped vegetable she just done, plopped it into the boiling stew and stirred it a bit. While raising her hand the younger sibling continue "Dinner will be ready in about an hour-" dried her hands with clothes which was hanging on the oven handle, put it back and turn around to Lightning's direction, she noted her sister's outfit.

"-no school today?" She asked.

"I'm a bit tired so I didn't go." Came the reply while chewing her snack.

"Alright. So when you finish your snack, go freshen up and rest. I'll call you when dinner is ready."

"Thank you Sarah." Lightning ate her last peanut, got up made her way to her room. She should go and tidy up the mess she made earlier.

Got to her room, the pink hair Farron propped down to pick up the mess scattered on her bedroom carpet, Geez, what have I done? Seriously everything was that idiot's fault. She scorned, irritately doing the task. Done putting everything back to its place, Lightning opened her closet and fished out pajamas for a change after a nice warm bath she was about to have. 20 minutes have passed, finished with the bath Lightning get herself ready and back to her room. Warm bath is really refreshing, she really loved it. It calmed her nerve and help relax her tense muscle—even mentally as well. Lightning lied down on her bed and stared blankly to the ceiling. Long day is nothing new to her but today was different. She was tired both physically and mentally—more than how she usually has. Maybe it because she worked out today after full time working however, she couldn't deny that the weight in his word was what bother her the most. Lightning used to get scolded before—well, it's obvious for every employee—by her previous employer and she coped with it pretty well since it was reasonable, understandable and yeah she was wrong. But what happened today was not the same, it made her angry and – she hate to admit it—a bit upset. It doesn't matter if she was at fault or not anyway, that mistake was not big enough to deserve those statements. The Farron close her eyes and took a deep breath. She wouldn't understand but she could find solution for herself. Whatever his deal was, she'd never knew but she fixed it to herself that she would leave no chance for something like this to happen again. Her boss was an only son and heir to the whole business so she should be more caution with his sensitive-cocky attitude, she noted to herself. Rich people are asshole.

"Sis, dinner is ready!" Sarah's voice from down stair snapped Lightning back to reality. She lost in her thought and almost forget that she was so starving.

"I'm coming."

Dinner was pleasant and to share it with your family made it even better. Sarah's cooking skills was on par with the chief of 5 stars restaurant in Budhum or so Lightning believed. This made older Farron remember their mother and she pretty sure that whom Sarah inherited her skills from. Sometime Claire wonder how would she feel if their parents still alive? What would everyday like to have parents to depend on? She was 16 when they died so yes she knew what it like to have a parents but time passed and she no longer remember those feeling. Every day of the past 4 year it was just her and Sarah, as the oldest child Lightning was always be there for everything, for her sister. However, when she herself upset she didn't know what to do. The older pinkette was never a type to talk about herself, she's always struggling in expressing herself. Every emotion of her beside anger, she always keep it to herself. She just couldn't speak it out, so whenever she upset she sought distraction. There's always been meeting up with few friends or do things to distract herself whenever she got problem. This time was no different, she was upset—though she wouldn't admit it—Lightning distracted herself again. Small talk about random topics was held during dinner between the two sisters and that made Lightning felt better. When they both done, the elder did the washing while the younger tidied up the dining table and other part of their kitchen then left to living room watching tv. Lightning scrubbed the last dish put it in washing machine rack, locked the door and let it further clean in there. She then started cleaning any mess of spilled water, washed food around the sink clean and dried and finally wash her hands. Checking to be sure that everything cleaned and clear one last time, Lightning turned the light off and left to join her sister.

Plopped down on the couch next to the younger girl on her left side, Lightning notice that Sarah was occupied on her phone so she snatched tv remote on the coffee table in front her, surfing the channel around lazily. Watching TV was not really her thing but she need it for tonight. TV shows were all annoying so she wondered what made it famous and most importantly how could people love to watch it? She'd never knew. Modelling, singing, dancing shows, over drama love series flooded almost every channel, to be really honest if Lightning didn't need distraction she wouldn't sit there and deal with all those stuffs at all. Finally, settled with funny animation channel she luckily found after diving pass those crap shows for what like eternity. After 15 minutes in watching and chuckling with the show, the strawberry blond remember about the meeting with Fang and Vanille tomorrow morning so she turned to ask her sister who was done with the phone and had joined her watching tv a while ago.

"Oh Sarah, what time we have to be there again tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow? Yeah, Fang said about 10ish."

"Alright."

….

Lightning's circle was small, aside from her sister, she has only Fang, Vanille, Sazh—her previous manager—and Cloud. They were so close and she really trusted them however, she did have some acquaintances from her work places and such but she couldn't expect them to be friend since mostly those people would just disappear when they change their work or lost contact unlike those few named friends, they stick around—persistently. To be honest, it was perfect for her personally. Claire never likes drama, won't ever will and hate to deal with it, so having friends whom straight forward, weird and nerd fitted her bill perfectly and she really grateful about it.

Sat on the couch of living room waiting for her younger sibling getting ready, Lightning was browsing her phone randomly. Let the hair flow free on her back along with her usual messy bang framed the face, she wore a dark blue jean shorts, white sleeveless T-shirt with black Pretty Girl Sweat letters imprinted on the front and a worn out long neck brown boots, her usual attire for typical summer day in Budhum. Her right leg was on the left one and it kept tapping on the floor impatiently. Lightning scrolled up and down her smartphone searching for something interesting to read while waiting but since she found none so she dropped it and decided to do some tidy up in the front yard instead. Another 15mn had past, Sarah finally done, she was in her pink dress that end just a bit above her knees with a pink sandals. The older sister wanted to complaint for that 30mn she's been waited but eventually decided against it, she just went back inside to wash her hands and pick up her bag from the couch and get going.

"So ready to go?"

"Yes, sis."

…..

It didn't take long to get to Fang's place. They lived just a few blocks away from the Farron sibling, so all it took was 2 bus stops and about 10mn walk. Now standing in front of the door of their friends' house. It was an old model house with 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom and a big backyard. Lightning paused the button of the front door on her right side and waited. Stumbles could be heard from inside and a few second later the door cracked open revealing a flustered Vanille in orange mini skirt and white short sleeves T-shirt. She smiled shyly and invited her 2 friends inside with her high pitch voice.

"Guys, come inside."

"Hey!" The Farrons greets back.

Lightning didn't miss this extra weird behavior of the orangi blond girl and didn't willing let it slide either, so she halted and shot the question while stepping into the hall behind the said girl.

"What's wrong vanille? You're sick or something?" The younger girl was taken aback a bit with the sudden question and when the older pink reaching her forehead for the temperature.

"N-no. I'm fine. Really." Vanille replied with a light chuckle.

"If you say so." Lightning accepted skeptically and continue inside. Sarah put down her bag on the table and gone into the kitchen helping with the food with Vanille follow suit shortly. Lightning went ahead to Fang's room and knocked it abruptly.

"Fang?"

"Coming." The pulsian girl came out, she was wearing pale blue jeans with long sleeves green shirt. Her hair was messy in the aftermath-of-sleeping style and she looked barely awake. The Farron noted the misery condition so she just smiled and left her friend to waking up since she knew Fang will come find her afterward. Lightning left the main house to backyard, sat down on a swing under big tree about 15 meters from the house's fence. 5 minutes gone by and Fang showed up as predicted.

"Here." She handed a bottle of water to Lightning then screwed opened another one for herself.

"Long night?" The pink hair asked when she done drinking water she just got.

"Yeah. 2 weeks of night shift this month. I'm dying." Fang huffs

Lightning couldn't help but laugh to herself. Fang worked at Casino in the city, an attendant supervisor or something like that. Fang didn't attend college, at least not yet as per her. She's been working there since high school as an attendant and she's a big shot now, aka supervisor but supervisor or not dealing with customers was inevitably. Lightning knew Fang like the back of her hand, Fang was wild and straight forward, any wrong move you'll get your face smash by her so how come this wild girl able to work in that casino for all these years was more than a mystery to Lightning. That an interesting part and the center of teasing topic of Fang that the pink hair usually kept pressing on.

"Nah, oaf like you won't die that easily." And that earned a nasty glare from the older woman. Anyhow, Lightning ignored it and changed the topic. She started.

"So what we're doing today? And what for?"

"BBQ for lunch. Vanille's introducing her boyfriend." Fang stated nonchalantly and her eyes was scanning for any mess in the grass, note it for cleaning up when she has time the next day.

"Oh?" That surprised the eldest Farron, so Vanille's odd behavior earlier was because of this? Lightning was about to dig into this a little bit more but Fang seemed to sense it so she declared before her friend get to say anything.

"Ask the girl yourself if you want to know more."

"Fine." Lightning agreed and drank her water once more.

….

They started their Lunch. Fang was looking after the sausages, steak, vegetable and breads on BBQ with Sarah help occasionally. On the table not far from a swing where the 2 girls was chatting before, Lightning was making her burger with the poor girl—Vanille AND the guest of honor hadn't arrived yet.

"He's late" The pony tailed girl murmured looking her phone's clock—she's been doing that for the last 20 minutes, Lightning noticed.

"So, who is he?" Sarah who just came back from helping Fang, asked while pulling chair to sit down next to her sister.

"A-Ah, he's from my school, a graphic design and programmer student. He's a game programmer at the moment." The young orange hair stuttered and giggled shyly.

"Sound cool." Sarah cooed.

"And, what he's like then?" Lightning added bluntly.

"Hmmm, let's see. He….."

"He's an idiot!" Fang interrupted from afar of her spot and Vanille pouted to her cousin in protest.

"Come on Fang." That earned a chuckle from the pink hair siblings.

Car machine roaring sound emitted from the front house—indicated that someone has arrived and parking so as on cue Vanille clumsily got up—her legs knocked on the table they were eating on abruptly shaking the food on it slightly—rushed to greeting the special guest.

"He's here."

The 3 remained girls just stayed there and continued whatever they was doing until Vanille emerged back with strange blond boy who has a stupid grin all over his face. Lightning observed the boy for a moment then commented quietly to herself, He's really an idiot.

"Hi there everyone. I'm Prompto. Nice to meet you all." The blond boy greeted cheerfully and even spread his grin bigger.

…..

Weekend was over too quickly, well, it was 48 hours like usual but to Lightning it was too quick. On Saturday, after lunch she was playing game with Fang and the new boy as well as got a bit drunk so Sunday she slept half of the day, when Lightning woke up it was all about laundry and cleaning so the weekend has gone, working days came—again. Every worker hate Monday morning and Lightning was no exception. However, all those stuffs aside, the situation she currently in this Monday was even more ridiculous—outrageous. Initially, she thought, maybe she was still sleeping and dreaming in her bed, maybe this all was just an illusion in her head but reality can't be defy and no denying that. The manager—Noctis Caelum—her manager just told her that she'll accompany him to the bank. That was totally unexpected considering what happened last week. Also the questions were why he wants her to go with him? And was this necessary? Whatever scenario she tried, she found no legit answer to this at all and questioning was impossible since Lightning didn't want something like last week to happen again. So here she was, walking—following behind the man, confusing to herself. When they reached the floor near parking space, the spiky hair man in suit turned to face his employee, smiled and said.

"It's almost lunch time, so let head for lunch first."

What?! Was only word came to Lightning's mind after heard his comment. She was just dumbfounded.

I should have refused…
