Chapter Twenty-Eight: Saving Tara
Year 2004
Standing in the shadows, Willow watched as her past self walked down the streets. She could see Amy and the second witch that had cursed her silently stalking the past Willow and felt a sense of anger at the thought of what would be happening very soon. She knew she couldn't let her former self see her. If this Willow saw her, it could cause more changes for the future than what she was already planning to do.
Willow knew changing the past wasn't the brightest idea. Not when it could cause too many issues in the future, but she was prepared to accept whatever consequences to her own life if the goddess felt someone needed to be punished. After all, Willow had used magic to come back here to this time and place, and all magic came with a price.
As the Past Willow walked by with Amy and the other, Willow quickly slid from the shadows and followed the three, knowing where they were going and what was destined to happen. When the past Willow turned a corner, Willow quickly tossed up a barricade, blocking Amy and the other witch from following her younger self. The two witches turned in shocked, surprise and confusion written on their faces at the sight of Willow standing before them.
"So you turned evil again?" Amy asked, smirking. "About time. What's with the old you that was walking ahead of us?"
"To answer your first question, this is what you did to me. What you both did to me. Or should I say will do?" Willow said, glaring at her former friend and the stranger next to her. "This is the result of your curse that you were planning to put on me tonight."
"What? How do you know we were planning to curse you?" the witch next to Amy asked, anger clear in her voice.
"Well, I guess this could answer both of the questions you have asked. I'm from the future. Almost a century in the future actually."
"Yeah, right. I honestly don't believe that. How would you have come back? It's not possible to come back in time," Amy argued, glaring at her old friend.
"Maybe not for you, but you seem to forget that in this time period I was the most powerful witch around. My power has only grown since you placed this curse on me that kept me from dying. I can do spells you can only dream of. I have more magic in the tip of my little finger than you do in your whole body and the bodies of your descendants."
"How do I know you aren't just a demon with Willow's face? Lying to me and threatening me because you don't want her to live forever?"
"If I was a demon, the one thing I'd want more than anything is for you to do this curse. After all, it means Dark Willow will be very close to the surface. What better way to cause destruction and chaos then to let you curse me? If I was a demon, I'd want to watch Dark Willow destroy the world. Which I don't. Destroying the world is not right. Been there, attempted that. Don't want to do it again."
"Alright. You have me convinced. You are Willow from the future. No one else can babble like that. So what are you here to do? Stop us?" Amy wondered, smirking at Willow. "You'll have to kill me to keep me from cursing you. Because whether I curse you here or in the future, I will get my revenge on you."
"No, I won't," Willow argued, tilting her head as she stared at the dark witch in front of her. "I don't need to kill you to stop you."
"So you're going to appeal to my sense of logic. That should go over very successfully. What are you planning to do? Bring up our old friendship? Talk about how we use to sneak brownies when my mom was going through one of her crazy rampages? How about we talk about you trapping my mom inside that trophy?"
"I didn't trap her inside the trophy, Amy. She trapped herself. Buffy knocked down a mirror and it reflected the spell back at your mom. Besides, your mom was insane. I guess we know where you get it from."
Amy's eyes flashed in anger at Willow's words as her magicks started to rise around her, causing Willow just to roll her eyes. "Goddess, I forgot how useless your spells are. The only spells that were even remotely effective that you cast on me was this curse and the spell that caused me to look like Warren. Didn't Rack teach you anything useful?"
"No, you killed him before he could teach us!" the other witch yelled, her eyes full of anger and hatred as she glared at Willow.
"Yes, I did. Which reminds me, you asked me how I was planning to stop you from cursing me. You see, I learned all these nifty little spells over the last century and I've had loads of free time to tweak them into effective spells. There's one in particular I have come to enjoy using. It's a spell that a few light witches taught me, and of course, Giles helped me perfect it."
"What is it?" the second witch asked, afraid of what the powerful witch was planning to do to them.
"It's a binding spell. The one I had been taught was only a temporary binding spell, but Giles and I worked to make it have a permanent result. We had changed it for me, for the next time I lose control, but I think it would be effective here as well. After all, what's worse then the most powerful witch going insane and going back dark?"
"Nothing," Amy argued.
"I disagree. I think what's worse is having that dark witch live forever killing her soul mate over and over again in order to ensure she never died."
"You lost control and killed Tara, didn't you? That's why you're back to stop the curse?" Amy guessed, smirking at Willow.
"No, but I've lost control in her presence and I refuse to risk her life. I won't allow you to make me into this...this demon. If that means taking away your ability to use magic, I will. Tara's life means more to me than anything. She is my soul mate."
"You don't have the guts to perform a dark magic spell to bind our powers," Amy snapped, glaring at Willow.
"Its light magic, but I would do this spell whether it was light or dark magic. Like I said, its for Tara."
"Willow, wait. What if we promise not to curse you? What if we call a truce right now? I won't try to curse you if you don't bind my powers? Deal?" Amy offered, glancing over at the other witch to see her nodding in agreement.
"No deal. I'm not risking you going after my friends. Not again," Willow said, before switching over to Latin and watching as the light show of her magic began to fill the air and wrap around the two witches in front of her.
The binding spells took a few minutes to complete, and Willow felt drained from performing the spell on two people at once. She stared at Amy and the other witch, watching for any sign that the spell had not taken. Finally she just nodded at them and walked back into the shadows, heading back to her time period.
