A/N: *DRAMA ALERT!*
After a few days, Hiccup was officially eight days old. Stoick finally organized his son's dedication so everyone could see him and know his name. Gothi was shocked when she heard that he lived passed the week. Everyone was wondering why it took so long for him to be dedicated. The family stood in the front seeing Valka still holding her son in the sling. When Stoick was ready, Gothi stomped her staff on the floor making it echo in The Great Hall.
Everyone stopped talking and turned their attention to the source of the sound. Stoick cleared his throat and took a step forward. He turned to his wife and she stood next to him giving him a small smile. Stoick turned his attention to the crowd then spoke. "This is a day for celebrating, but not just for my family, for all of us. Even at the age of eight days my son has proven himself to be a fighter. My son was born early, and people said he didn't have a chance of surviving. He proved them all wrong," Stoick turned to his wife and held out his hands. Valka placed the child in his arms, and then he turned back to the crowd.
"My son has lived even though everyone said he wouldn't make it. As young as he is, I believe he'll do something great for this village. Whatever kind of man he may become, he'll become chief of this village. I give you my son and heir Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III."
His voice echoed in the hall, and then the room was filled with cheering for the small child. Stoick felt his son squirming and heard little whimpers. He handed his son back to his wife and she stared to bounce him in her arms. When he made his way down to the crowd, Ingrid walked up to her friend.
Valka wrapped an arm around her shoulders and asked how she was doing. Ingrid pulled away and looked at the child in Valka's arms. "Oh, I was wondering when I could get to see the little miracle child that Unn was telling me about."
"Miracle child?" Valka questioned looking at her sister-in-law in the crowd.
"That's what Unn's been calling him this morning. Do you mind if I hold him?" Ingrid asked pointing at the baby. Valka handed her son to her and helped her adjust her son in a more comfortable position. Ingrid looked down at the baby watching him move his hands across his chest. "Aww, he's so cute. I hope my baby will be as cute as him."
"Oh Ingrid, all babies are cute. I'm sure your child will be just as adorable." Valka smiled watching her young friend holding her son. Then out of the corner of her eye, she saw two women walking towards her. Valka turned her head and saw her mother and Unn (with Snotlout in the sling) coming towards them.
"Well, looks like everyone is glad to finally meet the child that will be their next chief." Mrs. Jorgenson smiled looking at her grandson in Ingrid's arms. Ingrid handed Hiccup back to his mother and she placed him in the sling. Valka smiled at her son who was opening his eyes. Then she raised her head up and looked in the crowd hoping to find someone.
"Where's dad?"
"I'm sorry dear; he said he would try to make it."
Valka put her hands on her hips and raised a brow at her mother. "He couldn't make it? Everyone else was able to come, so what was so important that he couldn't come to Hiccup's dedication?" she snapped making her mother raise her hands up above her chest.
"Hey, I'm just as upset as you are, but I can't control the man. If I could he'd be doing the dishes by now."
Valka looked down at her son, and then handed him to her mother. "Can you watch him? I'm going to find my father."
~oOo~
Valka walked to her parent's home and pounded on the door with her fist. "Dad! I know you're in there! If you won't open this door I'll walk in any way!" It didn't take long for her to hear footsteps getting louder, and then the door swung open. When Valka saw her father, she kept her arms crossed and frowned at him.
"Where were you?" she hissed walking by him to get in the house.
"What are you talking about?"
"Hiccup's dedication, you were the only one who didn't show up." Valka growled putting her hands on her hips. Her father put a hand on his head and let out a sigh.
"I am so sorry, I guess I over slept."
Valka narrowed her eyes at him and took a step closer to him. "Over slept? Mother said you would try to make it." She saw him raise a brow, and then he took a seat in a chair.
"Did she now?"
"Dad! Just tell me why you didn't come. Today was very import to me and you missed it!"
"Valka-"
"I at least deserve an answer!" she cried out making her father stand up from the chair making it fall behind him. He folded his hands into a fist and took a step closer to her.
"Get out, before I change my mind to spare you the truth." He mumbled opening the door to let her out. Valka blinked her eyes, and then she walked to the door and slammed it shut.
"The truth is what I deserve, not a lie to spare my feelings." She stated crossing her arms over her chest. Shoutlout sighed and took a step back from her.
"I have a grandson," He whispered.
"We established that dad, I was the one who carried him and pushed him out."
"No, I have a grandson."
Valka narrowed her eyes at him, and then let an out light gasp taking a step back from him. "You've disowned my son? Why? What has he done to you?! He's only eight days old!" she shouted feeling an ache in her chest.
"It's nothing personal-"
"Nothing personal?!" she cried out, "all of this is personal! I finally have my son, and you don't see him as your own grandson? I lost my first son three years ago, now I have my son whom fought for his life. Do you understand how hard it was for me to not leave him for a minute fearing I might find him dead!?"
"Valka-"
"No!" she cried out making her throat hurt. She cleared her throat before speaking again. "Just tell me why you don't like my son." She mumbled looked down at her feet.
She heard him let out a sigh. "He ruined it."
"Ruined what?" she whispered.
"My plan, the plan I came up with 13 years ago." He mumbled walking away from her. Valka looked up at her father and tilted her head a bit.
"13 years ago? What happened-" Valka rolled her eyes and let out a sigh before putting her hand on her forehead. "The secret betrothal that you and Mr. Haddock set up." She mumbled trying to put it all together. "Why did you really set me up to be with Stoick? Was it really all about the fear of me never meeting a man, or was that part of it?" she asked slowly walking up to him.
Shoutlout sighed in defeat and put his hands on his hips. "I did fear that you would never meet a man because of you being an almost hiccup, but that wasn't the only reason." Valka felt a lump growing in her throat. "When we set up your betrothal, I could have picked anyone, but I asked the chief if you could marry his son."
~oOo~
13 years ago, the air was crisp and cool from the night. Shoutlout walked out of his house and saw his chief walking down the stairs out of The Great Hall with his son. Shoutlout ran after them. "Sir, sir! Can I speak to you?" he shouted getting his chief's attention. The chief nodded then turned to his son. "Stoick, can you give me and Mr. Jorgenson a moment?"
"Sure dad, I'll see you back at the house." Stoick then left his father and went to his home. The chief smiled watching his son, and then turned back to Shoutlout.
"What can I do for you?" he asked.
"Well, you see sir, it's about my daughter."
"Oh little Valka! She's such an adorable tike. How is she?"
"She's fine, but I'm worried about her life."
"Is it about the dragon thing again? You know she'll grow out of it."
"It's not that, well a little. Listen, with Valka and her crazy dragon theories of them not being the enemy, and her being an almost hiccup. I'm worried no one will want to marry her."
"She's seven Lout, give her a few years. Like I said, she'll grow out of it." He said walking away from Shoutlout.
"Sir! She's practically a hiccup; you know what happens to people like her." The chief stopped in his tracks and walked back to him.
"What do you want me to do about it?"
"Is Stoick betrothed to anyone yet?" The chief lowered his brow.
"My son isn't looking for anyone right now. I haven't talked to any chiefs yet to set a marriage with their daughters."
"What do you say about my daughter marring your son?"
The chief was taken back by his request. "Marriage? I don't think my seventeen your old son will want to marry a seven year old girl."
"No no no, I mean after she becomes a woman. Your son will be a great match for her. Since he's known as Stoick the Vast; large, big, and strong. Everything opposite of my daughter, his traits could over hers in a child."
"A child uh? You want my son to marry your daughter so you won't have a hiccup in the family?"
"It's sad, but yes. I think her reputation in the village will be great if she has a strong son and is married to your son."
"You mean your reputation," He grumbled.
Shoutlout crossed his arms and looked up to his chief. "Will you do it or not?"
The chief stroked his beard and pressed his lips together. "10 years apart is nothing compared to what my wife and I's age gap was, it would save time and money for Stoick not to marry a daughter from another island, it'll help your family's name as well….."
Shoutlout smiled listening to his chief. He saw his chief smile and he put a hand on his shoulder. "…You got yourself a deal, when your daughter has become a woman we'll marry them off! With my son married to your daughter you won't have any hiccups in your blood line."
Shoutlout let out a light laugh and patted his chief on the back. "This is time for a celebration!"
~oOo~
"I thought I was doing the right thing. Marrying you to Stoick should have ended the hiccup cycle in the family."
Valka's vision blurred and she covered her mouth with a hand. She felt the lump in her throat growing stronger and a whimper fell out. Shoutlout went out to put a hand on her, but she swatted it way.
"Valka, will you please talk to me?"
The young women lowered her shaking hand away from her face and looked at her father will tear filled eyes. "You are a selfish old man, you are not allowed to come into my house, or see me or my family ever again." She whispered walking to the door and placing her hand on the handle.
"Valka-"
"Don't speak to me, or I might change my mind to not throw you off the island." She whispered walking out the door making it slam behind her.
A/N: You have no idea how bad I've been wanting to write this chapter ever since I first wrote the first chapter back in August. Well, what do you think? Leave your thoughts in the reviews and I'll see you later, bye!
