A/N: I own nothing except a copy of this great game. Second note: His singing lines are demarked "like this," and her lines are demarked "like this." Them singing together is demarked "like this."

It let out a bellow that could be heard across the four corners of Hyrule, and stomped through the courtyard. Each footstep created shockwaves, cracking the earth around its feet and causing trees to be knocked askew with their roots hanging in the air. Its face, an unholy combination of elephantine and swine, was a mask of animalistic rage, eyes a glowing yellow with no pupils or trace of humanity. Long and shaggy fur coated its body, and its tail coiled and uncoiled in a disorienting fashion behind it. It was still coated in the armor of the man that it had once been.

"What…is that?" Midna managed to ask. All fighting in the Hyrulian fields had ceased at the sight of the beast in the distance approaching them, as even the armies of darkness were in awe of the raging being approaching them.

"I…am uncertain." Fi, who had floated up beside Midna, managed to say after a moment's silence. "Its life readings are familiar to the one they call Ganondorf but…"

"But what?" Midna asked testily. Fi turned to look at her.

"I am detecting a most incredible power increasing the beast's already-prodigious strength. It is clearly in possession of the entire Triforce."

"Oh…that's perfect." Midna hissed. She looked over and saw that a few Bokoblins were kneeling before the approaching beast with awe and religious reference. She wrinkle her nose, and held up her hand towards them. There was a flash, and they were turned into a pile of ash. "Keep fighting!" Midna shouted. "Let's take as many of them as we can before that…thing gets here!"

"There's a good idea…" Lord Gawain muttered to himself, having picked himself up off of the corpse of a Darknut. He got to his feet. "Hyrulians! Form a shield wall! Archers to the back! Prepare for when that thing gets here!"

There was a squawking noise, and he turned to see Captain Dorias descending from the air on his trusty Loftwing.

"Lord Gawain, sir!" He shouted. "I can be at the Goron mountains in five minutes with orders for them to fire on that thing!" He shouted.

"There's no time." Lord Gawain said. "Take some of your best men and clear out the outer battlements, and commandeer those catapults. Use them to slow down the creature's advance." He looked grimly to the distance. "If Petra is watching this battle from the mountains, then I hope that he recognizes that that thing is the top priority."

Impa watched the beast approach, and turned towards Agitha. The girl was staring up at it with awe and a trace of fear.

"Wha…what is that, Miss Impa?" She asked. Impa was about to say something, but then decided to hold her tongue.

"Just…just stay behind me." She said softly to the little girl. "And…and hold onto Meathook as tight as you can. We'll keep you safe."

She hated lying.

The beast stomped through the pathway to the town, each footstep creating a shockwave. Darunia pulled his hammer out of the skull of a Moblin he'd just crushed, and looked up at the beast before him. He pounded his chest and roared at the top of his lungs.

"Ho HO! You needed to really ugly yourself up before you faced me, didn't you beastie?" He pointed his hammer and shouted. "Well, now I think we can call it an even fight!"

The beast sauntered towards him…and then kept walking past the Goron, as if it had not even noticed the boatsful being at its feet. This was not taken well.

"HEY! I'm talking to you, pig head!" Darunia roared, rearing back and throwing his hammer as hard as he could at the back of the beast's head. It smacked into the small of the beast's neck with a dull thunk.

It was as if the world had stood still. Slowly, as if moving in slow motion, the beast turned around to face the little gnat that had dared to bother it. Darunia had a wicked girn on his face as he saw the glowing in the creature's mouth.

"Hah hah HAH! Now we will have FUN!" He shouted. He rolled out of the way just as the first laser blast from the creature's mouth struck the ground, leaving a small crater and a hissing of smoke and seared earth. Darunia popped up from his roll, and grabbed a large rock off the ground. It was far too heavy for even five men to lift up, but the Goron palmed it in one hand with the greatest of ease. With a yell, he hefted the object right at the beast's snout. The beast did not even react in time before the rock exploded against its face. It growled in annoyance, and prepared another energy beam blast.

"Chase me all you wish, demon! I fear no man, creature or beast, under or over the mountain!" He roared. He rushed over to a tree that had been knocked loose by the mighty beast's rampage, and with a roar deadlifted it out of the ground. Awkwardly, the Goron wound up backwards and swung the tree as hard as he could like a massive bat at the demon in front of him. This actually caused the beast to raise a forearm up in a rising shield block, shattering the tree into splinters. But he had its attention. Cackling like a madman, Darunia raced over to his fallen hammer, picked it up off the ground, and decided to fearlessly run circles around the lumbering beast before him.

Peering out from one of the windows of the great hall to witness the battle below, Zelda finally found her voice.

"Goddesses, they must protect the lives of absolute lunatics with the greatest of love and care." She got down from the table that she'd pulled over to allow herself a better view, and hastily ran over to the three men waiting for her. "Come on! There's no time to lose. I need to get what I was looking for." She led them all into the throne room, ignoring the dark decorations that the current user had put up, and led them behind the stone throne. She gestured to the wall, and with a concentrated effort the four of thme managed to pull out the wall to reveal the entrance to the secret garden.

"This is it." Zelda said. "I'm going to get what I need." She turned to the others. "Come with me if you wish. But do not question anything I ask of you."

They followed her into the garden.

After a while of frantic searching, Zelda stopped.

"Link, Elijah, I need you both to stand on either side of this." She said, gesturing to a worn statue covered in ivy. Link took his place next to the thing, and then realized: it was the same statue of Nayru that he had been leaning against the time that Zelda had nearly taken his head off with an arrow…

…and now he saw that she was drawing her bow, as if to prepare to do it again.

"Princess-" Itami interjected.

"Itami. Shut. The fuck. Up." Zelda said.

All three men fearfully went silent.

Zelda took out an arrow from her quiver and then roughly ran the edge of the tip against her palm to draw blood. She gently rubbed some of it onto the tip of the arrow, and then drew it into her bow. Though he knew that she was only aiming right next to him, Link could feel himself sweating in nervous tension.

There was a swishing sound as the arrow flew through the air, and the bloody projectile struck directly into the hands of the statue.

There was silence, and then a slow and earthen rumbling sound. They all watched as the ground in front of the feet of the the statue began to open up, revealing a small wooden chest inside. Zelda ran over and picked it up, holding it in her hands. She blew the dust off of the top of it as the others slowly gathered around her. She undid the clasps on the lock, and then flicked the box open.

They were beautiful.

"What…are those?" Link managed to ask after a moment of reverent silence.

"Light Arrows." Zelda said quietly. "Forged by the Goddess Nayru herself."

Itami stared at the projectiles in the box, watching, as they seemed to pulse with an unearthly golden light, and felt something in his stomach. He wasn't sure what it was. Was it fear? Was it awe? Was it…respect? He didn't know. He just couldn't stop staring.

"I…I didn't think that they were real." Elijah finally said. "I always thought that they were a story that your father told you when you were a kid! How did-"

"Only one who is chosen by Nayru can even touch them, let alone fire them." Zelda said. She cleared out her quiver of the regular arrows, and began to hastily stock it with the glowing Light Arrows. Each was seemingly hand-crafted like a beautiful woodworked piece of art, and the arrow tips were almost ornate to the point of impractical but never quite crossing that line.

"What do you need from us?" Elijah asked.

"You, Elijah, are to go to the dungeons." Zelda said. "Find everyone that you can, and free them. Itami and Link are to come with me. I will need protection as I get close to the beast. These are the only things that can weaken him. These and the Master Sword." She glanced at the weapon on Link's back, and then at him. "I will wound him gravely, but it will not be enough to separate him from the Triforce. Once the moment comes, you must shatter the bond he has formed with the divine. From there, he will be brought to mortal."

"What will happen then?" Link asked.

"Leave that to me." Zelda said coldly, walking out of the garden with her new weapons.

"GANGWAY!"

The soldiers in the square barely had time to register the sounds of the bloodied and battered Darunia running past them before another blast shook the ground. The beast was now stomping with a quickened pace towards the city, clearly having been irritated at the nuisance that was the Goron. No matter how many times it had stomped or thrown around the little rock man, it had gotten back up every time. It decided that it would simply have to crush its bones.

"Archers, fire!" One of the Hyrulian soldiers shouted.

A storm of arrows, almost enough to block the sun, went up into the air towards the beast. They all embedded in the fur of the creature, and then seemed to sink into its skin. The beast looked annoyed, and then let out a roar and spit. All of a sudden, a hail of arrows erupted from its mouth and began to decimate the archers that had fired upon it.

There was a flash, and a shimmering shield of light went up across the ground of the town square. Lana was holding up her staff towards the beast, creating a protective field where the arrows could not hurt her or the men and women around her. Walking backwards slowly, she shouted for the others to follow her. No one wasted any time, and soon they were all across the drawbridge. Lana slammed her staff into the ground, incinerating the bridge before her.

The beast stared at this minor inconvenience with what appeared to be great annoyance, before letting out a roar and then hopping over the fence, clipping its feet on the battlements and shattering the ancient stoneworks like they were made of sugar cubes. When it landed on the ground, it formed a shockwave that threw up soldiers both good and bad into the air like rag dolls. It did not seem to care that half of the combatants on the battlefield were ostensibly on its side; all were insects before it. Therefore, all must die.

Impa raced forward, taking advantage of an opportunity to fell some of the enemy soldiers around her. If the entire army could focus on this beast, then maybe that would give them all a chance. She let out a cry as she ambushed some stunned Moblins, cutting off their heads and then stabbing their friends. She turned around, however, to see that the beast had noticed her and was now preparing a blast from its mouth right towards her. There was no time to run. For whatever reason, Impa felt oddly peaceful.

Then the bombings started.

Coming from both the re-captured catapults on the battlements and from the distant guns in the foothills of the Goron mountains, a veritable hail of rock and explosives whistled through the air, before into the beast and the ground directly around it. Dropping her naginata and breaking out into a full-on sprint, Impa ran through the field as the world began to explode around her. She heard another noise, and realized it was her screaming.

Then a blast went off a few feet from her and to her right.

She was thrown into the air, and landed awkwardly on her ankle. She felt the bones snap, and she gave a cry of pain as she rolled to the ground. She landed on her face, and desperately tried to cry forward. But there was no way to get away from this; eventually one of the bombs would hit her.

But then she felt a strong pair of hands scoop her up, and hoist her over his back like a sack of potatoes. Impa barely had time to register the fact that Ishaka had picked her up, and was running as fast as he could for cover. All the world was exploding, and there was no sound but the ringing in her ears. He threw her forward right as another bomb detonated some feet behind them, and they were both thrown forward. She hit the ground, moaning in pain and completely incapacitated, and could hear him growling with pain beside her.

Midna finally brought her arm down from protectively shielding her eyes. After what had been a few moments of absolute hell, the bombing had stopped. The beast was lying on the ground, seemingly battered into submission from the hellish bombardment that had sacrificed the fields in an effort to take its life. She looked around, notcing that others were starting to stir and get back up to their feet, and then allowed herself to exhale.

And then the beast stirred.

Like a rumbling thunderstorm, it staggered back to its feet while growling all the same. It shook itself like a dog after being caught out in the rain, as a veritable coat of dust and debris was loosened from its fur. It looked around, and made eye contact with Midna. It snarled, and she saw its mouth starting to glow.

"Damn." The Twili muttered.

She barely had time to notice the small golden light flying towards the creature, but when it slammed into its shoulder she definitely noticed its impact. It was as if an electrical storm had gone off in the face of the beast, as tendrils of light and white lightning emanated off of the beast as it howled in pain. Nothing like the annoyance and tones of confusion that it had faced before. This was a scream of real pain. Some of the tendrils of electricity, seemingly as if they had a mind of their own, snaked off through the air and hit some of the nearby enemies, vaporizing them instantly.

Midna looked around to find the source of the light, and saw that, from across the bridge, there stood the princess. Along with that hero and that grouchy Ravager. Right behind them was Darunia, who was staggering along. But they were all trapped on the other side of the drawbridge that only moments ago Lana had completely toasted.

"Lana!" Midna shouted through a hoarse throat, while the beast gyrated in pain. "Get them across the bridge!"

Clutching her chest in pain, the white mage Lana pointed her staff towards the fallen drawbridge, and with the last of her magical strength created a glowing bridge out of shimmering light. She watched them all safely cross over, and collapsed to her knees, finally spent after an entire day of frenetic and life-risking battle.

"I will need time for another shot!" Zelda shouted as the four of them raced over the bridge. "And there won't be a large window for you to strike, Link!" She shouted.

"I can't get up that high in time!" Link shouted. "There's no way!"

"Non-nonsense!" Darunia shouted. "I will throw you!" He picked up the hero easily in his arm, and cupped his hand under Link's feet. "Say the word, and I shall javelin you to where you need to go!"

Link gulped, but nodded.

Itami kept racing past the princess and the others, and kept going until he found Lana. She weakly looked up at him and smiled, but then her eyes widened in shock as he practically tackled her, wrapping her up in a bearhug.

"Itami, wha-"

"Just hold me. If this is the end, I…I can't be alone." He muttered.

She nodded, and returned the embrace.

The beast scowled in pain, and felt the light fading away from it like a sunburn that had faded with time. Even in the midst of its animalistic rage, it could feel what that pain had been. The weapon of the Blue Goddess, no doubt. Which meant that the princess was somewhere out there. It let out a bellow, and felt the darkness pulsing within it. It roared to the heavens so loud that the Goddesses themselves could hear it.

"I. AM. KING!"

"That would be my father, asshole." Zelda whispered. She let the arrow go.

The beast turned around just in time as the projectile struck it in the gut. It howled in pain, and in a brief flash a glowing triangle of light appeared on its forehead.

"NOW!" Link shouted.

Darunia gave a mighty roar, and threw the hero as hard as he could.

Pointing his body forward and horizontal towards the beast as though he was an arrow, Link felt himself soaring through the air. The wind was whipping through his face, so much so that the mask he was wearing was unhooked and then blown away in the wind. His cheeks were numbed by the wind. But as he pointed the Master Sword towards his miniscule target, he took pleasure in the fact that the beast would see him face to face. He prayed he wouldn't miss.

He didn't.

He felt the Master Sword connect with the glowing triangle on the beast's forehead, and he felt something give like he was breaking a jewel. There was a sudden shattering noise, and he thought he saw three pieces of light go flying out from the point of contact. He felt a warmness in his hand, and then a burning. And then a familiar presence of light came within him.

It was then that he realized, as both he and the beast began to descend, that they had a long way to go.

In desperation, he hung on to the gradually shrinking demon, and began to crawl along its belly like a flea. He only had a few moments left. Finally, right before the point of impact, he tucked his head into his chin, and made sure the ancient armor he was wearing would be the point of contact.

He heard the beast slam into the ground, felt himself be caught by its bulbous belly, and then he let out a comical yell as he was then trampolined into the air about ten feet. He landed hard, rolling into a fall that caused him to go head over heels.

He stopped rolling, and lay moaning on the ground. Gingerly, he squeezed his fingers open and closed, and felt a wave of relief (before the wave of pain) that he wasn't paralyzed.

He felt the world returning to him slowly. It was like waking up from a dream, but there was something wrong. Even though he knew he was wide awake, there was something about him that was fading. He was getting tired at a rapid rate, a rate that wasn't normal. There was an urge deep within his brain, something that he had never felt before. And yet as he felt it, he knew exactly what it was.

He was dying.

He rolled over on his stomach, and looked at the back of his left hand. Horror filled his very being as he saw the glowing triangle was not there. The Triforce was gone. Where was the Triforce? If he didn't have it, then…he couldn't think that. He must find it. He must. Where was it? Where was-

There.

A few feet from him, half buried in the dirt and sand, was that wonderful bauble that granted him his power. Pulling his shattered body forward with his one good arm, he inched closer and closer to the piece of salvation. Each movement was getting harder and harder. He was getting closer and closer. As he felt his strength fading, he reached his outstretched fingers forward towards the Triforce of Power.

His hand came down on top of another one, a ragged hand covered in a ragged and worn cloth that was covered in dried blood and dirt and other earthen materials. He was barely able to process the fact that he was not holding onto the Triforce; he was holding onto the hand of the one that was holding onto the Triforce. He flitted his eyes over make eye contact.

Eye contact with him.

They stared at each other for a moment, nothing but a soft howling of wind in their ears. And then the other one smiled, a toothy grin that was missing several teeth.

"Jus' me…and my shadow." The boy said. He rolled over on his back, taking the Triforce and salvation with him.

Ganondorf let out a hoarse wheeze, and then rolled over onto his back as well. It was over. He didn't know what this feeling was. Was it defeat? Was it disappointment? No, it was something else. Something…more visceral. Something that he couldn't explain. But whatever it was, it was not anger. It was…just something else.

He was about to move, when he heard something approaching. Footsteps. They were moving slow, like the person that they bellowed to was barely able to stand, but they were coming towards his.

He blinked, and then opened his eyes and drew a ragged breath. Though his vision was fading, he could see her standing over him. Her expression was cold. She held a bow in her hands, and as she drew back the glowing arrow in it, she did not break eye contact with him.

Despite the situation, and the golden arrow pointed directly at his forehead, he managed to smile slightly.

"For your kingdom, princess?" He asked.

There was a silence.

"No." She whispered. "For me."

She let go.

There was a terrific flash, one that was blinding to everyone on the battlefield. It was like watching a sunrise directly in front of them, and then as soon as it had appeared it was gone.

She stood there, breathing slowly and heavily. She looked down at the body below her feet. It was once a man. It was once a demon. It was once her greatest threat.

Now it was a corpse. Nothing more.

She let out a sigh of exhaustion, and fell backwards and sat down. Her bow and the Light Arrows clattered to the ground right next to her, and she stared blankly off into the distance.

All was quiet.

And then, somewhere, a bird began to sing.
