"Inflatable pool
Full of Dad's hot air
I was three years old
Splashing everywhere
And so began my love affair
With water"

Aside from feeling angry and betrayed, Dean was a little jealous when Sam was accepted into Stanford University; to be that close to the beach, the sand, the surf, and – above all – the water.
Ever since being a young boy, Dean had nurtured a deep love for water. One of his few memories of Lawrence was his Dad blowing up a cheap inflatable pool, chucking the hose in, and letting Dean go wild. It hadn't been long before Sam was due and Dean had been relishing in his last few weeks of freedom. When John finally forced him to come inside the first thing Dean had told his parents was that he was going to teach his little sibling how to swim.
Water was also a big deal to little Dean because when the firemen turned up they had attacked the house with water. It hadn't saved his Mother, but it had tried.
There had never been the chance for swimming lessons after that; sure he'd helped Sam to paddle in a bathtub and shoved him in the odd lake – but he had never given it the time he'd hoped to. He was good at letting Sam down like that.
In fact he'd let Sam down so much that the boy was leaving for California. Choosing the water over Dean.
And that wasn't fair, because Dean didn't think you could separate the three of them – Dean, Sam and the Water. He couldn't go near water without thinking about Sam. About how those pushes into lakes had turned into pushes into rainstorms and pushes into shower cubicles and the push of lips on lips and skin on skin and….
And Dean knew he should never have slept with his brother because now water turned him on, and water made him cry, and his desperation for Sam had morphed into a full on love affair with water.
