Chapter Eight

Lina knocked on the door to the Argent house and forced a smile, though it looked believable, when Kate opened the door. When the woman's eyes ran over her, she immediately regretted wearing her dark jean shorts and gray baggy crop top that said 'GEEK' (the only reason she was wearing the outfit was because it was really warm today). Lina waved at the blonde, inwardly imagining herself throwing daggers and shooting sparks at the woman's head.

"Hey, Kate. Is Allison home?"

Kate nodded, stepping aside to let her in. "She's in her room. It's great that you're here, actually. She's been really down since the break-up."

The brunette walked inside, glancing around before turning to the other female. "That's why I'm here, honestly. I have the perfect solution."

Kate arched an eyebrow, motioning her to continue.

"When I broke up with my last ex, Carly, my brother took me to the shooting range. Then we went home and watched horror movies." she explained.

The blonde smirked. "I was wondering if I'd be able to see you shoot. You don't mind if I tag along, do you?"

Yes, I do. "Not at all. The more the merrier, right?"

Kate laughed. "I'll go get Allison."

Lina nodded, then grabbed her wrist when she started to walk away. "Tell her to grab her bow and some arrows, too." she responded at the woman's questioning look.

Five minutes later, Allison, Kate, and Lina were in the SUV with Kate driving. Lina gave her directions to the old, abandoned shooting range, which was a half mile away from the Preserve. Kate parked beside the building and the three of them climbed out of the vehicle, Kate opening the trunk. Lina's eyes widened in surprise when the woman pulled out a small duffel bag that she just knew was filled with weapons. Shaking her head, she led them into the building, turning the lights on. Setting up the targets, which were dummies that looked like humans, she watched from the corner of her eye as Kate got the guns out and Allison rested her bow and quiver against the wall. Heading over to them, she grinned at Allison.

"So, you want to try and shoot a gun first or should I demonstrate?"

Allison laughed and grabbed the Glock19, handing it to the other brunette. "Show me how well you can shoot, Lina."

Lina nodded and took the gun, turning and aiming and the first dummy she saw, not hesitating before letting loose six bullets. Two hit the dummy in the forehead, one in the heart, one in the stomach, and one in each shoulder, just like she wanted. She sent a smirk to Allison, who whistled.

"Impressive."

"Which eye do you close when you shoot?" Kate suddenly asked.

Lina glanced at her. "Neither."

Kate smirked. "I think I like you, Lina."

Lina pouted before saying teasingly, "Aw, you didn't like me before?" Immediately after she said that, she mentally smacked herself. 'Stop bantering with the enemy like that, Lina! That was almost flirting! What the hell is wrong with you?' she scolded herself.

Kate laughed, but before she was able to say anything, Allison stepped forward and held out her bow to Lina.

"You good with a gun, lets see how good you are with a bow." she taunted teasingly.

Lina took the bow and strung up the arrow Allison handed her. Taking aim, she let it loose. It ended up a few inches below the heart, which is where she had been aiming.

"Close. That was actually really good, for your first time shooting an arrow. But your stance is a bit off." Allison walked up to her and fixed her stance, her hands lingering a second to long on her hips. "Try now."

Lina did so. She missed again, but this arrow was closer to her target. Stringing up another arrow, she almost jumped when Allison placed her hands on hers, their bodies touching with how close the other brunette was.

"Like this," the Argent murmured, manipulating Lina's arms and hold so that she was holding the bow correctly and pulling the arrow back enough. "Now let it go." They both did so.

The arrow hit it's target.

When Lina glanced at Kate, she saw that the woman's eyes were narrowed darkly on Allison.

Lina spent the night at Allison's, the two staying up with Kate, watching horror movies while eating Rocky Road and Moose Tracks ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate fudge syrup. At one moment, Lina had reached over and smeared whip-cream on Allison's cheek, which led to a minor food fight, pillow fights, and tickle attacks. The next morning, the mage borrowed a black, pleated, short sleeve, casual dress and a tan drop pocket cardigan from Allison. Kate had done her hair, curling it before pinning it half up (Lina had to stop herself from flinching multiple times as the blonde did her hair). Chris drove them to school, pulling to a stop in front of it, though when they tried to leave, they found the doors were locked. Both teens leaned forward to poke their heads in between the front seats to frown at Chris.

"Dad, if you're going to insist on driving us to school, you at least have to let us out of the car." Allison told her dad dryly, sighing.

"I think he's just feeling a bit protective after what happened. My dad almost didn't let me come over, yesterday." Lina stated, giving Chris an understanding look. He smiled at her.

"But if he wasn't going to let us out, what was the point of driving us here?" Allison questioned.

Chris let out a sigh and turned to his younger sister. "Kate, what's your opinion on home schooling?"

Kate looked thoughtful for a moment. "Well, you know I'm more of a learning-by-doing kind of girl."

"What's your opinion on overprotective dads who keep ruining their daughters' lives?" Allison asked her aunt, sharing a long look with her.

Kate grinned at the two teens before leaning over her brother and clicking the unlock button.

"Thank you." Allison whispered loudly to Kate before grabbing her bag.

"Your welcome." Kate whispered back.

Allison climbed out first and Lina moved to follow, turning to Chris once her feet touched the ground.

"Thanks for the ride, Mr. Argent. Oh, and you don't have to worry about Ally. If anyone bothers her, I'll kick their ass."

He laughed and told her, "No problem, Lina. And you can call me Chris, you know."

She nodded and grinned at him, linking her arm with Allison's as she waved goodbye. Allison dragged her away, shooting her a smirk.

"My own knight in shining armor, are you?"

"Why of course, though that makes you my damsel in distress."

She snorted. "I'm hardly a damsel in distress."

Lina couldn't help but agree.

"They brought in the state detectives." was the first thing Lina heard when she walked up to her brother and Scott.

"You told dad to be careful, right?" Lina asked, making her brother jump and whirl around.

"Jesus! I swear to god, Lina, if you keep scaring me like that, I'm gonna die an early death." He breathed out, hand over his heart. "And of course I did." he said as they entered chemistry, Lina taking her seat behind him.

Scott went to talk to Allison, only to be stopped by Harris, who told him to take a seat. Scott, with a kicked-puppy and dejected look, took his seat in front of Stiles.

"You have forty-five minutes to complete the test," Harris informed them. "Twenty-five percent of your grade can be earned right now by simply writing your name on the cover of the blue book." Lina giggled when Stiles when her brother quickly jotted down his name. "However, as it so happens every year, one of you will inexplicably fail to put your name on the cover, and I'll be left yet again questioning my decision to ever become a teacher. So, lets get the disappointment over with. Begin."

Lina write her name down and flipped her booklet open, reading the questions and answering them with rapid succession. Those two days at home paid off, as she spent a few hours studying. Then Scott shot up and ran out of the room, closely followed by Stiles. Lina clenched her jaw before letting out a sigh before heading after them, though she apologized to Harris first. She may hate Scott at the moment for what he did to Derek, but he was still her brother from another mother. She joined her brother in the hallway as he was calling Scott, following the sound of Scott's ringing phone, which led them to the locker room. There was a shower running, so they entered cautiously, making it towards the running water. Scott was standing under the shower with his shirt off and the twins were relieved to see he hadn't wolfed out. The teen wolf turned to them, looking ill.

"I can't." he choked out.

"Are you changing?" Stiles demanded, alarmed.

"No, I can't breathe." he gasped.

Stiles dug through Scott's backpack until he found the inhaler. "Try this."

Scott gave him a look of disbelief.

"Use it, Scott." Lina demanded.

Scott took the inhaler and breathed in. When his breathing went to normal, he sent them another look of disbelief. "I was having an asthma attack?" he asked in bewilderment.

"No," Stiles shook his head. "You were having a panic attack. But thinking you were having an asthma attack actually stopped the panic attack. Irony."

Scott looked between them, "How did you know to do that?"

"Well, Lina and I used to get them after our mom died and the Hale fire," Stiles admitted. "Not fun, huh?"

"I- I looked at her and it was like someone hit me in the ribs with a hammer."

"That's heartbreak. I've been though it a couple times." Lina spoke up. "It sucks."

"I can't stop thinking about her," the werewolf groaned.

"Well, you could think about this: her dad's a werewolf hunter and your a werewolf, so it was bound to be an issue." Stiles said, chuckling.

Lina elbowed him, "Not helping,"

He cleared his throat. "Right. Dude, I mean, yeah, you got dumped. It's supposed to suck."

"No," Scott shook his head. "That's not it. It was like I could feel everything in the room... everyone else's emotions..."

"We'll lock you up in your room late, just like we planned. That way, the alpha- your boss- can't get to you either."

"I think we need to do a lot more than lock me in my room." Scott admitted.

Lina furrowed her eyebrows. "Why? Because hunters might get you if you get out?"

"No," Scott shook his head. "Because if I get out... I think I might kill someone."

/*

Stiles and Lina headed up to Scott's room after saying goodbye to Melissa, turning on the light to find Scott sitting in his chair by the window.

"Dude, you scared the hell out of me." Stiles jumped, making Lina roll her eyes.

"I came in from the window." Scott told him.

He glared at Stiles when the fire mage opened the duffel bag to show him the chains he bought. "I'm fine. I'm just going to lock the door and go to sleep."

"Dude, you have this serial killer look in your eyes that's really starting to freak me out. And stop looking at Lina like that!" Stiles scowled at the hungry look his best friend was giving his sister, who moved slightly behind him. "Take a look in the bag."

Scott picked up a fist full of chains. "You think I'm going to let you put these on? Chain me up like a dog?"

"Actually, no," Stiles replied. He dived at Scott and handcuffed his wrist to the radiator. "I'm protecting you from yourself and punishing you for making out with Lydia."

"Which really was a dick move, Scott." Lina spoke up.

The lightning mage tried, and succeeded for the most part, not to laugh when her brother poured some water into a dog bowl for Scott, who chucked it at him.

"I'm gonna kill you!"

Lina listened as Stiles yelled at him for kissing Lydia, the only girl he's ever wanted (she's sure Stiles will get over the strawberry blonde soon enough now that Peter's awake) and how he's been telling himself that it's all just because of the full moon and Scott will stop being a dumbass once it's over. But then Scott goaded him further by telling him that Lydia kissed him, Stiles leaving the room as Scott described how Lydia had her hands all over him and would have done anything he wanted, which Lina responded to by punching him in the face, a dark glare on her face.

"Control yourself, Scott, because you're really starting to piss me off. There was absolutely no need for that. Stiles is just trying to help."

He laughed at her. "He can't help me, but maybe you can." he leered at her.

Stiles burst into the room and dragged his sister out just as she shot an electrical shock at the werewolf, her eyes furious.

"Let me kill him, Stiles!" she hissed to her brother, scowling.

"Calm down and just stay out here with me, kay?"

She huffed. "... I seriously feel kind of violated right now." she ground out.

Stiles flinched. "And I'll be getting him for that later."

Scott began struggling against the handcuffs, begging the twins to let him out. "It's the full moon, I swear. You know I wouldn't do any of this on purpose." His expression shifts, like he knew that was the best play he had, so he kept going, admitting that Allison broke up with him and he felt completely hopeless.

"We can't let out Scott, you know that." Stiles called to him.

As the light from the full moon hits Scott, he shifted and started screaming.

Stiles and Lina sit in the hallway, listening to their best friends screams and almost cried. But then, all of a sudden, the screaming stops. Stiles goes in to check on him to find the handcuffs broken open. Lina entered when he cursed.

"Wha- oh fuck. This cannot be happening right now." she groaned.

Scott was gone and it was a full moon. Someone was going to die, the twins just knew it.
