Chapter Ten
Stiles drove as fast as he could to the school, he and Lina climbing out of Jeep quickly and rushing to the locker room, where they knew Scott would be. Fortunately, everyone but Scott, who was sitting on one of the benches in nothing but a towel, was gone.
"Dude!" Stiles cried, almost running right into the doorframe. "We have a huge problem."
"Trust me, I know." Scott said solemnly.
The twins told their best friend about tracking down the text sent to Allison, finding out about his mom, and then driving to the hospital, and Scott told them his story about Peter and Derek visiting him just a few minutes before they showed up. That made the twins share a look. Derek was up to something...
"Wait, Dere's working with Peter?" Lina repeated.
"That's what I just said." Scott threw her an irritated look, making her huff.
"Don't be a jerk, Scott."
"So, what do we do now?" Stiles asked before a fight could break out.
"Well, the Argents suspect Jackson's the second Beta, so we have to keep an eye on him," Scott sighed, standing up and walking to his locker.
Lina turned so he could get dressed. "So, we're gonna go stalk Jacks?"
"That sounds illegal," Stiles retored. "No, we'll just be watching him."
"That didn't sound any less creepy, Sti." Lina pointed out. "And that's still stalking. Anyway, I'll go wait in the jeep." she said, leaving the locker room and heading outside.
A few minutes after she got in the jeep, the boys walked out of the school and climbed into the vehicle themselves. The drive was silent, which was unusal since Lina and Stiles were normaly pretty talkitive. Stiles dropped Scott off before heading home.
/*
That morning, Scott called the twins, saying that they needed to watch Jackson the Argents were watching him, so they drove to his house to pick him up. After picking the teen wolf up, they found Jackson at the back of a warehouse driving as fast as he could in his Porsche. He suddenly stopped moving and got out of his car and Chris pulled up to talk to the jock.
"Go," Scott said. "Go, Stiles."
Stiles pulled up to Jackson's car and waved.
"Is everything okay?" Scott asked.
"Your friend here is having car trouble; we're just taking a look." Chris was the one to answer.
Lina poked her head out of the window. "Hey, Chris!" she waved with a smile.
Chris smiled back. "Hello, Lina."
Scott shot Lina a mild glare before turning back to Jackson. "There's a shop down the streeet, I'm sure they have a tow truck." he said.
"Yeah," Stiles spoke up. "Do you want a ride?"
"Come on, Jacks." Lina spoke up, smirking. "You're way to pretty to be out here by yourself." she sent a wink to Chris, who was clearly amused.
Scott got out of the jeep and Jackson headed toward it.
"Hey, boys," Chris called, getting their attention as he started the engine. "I told you I knew a few things about cars." he started to walk off, but stopped when Lina called his name. "Yea, Lina?"
"Do you mind if I come over this weekend?"
"Only if you promise to bring more cupcakes." he grinned at her.
She laughed. "You got it."
He nodded and got in his car, driving away. The moment he was gone, Stiles whirled on his sister.
"What the hell was that?! You know I don't like it when you go over there!" he exclaimed, waving his arms as he spoke.
"I know, but someone needs to watch them, or at least Kate, and Allison is one of my friends. Not to mention, Chris is kind of cool." Lina defended herself.
"That's another thing! Since when are you and Chris Argent on a first name basis?!"
"Um, since the last time I slept over."
"Dude, my jeep!" Stiles got monentarily distracted when Scott hit the jeep in anger.
"I can literally hear your heartbeat from a mile away. Now he thinks something's wrong and now I have to keep an eye on you so he doesn't try to kill you, too." Scott told Jackson and was about to hit the jeep again, but Stiles and Lina grabbed him.
"Lets stay away from the jeep."
"This is your problem, not mine okay, I didn't say anything which means that you're the one that's going to get killed. This is your fault." Jackson pushed Scott into the jeep and they began pushing each other.
Lina shoved them apart, a glare on her face. "That's enough."
"When they come after you I won't be able to protect you! Scott turned to the twins. "I won't be able to protect anyone."
"Why are you looking at us?" Stiles asked.
"Now you have to do it." Jackson said. "Just give me what I want and I will be fine protecting myself."
"No, you won't." Lina started. "All it does is make things worse, like hunters burning down your house with your entire family in it because you're a werewolf and-"
"- and being dragged to the dark side by your murdering psycho werewolf uncle." Stiles finished.
"And when you can hear your girlfriend telling people she doesn't trust you anymore right before she breaks up with you. It ruins your life."
"It ruined your life," Jackson turned to the twins. "And whoever the hell you two are talking about." He turned back to Scott. "You had all the power in the world and you didn't know what to do with it. You know what it's actually like? It's like you turn sixteen and someone gives you a Porsche when they should have started you out with a nice little Honda. Me? I drive a Porsche." Jackson got in his car and drove away, Lina scowling at the car until it was out of sight.
After dropping Scott off at the Preserve so he could talk to Allison, the twins headed home. The drive started off in silence until Stiles spoke up.
"How close are you to Kate?"
She turned to him and chuckled nervously. "Um, about Kate, there's something I should probably tell you," she trailed off.
Stiles arched an eyebrow at her, an impatient look on his face.
She coughed. "I think she likes me, as in likes me, likes me."
Stiles stomped on the brakes, head snapping around to stare at her sharply. "Care to repeat that, please?" he demanded, tone steely.
She shifted. "She gives me these looks, sometimes, and when Allison got really close when she was teaching how to use a bow, Kate actually glared at her."
"Why the fuck didn't you tell me this before?"
"I didn't want you to get mad and do something stupid." she said, eyeing his hands, which were covered in flames at the moment.
"I'm gonna kill that bitch. Slowly and painfully." Stiles hissed before taking in a deep breath. "She hasn't made a move, has she? Like, tried to kiss you or something?"
"No, she hasn't."
Stiles nodded, relaxing a bit as the flames went away and he started to drive again. "I don't want you going over there again, at least not while she's still alive."
"Wha- but Stiles!"
"Don't you dare disagree with me on this, Marcelina."
Lina winced, both at her full name and her brother's tone. "Fine." she sighed in defeat.
/*
Lina sighed as she headed to lunch. Everyone was freaking out about the winter formal, which she didn't have a dress or a date for even though it was tomorrow. Running a hand through her hair, she brightened as an idea hit her. She knew who could be her date! Striding into the cafeteria, she made a beeline for Erica, who was sitting with Isaac Lahey. Lina was friends with Isaac, though they didn't talk much. Putting her hand in her bag, she subtly conjured a rose and pulled it out, hiding it behind her back before tapping Erica on the shoulder with her free hand. Erica turned, blinking up at her.
"Lina?"
"Do you have a date for the dance?" Lina cut straight to the point.
Erica's shoulders slumped. "No."
Lina revealed the rose and smiled at her. "Then would you, Erica Reyes, give me the honor of being my date?"
Erica brightened, accepting the rose and her invitation. "I'd love too!" she exclaimed, standing up to hug her.
"Excellent. I'll pick you up at seven, kay?"
Erica nodded, sitting back down.
Lina turned to Isaac and smiled, leaning down to kiss his cheek, making him jerk in surprise. "Hey, Isaac. Long time to see. You going to the formal?"
He nodded.
"Save me a dance, then." she told him with a wink before walking away and heading for her brother and Scott's table, only to have Lydia walk up to her and stop her. "What's up, Lyds?"
"You're going to the dance, right?"
"Yeah, I am. Why?"
"You wanna go dress shopping with Allison and I after school?"
Lina smiled. "I'd love too."
/*
After school, Lydia, Allison, and Lina went to the mall to find their dresses, Scott and Stiles following them.
"So, what's wrong?" Lina asked Allison as the trio walked trough the mall.
"Nothing's wrong. I just- I have a lot on my mind." Allison answered as they went up the escalator.
"You could smile, at least. Ever heard of the saying, 'Never frown. Someone could be falling in love with your smile'?. Smile, Allison. I'm buying you a dress." the strawberry blonde nudged Allison with her elbow playfully.
"Have to admit, as far as apologies go, that's more than I expected."
"Excellent," Lydia gave a satisfied smile.
"But not as much as I'm going to ask."
"What? What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means you're going to cancel on whatever dumb, roided-up jock you said yes to and you're going with someone else," Allison said as they reached the next floor.
Lydia eyed her curiously. "Who?"
Allison grinned as she turned her head, saying with mischief in her voice, "Him."
Lina followed her line of sight to see her brother standing at a display, looking at a new perfume. He accidentily sprayed it in his face and sneezed, making Lina snicker and Lydia whimper.
"Oh," Allison groaned compassionately. "Don't frown, Lydia. Someone could be falling in love with your smile."
Lydia threw Allison a scathing look, but the brunette turned to Lina and winked. Heading into Macy's, the girls began looking for dresses. Lina occasionally picked one out, draping them over her arm to try them on later. She came across Allison a few moments later to see her holding a monstrosity of a dres.
"That is hideous." she spoke up, making Allison jump.
"That's not your color." Lina heard a familiar voice say from behind them. Allison turned to Peter with wide, curious eyes and Peter continued. "Sorry if that was a bit intrusive, but- considering your skin tone, I'd go lighter."
"Because I'm pale?" Allison asked him with a small smile.
"Fair. I mean, you can't call skin like yours pale. Not skin that perfect." Peter told her with a chuckle.
"He's got a point." Lina piped up, getting a smile from the man.
"Okay." the brunette said with a laugh as she hung the ugly dress back up.
"Trust me, I have a unique perspective on the subject." Peter uttered to her before holding out a short, silver cocktail dress to her. "Do you mind?" he asked her and, when she shook her head, he held the dress against her hand to match the skin tone with the color of the fabric. "See? Much better."
"Go try it on, Ally." Lina told her.
She nodded, smiling shyly at Peter before skipping in the direction of the changing rooms.
"Me next!" Lina exclaimed, handing Peter the three dresses she was having a hard time choosing from. "Which one do you think I should get?"
The first dress was a dark, sleeveless, rhinestone, one-shoulder dress, the next was a Trixxi Juniors' Sequin High-Low Dress, and the last was a red and black cocktail dress. Peter studyed them all for a moment before nodding at the red and black one and handing it to Lina.
"This is the one." he told her.
She beamed at him, grinning. "Thanks, Pete. I take it I'll see you tomorrow?"
His smirk was answer enough.
/*
Lina studied herself in the mirror after doing the finishing touches of her makeup. Her hair was curled and pinned half up, she had the Smokey eyed look for eyeshadow, and a nice, deep red color of lipstick on her lips. Floral lace tights hugged her legs and she wore Alberta Ferretti Booties on her feet. Slipping on a black velvet choker/ necklace with a red paua shell heart pendant, she headed downstairs, where she found her dad helping Stiles with his tie.
"So, how do I look?" she asked them, twirling when they turned to her.
Their eyes widened and Stiles' jaw dropped.
"Holy shit, Li," Stiles breathed. "You look beautiful."
"He's right, Li." their dad spoke up, kissing her forehead.
Lina beamed at him. "Thanks. Now, lets go, Stiles. We have to go pick up Lydia and Erica." she told her brother, grabbing his arm and waving to their dad before dragging Stiles out of the house.
They picked Erica up first, since her house was closer. The blonde was dressed in a pretty white and light pink, knee length dress, her hair done up in a french twist and her makeup light. Lina smiled at the blonde, who's breath caught once she fully saw the mage.
"Wow, Li, your stunning." Erica breathed out.
The brunette grinned. "You are, too, E." she told the other female.
The blonde blushed. "Th- thanks."
After picking up Lydia, they headed straight to the school. The building had star lights all over it and Lina linked her arm through Erica's as she led her inside. The band was preforming a fast paced song, so Lina pulled the blonde on to the dance floor, the two getting really into the dancing. Lina spotted Isaac a few seconds after the second song started and quickly moved, grabbing him and pulling him into the crowd to dance with her and Erica. He protested for a moment before giving in, Lina grinning in triumph all the while.
Suddenly hearing a ruckus, the trio turned to see Coach Finstock standing in the middle of the dance floor, yelling at Scott, who had his arms around Danny.
"What the hell are you do- What the hell are you doing?" Coach asked loudly.
"Yes, Coach?" Scott asked him as everyone stopped and stared at the coomotion, even the band.
Okay, ho- ho- ho- ha ha. Hold on, you- I was just saying that he's not supposed to- I mean I wasn't saying that he shouldn't- You guys don't think- You don't- I- I was- Just dance, everybody. Just dance! Dance! It's a party! Coach exclaimed nervously when everone stared at him as if he was in the wrong for trying to stop two guys from dancing.
Lina snickered. "Oh my god, that was hilarious. Scott totally just got away with sneaking into the dance."
Isaac and Erica laughed.
Lina frowned when she saw her brother run out of the room and turned to her partners. "I think something's wrong. If I'm not back soon, don't panic, kay?" she told them, kissing both their cheeks before running after her brother, finally spotting him heading for the lacrosse field. "Stiles!"
He halted and whirled around. "Lina! I think Lydia's in trouble!" he told her as she caught up to him before taking off again, Lina right behind him.
When they reached the lacrosse field, they saw Peter heading straight for Lydia.
"Lydia!" Stiles yelled. "Run!"
But Peter had already bitten her and she fell to the ground, unconcsious with her dress dirty from mud and blood. Stiles and Lina dropped the worried masks and grinned at Peter, who smirked at them, his eyes running of Stiles.
"Hello, Stiles." he purred, making the fire mage shiver.
Lina chuckled. "Just fucking kiss already!"
"Mmm, I'd love to, but I'm afriad this isn't the time or place." Peter murmured, making Stiles flush. "We need to find Derek."
Lina blinked. "What do you mean? Was he kidnapped or something?"
"Yes, Kate has him."
Stiles growled. "That bitch is going to die tonight."
"Yes, yes she is."
The smile on Peter's face was anything but pleasant.
The link to see Lina's dress is on my profile.
