Emily woke to sunlight streaming in the window and the sweet smell of maple syrup wafting through the air. Turning to her side, she glanced at the clock on the bedside table. It was nine o'clock in the morning; she couldn't remember the last time she'd slept so late.
She turned to her other side, sensing that the blonde was no longer beside her, and found her suspicion to be correct.
A strange feeling rose inside her upon realizing that JJ was no longer there… she felt empty and alone in a way she'd never experienced before, and the emptiness scared her.
Turning to face the door, Emily's mind filled with memories from the night before. Her stomach lept as she felt the ghost of JJ snuggling deep into her form. She could smell her sweet breath and feel her hot tears; the memory caught in her chest as she tried calming her racing heart, but it was no use.
She was falling for the girl, falling fast, and that was the very last thing JJ needed right now.
But how could Emily hide her feelings for the woman when they were so unbelievably strong?
As she pondered this agonizing question, a slight creaking sound brought her back to the present. JJ had opened the bedroom door and was peaking inside, her beautiful blonde hair swept to the side. Her eyes fell on the brunette and her face slowly broke into that perfect smile, reminding Emily how impossible hiding her feelings would be.
"Good morning," JJ said shyly.
"Hey JJ," she replied, propping herself up. "How did you sleep?"
JJ stepped lightly into the room, slowly walking towards the bed. Once she'd reached her, she moved Emily's legs and sat by her feet, resting her hand on the older woman's leg. She looked into Emily's eyes with her deep blue ones, and the brunette swore those eyes had magical powers.
"I slept better than I have in months Em," she smiled.
Emily let out a relieved breath, thankful that her friend hadn't suffered the effects of more nightmares after the first round.
"I made breakfast," the blonde continued brightly.
"How long have you been awake?" Emily asked, surprised.
"Oh, barely half an hour," she replied with a wave of her hand. "You looked too peaceful to wake up… especially after everything last night…" JJ paused, looking embarrassed.
"Don't even start Jennifer," the brunette said sternly, and when their eyes met she gave the blonde a reassuring smile.
JJ smiled back and stood, reaching her hand out for Emily to take.
"Come on," she beckoned, "let's eat."
Emily grabbed her hand happily, swearing she felt a small spark as they touched.
Breakfast went by without a hitch, both women surprised by the normalcy of their conversation after the darkness from the night before.
But as they cleared their plates, Emily found the endless questions that were weighing on her mind growing heavier and heavier. With the dishwasher loaded, she resigned herself to the burning desire for answers. Turning towards the blonde, she timidly asked, "JJ, could we talk?"
The blonde took a deep breath, having expected the question after her confessions from the night before.
"Yes, of course," she said, biting back the 'let's get this over with' and instead suggesting,"let's go to the living room," gesturing towards the next room.
The women entered the large beige room and settled on the over-sized couch, getting comfortable as they prepared to share another deep conversation. Both women remained in their pajamas, hair pulled back to mask the unkempt fly-away strands. Even still, Emily was unsure if she'd ever seen a more beautiful person than Jennifer Jareau in that moment, dressed up or not.
JJ looked at the brunette, wondering why the brown eyes searched her face the way they did.
Emily gazed back into the blue eyes, unsure where to start. Feeling the danger of her continued silence, she took a breath and opened her mouth:
"I'm so thankful for last night JJ," she began, speaking with genuine honesty. "Like, so thankful. You have no idea. So please, please don't convince yourself that it was a mistake. Please JJ."
The blonde looked at her and smiled, no longer feeling even a hint of regret for reaching out to the stunning agent.
"I won't," she said softly, and her words surrounded Emily, filling her with joy.
"Good," she replied with a smile. "But the thing is," she continued quietly, "as happy as I am… I also have a lot of questions."
"Which makes total sense," JJ responded.
"Would it be okay if we talked about some of the details?" she asked shyly.
"Absolutely Em, I want you to know my story."
Those familiar butterflies returned to Emily's stomach as JJ looked into her eyes, the intimacy of her words hanging in the air between them.
"Okay," Emily said, hesitating. "Could we … could we talk about the pregnancy first?"
JJ let out a sigh, although she had a slight smile on her face.
"I figured that's where we'd start," she laughed, then fell silent as she pondered the best way to tell the story.
"A few months before Strauss removed me from the team and created the backstop, I met a guy at that little coffee shop by work."
Emily smiled, trying to cover up the force rising up from her stomach… the force that felt oddly like jealousy.
"You love that place," she teased.
"I know," JJ laughed. "So I met this guy. He was an EMT and a part-time medical student. His name was Thomas. And I don't know Emily… things like that never happen to me, but he was almost perfect. It all seemed so perfect. Our lives fit together because of our busy schedules, and I loved that he wanted to help people. He had such a huge heart."
The jealousy was beginning to feel like acid in her chest, and Emily scolded herself, trying to focus on the story rather than the fact that JJ had fallen in love with someone. Surely before the blonde had started her story Emily had understood the fact that getting pregnant generally required having sex with a man… so why was she so hurt?
"He sounds wonderful JJ," she managed.
"He was," the blonde continued, getting lost in her memories.
"Anyways… we were always really… careful, ya know?" JJ swallowed, beginning to feel slightly embarrassed by the intimate details.
Emily knew what she meant, but wished for a moment that she didn't.
"Ya?" she prodded, knowing she needed to know the whole story for the sake of her friend.
"Well, after I found out that I had to leave the team, it was… it was like a part of me got ripped away, you know? I mean… I'm sure you know," JJ said quickly, her cheeks turning pink from the knowledge that Emily knew EXACTLY what it was like to be ripped away from the team.
"I guess I just didn't handle it well. I was so upset Em… so upset… and I had a lot to drink that night. So I…I called Thomas to come over. I felt so vulnerable and wanted someone to tell me that everything was going to be okay."
The small girl was growing more uneasy by the moment, finding it harder and harder to tell the brunette about her romantic encounters with Thomas.
She found this odd; she'd never had problems sharing her love life with girlfriends in the past, but for some reason, she felt like telling Emily the intimate details was a betrayal of sorts. She couldn't help but feel like she was hurting the woman.
The feelings were strange and unwarranted; surely they must be in her head. Those deep brown eyes were messing with her mind… she had to get a grip, so she took a deep breath and pushed on.
"Anyways, long story short, we didn't make the best choices that night. We had always been so careful, but we didn't have any sort of protection and we didn't care. I never worried about it after that night… mostly because I couldn't remember what we'd done, in all honesty."
Emily found anger beginning to rise, rapidly replacing the jealousy. She couldn't believe that this man had taken advantage of JJ in that way, and every part of her wanted to find the man and let him have it.
"JJ," she said, trying to control her tone, "I'm not sure if I'm crazy about the fact that he slept with you when you were in such a vulnerable place."
JJ thought for a moment, never having considered this before.
"We had been sleeping together for months, ya know?" she finally answered. "There had been several times when we got a bit tipsy and had sex. That's just part of being in a trusting relationship I think, because those things inevitably will happen. Plus, that night, I made him drink with me. He tried getting me to stop, but I told him I didn't want to drink alone. I basically begged him. I promise you he didn't take advantage of me Emily. If anything, it was the other way around."
The brunette took a few deep breaths, trying to steady her emotions. The predominant thought in her mind was that she could've stopped the girl from drinking that night. Instead of joining her in the self-destructive behavior, she would have held her close and made it better.
"Sorry," Emily said, mustering a smile. "I tend to get a bit protective."
"I like that," JJ said softly, creating warm desire in the brunette.
"I promise you he never hurt me Em," she continued. "He really was a great guy. But with the reassignment and all the time apart…the secrets and lies… it just wasn't working."
"I'm sorry JJ," Emily said, truly feeling sorry for her loss.
"It's okay," the blonde said. "Honestly, I had known for a while that we were heading in different directions. We didn't belong together. I just never really felt that indescribable comfort with him, that feeling of home, you know what I mean?" the small agent asked. She recognized the look of confusion in Emily's eyes and, without thinking, decided to use an example: "It's just like the feeling I get when…"
The blonde stopped short, her mind waking up in time to prevent her from sharing her secret. Her heart began beating fast as she realized how close she'd come to saying, 'the feeling I get when you hold me,' to the gorgeous brunette. The sheer magnitude of those words scared her as she realized they held such significant truth.
It was undeniable: Emily felt like home.
Being wrapped in her arms gave JJ a sense of belonging in the world, and the feeling was addictive.
Emily gave her the feeling that had always been missing with Thomas – or with anyone else for that matter; the feeling of safety, of home.
She wasn't sure what that meant or what she should do about it, but she was sure that she wasn't ready to admit her feelings to her friend.
Emily had noticed the abrupt stop and looked at JJ, waiting for her to finish her thought.
"The feeling you get when what, Jay?" she asked.
The pink was rapidly filling the small woman's cheeks as she searched for an alternate answer to Emily's question.
"The feeling I get when I'm here, at home," JJ lied.
"Ah," Emily said, slightly disappointed. "I know what you mean."
"I'm glad I'm not crazy," the blonde said, letting out a mock sigh of relief.
A still silence settled between the women as JJ's realization of her feelings weighed heavily on her mind.
Emily simply stared at the woman beside her, taking in the perfection of her features, wishing she could climb into her mind and experience her every thought.
A smile began making its way across Emily's face at the continued silence of her friend. JJ's brow was furrowed, lost in her own world, and the brunette couldn't help but smile at how cute the woman was.
She could stare at JJ all day long and still be unsatisfied, but the agent knew her admiration of the blonde would quickly lead to those warm feelings of desire.
"JJ?" she finally asked, gently pulling the small woman back to earth.
"Oh, I'm sorry," JJ laughed, using her best-learned techniques to push her thoughts away.
"Anyways," she continued, hoping to cover her near- confession from before, "I knew it was over with Thomas. We weren't right together, and he was definitely starting to see it. The more he realized that I couldn't be completely honest with him, the more I felt us growing apart. And sure enough, the day I arrived in Afghanistan I received a call and we broke up."
"Over the phone?!" Emily exploded, unable to hold back her disgust as JJ's words soaked in. "He couldn't have waited until you got back and done it in person?"
JJ looked at her and smiled, touched by the protectiveness her friend felt for her.
"He didn't really have many options Em," she said gently. "He had no idea when he would see me again and he really wanted to move on."
Emily took another deep breath to calm herself. She needed to gain control of her emotions.
"That makes sense," she said, defeated.
JJ let out a small laugh before continuing.
"Pregnancy wasn't on my radar at all. Splitting time between DC and Afghanistan was really wearing on me, and I figured that's why I started feeling so gross. So I went to the medical tent on-base one day…"
The blonde paused, wrapped up in the memory of that day. She was surprised to feel tears beginning to rise, not having expected the reaction after all this time.
"So anyways," she cleared her throat, trying to move past the moment, "they told me I was pregnant. And I just…I literally had no idea what to do. It took me forever to even remember that night with Thomas, but I knew that had to be when it happened. It was the only thing that made any sense."
Emily shifted her weight to scoot closer to JJ, reaching out and taking her small hand. She had sensed the emotion starting in the girl's voice, and she couldn't help herself… she had to comfort her.
JJ looked down and smiled.
"I didn't really have time to process the news though," she continued.
Emily looked at her, puzzled.
"Why not?" she asked.
"Well… you," JJ answered, then quickly proceeded at the look on Emily's face, "you decided to go all rogue and fight the bad guys by yourself," she teased.
A look of understanding spread across Emily's face as the timeline came together in her mind.
"Wait," she said, "does that mean you were pregnant when we were on the jet to Paris?"
JJ smiled at her quick-witted friend and nodded her head.
"I was. And I thought about telling you… I really did… but after everything that had happened… your time recovering in the hospital, being ripped away from the team, having to fake your own death, having absolutely no contact with anyone you knew, completely changing your whole life, knowing Doyle had gotten away… I just figured you had enough on your plate already." The blonde smiled at Emily with pain in her eyes, feeling deep sadness for all her friend had been through. The darker agent recognized the look of empathy in JJ's eyes, and she loved the girl for it.
"I was fine JJ," she said softly. "You could have told me."
"I know that," JJ said. "I know. There was just so much going on. And I… I was scared"
There was a pause as Emily became lost in the memories of those few terrible days.
JJ had literally dropped everything to come and help the team locate her, but it wasn't until this moment that Emily realized the true depth of that commitment: the girl had put her friend's life above the life of her unborn child.
Emily had the sudden urge to scold the blonde... to tell her how stupid it was to forget about her own needs and make such huge, dangerous sacrifices on behalf of a friend's life - especially her life! As she was opening her mouth to do so, however, she was suddenly struck by a soul-shattering thought.
Quickly pulling her hand from JJ's, she cried, "Oh my God JJ… oh my God, please tell me you didn't lose the baby because of me?!"
JJ looked at the brunette and saw the tears that had appeared in her deep brown eyes. Confused, her mouth fell open, wondering how in the world Emily could think she'd had anything to do with the miscarriage. Sometimes, as much as she loved the girl, she simply couldn't understand Emily's ability to blame herself for the stupidest things.
"Emily, no! Absolutely not!" JJ shouted, desperately wanting to chase those thoughts from her friend's mind. She leaned forward and grabbed Emily's hand once more.
"I swear Emily; it had absolutely nothing to do with you."
The brunette was refusing to make eye contact, clearly lost in a world where she believed she had ruined JJ's life.
"Look at me Emily," JJ said sternly. "Right now."
The brunette reluctantly looked into those blue eyes, feeling absolutely miserable.
"I lost my baby because of Michael Hastings," JJ said intensely. "It was well after I'd seen you off in Paris. It couldn't possibly have had any less to do with you."
Emily relinquished her hand again, quickly wiping away the small tears that had fallen down her cheeks…unable to accept that her own reckless actions hadn't led to the miscarriage.
"What do you mean it was Hastings?" she asked, prepared to argue against JJ's answer.
"Remember on the jet?" the blonde began, "when you figured out that my reassignment was actually a backstop?" She paused for a moment before continuing, smirking at the cleverness of her friend.
"We talked about some of the problems I was having in Afghanistan, even though you didn't know the entire situation. You gave me the best advice I could have hoped for: you told me to look at it from a profiler's perspective; to consider what our team would do if this was just any other case, and the mole was our unsub. You helped me figure out that the double-agent could only be one of a very small number of people."
The blonde noticed that Emily was beginning to relax now, her focus hung-up on listening intently to the story. She reached out and grabbed her hand before continuing, wanting to feel the warmth of her touch again.
"So, when I got back to Afghanistan, I went straight to the top and asked for permission to interrogate my people at an off-base location."
Emily looked at her friend with wide eyes, taken aback by her badass determination.
"Wow JJ," she said in admiration, "You were determined, weren't you?"
The blonde laughed; always unsure how to handle compliments from this wonderful woman.
"I guess it was just personal for me," she said.
Her words triggered a sudden flash in Emily's mind as the woman recollected the horrible memory of Monteo Cruz speaking the same words… of noticing that JJ was gone and no longer safe … of feeling so desperately scared and sick that she could hardly move.
The brunette swallowed the memory down, trying to bring her focus back to the current story.
"So what happened?" She asked softly.
JJ, who was completely unaware of the darkness that had just taken place in her friend's mind, continued her story.
"The mole… in other words, Hastings and his puppet" she spat, "had planned an attack on the Humvees that were taking our people to the alternate location. We were attacked out of nowhere. My Humvee was hit by a bomb, and I was barely conscious. I managed to fire off a few shots before I passed out. The last thing I saw was Hastings being 'taken' by the terrorist cell."
Emily had drawn her hands to her mouth, imagining the small blonde being attacked with such heavy artillery and thanking God she had lived to tell the tale.
JJ took a few deep breaths, steadying herself as her emotions began rising once more. She knew the next part would be the hardest.
"When I woke up," she began, her voice shaking, "We were back on-base in the medical tent. Cruz was there. And he… he…"
Emily removed her hands from her mouth and grabbed JJ's small hands again, enclosing them with her protective spirit.
Tears began to spill from the small woman's gorgeous blue eyes, and Emily swore she could feel her own heart being ripped from her chest.
"It's okay JJ, we can stop," she said gently.
JJ shook her head, trying to regain her composure.
"He told me that I'd lost the baby in the attack," she said, her body tense.
Emily could feel her friend's broken heart; JJ might not have had much time, but she had obviously loved her child with every ounce of her being.
"I'm so sorry Jennifer," she said softly, unable to find any other words. "So incredibly sorry."
JJ wiped her face on her shoulder – her hands still trapped in the brunette's tight grip - and looked into Emily's brown eyes.
"You see?" she said, "It had absolutely nothing to do with you. I was determined, and honestly, I would do it all over again. I would make the same choices. I know I made the right decision, even though things didn't turn out the way I wanted them to. But I had no way of knowing that would happen. And neither did you. So please, for me Emily, please don't ever blame yourself. That only makes it harder."
The blonde finished her plea and Emily nodded her head, deciding to honor her friend's request instead of making things any harder.
However, Emily silently realized that the young agent never would have made the choices she did were it not for Emily's advice on the jet. Her words had been the direct catalyst of JJ's choices, which in turn had led to the miscarriage. She had played a large part in the grief her beautiful friend was now experiencing, and she hated herself for it.
The brunette buried the heavy feeling deep inside, underneath her other unspoken self-hatred.
"I challenged him…" JJ continued, still trying to convince the brunette of her innocence. "… I pushed his buttons, and it was my choices that led to the accident. I should have taken myself out of the field the moment I found out I was pregnant, but I was too passionate about finding the son of a bitch who wanted to bring us all down. I was relentless. That was my fault."
Emily looked at her friend, anger beginning to claw at her insides.
"No," she nearly shouted, catching the small woman off guard, "It was not your fault JJ. Don't you believe that for one second, do you understand me? It was Hastings… It was Hastings, and he paid for it with his life. And if I had known what he'd done to you when I followed Hotch into that warehouse, I would have made him pay for it with much, much more than just his life."
The fierce anger in Emily's voice sent something that felt like desire ripping through JJ's veins. It was as if the brunette's hatred for the man who'd hurt her aroused the blonde.
But even more intense was the fact that JJ knew, no matter what, that she would always be safe if Emily was around. The way the brunette cared for her - the fact that she was willing to kill anyone who laid a hand on her - made her heart beat fast.
She had the sudden, strange urge to lean forward and kiss the dark woman in front of her, but settled on staring into her deep brown eyes instead, captivated by her beauty.
The room grew silent once more as the women gazed into each other's eyes, desire growing like a tumor between them.
Emily broke the moment first, fearing the strong feelings brought on by JJ's intimate gaze.
"So… does Thomas know?" she asked, finding it hard to speak his name.
"No," the blonde responded, snapping out of her intimate thoughts.
She pondered Emily's question for a moment before asking, "Do you think I should have told him?"
"Well, I guess that depends," Emily said, "why didn't you tell him?"
JJ thought for a while before answering.
"I guess because I knew it wouldn't make any difference. We weren't right for each other, and we had done a good job accepting that fact and moving on. I had planned to tell him when I first found out, before I lost her, obviously. I knew we would make it work…somehow. But I didn't see the point in telling him about the pregnancy after I lost it, especially when he didn't even know it ever existed. Why put that sort of pain on him? I just wanted him to continue moving on… because I think he had a harder time breaking up than I did. I think he would have married me if things had gone differently."
JJ fell silent, leaving Emily to consider what she'd said.
"Her?" the brunette asked quietly.
"What?" JJ answered, unsure what Emily meant by her question.
"You called your baby a 'her.'" She clarified gently. "You said 'before I lost her'"
"Oh," the blonde said, embarrassed by her slip-up. "I guess I didn't even realize," she answered, shrugging it off.
Emily looked at her with sad eyes, a look that urged the woman to offer a better explanation.
JJ sighed, hoping she wouldn't sound stupid. "I know I wasn't pregnant for long but… I don't know… it's stupid… I guess I just felt like it was a girl."
"That's not stupid Jennifer," Emily said softly, and something about the warmth and sincerity of her tone made the blonde's walls come tumbling down.
She wanted to share all of her innermost secrets with the brunette.
Before she could stop herself, JJ was sharing something she had never planned to tell a living soul… and certainly never Emily.
"Knowing that Ian Doyle had you in his grasp was the scariest moment of my life," she said, the words tumbling out of her mouth like a waterfall. "But after we found you and realized everything you'd done for Declan, the sacrifices you had made with such selfless courage… and especially after our talk on the jet to Paris - after everything you'd been through - I decided…" she paused, unsure how to get the words out.
"I decided I was going to… to name her… 'Emily,'" the blonde spoke the name firmly, though barely audible.
Her cheeks began to fill with blood as she realized how stupid she must sound telling the brunette about her unborn namesake, especially when she hadn't even known the gender for certain.
Her embarrassment kept her from meeting Emily's eyes; she focused on her hands as her brain tried fathoming the fact that she'd just told such an intimate secret… a detail she had promised herself she would keep locked inside forever. She couldn't understand why she had told the woman so easily, without any provocation. She didn't quite grasp why Emily's presence made her resolve crumble.
Having been lost in her embarrassment and confusion, the blonde suddenly noticed that the room had remained silent for a long while, and her curiosity got the better of her. She looked up to see what was keeping the brunette silent; afraid she had scared the woman into silence with her unexpected secret.
When she raised her head she found Emily staring at her, mouth slightly open, a silent stream of tears rolling down her porcelain cheeks.
"Emily!" she cried as panic rose in her heart. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to…to upset you or anything like that! I'm so sorry."
Emily placed her hand on JJ's leg, silencing the girl.
"I can't believe that you would think to… that you would want to… that…" Emily's emotions were mounting, keeping her from voicing how she truly felt. And truthfully, no words would suffice.
"I am so honored," she finally got out, although the words seemed sad and decrepit compared to what JJ had just admitted to her.
The blonde looked into Emily's brown eyes as relief swept through her. "You don't know what you mean to me then… if you're surprised that I'd name my child after you…" she said softly.
Emily flung herself forward without thinking, wrapping her arms around her beautiful friend; partially to keep herself from kissing the girl, partially to show her what she meant to her, and partially because she would take any excuse to embrace the gorgeous woman.
The brunette kept JJ in her arms until her tears subsided; wiping them away on the blonde's soft shirt.
When they finally parted, both women were filled to the brim with happiness. Emily let out a nervous laugh, embarrassed by her emotional response to JJ's secret.
Remembering the previous question, Emily picked the conversation back up where they'd left off.
"But I don't think it's bad that you didn't tell Thomas about her," she said. "Your reasoning makes absolute sense. And at this point, what good would it do anyways?"
JJ smiled at her, thankful to have such a phenomenal woman on her side.
"What would I do without you?" she asked before she could stop herself.
Emily blushed, doubting JJ realized what those words meant to her.
"I could ask you the same thing," she responded.
The women got lost in each other's eyes once more, Emily feeling the familiar panic as it began beating in her heart.
This time JJ broke the moment, her thoughts having gotten dangerously close to making her pounce on the woman beside her.
"So… I know you've already done more than I should ever ask of you… but could I ask one more favor?"
Emily let out a frustrated sigh, upset that the woman still considered herself a burden.
"JJ, don't make me tell you again that this is exactly what I want. I'm not doing you a favor at all… you're doing me one. I am so thankful and touched that you're letting me in. I'm your best friend. This is what I've been wanting for months."
"Alright, alright," the blonde smiled. "But seriously, you can say no to this, okay?"
Emily gave her a face that clearly said 'shut up,' so she continued.
"When we get to the office on Monday… would you mind coming with me to Hotch's office?"
"Absolutely Jay. How come?"
"I think… well, I know actually… that I need to see someone."
Emily looked at her, momentarily confused.
"Like a counselor," the blonde clarified.
A smile broke across Emily's face as her pride in the blonde woman swelled to the bursting point. After everything she'd gone through in Afghanistan, and especially after seeing her panic attack last night, Emily knew her friend needed professional help.
It was nothing to be ashamed of; on the contrary, in Emily's eyes it made someone much stronger if they had the courage to reach out and get the help they needed. She had seen, over and over again, that only cowards and people filled with pride refused to turn to professionals for help.
However, Emily also knew that counseling did no good if the person didn't want it. Furthermore, being a profiler, she knew that any one of her team members could get through the FBI's required counseling with flying colors, as JJ had done weeks before.
All of this made the fact that JJ was reaching out that much more impressive. The blonde not only realized she needed help; she was also willing to let her walls down and really get the help she needed.
Unable to control her happiness, Emily reached out and wrapped the small blonde woman in her arms again, hugging her tightly.
JJ smiled into her shoulder, touched that her friend would find such joy and triumph in her decision.
"Oh JJ," she whispered in her ear, "I am so proud of you. So proud. This is the best decision you could have made. Everything is going to be fine… we're going to get through this."
The blonde was once again filled with love and the feeling of protection as Emily referred to her situation as their situation. The brunette made it abundantly clear that JJ wasn't alone
JJ turned this clarity over and over again in her mind.
She wasn't alone.
And in that moment JJ knew, no matter what, that Emily would always be by her side.
