"We should come up with a group name," I said idly watching the others play Wicked Grace in Varric's suite. I wasn't playing, I'm horrible at games, I also know that Izzy is a master cheater and I don't want to lose everything I own.
It had been a few days since the latest addition to our merry group and we'd been mostly running around at night killing random groups of thugs and invading their hideouts and killing their bosses.
Doing things for other people wise, we'd been slacking. On the bright side Fenris seemed to get along with everyone who gathered in Varric's suite for a nightly ritual of card games pretty well, well, a little awkwardly at first but who was really keeping track? I've also finally managed to calm down and not panic and embarrass myself as much in Fenris' presence.
Though, I have noted that he and Anders seemed to have some kind of bitter rivalry going on between them, and I couldn't help but dub them the 'quarrelling glowing brothers' in my head. I'd never tell them that though. Especially since Fenris had made it clear that he was more than capable of ripping hearts out of their chests, and Anders had threatened to rip my head off.
"What do you mean, Hawke?" Varric said not looking up from his hand of dealt cards.
"I dunno, we're like our own little mercenary band," I replied watching Isabela cheat with a wink, "we run around town, pick up jobs, complete them, and get paid."
"I bet we could give Meeran and the Red Iron a run for their sovereigns." Carver laughed.
"Speaking of jobs," Aveline cut in, "don't you think you should get back to looking for and doing them?"
"I was thinking of heading up Sundermount tomorrow," I frowned, "still gotta do that thing for the dragon."
"You haven't done that yet?" Aveline frowned.
"Ahahaha…" I laughed nervously, "I know really shouldn't procrastinate on a job from a scary dragon witch of the wilds but I can't help it. We have to walk up a mountain. A MOUNTAIN! What kind of stamina do you think I have?!"
"You accepted a job from a witch?" Fenris sneered and glared at Anders from behind his cards, "you should never trust mages."
Maker…Even when he's angry his voice is hot. I still have yet to build a resistance to it.
"But I am also a mage." I pouted.
"What about me?" Anders interjected, returning Fenris' glare.
"You're an abomination." Fenris replied with a growl.
"Girls girls, you're both pretty," I said trying to calm the situation down, "let's just play a friendly game of Wicked Grace and drink some booze that Varric's paying for ey?"
I have to admit that Anders does annoy/worry/scare me. I really hope he doesn't land me in super shit because of his 'condition'.
"Sounds more than good to me," Izzy replied as she laid down her cards eyes glowing, "read 'em and weep."
"It doesn't matter, do you want Flemmeth to eat you or curse you?" Carver said frowning at his losses, "let's just get it done already."
I frowned and stole a piece of paper and a quill from one of Varrics drawers and began drawing up a list of things I was supposed to be doing for people.
1. Hike up Sundermount and talk to the Dalish for the scary dragon lady (also known as Flemmeth, who is also the coolest witch I've ever met.).
2. Talk to Hubert in the Hightown Market before Meeran get's on my ass about it.
3. Kill Flint Company Assassin's for a prince of Starkhaven.
4. Locate Tobrius in the Gallows about the letters I found while tromping through the Amell estate.
Is that all I have to do? I don't remember. Crap. Uhm… Think Marian!
"I should get going back to the barracks," Aveline said standing up from her seat, "and you two should also head home."
She was pointing at me and Carver while giving us a meaningful look.
"If you're going up Sundermount tomorrow you should get a full night's rest," Aveline continued, "especially you, Hawke."
I gave a sheepish grin, she wasn't wrong I am useless if I don't get enough sleep.
"Who are you thinking about taking up Sundermount tomorrow?" Anders asked, also getting up and ready to leave.
"Uhm… Maybe… Varric, Fenris, and Aveline?" I replied.
"No can do Hawke, I've got a long day tomorrow." Aveline replied.
"Why aren't you taking me along?" Carver asked demanding an answer.
"Okay, okay, okay," I said raising my hands, "Varric, Fenris, and Carver then."
"Sounds like a party," Varric said knocking back a drink, "bringing me along again because we're partners?"
"Yes, sure, let's go with that." I replied.
It was really just because I found him hilarious; I kind of also wanted to bring Izzy along instead of Carver too; buuuut I don't want her to freeze to death because of her lack of pants. I should buy her pants.
"I suppose I can tag along to keep an eye on you mages and make sure nothing bad happens." Fenris said standing from his seat.
My heart decided to interpret that as 'I'll come along to protect you' despite knowing that he's just making sure I don't do blood magic in my mind. I also knew that if I did blood magic he'd literally have my heart in his hands.
I'd rather he have my heart in his hands figuratively. But that's just me.
"So everyone is dismissed!" I said rising from my seat entirely too fast to be normal, "everyone going to Sundermount meet here tomorrow at dawn!"
"Can you even wake up at dawn, Sister?" Carver said looking at me suspiciously.
"I can try!" I replied and grabbed Carver by the arm, "sleep well my dear compadres!"
We left the Hanged Man while bidding everyone farewell. Fenris headed towards his dilapidated mansion in Hightown and Anders heading to his grodier than Gamlen's hovel in Darktown, while we walked the short path home.
They need better houses. Seriously. Fenris needs to get rid of those bodies. It's gross. Also unhealthy. Maybe he hasn't gotten ridden of them because Anders told him it was unhealthy and he's rebelling.
But damn I can't help being attracted to that voice, and his eyes. Actually, I'm just interested in him in general.
Izzy keeps teasing me about it. Though, it is fun to sit around the Hanged Man with her and watch the many drunkards who wander in and comment on their looks. We've found we have similar tastes, totally besties. In my book though, Fenris is still the hottest.
We reach Gamlen's Grody Hovel while I'm lost in thought about my silly interest in Fenris. Geez, seriously, what am I? Twelve?
Fuck. I forgot to finish my list of things to do. Well, I'll figure it out. Probably. Hopefully. Whatever.
