Location: Quidditch World Cup; Date: August 22nd 1994; Time: Unknown
It was almost lunch time, and by that time Mia was seriously beginning to regret her decision to give the twins a pass. From what she had already overheard, Mia
was almost positive that the two twins were trying to make their actions as obnoxious as possible after hearing a plan which involved hauling the giant squid up into
the great hall to greet the incoming first years. Thankfully their older brothers arrival along with the visiting of Ludo Bagman who was proposing a bet quickly shifted
their attention off of their scheme.
Seeing their attention shift fully off of her, Mia silently got up and moved over to while whispering, "Mr. Weasley I'm going to walk around for a bit and
stretch my legs is it alright if I meet you at our seats later?" Giving her a curious look he quickly nodded before handing her the ticket and replying, "That's perfectly
fine Mia if you get lost just send out a patronus and I'll have one of the boys come find you." Giving him a small smile before replying she joked, "I'll be ok
, I've got a pretty good eye for direction." Waving at the older redheaded man one last time, Mia quickly slipped into the crowd.
Looking at the loud fanfare of the people around her, Mia could hardly believe that this could all change into a terrifying event in the blink of an eye. Continuing to
walk at a slow pace, Mia turned her head as a flash of color caught her eye. Stopping abruptly Mia hardly remembered to apologize to the grumbling wizard behind
her before darting off after the color. She could almost swear that she had seen a flash of blue hair, but not just any blue, it was a familiar blue that she would be able
to recognize anywhere. Rushing haphazardly through the crowd and bumping into several people she came to a stop as she lost sight of the color for a moment.
Looking around frantically she paused for a moment before seeing the blue again. Not wasting any time, she quickly ran off again not paying any attention to her
surroundings.
For Mia it seemed an eternity had passed before she was able to finally stop. As Mia took a moment to look around, she saw that she was on the edge of the camp
grounds. The only noises that could be heard were the faint noise of the celebration behind her, and the quiet noises of the forest in front of her. Not seeing the
familiar blue anywhere in sight, Mia hesitated on the border of the forest before freezing as the sound of a snapping twig could be heard. Slowly reaching for her
wand, Mia kept her eyes trained on the suddenly silent forest in front of her. Her fingers brushing the carved handle of her wand, Mia slowly brought it out in front of
her as she spoke, her voice tense, "Hello?"
Pausing for a moment as the sound stopped, Mia brought quickly pointed her wand directly at the forest before her before slowly stepping forward. Hearing her
inner voice begin to stir, she could hear the voice begin to chastise her, Are you crazy? I mean you obviously must be crazy seeing as how going to investigate
something weird is what got you in this mess in the first place! I mean sure, why not go into the forest ALONE when you know what's going to happen soon. Shaking
her head to rid herself of her thought's Mia quietly mumbled to herself as she moved forward, "Well I suppose I better start working on my courage now then, given
what's going to happen."
Quietly lighting her wand, Mia stepped into the shaded forest as a cool feeling quickly rushed over her. Continuing to walk forward she paused as she saw a familiar
blue light appearing up ahead. Cautiously moving forward, Mia came to a stop just at the edge of a clearing. Feeling her wand arm slowly lower as she slightly
dropped her defensive form Mia looked in shock upon the familiar blue portal that was hovering in the middle of the clearing. Feeling something in her chest spring up
at the thought of going home again she let out a humorless laugh as she slowly moved into the clearing. Stopping right in front of the swirling blue, she took a
moment to actually analyze it instead of letting the light distract her. To her surprise, she saw glimpses of home fading in and out of her view. She could see her
parents sitting in their living room with looks of concern covering their face. As the image changed she saw her friends and teachers at the academy posting missing
posters around the campus with one of her dance profile pictures in the middle. The images swirled once again to show her friends from her Hogwarts days hearing
the news of her disappearance.
Slowly, the image morphed into the stressed form of her best friend as he sat on his couch. His normally bright features were solemn, and the air around him
seemed lifeless as he blankly stared at nothing. Feeling her heart sink in her chest at his expression, she slowly reached out to touch the surface and she mumbled
sadly, "Teddy.."
"I wouldn't do that If I were you." a voice nonchalantly stated from behind her. Freezing with her hand just hovering over the surface of the portal, she quickly
turned around to point her wand at the figure as she spoke her voice harsh, "Who are you?" Watching the man quickly put his hands up, she slowly backed away from
the portal, as her eyes stayed on his form. Taking a step towards her before halting as she threateningly jabbed her wand at him, he quickly backed up before
speaking, "Easy, watch where you point that thing kid, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just here to help clarify some things."
Scoffing a bit at his manner Mia replied sarcastically, "Clarify some things, are you kidding me? You have no idea what I've been through so don't test me. Now I'm
only going to ask one more time, who are you?" Seeing a slightly frustrated expression appear on his features, she continued to glare at him before he spoke as he
slowly lowered his hands. "I get that you've been through more than your fair share right now, but ya gotta listen to what I'm saying because I can guarantee that
I'm the only person who can give you some answers."
Staring blankly at him for a moment, Mia quietly sighed before slowly lowering her wand. Seeing a bit of tension disappear from his figure, Mia kept her wand in
her grip as she spoke, "Fine. If you've got answers tell me, otherwise I won't hesitate to hex you." "I think you've been told of the project the Unspeakables are
workin' on, " seeing her nod at his words he continued, "well it was successful, and someone up top, well, they wanted you here. Seeing her about to angrily retort he
continued, "Hey, I didn't say I knew why. Besides, I'm only in charge of the grunt work. They didn't want me coming back here to speak with you, but I think that's
completely stupid on their part. You deserve some answers after what's happened to ya. So ask away and I'll answer what I can." Her anger slowly fading she asked
hesitantly, "My family, and my friends are they alright? I mean I thought I saw them when I was looking into the portal."
"Yeah, ya did, and as you saw they are completely fine, besides the fact that their looking all over Britain to find you. They even called over to New York to see if
you'd gone there, something about how you looked into it in the past." Waving his hand as if to brush the thought away he stated seriously, "Anyway that's not the
point, someone thinks you're good enough to fix things and create a better future. Now I don't know how you're supposed to do this but from what I've seen you've
got the spirit for it."
Scoffing Mia replied somewhat bitterly, "Yes, because having "spirit" will help me not get killed and worsen one of the bloodiest Wizarding Wars in all of history. I'm
a twenty year old girl who just want's to live her life and get her dream job. I just want a happy, normal, life. I don't have to have a fairy tale ending, I just a normal
life." Her energy slowly fading out as she spoke her last sentence, she saw a look of pity cross the man's face as he replied kindly, "I know kid, it isn't fair. You're too
young to be caught up in all of this."
Blinking her eyes rapidly at the man's words, Mia stays silent as he speaks, " Now I know you're worried about the consequences of changing the past but you have
to keep this in mind, time is fluid, and you have been thrown into it. Your actions can change things for the better, but that doesn't mean all of your actions will lead
to positive outcomes. Start small, change the little mess up's you know will happen. If the time comes where you feel like you could change a major event, listen to
your instincts, and decide if you truly want to change the event. "
Feeling her cheeks dampen from some stray tears, she took a shaky breath before replying, "What if I don't want to change anything? What if I just want to go
home? Why can't I just go home."
The man taking a cautious step forward she slightly tensed as he replied sympathetically, "Amelia, you've already started to change things, and those higher up's…
their not gonna let you come back until it's done. But I promise you, I will do everything I can to help you." Pulling his wand out of his inner jacket pocket, Mia
immediately went on alert before he spoke calmly, "It's good to keep your guard up, but don't make it so obvious all the time or it'll make it easier for others to attack
you. But that's not what I'm trying to do, you still got your phone on you?" Seeing her nod he continued, "Good. Mind giving it to me for a 'mo?" Seeing her confused
expression he only held his free hand out towards her before she quickly dug in her pocket and handed him her sleek smartphone.
Watching him quietly mumble a spell which made her phone light up brightly she stumbled slightly as he threw the phone back at her. "That should keep the
battery going, and I put my contact in there so I can get a hold of you. It should work just like it used to, but keep in mind when using it you probably don't want
anyone else to see it."
Staring a bit in shock at her now fully functioning phone, she asked a bit shocked, "How did you do that technology and magic don't usually mix well…" Watching
the man shrug as a grin appeared on his face he easily replied, "Ah it's a talent of mine.." Pausing as the sudden booming noise of the World Cup announcer echoing
over the land, he turned back to her as he spoke quickly, "And that's my queue I'm afraid. I've got to head back before they notice I'm gone." Jogging away from her
towards the portal, Mia quickly shouted, "Wait, you never even told me your name!"
Seeing him pause just before the surface of the portal, he hesitated for a moment before replying, call me Gage!" With that last exclamation, Mia watched him jump
through the portal with it quickly closing behind him. Frozen in place Mia quickly shook her head before mumbling, "This is honestly so weird that it's almost normal
now.." Shoving her phone and wand in her pocket, Mia took a deep breath before transforming into her owl form and quickly flying towards the stadium. Hearing the
crowds cheering getting louder as she approached she quickly swooped up to the box seats at the top of the stadium.
Slowly circling above the box, she was extremely thankful for her sharp vision as she spotted the sea of redheads below her. Allowing herself to dive down to the hall
outside of the box, Mia patiently waited for the hallway to clear before quickly transforming back as she dropped off her her makeshift perch. Walking to the door and
showing the doorman her ticket Mia finally made her way to the front of the box where the Weasley's were sitting. Seeing an empty seat in between the twins, she
fondly rolled her eyes at their action before walking into the row behind them and jumping into her seat. Allowing herself to laugh a bit at their startled expressions,
Mia asked with fake curiosity. "So what've I missed?" George recovering first, eagerly replied, "They've already brought out the mascots, veelas for Bulgaria and
leprechauns for the Irish. There's been too fake doges for the snitch so far."
Mia looked over at Ginny as the girl added jokingly, "I think they forgot about how they almost threw themselves over the banner for the veelas." Laughing along
with the younger girl, she watched as the twins faces flushed red before turning her focus to the game again. Mia had to admit seeing the World Cup live, and from
the top box no less was a extremely exciting thing. Looking out over the crowd, Mia couldn't help but grin as the cheers and boos echoed throughout the stadium with
each play.
After seeing what was seemingly the most dangerous move ever made in the history of Quidditch, Mia quickly jumped to her feet alongside the Weasley's as the
game ended. It was truly a remarkable game, Krum had caught the snitch but the Irish had won the game. Allowing herself to fully celebrate as she cheered and
hollered at the top of her lungs as the Irish made their victory lap, she was sure her voice would soon be gone as the two teams made their way into the box.
Watching the teams with a grin, Mia's expression quickly turned into one of suspicion as she saw the twins make their way over to Ludo Bagman. Quickly realizing
that the exchange was a follow up for a bet, Mia quietly asked aloud, "They are absolutely mad…"
Seeing Ginny snicker at her comment, as Ron barely covered up his laughter at Mia's expression and tone, she sighed dejectedly before rubbing her forehead.
Risking a glance back at the now grinning pair, she decided to ignore the continued laughter behind her as she thought worriedly, They are going to be worse than
ever, Merlin what was I thinking giving them a free pass… The twins seeming to hear her thoughts, quickly sent her matching smirks as Mia slightly recoiled at their
action while thinking, Oh definitely not good.
Authors Note:
First off I would like to send a huge thank you to all the people who have followed, favorited, or even just taken a moment to glance at my story. Seeing notifications about this story always brighten my day. Also for the Anon who asked about if Mia will ever meet Teddy's parents, I do plan on her meeting his parents at one point but I don't want to give to much away about it. Also that moment is still pretty far off for Mia, as she still has some major obstacles and choices ahead.
