A.N- Hey readers! Gosh, I'm terribly sorry for the break in updating, I have actually been doing things other than laying on my arse all this week. I've been putting a lot of focus into new stories, I dyed my hair blue, and I went to my local Comic Con which was absolutely fantastic! But enough about me, back to the story!
The Doctor and Clara had not made as much progress as Jack and Scarlet. Since the Doctor's main strategy was running and Clara's was actually using her brain, they did not make the best pair. So far, they had reached the weapons, grabbed the few things remaining and made it to a hiding spot.
"These items are useless." The Doctor said as he laid the bag aside.
"Useless? It's full of guns, we can use those."
"If you think I'm going to even touch one of those things then you're mad." Clara ignored the Doctor, sticking one of the smaller guns into her pocket. They had found two pairs of black clothing inside the bag. Even though there were no skirts, Clara did not seem to complain. She sat up and helped the Doctor up himself.
"Come on, let's get moving." She said, taking the lead. The Doctor reluctantly followed behind, walking awkwardly.
"What's wrong?""These clothes are too tight."
"They kinda look like something Scarlet would wear." The Doctor looked down at the black t-shirt and tight pants and nodded his head in agreement.
"I wish they could have given me a bowtie, or a fez at least!"
"Shh, quiet down. Don't want anyone hearing us."
"Or anything." The Doctor said as he stopped in his tracks.
"What?" There was a pause. "Doctor what is it?"
"Don't blink." She turned around to see the stone woman. She was delicately carved, her hair in a neat bun and her arms stretching out towards the couple.
"How did that statue get there?" Clara asked, getting closer.
"Clara, stay back. That's a Weeping Angel, it's alone so it must be weak. It could still snap your neck in a second." With that, Clara stepped back slowly, standing a few feet behind the Doctor.
"What do we do?" Before he could answer, the screech of the intercom turned on, Sky Anderson's voice echoing through the forest
."Hello love birds! Only half the competition remains so I thought it would be the perfect time to have our first challenge!" Her voice paused as some catchy music went off. "This competition is called make it or break it! All the couples have a minute to perform a perfect make out session! The best one will receive a little gift to help them, while the worst will be killed instantly, isn't this fun? Your minute starts now!"
The Doctor and Clara looked at each other, both pretty pissed off. Not that they both didn't think each other were amazing people, its just that kisses shouldn't be forced on each other. Clara broke the staring contest as she quickly turned her head away.
"So what are you thinking?" The Doctor asked, surprised she turned away from him.
"I think we should look at the bloody angel before it snaps both our necks." She said as she realized it had taken a couple steps forward.
"Then we better make this quick." He said leaning in. "Just remember, I've done this a thousand times and it truly means nothing, okay."
"Twenty seconds!" Clara leaned in and kissed the Doctor. It was passionate and smooth, both of them enjoying it equally. The Doctor kissed gently, like he truly cared for the person on the other side of his lips, and Clara responded the same way. When the buzzer went off, they both remembered where they were. They broke apart quickly, turning to see how far away the angel was. Instead, they saw a big black rectangle standing in front of them, protecting them from the angel. When they walked around it, they saw that the other side was a mirror, keeping the angel in place so they could make their escape.
"I guess we won." The Doctor said smiling at his companion.
"Ehh, I've have better." Clara said jokingly, but the Doctor took it seriously.
"What? Who? Was it Nina?" The Doctor said.
"Nina? You mean Angie's mate?"
"No, I mean your phase...wait, that was Oswin."
"One of my echo's was a lesbian? Says a lot."
"About what?"
"Nothing." Clara said innocently as they walked away, leaving the angel to stand still forever.
They walked away, surprised that they hadn't run into any actual couples; unless the angel had an angry husband they had to be on the lookout for, but that was pretty more couples had passed since the 'game'; the one that lost it and one more. Only three couples remained. Clara stayed on the lookout with her gun pointed out in front of her while the Doctor walked to the side of her, looking absolutely disgusted.
"Something you want to say?" She asked.
"I just don't like you holding a gun, that's all."
"So you want us to be defenseless?"
"No, you just look a lot like Scarlet."
"And what's wrong with Scarlet?"
"Nothing."
"Don't lie to me, you've been distant from her ever since you found out who her parents were."
"I'm sorry I want to be careful around the daughter of a power hungry Time Lord, I don't know what she's capable of."
"So you're saying you want to be the only one with Time Lord capabilities? It's been almost a month, why can't you get over that you're not alone!"
"I know its only been a month, I knew the Master for years and look what he turned into!"
"The Time Lords did that to him, and they're all gone. Don't worry about her, she'll be fine."
"I don't know Clara."
"Doctor?" Clara asked with a worried tone of voice.
"What?"
"Where are we?" The Doctor looked around, they did not seem to be in a forest anymore. The place looked like a storage unit, full of cameras and props for some TV show. A new voice entered the room
"You know, usually people notice when they've been teleported, I guess you were too busy bickering." The woman stepped up to them. She had a perfect model figure, she was tall and had brown hair with blue eyes. "I guess you guys aren't a couple at all." The woman's appearance was unfamiliar but her voice was the same one that echoed through the arena.
"Sky Anderson?" Clara asked with question. The woman nodded. "I brought you guys into the games on purpose. I thought Couple's War would be a suitable hiding spot, but never mind that. Something's wrong with the games." The Doctor sighed, her knew exactly what was wrong with the games. The escaped Daleks were controlling them, stealing people and making their army larger. They would reach their down fall, but that wouldn't happen for another forty years.
"And what's wrong with them?" He asked, deciding to play dumb.
"Too many people being taken, more game rooms being built just so they could play more at a time. Everything's gone crazy and corrupt." She said frowning.
"Yeah, says the woman who just said 'won't it be fun to shoot people dead instantly!'" Clara said, her voice full of attitude.
"Oh, you know that's an act. If you don't work for the game station, you put you in for selection." There was a pause. "So can you help?" Although the woman looked older, she was an innocence in her face as she looked up at the Doctor, like so many others had when they hoped he could help him. This time, he couldn't help.
"I can't." Her hopeful smile turned into a hopeless frown.
"Why not?" Both Sky and Clara asked at the same time.
"Because helping you now would change my personal history.
""Oh, so you care more about yourself then you do the planet?" Sky started.
"No but-"
"Do you know how many people die in this station a day?""
No but-"
"Hundreds die! They get shot or blasted or mauled by that bloody bear!" The woman started breaking out in tears. "And I make it happen!" She went over to the Doctor and started crying on her shoulder. He let her cry it out. He understood her, knowing the guilt of killing. When she finally lifted her head, the Doctor wiped a tear from her eye and spoke.
"I'm really sorry I can't help you know, but I can help you in the future. Put the coordinates for my ship into the transmat database and set it for the year 200,100. Then get off this station. It doesn't matter how dirty or dusty it is down there, it is safer than up here." The crushed women nodded. She knew the coordinates for the ship, she used them to bring them here in the first place. She walked them back over to the teleport.
"Two of your friends are still in there. I'm sending you and your ship down there to get them." She paused. "Thank you Doctor, I really hope you come back." With a flash of blue light, the couple was gone.
Jack quietly trotted around the dry dirt, his gun in front of his body. He was alone for the moment, his partner insisted on getting a break from 'the immortal idiot' as she called him. Of course he argued, but she wasn't an idiot, she wouldn't get herself heard a noise close to him. Acting fast, he quietly ducked into a bush and spied on his prey. There were only two other couples let so anyone else here must be deadly. He peeked his head over the greenery to see the couple, completely dressed in black. They appeared to be looking for something. As quietly as he could, he poked his gun through the bush and pointed it at the dark haired woman.
Scarlet was leaning over a bush picking some foreign berries. She didn't know anything about earth berries, let alone alien berries, so she probably would let Jack try them first. As she stood up to stretch her back from all the leaning, she saw it. The blue box just...appeared, which wasn't completely unnatural for the TARDIS, but usually the carefree Time Lord would leave the breaks on, making a scene where ever he went. As she peered behind it, she saw the scene taking place.
She watched as Clara and the Doctor scouted the area, looking for the same thing she was hiding behind. But then she saw it. The sonic blaster that was pointing through the bush, pointing directly at Clara. Scarlet ran for it, kicking dirt and leaves every time her feet hit the ground. As she saw the blue pulse shoot out, she propelled herself into the way, making it strike her right in the chest. She shot back a few feet and went limp.
The Doctor and Clara turned around to see what had happened. They saw Jack screaming Scarlet's name, running and kneeling at her side. Clara too ran over, leaning over her mate and checking for a pulse and life signs, there were none. The Doctor stayed standing, waiting to get away for when she regenerated. She lay limp, no orange light coming out of her body. Clara started to cry, tears falling down her chin and hitting the lifeless body.
"Doctor, why isn't she regenerating?" Jack asked, trying to stay strong. holding in tears that pleaded to come out of his tear ducts. Clara's cries became louder, the uncontrollable wails leaving her body. The Doctor soon figured it out. She was not coming back. He grabbed Jack by his collar and pulled him up.
"You idiot, you can't stop making mistakes can you!" He said trying to control his anger. But it didn't work, the rage came out just the same.
"Do you think I'm happy about what just happened!" He yelled, getting his fist severely close to the Doctor's face. When Clara saw this, she wiped the tears from her face and got up, putting herself between the two men.
"You both need to SHUT UP." Both took a step back, afraid of what an angry and sad Clara can do. "It was neither of your faults. Scarlet died saving a life, she didn't die in vain." Both men nodded. "Doc?" Clara and the Doctor turned to see what Jack was looking at, or not looking at.
"The body's gone." Clara said, trying not to cry again.
"Why don't we all go into the TARDIS, it's still dangerous out here." The Doctor said. Everyone followed into the grey console room. Sitting in one of the seats was a certain blonde, who was too busy with her nose in a book to notice the three walk in. As the door creaked shut, she looked up and smiled.
"Hey guys, where have you been? Nobody was on board when I woke up so I thought I would catch up on some Gallifreyan history." She waived the book in the air. "Have you all been crying, what happened?"
"Scarlet?" Clara asked quietly, tears running down her eyes once more
