I do not own Inuyasha!
Please read and review!
It was quiet, much too hushed, and only the gentle fluttering of the snow as it fell and the rush of air that each individual breathes was heard. The sounds were even more distinct in her now modified state. Snowflakes fell softly on her face and dried on contact by the heat of her powers.
His emotional golden eyes gazed upon his mate, and he wondered about her new powers hoping that she had the strength to defeat his mother, succeed where he couldn't. He could only hope. But his youkai instincts were telling him that all was not as it seemed; because his dam was much too composed. It was to be expected, but it made him all the more uncomfortable, and the fact that she reached inside her robes and retrieved yet another jewel only compounded his suspicions even further.
Handing his son to his brother he reached for his sword, readying himself to spring into battle. Kagome almost glided feeling light as a feather, free as an eagle soaring through the skies as she approached her mother in law. The thought although true was displeasing. The closer she got to the demoness a feeling of uncertainty and foreboding assailed her.
'What am I forgetting?' she questioned herself. Her eyes narrowed into slits while her brows furrowed in concentration as she pondered on the unknown. Then suddenly the answer pierced her brain with enlightenment. Kagome felt a shiver of apprehension dart up the length of her spine, she was not an expert in the occult but she knew enough to know that they were all in grave danger.
The ritual performed to draw her untapped powers to the fore was an incomplete spell and a distraction, she was placed in a four star pentagram, and if her memory was correct the pentagram was a five star diagram. "Oh Kami," she whispered, "What is going on?" The pentagram represents five elements, the wind, water, earth, fire. "Oh no," she sighed as she recalled the points on the diagram and the element of the spirit was missing. The realization made her despondent but only briefly, because if lady Harumi believed that she was going to go down without a fight then she was sadly mistaken.
Kagome's defiant spirit hasten her steps, time was of the essence, she had to destroy the demoness before it was too late, she decided. Her destination stared her into the face smugly as she came to a halt in front of the demoness.
The vindictive inu bitch chuckled and spoke with amusement lacing her tone. "I see now what my son sees in you…Very astute." Kagome looked at the evil bitch with disdain and answered. "If that is your sick and twisted way of complimenting me then you can take it and shove it up your ass." The sudden vehemence from the priestess astounded her and she gave her an angry look. "Save your insults girl, for none of it will help you now."
She couldn't help but to stare as the inu youkai female opened her palm revealing a golden pentacle, which was unusually crafted, the circle was gold while the pentagram inside was silver; she had somehow managed to bind the energy of the moon with silver and the energy of the sun with gold.
Kagome pondered on the strange jewel. 'What is she planning, because she must know that this spell could not possibly kill me?' And as she racked her brain for the answer lady Harumi let go of the jewel which floated towards her, the triangle inside turned left then right, then stilled as it charged the atmosphere.
A wave of power so catastrophic in nature only comparable to hurricane force winds discharged from the jewel which blew the weaker beings and debris away clearing the area. Sesshomaru remained steady bracing himself against the evil and unnatural currents of air.
Would she survive? He felt helpless knowing that he could not assist her; she was a priestess and he only hopes that her divine powers would be of some help. He was a warrior powerful and strong, and maybe the best, but sorcery was not one of his great accomplishments. Kagome stood as the jewel remained suspended in the air while his dam watched the proceedings anxiously waiting on victory.
The moment came and the pentacle seemed to call out to the ruby crystals as it hissed and the crystals answered as they sailed through the air swiftly, singing like the wind as they attached themselves to its points. Kagome closed her eyes and waited for the inevitable, curiously she had a rebellious smile on her face, and the demoness felt an inkling of fear, it was the first time that she had ever evoked such a spell, and she was mindful that she did not know what the full outcome would be.
Dark forces in the atmosphere formed a shadowy purple barrier sealing Kagome, the ryu and lady Harumi inside, thick ominous clouds were summoned littering the sky, heat ebbed and seemed to be vacuumed away from the region leaving a deathly chill causing the blood to freeze.
Obscure energies seeped inside the crystals turning them black while the unnatural wind picked up blowing dust, debris and snow all around forming a typhoon. The daiyoukai shielded his eyes with his hand never losing sight of his mate. Inuyasha took Taizo on his own accord away from the vicinity for safety.
Kagome's eyes grew distant as she felt the dark energies from the crystals slammed into her body painfully, she grimaced, her mouth opened in a silent scream as the darkness flowed throughout her system from the soles of her feet to the tip of her crown; every nerve endings, every tissue, each follicle and shaft of her hair was penetrated as the pentacle reversed her reiki and dragged it out of her body at alarming speeds, then settling into the crystals turning them white.
The job was done, the jewel housing the crystals with Kagome's powers floated effortlessly to the demoness, where she clasped her hand around it eagerly and securing it into her bosom.
The priestess arguably the most powerful in the land was stripped of all her powers, her energies depleted yet she remained standing when in all actuality she should be dead. Sesshomaru watched it all in anguish slashing his sword against a barrier that would not give.
His beast roared and rattled against its cage but to no avail. And as he watched he saw as his mother approached his valiant mate in her most weakened state. "Your purpose is served; you are of no use to anyone now, not even yourself," the female said calmly but cruelly as her claws glowed a distinct green. "I shall deliver you from your misery," she said in amusement and coming dangerously closer.
In all the centuries that he had been alive, Sesshomaru can attest to the fact that this was the first time that he felt completely helpless. His mother was about to kill his mate, destroying his perfect love and he could not save her. The thought caused his heart to palpitate with distress and he sighed heavily while closing his fist tightly, spearing through them with his claws. Maybe the pain he inflicted upon himself would numb the pain in his heart. But even in his thoughts those sentiments were foolish, because the woman was his heart.
Warm red blood encased her nose and mouth and dribbling down the sides of her face. Her breathing slow and forced, and as the demoness looked her over she couldn't help but to wonder about the miko; she was a beautiful human, strong and powerful, an enigma amongst her kind, and her animal nature glorified in the thought of taking her life.
"Kagome," Sesshomaru called from behind the barrier, and by some miracle it seemed as though she had heard and looked at him with dreary eyes briefly. A feeling of intense dread pierced his very soul and he rammed his sword into the barrier with renewed vigor trying and fighting against the odds to save her.
An intense calm descended upon Kagome as the demoness clasped both hands around her slender throat and squeezed. Trembling hands held unto the demoness's own, and eyes filled with venomous poison gazed into shocked golden ones. "I will not let you kill me so easily bitch," and as she spat out those words into the bitch's face a raging fire built up from the depths of her soul and travelling at lightning speed into her hands strengthening them, and capturing the demoness's hands in a vice like grip she let her remaining reiki loose burning the mother in law from hell hands off her neck while she watched open mouthed gaping at the priestess.
Staggering on her feet lady Harumi failed to act quickly paralyzed with fear and shock looking at her now deformed appendages. Thinking quickly, Kagome used the last of her energies knowing that she would die to permanently maim the woman; reaching for her face she clutched at it strongly and burned half of it away while lady Harumi screamed in agony and could not retaliate because she was a cripple missing her hands, her energy exhausted, her pulse weak she fell forward into the dirt. The barrier lifted and the last things she saw was lady Harumi being flown away by the dragon, and as her eyes dimmed even further she saw her mate rushing forward. Her eyes closed, surrendering to the darkness.
