Author's Note: Hi everyone. Sorry for not updating lately. Here's a chapter to make it up for it. I'll try to update again tomorrow.
Chapter Ten
Gaara spent the first week of spring break reading a new book after finishing the previous one, and surfing the Internet. Some times he would go for walks around the neighborhood after dinner, craving to smoke, and hang out with his brother somewhere. In between those activities, his mind had been occupied with thoughts of Hinata. He often wondered what she was doing or how she was. He didn't dare to send her a text message or an email. He only stared at her name on his phone screen. He knew he was being a coward, but he was scared he would only bother her during her vacation.
Hyuuga Hinata.
The more he stared at her name, the more he could see her bright eyes and pink lips smiling, her gorgeous blue hair resting upon her back. The image of her was so vivid he could even smell her sweet scent and feel her cheerfulness radiating. It made him feel more at ease.
He wasn't in love with her. No, he would not admit. But there were parts of her he grew to be fond of so much, such as her bloodshot eyes from crying in the infirmary. Especially that.
After days of only staring at the letters of her name, he finally decided to send her a message. Before he could even touch his phone, it vibrated and his heart began to race. It could be from Kankuro, because he usually texted Gaara if he wanted something, but no it wasn't from him. Gaara's eyes slightly widened when he saw it was from none other than Hinata. He frowned at himself for feeling nervous just because of one text message.
"Good evening, Gaara-kun. How are you?" it said.
He could hear her gentle voice in his head when he read it.
It didn't take long for him to reply. "Hi, Hinata. I'm fine. You?"
He stared long at his phone screen and waited for her to reply back. Minutes that felt like hours passed, and he found himself feeling restless. He ran his fingers through his hair, digging his nails on his skulls, groaning, and tapping his feet.
Did he sound cold in his reply? Was that why she stopped talking? It was funny if she did, because she was the first one to text him.
Thinking those thoughts were slowly destructing him, he decided to surf the web, but he couldn't help glance at his phone from the corner of his eyes once in a while.
After waiting for almost two hours his phone finally vibrated. He didn't want to seem like he'd been waiting for her so he waited a few minutes before reading her text.
"I'm sorry for the late reply. Just had dinner and I helped Neji-nii-san with the dishes. I'm fine, too, thanks for asking."
He wanted to laugh at himself for thinking that she was ignoring him. The thought of her having dinner never even came across his mind.
"It's ok." He replied, muttering a curse at himself for not knowing what else to say.
It seemed she had the same problem as him, because she hadn't replied for a long time. At least, that's what he thought.
He received a message from her, asking how his holiday was.
"It's boring. I didn't do much. You?" he answered.
She told him she'd been staying at home and some times went out with Neji and her younger sister. She also told him that Haruno Sakura, from their class, had asked to go shopping with her. She thought it would be a great chance for her to learn more about the girl world from Sakura.
"I'm really excited." She added.
"I hope you have fun," was his reply.
"Thank you, Gaara-kun."
His lips tugged into a small smile knowing that she had a fun time. He supposed she deserved it especially after going through a tough time.
