Blue had witnessed Erika attack his friends. She had unsheathed her sword; something that she never did. She must have been very passionate about whatever the reason she had for attacking his friends. And it was because of this that Blue found it hard to be angry with her.
There was something in the way that she moved during her fight with Misty. It was melodical, almost dance-like. It was beautiful. Her attacks were precise, each one's intent to kill.
The atmosphere still hadn't returned to normal. Bits of snow still fell from the sky covering the forest in white. To anyone else, the sight would have been amazing. To Blue it was disgusting.
Erika had been completely quiet. Was she even still alive? Blue hadn't even considered that she might not be able to withstand the cold that enveloped him. A small turn of his head revealed that she was shivering. Her eyes were red and swollen. Why hadn't he known she had been crying?
"There is something in need to show you," Erika said after Blue hand landed. She surveyed the surroundings; it was a beautiful, snow-covered wonderland. Grass, trees, and ground were covered in white. And it was silent. Desolate. Away from any contact.
Blue landed near a frozen tree. "What?"
"Please, don't be mad at me," Erika whimpered. Blue shook his head.
"I'm not-what is that?" Blue asked as Erika pulled what looked like a feather from her kimono. "Is that what I think it is?"
"The rainbow wing?" Erika asked as she offered it to Blue. "I heard your friends talking about finding these sacred objects. I had obtained it from a merchant while on my way to Goldenrod City and decided to keep it with me. But, after hearing what would happen if the objects fell into the wrong hands...I think it's best if you hold onto it."
"Why are you-?" Blue asked as he took the wing. A sorrowful smile played on Erika's lips as she stood to her feet. "Where are you going?"
"It's best if I leave now. I've already caused so much trouble as it is."
"What are you talking about? Do you mean attacking my friends? They probably deserved it anyway."
Erika shook her head. "No. I'm trouble wherever I go. I've caused you and your friends so much pain, and I can't handle it anymore," she turned and began to walk away. Blue stood and started after her.
"Erika, wait! We haven't even reached Goldenrod yet!" His voice trembled. He couldn't let her go. Not now, not ever.
"It's not that far from here. Thank you for everything," she replied without turning back.
"Erika!" Blue roared as he grasped her shoulder. She quickly turned around and blew in his face, exhaling small, green particles.
Shit!
"Erika," Blue said drowsily. "Please, don't do this."
"I'm so sorry," She replied. Was that a tear that fell from her cheek? "Forgive me," was the last thing Blue heard before he fell to the ground and was overwhelmed by darkness.
Now Erika was truly alone. She had lost the one person that she loved more than life, and all of his friends. Her friends. No, she realized seconds later. If they were her friends, she wouldn't have tried to kill them. How could she have betrayed them? The had shown nothing but kindness towards her, and had even welcomed her into their group.
The rainbow wing was now in Blue's possession, so now Erika felt as if her mission in life had been completed. There was only one thing left to do.
Travel to Goldenrod City in order to fulfill what she had originally set out to do.
The forest was still frozen, painfully reminding Erika of her loss. She shook her head as if removing the memories of Blue. However, they continued to plague her brain. No matter what she did, Erika feared that she would never forget Blue.
After several hours of walking, she came to a point in the forest where the ice and snow was beginning to melt. She must have been close to the exit. Just a little further, and she would be on the road that led to her destination. She began to feel the air warm, and, as she grew further away from the forest, the sun shone its bright rays upon Erika's skin. Strangely, she wasn't as happy as she usually was when the sun fell upon her. No, she was almost indifferent this time around.
Route 34 was just ahead of her. Only a few more miles and she would reach her destination. As she walked, she couldn't help but to think of Blue. She wished she could have done something different. Anything that would have altered how they parted ways. She never wanted to leave him. It was the hardest decision. She feared that she would never recover.
"What's this?" A familiar voice said, causing Erika to shiver. "Where are your parakeets?"
Erika turned to see Enigma. Her knees began to shake, and her lip quivered. There was no way she would be able to take him on, and now that she no longer possessed the rainbow wing, he would have no use for her and just end up killing her. "Why do you look so scared?"
"I'm not," Erika's voice trembled. Who was she kidding? She was terrified. She glanced behind her in order to judge the distance she had to cover to reach Goldenrod. It wasn't that far. If she started now, she might be able to make it before Enigma could catch her.
Pivoting on her heel, she turned 180 degrees and began to dash. Before she could even cover ten feet, Enigma had caught her, threw her to the ground, and pinned her with the weight of his foot. "Uh-uh," he tsked. "Where do you think you're going?"
"Get the hell off me!" Erika cried.
"How about you give me the wing, and then we will talk."
Erika squinched her eyes. What was she supposed to tell him? That she didn't have it anymore? She would be killed in a heartbeat. That the wing was now in Blue's possession? She and him would be dead in a heartbeat. Erika began to realize she was in a lose-lose position.
"You don't have it anymore, do you?" Enigma came to an astonishing realization, and tears began to fall from Erika's eyes. This was the end for her. "Where is it?" Enigma snarled as he picked Erika up by her hair. "Does that fucking bird have it?" He asked, his tone growing even darker. His arm transformed into a spear, and he raised it to Erika's throat. "Answer me, bitch!"
A deep breath entered the young female's lungs, and, knowing very well that this could be her last, she savored it. She closed her eyes, and an image of Blue materialized. Beautiful Blue. How could she leave him, especially this way? She had already broken his heart, dying would completely shatter him. No way she would hurt him again.
She wanted to live. To live for him. Fire rose within her, and as Enigma began the ending blow, Erika intercepted, blowing a cloud of yellow dust in his face. Instantly, Enigma became paralyzed, and dropped her. Realizing this was her only chance to escape, she rebounded from the ground quickly and dashed toward the city.
"I will kill you, bitch!" Enigma screamed after her. The proclamation terrified Erika, because she knew that he would get his revenge one way or another.
