Seeing the Sun

Chapter 11-ish

A/N: Yo.

"J-Jo?" Meg steps back, startled. She can't take it in. She can't believe that Jo's a killer. She's standing there, looking down into the barrel of one of the girl's pistols, but can't believe it. Jo, who had comforted her, once drove her home, once smirked at her with a hint of kindness in her normally angry face, was now ready to shoot her.

Blue eyes met crimson ones, trying to see if this was really Jo. But it was clear that it was. No one else would look like that. There was a look of grim resolve as the slightly older girl looked at her. There was a hint of sorrow in her eyes. Her hand shook, ever so slightly. That resolve of hers was weak.

Take advantage of it, Meg.

"Jo, what are you doing?"

"I'm sorry," Jo looks up at her, gritting her teeth. "I dragged you into this. If you didn't know me, this would be a hell of a lot easier." Meg's eyes widened further as she realized that Jo was apologizing for knowing her.

"Wait!" she held up her hands in defense. "You don't have to kill me."

"But you saw it, Meg." Jo can feel her tattoos heating slightly. "You saw it, and if I let you live then you'll tell people. And if you tell people, then that's it. I'll lose my home, I'll lose my job, and I'll die. That, I don't give a shit about. But my sisters..." she tightens her grip on the pistol. "Sei and Amy... they'll lose their home, their jobs, and me... I have to keep helping them."

"I won't tell anyone!" shouts the red-head, and she realizes that she means it. She wouldn't tell anyone what Jo did. Especially after hearing that. "Don't you trust me, Jo?"

"No one..." Jo's eyes close. "Not one single person in this world deserves the benefit of doubt. Anyone can hurt you. With motive, any given person would stab you in the back." Her eyes open, glaring at her. "It's as simple as that. You haven't proven me wrong," Meg shrinks back, "but you haven't proven me right, either."

Jo seems to calm down after this, despite her angry words. She slumps back, though keeps her eyes trained on the girl before her. She drops the gun, resuming treatment of her wound. She's been letting them bleed for a while now. Once done, she looks back to the witness.

"I need you-want you- to prove me wrong, Meg. Please."

With that, Jo gets up, onto her bike. She looks at Meg. "Want a ride?"

Meg thinks she understands Jo a little more now.

It's obvious Jo's gotten herself into some pretty bad stuff. How, Meg doesn't know, but she knows that it's true. Also, something happened to Jo that made her lose trust in the world, so she thinks it's safe to assume that someone close to her betrayed her trust. Also, Jo refused any help. From anyone. Meg saw this when she offered to help her with her bandages.

"They're fine," Jo had snapped upon hearing the offer. "I already treated them."

Lastly, Jo had been doing this sort of thing for a long time. She was experienced in the whole killing thing, form what Meg had seen. But Meg found herself trusting her. She didn't know why. Maybe because Jo had once saved her life. Maybe it was because, though she had killed those guys with no hesitation, she had looked tortured at the prospect of killing her.

"You know," Meg muses, arms wrapped around Jo's figure as they speed down the street, "nothing's really changed. You're no different. You're still Jo. I just know more about you know, is all."

"Wow..." Jo gets to Meg's house and looks back at her. "You don't seem like you let stuff bother you."

Meg shrugs before walking away. Jo rides back, feeling as if a weight has been lifted off her shoulders. Meg knows. And she won't tell anyone.

If she does, well... She won't be able to talk much after that.

Jo sighs as she sees Sei has once again fallen asleep at her desk. Like herself, she works to much, but at least Jo can handle it. This is a common occurrence in her house, and unless Jo intervenes Sei ends up sore from sleeping in such on awkward position.

Not even bothering to wake her sister up, she grabs the older girl and carefully swings her over her shoulder. She slowly walks to Sei's room. It's simple and orderly, not one thing being out of place. Jo pulls away the covers, sets Sei down, flips the blankets onto her and goes to Amy's room.

"Kid," she mutters as she walks in. "I know you're not asleep. Get off your damn laptop."

She's right. Amy, surrounded by her overly-girly, pink room, looks up at her, stunned. Her eyes are bloodshot from looking at her computer all day, but she smiles when she sees Jo. There's a faint sound of rain outside, and both girls share a knowing look. Jo grabs Amy, picking the small girl up in a similar fashion she did to Sei, and runs out into the rain, putting Amy down. She gets on her bike, a wide, energized grin on her face.

"Hop on Amy!" she yells. Laughing, Amy obeys and they speed down the slick streets until they get to the city. The two watch the bright lights reflect on the streets, getting wet but not caring. This has always been their favorite sight, since they met. Jo feels the rain against her scars, easing the burn that's always there as they both admire the beautiful view before them.

"Rain makes everything better," states Amy, smiling.

"Yeah. I guess it does."

A/N: So now you know of their fascination with rain. Where will Meg and Jo's relationship go from here, I wonder?
