Seeing the Sun

Chapter 14- LET THE WALL BE BOMBED DOWN! THANK YOU, D'JANGO!

A/N: I am hereby destroying the wall. This chapter, if my estimation is correct, should be out as SOON AS FUCKING POSSIBLE and should show you how Jo's interactions with her higher-ups (not skill-wise) and how she, inevitably, went to prison.

Jo's Past:

Part 3

"Katsumi-san," Jo says, forcing respect as she bows her head. She hates feeling like a puppet. But it's for them. Her gaze slides over to Amy and Sei, who are in similar positions. It's for them. Her family.

"Jo," her boss acknowledges her, nodding. "You've served us well. The team of you three is one of our elite groups, now. Amy, you are excellent with the computer. Sei, you make a fantastic leader. And Jo... you are an angel of death." He gestures to a door. "Please go in and claim your rewards; think of it as a thank you for your services."

The trio walks in, finding a variety of different things. It's clear what belongs to who, since they know eachother so well. Amy gets a new computer, which she describes as "the God of all machinery". At this, the two older girls have to laugh a bit. Sei gets the keys to an apartment, much better than where they're staying at the moment, and also a communicator. And then there's Jo. Her battle gear, courtesy of the Bai-Lan organization.

There's a new red jacket, a symbol of a white orchid and a pair of wings embroidered on the back. It's long, much longer than her current one. Also, two desert eagles, both in great condition, and a bike. Jo reaches out, touching the silver of the vehicle and feels it hum slightly as it does so. She's tracing the red markings when she sees a note:

This bike is called D'jango.

It will recognize you now, and will only

move if it's you that's driving it. It has

memorized your finger-prints, and

probably already recorded the data.

After that, there are detailed instructions as to how to use it. Jo reads them over fast, absorbing the data she sees as important as she subconsciously runs her hand over her new toy. Judging by what this is saying, it'll be fun to have. Built-in machine guns, unable to be stolen, super-fast... she smirks. This will help her out a lot.

"Sei, Amy, Jo," they hear Katsumi call. "Once you gather your things, you are free to go to your new apartment after grabbing anything that's yours."

They gather their things, Sei and Amy getting in the car. Jo smirks, getting on her bike and looking at them with wild eyes. "You guys can get there with the car," she says, revving the engine, "I'll be trying this thing out."

With that, she roars down the street.

Jo looks at the cigarette, curious. It's not as bad as she thought it'd be. She takes another drag. The weapons dealer, flexing the robotic replacement hand given to them by the syndicate (there was a really pissed off guy with a knife one time), looks at her curiously.

"Damn shame. I love watching people who are new to it choke on their own breath." She sets down her bottle, leaning back in her chair and lazily opening a drawer. "Here's yer damn pistol ammo," she slurs, "and a pack to smoke."

Jo looks down, and sure enough a pack of cigarettes are sitting on the table in front of her. "Thanks."

"I only gave it to you 'cause you didn't choke. Good job, newbie."

Jo smirks, picking up the pack and sliding it into her pocket. "Thanks. Enjoy your hangover."

"I won't get drunk," retorts the dealer, grinning. "It takes more than a few bottles. I haven't gotten drunk for five years."

"Hard to believe that."

"Shut the hell up and get your damn ammo already. And don't get hooked on it or anything." She gestures to the pack in Jo's hands. "Like, don't do the illegal shit." She takes another swig. "It'll fuck up your life, big-time." Done with the bottle, she throws it to the floor, hearing the glass shatter. "Now get the hell out before the cops show up. And Bai-Lan told me to give you this," she slides over a card, "real license for carrying lethal weapons. You'll need it."

Jo nods, walking out and blowing out another small cloud of smoke into the air, polluting it. She squints in the bright sunlight, going to find shade somewhere. The sun has bothered her since- it's bothered her for a long time. (A/N: Heh. You probably thought I was going to reveal some of her past.) She goes to her bike, revving the engine before taking off. She's sixteen now, so no one gives her weird looks for being able to ride it so well. Not anymore, at least.

She reaches the apartment, getting out and putting out the cigarette. At that moment, Sei opens the door, glaring at the smoldering object in her hand.

"No."

"Yes." Jo gets up the stairs in a single bound, ending up right next to Sei and smirking as she meets her older sister's eyes. "What's the mission, commander?" This is said in a mocking tone, but Sei knows she actually wants to be told what she has to do now.

"Get your gear. You have to kill someone," Sei answers in an almost quiet voice, handing her the folder. Jo nods, taking it as her face becomes serious again, heading into the basement. "After that, you're free for the next few days."

"Got it," calls Jo from down the flight of stairs.

"Shit," is all Jo can think at the moment. "How the hell did I get in this situation?"

She's riding down the street, being chased by another bike and two cars. Police. She groans, taking out her pistol and, without looking back as she turns the corner, shoots the tire of one of the cars off from where it's attached to the vehicle. She smirks as the patrol car flips over, rolling until it stops, upside-down. She hears the chick on the bike cursing at her, and slows down, letting them catch up a bit.

She turns around fast, heading in the opposite direction with double the speed from before, flipping them the bird. The other bike is the first to resume pursuit, yelling angrily at her. Jo shoots a bullet in front of her, warning her. All she'd wanted to do was help that one guy. He hadn't done anything wrong. He was the victim. So she distracted the police.

You know, she was damn lucky she wasn't wearing her mission gear, or they would've tried sniping her by now.

Of course, the sword-wielding police-woman behind her can't really do that now, can they? Jo smirks as more angry curses are thrown at her. She's not really a police-woman, she notes. She's just a police-girl. She's about the same age, anyways. But the fact remains that Jo is faster, and more experienced since she's been riding since before it was legal.

Just when she's almost out of range, there's an overwhelming pain in her arm. Still moving at incredible speeds, she finds herself letting go, screaming in agony. She looks at her arm. A bullet grazed the markings. A bullet that was burnt to a smoldering crisp.

She crashes into the side of a building, hard. The impact knocks the wind out of her. The other biker finally catches up, wondering why she screamed so loud. Jo glares at her so angrily that she steps back, letting the other officers handle it.

Jo punches the brick wall of the cell, making a sizable dent in it. She has no cellmate, seeing as she got into a... disagreement with the one that was here before. She smirks as she recalls the look of shock on the muscled mans face as he notices the blood that's running freely from his nose. The guy was all talk, it seemed. The second he realized she was a threat he started bawling, crying like a baby.

"They managed to shorten your sentence to two months," she hears Sei mention. "It would've been two years. But why'd you do it, Jo?"

"He was innocent." Jo's tone is serious. "He hadn't done anything wrong. The police, I know, wouldn't have believed me; I've caused them enough trouble as it is, so I distracted them so he could get away." She seems to calm down, sitting on the bunk. "And if two months is all I have to pay for having my own opinions, then I'll gladly take it."

She watches her sister leave with a self-satisfied grin on her face. She takes out a cigarette, lighting it up. Already, it's becoming a habit. She's just lucky they didn't find her lighter.

A/N: So now you know. -claps- You know why she went to prison. For helping someone! Who would've thought, hmm? The next Jo's past will be out... in about five or so chapters. Possible more. And you probably thought it would be three... psshh.
