Seeing the Sun
Chapter 15
The road to a mission she actually doesn't want to go to...
is disappointingly short.
Jo sighs heavily as she speeds down the streets of Tokyo, squinting slightly in the fading light of the sun. She doesn't like this. She was meant to kill people, not play bodyguard for someone she hates. She was on her way to go... start her mission with Katsumi, her boss. Her grip on the handle-bars tightens in irritation as she finally reaches her destination.
It's a big building, and it's flashy, so she knows that this is indeed where she was supposed to go. She has her guns out, but not her "work" outfit. No... in broad daylight, that was never a good idea. She pushes the doors open, walking in like she owns the place. She approaches the receptionist.
"Where's Katsumi?" she snaps, clearly in a bad mood.
"T-top floor," replies the scared woman, shrinking back slightly.
Jo nods in thanks and walks towards the elevator, not bothering to look around as she lights up another cigarette. Slowly, the elevator begins the trek up to the 107th floor.
It stops.
"Shit," Jo presses the button to open the doors, revealing that she's been stopped somewhere in between the 50th and 51st floors. "I was really hoping today wouldn't be one of those days."
She shoots multiple holes in the ceiling of the machine, throwing her gun up once she finishes. The impact makes it give out, and she narrowly misses being hit (actually, she moved out of the way pretty fast, but that's beside the point) as the roof of the elevator comes down.
Jo jumps up, seeing that the only door is about twenty feet up. Groaning, she grabs on to the wall, beginning to climb slowly up to the-
What the hell?
Was that the elevator?
Well, I'll be damned.
Screw being slow, Jo jumps from wall to wall until she gets to the door, pressing herself against it as the elevator shoots, super-speed, up and violently crashes at the top. She watches as it bangs it's way down the shoot, somewhat glad that she was able to get out of it's way.
But onto the next obstacle...
Showing great strength (and anger), Jo pries open the elevator door. Many of the staff members turn as they hear the metal being forced open, and the look on Jo's face make at least half of them piss their pants. The silver-haired girl walks towards the stairs, flipping them off on the way. Once on the top floor (having gotten rid of several nuisances on the way), she stops.
"Katsumi, we have to go."
Her boss is standing by one of the many huge windows, admiring the view. He turns to face the angry girl, that same smirk on his face that she always hates. "Why would that be, Jo?"
"You're already being targeted," remarks the gunslinger, shooting through the window. The sniper falls from a building two streets away. "We can't waste any more time here."
She could not hate the situation she was in any more.
Seeing as Katsumi's driver wasn't scheduled to pick him up until much later, she was forced to let him ride on D'jango. Behind her. As she got ready to move, she felt his arms wrap around her waist and hissed in disgust. "This might be just a bit fast," she spits out, and then begins the ride down the street.
"Loosen up your grip, old man," she snaps as she sees the cars behind them, going almost as fast and pursuing them. "I can't shoot with my movement so restricted."
Though Katsumi is only twenty something, and she could probably shoot either way, he complies. She's relieved, not having liked the way he'd been gripping her unnecessarily tight. Taking out one of her pistols as she steers with her other hand, she shoots through the window of one of the cars, hitting the driver right between the eyes. Said car swerves off-road, crashing into a lamp-post. Jo can hear it happen, and she also hears the faint sound of sirens.
"Katsumi."
"What is it?"
"You can't afford to be caught by the cops, right?"
"That much is true."
"In which case," she makes a turn, in a full circle, making him fall off the bike. "Get the hell off my bike and hide in this alley."
With that, she speeds off, going towards the enemies. One of the men leans out the window with a gun, trying to scope in on her as she swerves down the street. Taking out her pistol again, she shoots at him. Mid-air, the bullet curves, going through the scope and his eye.
She watches the cars, planning her next move. Taking out a butterfly knife, she smirks. She throws it, and the explosive blade is lodged in the chest of the man driving the fastest one. She pulls out the detonator as the car turns sideways slightly, slowing. She waits until the other cars have gotten there to press the button.
As the cars blow up, she speeds back to where Katsumi is. The man gets on the bike, and Jo cuts through the alley just as the police get to the disaster area. Just as they get out of the area, Jo makes a few turns and they find themselves heading in the general direction of where the police are.
"What are you doing, Jo?" asks Katsumi, raising an eyebrow. They stop, a block away.
"First off," she says, walking the bike over to the cops, "if they attack us, the police may be forced to join the fight and we can claim it to be self-defense, which it is, in a way. And second," she lights up a cigarette, putting it in her mouth. "We'll seem less like suspects if we only just showed up, right?"
Before they could get there, they heard a low bark, coming where they were headed.
A huge, mini-horse-sized pit-bull was running towards them, barking happily. It's coat was pure black, eyes red. Honestly, if it hadn't look so overjoyed, it would've been terrifying. But before it could make it far, it was pulled back.
Jo, who's expression had brightened considerably, scowled as she saw the harness on the dog. She shot the chain that was attached to it, and was soon tackled to the ground by the hound.
She whispered something and began scratching the dog behind it's ears.
"What the-" she heard a familiar voice and slipped out from under the dog's massive figure, waving as Takane walked up, broken chain in hand. "First the dammed dog gets the muzzle off, and now the leash is..." she trails off, seeing Jo. "He... He was... nice to you?"
"Of course he was," snaps Jo, patting the dog on the head. It sits up straighter. "He is my dog, after all, and I would like to know a few things." She glared at Takane, protectively wrapping her arms around the thick neck of the animal. "Why would you restrict him like that, why is he with you, and how did you find Kannibal?"
A/N: Yes, I gave Jo a dog. In a way, this was part of the original plan. At first, I was going to make D'jango the name of a dog that she would've had at the beginning of the story, but decided against it. So yeah, don't get mad at me. It's actually part of her past, kind of.
