Garnet stood outside of the Pokémon Center, staring up from the courtyard into the deep sky. There was a little tower-like model in the centre of this courtyard in the centre of the gigantic building-city. Once they had arrived in this large place Sapphire had taken her around all the shops available here. She hadn't bought anything but Pokémon food, nothing else stood out to her as something she would want. Sapphire hadn't bought much, she simply wanted to see what was in each and every shop, they had thought long and hard about whether or not to buy a bike each, but the price tag had put them off buying the useful item, Garnet was just as happy walking and some places a bike would simply be an inconvenience.

They had seen some red-clad members muttering near the north exit of the city, they had mentioned Mount Chimney and Meteor Falls before rushing off. Garnet had seen no point in giving chase to minor criminals like those. By that time it had been dusky and Sapphire spoke of spending the night at the city's Center, so they had booked their rooms and Sapphire was now snoozing the night away.

Titan hovered in front of her, peering deep into her eyes. "I'm alright Titan; I just… have a foreboding feeling in my stomach. It's almost like, like the calm before a storm. Or the silence before a hunt begins. I know this well, yet it doesn't make the foreboding feeling go away with experience. It just strengthens the hopelessness of my existence. What is my purpose anyway? I serve none while I flitter around these regions, just waiting for them to come looking for me, or for my secret to leak out and have everyone know what I am." She moved over to a bench and dropped onto it, the Pokémon followed her, placing one large, clawed hand on her shoulder to comfort her. "I found out all those years ago what I was, and what my purpose for being created was, but my purpose in 'living' has not yet been outlined. Though, what can I do but run? If they learn to control me I have nothing left and every living creature could perish."

Scuffling paws, a prowling Pokémon drew closer to her. Garnet looked up, straight into the narrowed eyes of a Mightyena. It crouched down, ready to spring, a growl ripping out of its maw.

"What is wrong friend?" She stood, stretching out a hand to the Pokémon. She saw in its eyes it was not wild and free, it was working under the control of some human. Garnet's eyes swept across the landscape - all the lights in the two floors of the building were out - there were no faces half-concealed behind the panes of glass. She could smell a human nearby, but they were hiding from her.

Seeing its opportunity in her distraction, the Mightyena pounced at her, sinking its teeth into her outstretched arm. Hot, red blood spurted out of her flesh; she flinched, tearing her arm out of the Crunch, dragging the Pokémon's fangs down her arm. Once it let go her arm was in tatters, but already healing itself. Titan flew at the Pokémon to defend her.

"Stay back! That's an order Titan. You need not get hurt here." The Pokémon reluctantly backed away, unable to ignore her order. "There is no need for you to fight with me young one. You should leave now." Her advice flew right over the head of Mightyena, who pounced once more. Garnet avoided his next Crunch, but once it landed it sent a Dark Pulse smashing into her back.

The Pokémon was playing dirty. But she refused to rise to the challenge set by the Pokémon. She would not fight this misguided Pokémon. All the wounds created by his attacks were healing themselves perfectly well; her inner energy was not depleted yet. She redirected the next Dark Pulse, it launched into the night sky harmlessly.

"It's really quite a good idea, to hit me with those moves, but it won't work what you're trying." She smirked at the Mightyena, "See I know the moves, and can use that knowledge to control them." She caught another Dark Pulse and threw it into the sky again. "I cover my weaknesses." It backed off growling deeply.

"Chic use Double Kick!" Garnet turned as a Combusken pounced at Mightyena, kicking it solidly and causing the Pokémon to flee the scene. "That…" Garnet looked into Sapphire's deep blue eyes, seeing all the questions and misgivings resting within them. "Was…"

"All a dream, go back to bed and you'll wake up." Garnet passed the girl and entered the Pokémon Center. Sapphire scowled at the vanishing girl and Metang. She thought that Garnet and herself had been getting along just this afternoon, but the girl had seemed to put up those walls again, returning to the cold, blunt person she had been before.

"You're welcome!" Sapphire yelled at the vanishing figure, which turned, looking over her shoulder, her eyes narrowed in some emotion other than anger, was it fears?

"Yeah, thanks," Garnet muttered before vanishing deeper inside the Pokémon Center.

(Many Years Ago)

Subject 663 and six clones landed on the island they all hated so. The larger clones tossed their heads in fear of this place. Rapidash tossed her flaming blue-gray mane in her distress. Arcanine and Ninetales narrowed their eyes and growled at the sight of the enormous new facility erected where the shabby old lab had stood. The three little ones stayed by Subject 663's ankles. She breathed in deeply before she had summoned enough courage to enter this place. She had to remember there was nothing they could do to her now; she had the item they needed, and was not going to give it up for the world.

The giant doors were shut firmly, pushing them with her bare hand did nothing to budge them, so Subject 663 called upon her immense psychic abilities to force the door open, she strolled through it calmly, entering a humungous hall where a handful of humans faced three gigantic Pokémon one other standing behind them.

"The hour of my vengeance draws near." A booming baritone voice sounded. A psychic voice accompanied by a powerful psychic aura which seemed very familiar to Subject 663 as she walked deeper, the doors swinging shut behind her. The clones surrounding her as the water from the storm left their bodies.

"Quite the perfect chaos you've created out there. Your power might even be able to rival my own." She stepped closer, seeing the glare she was receiving from the purple Pokémon facing her.

"Ignorant human, you believe to possess power on the same level as my own." She passed the gathering of humans, seeing their disbelief as she walked forward fearlessly.

"Don't you dare," her voice was warning. "Don't you ever call me human!" Subject 663 pointed her finger at the humanoid Pokémon. "I am not one of them." Her eyes glowed crimson red, the light spreading across her entire body as she removed her human guise. She stepped out of the ruby light completely changed.

Her legs were slim; she seemed to perch on her toes - paws - as her legs bent backward, much like those of Meowth or Arcanine. Her hips were slightly larger, curving outwards much like those of the Pokémon facing her. Her upper body was slim, her ribs showing, they looked very similar to those of humans. The face of Subject 663 was semi-feline, it was more angular than Mew's facial features and her ruby eyes were shaped like almonds. Her skin was a pale blue, which darkened to a sky blue around her hand-paws and hind paws; also the tip of her tail was sky blue. She had a stripe around her waist of the same hue; it almost looked as if she was wearing a belt.

"Could it be, Mew?" He gasped and glared at her.

"No, I am not Mew. I resided within a laboratory located on this very island, for decades they experimented on me to splice my genes with I believe those of Mew." She swished her tail from side to side.

"So you are the specimen I read about while looking through all the data and records of this place. You think you are more powerful than I?" He scoffed a ball of energy swelling in his hand. "Your appearance here means little; you will not stop my plans."

She ignored the energy ball in his hand, it didn't threaten her. "What are your plans?" She enquired, feeling his anger boiling.

"My storm shall make a new world, a world where my clones rule over." He released the energy - it flew towards her - she simply caught it and tossed it in one paw nonchalantly.

"You can't do that, I won't let you." She turned to see a human boy walking into the room; he strolled as if he was invincible. Behind him walked many Pokémon, who glared at their clone selves on the other side of the room.

"It is useless to challenge me." Subject 663 glared at the Pokémon, irritated by its intentions and self-absorption.

"It's not going to end like this Mewtwo, I won't let it! You're mine!" The raven-haired boy sprinted towards Mewtwo, heading to punch it. But Mewtwo's psychic energy stopped the punch and flung the boy back. He landed sprawled on his back but leapt to his feet again to run at Mewtwo once again.

This time Mewtwo flung him across the room, he screamed as he flew towards the opposite wall. Suddenly, a pink bubble of pure energy appeared and caught the boy, bouncing him up and down. Mew drifted out from hiding, bursting the bubble innocently and giggling, creating another for it t bounce on, mewing happily as it played.

"Mew," 663 whispered, amazed the Pokémon was actually here since upon her arrival she had not seen any evidence that the feline Pokémon had even come here.

Mewtwo hurled a ball of dark energy at Mew. 663 used a lasso of crimson energy to pull it off course. The energy slammed harmlessly into the wall about six feet away from the giggling Mew.

"You dare interfere?" Mewtwo turned on 663, anger rising in his voice.

"Yes I do, since harming Pokémon needlessly is not on my agenda. I don't see how your quest for world domination could possibly bring you what you want. Humans created you, so what? Humans put me through hell yet I do not want them all to perish in some gigantic storm!" Her voice rose louder and louder. "You must have some human in you, as I know not one Pokémon with anger such as yours. It will lead you down a path of destruction that will ultimately lead you to emptiness!"

Mew zoomed down towards her; she looked over to it as it landed on her head, peering down into her ruby eyes curiously. It looked back up at Mewtwo and started chirping out a lecture of its own. 663 listened intently and marvelled at the little Pokémon's wisdom; even though it was tiny she could sense age and great knowledge within the little feline Pokémon.

She picked up on the main point that true strength did not lie within special powers but within the strength of one's own heart. It was a little cheesy, but the point was solid, that Mewtwo could throw his weight around as much as he wanted, but it would prove nothing more than his arrogance.

"My clones don't need their powers to prove their worth!" Mewtwo hurled another ball at 663 and Mew. Mew flew away and she ducked, the energy ball shot over to the opposing wall and smashed into it, nearly squishing the human boy who was still up on the elaborately carved features there. "I will block all the Pokémon's special abilities using my psychic powers. Now we shall see who triumphs, go!" The entire clone Pokémon rushed towards their counterparts, attacking them with brute strength.

Seeing all the Pokémon forced to fight like this made 663's anger boil and bubble. Her eyes shone completely scarlet and a ball of crimson energy enveloped her, lifting her into the air slowly. Mewtwo, upon seeing the challenge did the same, a blue ball of energy fading into existence around him.

"You've gone too far!" She yelled as she manipulated the ball of red, making it shoot over towards Mewtwo. Mew, inside a bubble of pink energy, joined the fray. The two pounded at Mewtwo, who gave as well as he got.

Meanwhile, the raven-haired boy slowly made his way down to the ground, horrified at the sight of all the Pokémon fighting one another as if their very lives depended on it. The sight was disheartening. He spotted his Pikachu, who was the only Pokémon refusing to fight its clone self, the clone angrily beating away at the poor creature.

The sight made his resolve strengthen. He had to stop this no matter what. He glanced upward and saw the three coloured spheres pounding at one another, visible shock waves appearing whenever they collided. The power in those three Pokémon was unbelievable.

Each Pokémon began to topple, their strength equal, their energy leaving them. A woman with pink hair cried out, "Pokémon aren't meant to fight, not like this! It's useless, what can come out of it?!" All the gathered humans wore matching expressions of horror as the Pokémon around them tried to fight on, to prove that they were strong.

Across the room two more humans were in tears, collapsed on the floor and hugged one another. "Maybe if we started looking at what's the same, instead of always looking at what's different, well who knows…?" An oddly philosophical Meowth spoke with his clone.

Above their heads the fighting became more heated, Subject 663 and Mewtwo becoming more heated and competitive as they fought, beginning to wonder who exactly was the stronger of the two, Mew's part in the fight had become minimal, the little Pokémon seeing how wrong it was to fight this way.

The red orb of energy managed to smash the blue one down near the floor of the hall. Subject 663 hovered down to join Mewtwo by the ground. The two began charging their own Psystrike attack, what looked like flames engulfed their bodies, 663's of brightest red, Mewtwo's of blue.

She rolled her shoulders and shifted her hands, motioning to push the energy away from her body. Mewtwo shot his own energy at her. The pulsating streams of energy hurtled at one another faster than a runaway locomotive. But something caught 663's attention, a boy, that human boy running. Running towards their battle, yelling something she could not hear. He sped right in-between the strongest attacks of the two battling Pokémon, taking the full force of both the attacks at once.

For a second he remained standing, but in slow-motion fell to his knees, and then on his face. The energy was glowing around him, his body unable to take the force of its persistence. His skin hardened, turning into what resembled stone, his life effectively ended.

663 dropped her arms, looking down in horror, what had this human hoped to achieve? He had willingly leapt between them, wasting his own life so that their battle would cease. "Fool, trying to stop our battle..." Even Mewtwo sounded shocked at this human's actions. 663 watched with something welling in her heart, as his Pikachu ran to his idea, tapping his unmoving face in the attempt to wake him. When it got no response, the Pokémon tried shocking its trainer awake.

663 wished to comfort the distressed Pokémon, but knowing that she had caused its suffering held her back, she did not wish to approach the pained Pikachu knowing what she had done. Shock after shock, but the boy was gone from this world. The Pokémon stood by his side with nothing more to do than cry.

The hopelessness and sorrow that swallowed this Pokémon spread through the others like wildfire. Each Pokémon, clone or not, felt the pain of this Pikachu who had lost his best friend. None of them could prevent tears from rolling down their own faces as they observed the scene before them. Even 663 herself felt as if her emotions would betray her, she had never expected the death of a human to resonate so fully with her, after everything humankind had put her through she was still crying at the death of this boy? Was she? … Yes, she was crying. She felt her cheek with the tip of one of her paw-like fingers, the wetness there betraying the tears which had silently crept from her eyes.

Something strange happened at that point, all the tears from the Pokémon seemed to spiral in streams towards this boy, they glimmered like stars once they reached him, a mystic light that was brand new to Mewtwo and 663. The light seemed to glow through him, restoring his body to the way it had been before their attacks had smashed into him. The first thing he said once his eyes opened was "Pikachu?" and his partner welcomed him back into the land of the living with an emotional embrace.

This strange event confused 663; she had assumed that once dead, things tended to stay dead. But this boy had sacrificed himself so that the fighting would end and realization would hit those who wished to battle. She shrugged, perhaps a human like that deserved a second chance at life. When the column of reviving energy had faded, Mewtwo's storm had faded along with it.

"A human sacrificed himself to save the Pokémon. I pitted them against each other, but it was not until they set aside their differences did I see the power they all shared deep inside." Mew hovered by the side of Mewtwo, mewing his agreement with what the clone said. "I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant, it is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are."

All the clones began rising into the air, lifted by Mewtwo's psychic powers. 663 used the same power to lift her six friends into the air, Arcanine, Ninetales, Rapidash, Jolteon, Flareon and Vaporeon - who had not known how to aid the prior situation at all - rose up alongside her and she departed with Mewtwo. Mew swooped up beside 663 and Mewtwo.

"Mewtwo, where are you going?" The raven-haired boy called up to the departing Pokémon.

"Where my heart can learn what yours knows so well. What transpired here I will always remember, but perhaps for you these events are best left forgotten." 663 combined her power with Mewtwo's own so that they could wipe the memories of every person and Pokémon, sending them all back to where they had been before reaching the island.

A/N: I was re-watching the first movie while writing this, and no matter how hard I tried, I could not get it right! The emotional moment in that movie just CAN'T be recreated! Or at least, not by the limited writing talents of IrisCode xD

PhantomGalaxy13: I have a lot of spare time to write with. However, if you look at the quality/quantity gap between your writing and my own, you can see why it takes you longer to write than me. As your way of writing is much more informative than mine and paints a vivid picture of the scene. Mine leaves a lot to the imagination while i throw a scene at the reader. Sapphire and Garnet, in the future, will eventually become friends I believe... but there will definately be many peaks and dips in their friendship as Garet is not he easiest person to get along with. Thank you so much for commenting on the last chapter! -Iris
