How does magic even work? Chapter 17.

I guess I should make sure you all know that I don't own either Fairy tail or Naruto. If you thought I did then.. thanks for thinking I'm successful I guess.

With a shaking hand Naruto accepted a cup of tea and took a noisy sip from it, before putting the cup down on the small table in front of him. He awkwardly looked around the large room they were in, he was unsure of when he had been brought here. He must have had a blackout or something.

Then he became awfully aware of the pair sitting opposite of him.

One of them was the girl that had tried to steal his sword, a few hours earlier, her name was Tenten. The other was a Woman who looked to be in her late twenties, she was not wearing a shirt but her chest, neck and half her face was covered by bandages. It was this worlds version of Zabuza. She calmly moved the bandages covering her mouth slightly out of the way before taking a sip of tea herself.

Then she again calmly placed the cup down on the table. With a quiet sigh she gracefully placed her hands under the edge of the table... and proceeded to violently flip it out of the way ''JUST TELL ME WHERE YOU GOT THE FUCKING SWORD ALREADY!''

With lightning speed she grabbed Naruto, who had tried to make a break for it as soon as she put the cup down, and lifted him up in front of her.

''waitwaitwaitwait!'' Naruto yelled frantically before being punched in the side by a very happy looking Tenten. He sputtered for a while before turning his attention to the younger girl ''The hell'd ya do that for!?''

Zabuza gave the girl a scathing look as well ''Seriously Tenten why would you do that?''

Tenten looked confused ''huh? I thought we were interrogating him''

It was quiet for a moment, before Zabuza spoke again ''Well we are... but I mean.'' she sighed and put Naruto down ''That was a bit unnecessary-. Don't move kid, you're not leaving until you explain that'' Naruto's escape attempt was stopped before it began.

She turned back to Tenten and continued ''You see, this kid can't run just up and run from me, so there is no reason to beat him up.. YET!'' she added loudly and Naruto stopped trying to tiptoe over to the giant sword. She once again gave him her full attention ''Look kid, people know not to come out to this house so anyone coming here to help you is unlikely. SO... tell me where you got THIS'' She effortlessly picked the sword up held it up in front of him ''And then I will let you go.''

Naruto's mind was working overtime trying to come up with anything he could tell her that did not involve the words 'I killed you in another world'. That would get him into more trouble than he ever wanted to be in again. But then what to say? After a few seconds he got a brilliant idea.

''You gave it to me... in edola-gaah!''

''Fucks sake! Tenten I told you not to hit him yet!''

''Well he's saying stupid stuff! You never give anyone anything!''

''Wha? YES I DO! Sometimes... whatever just shut up and go to the warehouse and sharpen a knife or something!''

''huh!? But I wanna know where he got the sword too!''

''You keep interrupting! Just go!... NOT YOU KID, YOU STAY! TENTEN GO!''

The situation slowly resolved shortly after the shouting, it concluded with Tenten getting to stay as long as she kept to one side of the room while Zabuza and Naruto talked in the other.

When it had all calmed down enough Naruto began weaving a slightly different story than the one he had told his guildmates after their return from Edolas. ''I guess this is hard to believe but me and the people from my guild were sort of... sucked into another dimension. It's uh, called Edolas.''

He slowly retold the part about him meeting his alternate self, and then later about how the two of them started working with the assassins of Edolas to take down the mad king. Then he finished the story with ''So then we started floating into the sky and Edolas Zabuza gave me the sword and told me that I had earned it.''

Naruto mentally patted himself on the back, he felt like he had done pretty well. There was no way she would see through his story. He ignored Tenten who gave of a laugh over in her corner, in favor of trying to figure out what Zabuza was thinking.

After a few seconds she looked him straight in the eyes and asked ''So how did you kill him?''

Naruto froze for a second but that was all she needed to see. ''So you did huh. But really, there no way any version of me would give up the Kubikiribochou just like that. You think I believe in fairy tales or something?''

She ignored Naruto's sputtered excuses and quietly mused to herself ''Wonder if the other me was some sort of weakling... injured maybe.'' She noticed Naruto's panicked state and decided to calm him down ''Kid stop freaking out, I'm not mad about you killing some other me... unless someone else killed me and you swooped in just to take the sword.''

Naruto felt his spine tingle when the Zabuza in front of him let out some blood lust, it was way too familiar. ''N-n-no... it was... I killed him.''

After he said it he started feeling guilty about it again, but just as he was about to start reassuring himself that he had no reason to feel guilty Zabuza said ''Well good, I hate people who don't follow the traditional rules set for these things.'' Then she looked over at the sword before turning back to him. ''You know, you should just leave that with me for a few years. You're way too short to use it properly.''

Naruto silently stared at her for a few seconds, stuck in swirl of anger, acceptance, sadness and fear.

Eventually anger won out ''Hey screw you! My height is totally average for my age!''

He couldn't really tell but Zabuza seemed to be smirking as she said ''Yeah if you're 8 years old.'' She had no trouble guarding against Naruto's attempts at punching her ''Just calm down and listen to me for a while will you?''

Naruto didn't listen so she put him in a headlock and waited for him to stop fighting. When he finally did she continued. ''Kid you can't deny that the sword is too big for you. So what I'm saying is let me take care of it until you are big enough for it.''

Naruto huffed in her grip before sourly saying ''Why should I? Even if it's a bit too big for me I can still carry it with me and get used to it.''

Naruto felt Zabuza sigh ''Idiot... Tenten recognized the sword you have, that's why she tried to stop you... you get that right?'' Naruto only grunted so she continued ''Having that sword means putting yourself in danger, there are a lot of bad people that want one of those and unfortunately for you, most of them are way stronger than you are.''

''Also... if you leave it here I could teach you how to use it properly.'' She paused as Naruto suddenly wormed out of her grip and jumped away from her.

He gave her disbelieving look ''Why would you do that? I just told you that I literally killed you in another world!''

Zabuza laughed loudly and Naruto flinched as she suddenly stood up. ''That's exactly why kid! You KILLED me! That means you have some serous potential, or at least some outrageous luck! One way or another you can be useful to me!''

Naruto didn't like the way her eye's were starting to look crazy as she practically started yelling ''You see kid I have an ambition! I want to kill that monster that is master of The red mist Guild! But he is STRONG! Way too strong! That's why I need pawns, TOOLS that can help me fight him! And with a second Blood demon sword there is no way I could lo-''

''Zabuza your fetish for young kids is so weird~~'' Tenten suddenly interjected from her corner with a bored look.

Naruto's mind went blank, while he didn't know what a fetish was, he could tell it was something embarrassing from how red the visible parts of Zabuza's face suddenly were. Then she started stuttering ''eh-what the h-hell are you talking a-about Tenten?!'' What happened to all that tension just now!?

Tenten just pouted in her corner and went on petulantly ''You said all of that stupid stuff to me too when we met remember? Now you barely even train me. You just want me to join you in the bath when you're here.''

Again Zabuza started sputtering something and Naruto who stood to the side decided to voice his opinion. ''What? So you're just some pervy old lady or something?''

Suddenly he was pinned against a wall by Zabuza who had an almost teary eyed look now ''D-d-don't be m-mistaken, it's not like that! I... I-i-i just like to have some company when I get in bath!''

''Bad touch~~~''

''T-Tenten shut up! You know it's not like that! And kid the hell'dya mean 'old lady' I'm 19!''

Naruto stayed silent for a few seconds and gave Zabuza a blank look ''I-I'm not lying...'' she continued.

It took several minutes but finally they all calmed down and after putting the table back up they sat down around it.

Naruto seriously considered what Zabuza had told him, leaving the sword here and coming back when he could actually use it. But he had other options ''You know Zabuza.. I could just leave the sword at my guild and have Erza teach me how to use it.''

Zabuza gave him an intense stare for a few seconds ''Could you call me Momo instead of Zabuza? I don't really like that name.''

Naruto sighed and just he was about to ask again Zabuza cut him off ''Momo... call me Momo.''

''f-.. fine.. Momo.'' He sighed deeply when she gave him a really smug look all of a sudden. ''Whatever! Look! I'm a member of Fairy tail alright! Erza has been teaching me how to use swords and stuff for a while. Why shouldn't I just go to her and ask her to teach me?''

Zabuza still looking really smug said ''Well if you're talking about Erza Scarlet then you shouldn't bother. I fought her once and her handling of ultra great swords is just pathetic.'' Naruto was surprised by that, not that Zabuza had met Erza but by the fact that she was actually bad with one type of weapon.

''She just jumped around like an idiot and spun like a whirlwind, she had no idea how to use it efficiently. And when I outclassed her she thought taking another one out would solve her problems. Such a fool.'' after that she muttered about how she only lost the fight because Erza cheated. Something about how enchanted armors and throwing swords at her with telepathy was a dumb way to win.

Naruto was at a bit off a loss, if she was telling the truth then Erza couldn't actually teach him how to use it properly. ''By the way, I am the only person in the world that actually has any experience fighting with the Kubikiribochou.'' Zabuza put the final nail in the coffin.

''Fine.'' Naruto finally consented. ''But you said I can't use it yet right? What do you want me to do until then?''

''… You could stay here an-''

''No way!''

Zabuza pouted and huffed to herself ''Well you'll need to be at least around my height to swing the blade around properly. You should swing by here every now and then so I can teach you training methods and footwork... you listening?''

Naruto was contemplating height, Zabuza was more than a head taller than him even if he stood on his toes. How long would he have to wait until he was the right height to use it?

''Anyways for now the best you can do is training your stamina and strength so you can keep up when it's time to learn.''

He glanced at the sword and sighed then he gave a tired look to Zabuza and lastly Tenten ''Well... I guess it's time to go.'' he said and stood up to look for his bag.

''Already? You should stay for lunch or something... actually what's your name kid? I didn't ask before.''

The boy who had just found his backpack turned to her for a second before walking to the door ''Nah I wanna leave, and my name is Naruto.'' and with that he left.

Naruto stood before the doors of the massive tower that served as a library, he still couldn't believe the size of the thing. It looked like it reached over the clouds. As he walked over to the giant doors he thought about how easy it had been to get here. It had only taken four days on foot, and there hadn't been a single monster or animal on the roads.

If walking wasn't so boring he would be doing it a lot more often when he needed to go places.

When he came into the library he stopped to take in the sight, the middle of the tower's ground floor was almost completely empty other than a lonely desk. But the walls were lined with fully stocked bookcases, and when he tilted his head back he realized It was probably like that the entire way up into the sky.

When he was done taking in the sights he began looking around only to find that there didn't seem to be any people around. Since the only thing on the ground floor was the desk in the middle he decided to go to it.

On it he found several notes, the one at the top of the pile said 'currently fetching books from the upper levels. Should be back in a few hours. PS. Makarow Dreyar or Member of fairy tail, the books and documents you requested can be found on floor 40, 63 and 78. please get them for yourselves. I've marked them appropriately.'

After that there was some things that he didn't bother reading, in favor of looking over at the spiraling staircase that lined the walls upwards in the tower. Levels 40, 63 and 78, he reminded himself and started walking up, it probably wouldn't take too long.

Or so he thought as he reached level 40 and wiped the sweat of his forehead, walking up this tower was almost as bad as jogging up the mountain in Magnolia. After taking a moment to catch his breath he looked around for the book that was mentioned on the note.

He had to walk around and look for a while before he noticed a small scrap of paper hanging out from a bookcase. On it was the Fairy tail emblem. Naruto let out an angry growl as he pulled the book out of it's place, why the hell would the library guy leave the tiniest little note to mark the book he needed. Then he let out a deep sigh, the other two books would be this hard to find as well.

He glanced at the book and then put it in his backpack, he thought it would be best to just grab all the books and then go to Crocus and get a hotel room to read in.

As soon as he got to floor 63 he sat down to catch his breath, he looked over the edge of the walkways that lined the walls and whistled. Other than the occasional walkway that crossed the middle of the tower it was just a sheer drop all the way down.

After taking some time to catch his breath he started looking for the next book. This one was harder to find but eventually he saw the little note sticking out from a bookcase. Though as he slowly pried the book out some other books came out with it.

He looked around nervously but was reminded that he was pretty much alone in the library, so he quickly started putting the books back in their place.

Then as he picked a book up he noticed it's title 'Master the art of transformation in 200 pages or less.' He paused with the book in hand. Transformation.

He took another look around to confirm that he was alone and then slipped the book into his bag, then quickly put the other books in their place. Lastly he took the second book and slipped it into his bag. It was starting to get heavy but since it was only one book left he decided to tough it out and keep going up.

His legs really hurt when he finally got to floor 78, he was starting to loose his good mood so he started looking for the last book directly. After a few minutes of going back and forth he found it and just instantly shoved it into his pack.

The he stopped completely and looked at the winding path back down. He sat down and chuckled to himself, he didn't even think about the fact that he had to get back down again. He slowly walked over to the edge and frowned. Just jumping down would save a lot of time, he'd die of course but maybe that was better than spending three hours walking down.

''Wait, is dying actually better than walking all the way down?'' Naruto mused to himself, think hard about his options.

''Wait goddammit how stupid am I!'' Naruto suddenly yelled as he realized something. He took a few steps back and looked at the closest light source. It was a small crystal sitting in a little holder, they were everywhere in the tower and always lit up as soon as he came close to them. He walked over and put his hand over it, and looked around as it became much darker.

''Oblivion..'' he whispered and took control of the black mist that started forming around him. Then he started forming it into a big pair of wings on his back. Unfortunately he had never actually tried using this before, and his lack of control only allowed him to have them hardened in one position.

When he felt that the wings were large enough he walked back over to the edge and looked down. About three floors down was a crosswalk so he aimed to land in the middle of it. Then he leaned forward slight... then he leaned back.

He took a deep breath and then leaned forward again ''okay... one... two... three!'' he dove out into the air, and with almost no control over his decent crashed into the walkway.

He groaned in pay as he got up, nothing broken other than his pride. He glanced at the wings, and though over what was wrong, it was most likely the fact that he couldn't move the wings that was the problem.

He glanced down to the next crosswalk, the next one was probably a little more than five floors down. After a few moments of thinking he laughed to himself, gliding was way more fun than walking, and he got to try out a new way to use him magic as well.

He got up and repositioned so it would be easier to land on the next crosswalk ''One.. two.. THREE!'' again he dove into the air and glided downwards.

Naruto eventually landed on the ground floor and rolled to his feet quickly. His clothes were sweaty and torn in some places but he had a big smile on his slightly bruised face. On his way down he figured out what his REAL next goal would be. And that was to figure out how to use his magic to fly.

Then his stomach loudly rumbled, reminding him of the fact that he hadn't actually had anything to eat yet. He quickly decided it to be best to take care of that before thinking about anything hard and left the library.

Omake

Naruto opened the doors to exit the grand library tower and froze as soon as he came out.

Before him stood Zabuza, the earthland version, however one thing was not quite right about it. She had changed from her camouflage pattern pants into an ankle length skirt. Yet she still had a bare upper body only covered by bandages.

Naruto silently stared at her for a few awkward moments before sighing and just attempting to walk around her.

That plan failed quickly as she suddenly reached out and harshly grabbed his shoulder ''Don't you fuck'in ignore me bra-'' she stopped and cleared her throat for a moment then in a high pitched girly voice adressed him again.

''I came to see you Naruto-kun.''

''…''

''…''

''… I came to see yo-''

''STOP! STOP ALL OF THIS!''

''No need to yell Naruto-kun.''

''NO! You stop that creepy shit right now!''

''please accept my womanly side as well nar- HEY! Dont run away from me idiot!''

Naruto bolted. It was all he could do...
