Italics: meaning of code. You'll understand in a moment. I do not own MR.
Chapter five: Fang
"Not your greatest first day, huh?" I winced slightly as Lissa jerked my nose back into place. She then started applying some kind of salve to my face and other bodily injuries. It's the end of the day, and I had spent all eight hours of the school day passed out in the nurse's office.
"Blame Igiot. His dumbass decided to provoke that group the target is the fucking leader of!" I yelled the last part so that Iggy could hear me.
"I said I was sorry! I didn't know that was her!" he yelled back from the kitchen.
"Igiot," I sighed.
"Alright, you should be good for tomorrow. Just let the salve do its job tonight," the redhead replied.
"Thanks." She nodded and put away her medical supplies. It's useful having a medical assassin on your team, you know? I felt a vibration in my pocket and answered the phone. "Hey, Mom. I'm home." Talking in code here people.
Neighbors are awake and are being way too quiet for me to talk freely.
"Hey, honey. So am I."
SND may have bugged me again.
"My day didn't go as planned today."
"Oh yeah? How so?" Lissa went into the kitchen to give me some privacy. Most assassins hate listening to me and my mother while we code talk. It gets confusing if you haven't listened to us before. Which most people haven't.
"All of my classes were such a breeze that I didn't stay awake during them. Especially after meeting the student council leader and her posse. They're dynamite."
I was unconscious all day after an encounter with the target and her crew. They're more dangerous than we thought.
"Harder to settle down than you believed?"
Is she going to be a bigger threat than we originally believed?
"Nah, I can handle it. James, Kate, and I will be ahead of the game in no time."
No, I was just set back in a very minor way. Iggy, Lissa, and I will have her dead in no time.
"Well, have fun in school. Call soon."
Finish her off quickly and come back immediately after.
"I hear you."
I will.
We said our goodbyes before hanging up. I sighed and got up to see what Iggy was cooking. Being an assassin is hard work. I need food.
~The Next Day~
"Mr. Martinez, please take a seat in the back. Ms. Ride, please raise your hand so that Nick can see you." I mentally scowled when I heard her name. This will not end well.
"I'd rather not. I think his one and only good eye is good enough to guide him to the only remaining seat in this classroom," she remarked. 'The profile forgot to mention snarky in her personality,' I thought as I walked to her and sat down in the chair.
"Today, we will be talking about the scientific method," the teacher said in the front of the class. Already bored, I glanced at Max. She was doodling in the margins of her notebook. Closer inspection said the drawing was of a gun. Firing at me.
"Interesting way to pass time," I muttered to her.
"Interesting response to my imagination."
"I think we got off on the wrong foot yesterday. I'm Nick."
"I think I'm not interested." 'I see the stubbornness in her now. Though it could just be her being hateful.'
"Ride, eh? Gossip only mentions one Ride female that is associated with the terrifying Flock. Max Ride. I'm guessing that has to be you."
"I'm guessing you just stopped riding the short bus, huh?" 'Annoying.'
"Your reputation is incredible."
"I thought emos and Goths have a reputation of not speaking to normal people?" 'And a class A bitch. I have my work cut out for me.' I racked my brain for anything that could catch her attention.
"I could beat you." There we go! The pencil stopped!
Ooo, what did he mean by he could beat her?! I guess you would have to find out next time!
