Chapter 9
Bella
I gripped the table top tightly and stared down at my plate.
"Bella? How do you know Bella?" Alice asked softly.
I felt Edward slip into the booth and rest his leg against thigh. I could feel his hard gaze on me.
"We're old friends," his voice spat out coldly.
I winced and closed my eyes.
"Do you...you don't owe my brother money, do you?" Alice whispered. I snapped my eyes to her.
"What? Of course not!" I screached. I lowered my voice when the other patrons looked around at us. "Why would you say that?" I turned my gaze to Edward. "Do you make a habit of stalking people?" I spat.
His eyes were cold. "You're not a hard person to find. If you were going to run, you should've hid your tracks."
"So you illegally stalked me," I growled.
"Just a drop in the bucket, sweetie. You just up and left. How was I to know you weren't some undercover agent trying to get to me? Shit, you're a cop's daughter, it wouldn't surprise me."
"You had..." I looked around once more to see if people were listening to us. "You had a gun and you had just beat my boyfriend up a few hours before that."
"You didn't seem to mind when I was balls deep in your pussy." He sneered. The waitress brought him a glass of whiskey. She smiled at him and I wanted to rip her down to the table by her throat.
"Edward! Language!" Alice hissed.
"Stay out of this Alice." He turned to stare at me once more. "What? Your daddy have you infilitrate Alice too? This is fucking bullshit. You had it all planned didn't you? Fucking act like a damsel and pick me up, fuck me and get me when I'm weak. Then, you fucking find Alice and befriend her?"
My hand connected to his cheek before I thought about it and he grabbed my wrist when I withdrew. His eyes were murderous and his eyes hard. Alice let out a gasp.
"Don't. Fucking. Hit. Me." He growled.
I glared at him. "How dare you come in here and insult me. I have no fucking clue what you're talking about. I met Alice at work. She came in to buy a car. I came here to live with my parents because I had no where else to go!" I struggled to withdraw my wrist from him but he held tighter.
"Edward, you're hurting her. Let her go." Alice placed her hand across the table and he let my wrist go. The waitress approached again and asked him if he'd like anything. Whatever he said made her smile and she left the table. He turned to look at me once more.
"You're a cop's daughter." He sneered.
"I'm sorry? I'll make sure to reveal that to the next man who comes up and beats my boyfriend up." I rolled my eyes sarcastically and stabbed at my food. The waitress brought out three heaping plates of food and sat them on the table. Edward stabbed at his food with his fork.
Alice looked between us and rubbed her temple. "Bella, I'm so sorry."
I shrugged.
"She all ready fucked me," Edward replied with food in his mouth.
"And that's what I'm sorry about," she smiled softly.
I cleared my throat and grabbed my purse. "Alice, it was nice meeting you. But, I'm afraid I have to go." I gave her a weak smile and stood up, only to be brought back down to the booth by rough hands.
"You're not going anywhere, Princess." Edward kept his hand clamped to my thigh and continued eating.
"Excuse me? I'm a grown woman. I think I can control myself and where I go."
He chuckled and shook his head. "No. Anyway, where were we? I purely came down here intending to first find you, fuck your brains out and leave you like you did with me. But, I found out that that wasn't a smart idea. It wasn't smart in the first place to get involved with you. So, in response to pissing me the fuck off and lying to me, you owe me." He leaned back in the booth.
"Owe you? Lied to you? Are you out of your mind?" I whispered. Alice looked down at her hands in her lap.
"Failing to mention falls into lying in my line of work," he replied and took another bite of his food.
"You haven't worked a day in your life!" I spat out harshly.
He turned his head towards me. "Just because I don't flip burgers or do hard labor, doesn't mean I don't work. I'm not some gun toting thug you see in the movies. Yeah, I have many firearms. I have nice suits. But I do run a legitimate real estate and landscaping business out of Seattle. I just built a condominium that has almost sold out of apartments. Just because some of my money isn't clean, doesn't mean it's all dirty."
His eyes were fierce and penetrating and I wanted nothing more than to drown in them. I was a lamb to slaughter.
"You kill people." I whispered.
"Have I killed you?" He asked.
I shook my head. "That doesn't mean you haven't or that you don't."
He smirked. "There are no concrete facts or evidence."
I looked over at Alice. "Look, Edward. I made a lapse in judgement sleeping with you and having any sort of relationship with Jacob. I'm not some crazy informant for the FBI like you insist and honestly just freaked out. Yeah, I'm a cops daughter and I saw a man toting a gun and it made me a little sick. I ran. What normal female wouldn't after what had happened to her? But, I came here for a new slate. I really don't want anymore drama in my life or anything to do with you at this point. So, can we just forget about all of this?"
"You think it's that easy?" He whispered.
My hair stood on end. "You don't believe me?"
He shook his head. "I didn't say that. But, you're involved now."
"I can be uninvolved?" I whispered weakly.
He chuckled. "No. You can't." He slapped two bills down on the table and got up.
"Have a good evening ladies. And Isabella?" He caught my eye. "I'll be in contact."
