Chapter 5

Seattle's Best Coffee

Staring down in to the eyes of none other then Carlos Rodriguez made Phoebe's skin crawl with anticipation.

"W-Why is it awkward." She grumbles, the bright flush returning to her cheeks once more. She was unsure of how to handle this situation. Should she laugh it off and pretend it was only a joke? Or would the smarter option be to come clean and tell him flat out she was interested in him. She didn't get the chance to answer before Carlos was waving over a waitress and ordering his own coffee and asking her if she had ordered or not. "Yeah I ordered a little bit ago.." She admits and watches as Carlos gives the waitress a charming smile and a wink. Who knew the guy can flirt.

"Its Awkward because here I am running late and your already burying your head into school work." Carlos says and leaned forward, planning to read the paper over her shoulder. "What are you reading?" He asks and acting fast, Phoebe shoves the contract into her purse.

"Nothing you need to know." She says lightly, trying to play it off as flirting. Thankfully Carlos falls for it and lets that flirtatious grin from before return to his face.

"I see..." He drawls and rests his chin on his hand, his eyes gazing over her as if he were examining a new flavor of ice cream. "So you never did tell me why you came back to Seattle. Was the cute country house not busy enough for you?" He teased and Phoebe managed a short laugh.

"Something like that." She purred and looks up just in time as their coffee was being delivered. Wrapping her small hands around the warm mug, She took a deep sip and sighed in relief at the fortifying taste. "I did miss Seattle's coffee. Best I've ever hand." She admits and Carlos shrugs in response.

"I don't really see the difference. Coffee is coffee." He says with a half heated shrug. Phoebe rolls her eyes to this and smirks teasingly.

"That's just because you have no taste." and with that, the two of them enjoyed their coffee together, chatting about old times and fond childhood memories. During this time, Phoebe hadn't realized how much she had missed her old childhood friend, and it made her happy to know he felt the same. They spent the next hour or so like that, going through another round of coffee and several sweets. So much for her dinner. As Carlos sits back in his chair, nibbling on his second banana nut muffin, He decided to pop the question now since they both seem to be blissfully filled on sweets and caffeine.

"So, when you left to come to Seattle University, did you have to leave behind any broken hearts?" He asks, his subtle way of trying to figure out if she was taken. Phoebe of course recognized this and jumped at the chance.

"Oh you know, just my father and Taylor. The two of them looked about ready to burst in tears." She says and they both burst into another giggle fit. She seemed to find herself laughing a lot around him. Carlos has this very charming atmosphere around him, and Phoebe is finding it harder and harder to ignore. "If you'll excuse me." Phoebe says with a soft smile and quickly made her way to the bathroom to get cleaned up. The things Carlos Rodriguez did to her made her want him only that much more.

Back at the table, Carlos watches Phoebe rush off to the bathroom before letting out a sigh of relief. 'She is one hell of a women' He thought to himself before spotting the paper sticking out of her purse. He had seen her reading it when he came into the shop and almost ran out the back door when he saw it. Glancing around to make sure she wasn't nearby, Carlos casually slipped the paper from her bag and examined it himself. It was exactly what he thought it was. A contract for a BDSM relationship. Although Carlos knew little of the actual technicality of this type of relationship, just knowing that Phoebe had been carrying this around was enough to ignite his senses and hope. If this is what Phoebe wanted then Carlos would make damn well sure she would get what she wanted. However, he didn't want to push his luck tonight so he carefully slipped the contract back in to her purse and waited for her to return.

Returning from the bathroom, Phoebe was rewarded with a thousand watt smile from Carlos and a escort back to Escala. The two walked back arm and arm in silence. Just enjoying each others company and the nightly breeze. Sadly, their walk had to come to an end all to soon as the pair reached the entrance to Escala. Now that they actually reached her home, an uncomfortable silence grew over them as Phoebe shifted her weight from one leg to the other.

"So...tonight was fun." She said and gave Carlos a soft smile. "I had a lot of fun catching up..Maybe we can do it again sometime?" She asked, hope evident in her voice. With a reassuring smile, Carlos nodded.

"I look forward to it." He says as she steps onto the elevator. "I guess I'll see you around." Phoebe nods happily to him and smiles.

"Thank you, Carlos." She says and He grins back with a nod.

"Phoebe." He says right before the elevator doors shut, taking away his sight of the girl he is now determined to get at all costs.
