Chapter 12

.

It's too late. We can't escape in time, we won't make it.

The humans attacked us suddenly. How they figure out there were leaf tribes here was beyond me, all I knew was that something was wrong within my leaf tribes before all these happen.

The humans got us cornered, yet I could not do anything to protect my tribes.

I'm still too weak after healing Kanda Yuu.

"Hand over this specific leaf tribe and we'll leave you!" They shouted to us.

I was so happy, I could save my leaf tribes. Giving up on one leaf tribe to save the whole tribe, it was the best choice at that moment. Looking around me, my leaf tribes looked willing as well.

"Which do you want...?"

"That one. That one with golden eyes."

My heart skipped a beat for a while, but then I calmed myself down. There are tons of leaf tribes with golden eyes here.

"That one beside you. We want that one."

My eyes went wide, cold started spreading throughout my spine.

No way.

I could only beg that he was not beside me—

"...!"

No. Not him.

Anyone but him.

I pretended to be clueless of their choice and pushed another leaf tribe with golden eyes to them. They simply shook their heads and pointed to the one behind me.

"That one."

Slowly turning around, I met with his equally shocked face. He stared at me with such panic eyes, I guess I was doing the same as well.

"...Tyki."

He stared at me in shock, betrayal was visible in his eyes. As much as he did not want to step out, a flower's order is absolute to them. He took a step forward, and another. Soon, he stopped beside me, his eyes refusing to meet mine.

"Yes, yes. This one. We'll take this and the others can leave here unharmed."

"...I'm sorry." I apologized softly.

"Flower, it's okay! Humans will treat Tyki well!"

"Flower, we won't blame you for this!"

I looked up at my leaf tribes. They were all sad, but they were speaking the truth — they are not blaming me.

And Kanda Yuu... He who hid behind the tree as I told him to do so all the time, finally peeked his head out, staring at me in disbelieve. He mouthed some words and sent them to me through the wind.

"Are you really giving him up...?"

I'm not.

I will never give up on him.

So, stop looking at me like that, both of you.

I will not abandon you, Tyki, no matter what.

"...I'm sorry!"

Everything happened so fast, I guess none of them thought I would act like that.

I grabbed Tyki by his arm and —

— Ran away from my tribes.

Lavi stared at the records before him furiously.

What in the world do they meant by "missing leaf tribes"?

How can leaf tribes went missing in the tribe with the presence of a flower, oh scratch that, two flowers?! Leaf tribes can't leave their flower for too long! Yeah, they are that weak, but hey, at least they are all better than average leaf tribes that can't even use magic.

Right, back to the main question : How does leaf tribes goes missing in the tribe?

Did they lose their way back when going out hunting for food? Or were they caught by humans on their way back to the tribe?

Canceling away option two in his mind, Lavi gripped onto his pen tighter. What kind of idiot loses their way back home?!

"...Lavi?"

Glancing at the direction of the timid voice, he saw the green-haired leaf tribe outside, staring at him with a worried look.

"Oh, hey Leenalee."

"It's not that bad, is it...?"

Almost immediately, he threw the papers on his desk to the female before yelling out in frustration, "Ten more missing leaf tribes today! How can this be any good?!"

Ten? Leenalee gasped. She knew that leaf tribes had been missing these days but she never thought it would be... that many. Including the ten Lavi mentioned, there will be a total of hundred of leaf tribes gone missing.

Lavi inhaled slowly, calming himself down as he did so. "... How are our flowers doing?"

"Kanda's comforting our white flower now. Seems like Allen blame himself for being not strong enough to keep leaf tribes here."

A sighed escaped from Lavi's lips, "and Neah?"

"..."

"... What now?"

"He's... kind of weird nowadays."

"...Allen really did hit his spot hard huh...?"

After that day Allen learned about "death" from Neah, Neah had been acting weird. He would stare at the moon silently at night, sometimes reaching his hands out and yelling out something in anger. No one could hear what Neah yelled, he blocked his voice from everyone.

"... I'll try talking to Neah... Cheer Allen up, will ya' Leenalee?"

I should have known!

Why would the humans asked for Tyki out of so many of us?

They planned it — they knew.

They knew about our relationship.

Or should I say...

My leaf tribes were the one that sell us out?

"Flower, get away from Tyki! He's filthy!"

You're the filthy one here!

"It's okay, flower. You don't have to kill him. We'll do it for you."

Do what?

"Neah — "

I thought I was their target, but I was wrong.

They were aiming for Tyki all along.

.

When a flower and a leaf tribe falls in love, the one to blame —

— is the leaf tribe.

.

How could I forget that?!

"No, Stop!"

None of them listened.

"Stop! As your flower, I'm ordering you — LET GO OF HIM!"

But they didn't.

.

.

.

.

.

They threw him in front of the humans, thanking them for their help.

No... How could you? How could you thank the humans?!

They'd weaken Tyki to state he was no longer fully conscious. It was only the matter of time before Tyki die.

.

I was your flower. I swore to protect you from any danger.

Have I done wrong?

Why are you killing my love one?

.

The humans killed my leaf tribes before me, leaving Tyki behind. Probably thinking that Tyki could not do any harm to them.

Screams were everywhere. They were all calling my name.

My eyes were only on Tyki.

I need to heal him quick. I need to —

Kanda Yuu? What are you —

No! Let go of me! Tyki, his wounds!

Let go already! I can't leave Tyki there. I must heal him. He still can live, as long as I heal him now —

"NEAH D CAMPBELL!"

No, don't stop me. I can heal him for sure. Quick, before the humans turn back here, bring me back to Tyki!

"...You knew it well, you can't, Neah."

Where are you dragging me? Stop! Tyki's going to, the humans will —

"...Neah?"

"I've heard."

"Huh?"

"The missing ones."

Lavi let out a large sigh and sat down beside Neah on the tree branch.

"What do you think about this, Neah?"

"..."

"Did anything like that happen in you tribes before?"

Neah shook his head, his eyes staring to ahead aimlessly.

"...You know, Allen did not mean to remind you of your past. He didn't know."

"It's not his fault."

"Then why? Why are you acting weird?"

Before Neah answered him, Lavi found the answer. At the direction Neah stared, there stood a male leaf tribe. Quick to catch the situation, Neah nodded dumbly at Lavi.

"... That's a great news! He's alive! You should be happy!"

"But he does not recognize me..."

"Maybe he er... lost his memories of something?"

"And he remembers nothing about me. He remember the death of the Eastern Leaf tribes, he remembered everything."

Finally removing his sight from the male leaf tribe, Neah turned to face Lavi.

"Everything but me."

Lavi could only stay silent at that statement.

I waited for so long.

My once leaf tribes, their corpse were all around me but I don't mind.

You are bonded to me, so even after death, you will come to me.

I believe you will.

Night overtook the day, yet another day passed.

How long had I sat here, surrounded by my once leaf tribes, waiting for your return?

I counted, it had been 8760 hours and 45 minutes.

Why are you not back yet?

I waited.

Patiently, I waited for another 8760 hours.

But you never return.

"...Haha..."

I did not want to accept this, not like this.

It's painful enough that I lose you, I don't want to acknowledge this.

"Hahaha...Hahahahaha!"

Was I... the only one loving you? Was it one-sided all along?

.

Tyki, have you ever... loved me?
