A/N: I'm a terrible person. I've had this chapter written for a few weeks now and forgot to put it up. I'm so sorry guys. Next chapter will be up pronto and I'm sure you'll want it soon since last chapters cliffhanger doesn't even compare to this ;)*laughs evilly*
…
Before Jason had stepped into the warehouse he smelled something he knew all too well… Blood. He felt fear and anger crawl its way up his spine wanting to take control of him. If he let his emotions take over him, he could kill everyone here, even Piper if she wasn't already dead. No. He couldn't think like that. He would save Piper no matter the cost.
Jason stepped into the abandoned warehouse that Octavian oh so subtly hinted he was keeping Piper at. Very cliché he thought. Octavian took Piper as bait to get Jason just where he wanted him. Vulnerable.
It was quite, other than the cool, night wind bustling about outside. Jason could feel the wind as it moved in a rhythmic motion, but his dead heart began to pick up its pace as he moved further into the warehouse.
A figure grabbed him from behind, pinning his arms behind his back. Easily he began to break hold; he was much older than this newbie therefore stronger and smarter. But a soft voice broke him off, a voice that made his muscles become rigid and his heart stop. It was so soft and delicate that Jason might have missed it, but the terror with the slightest relief in the voice is what caught his attention.
"Jason…" she breathed quietly. Jason's vivid blue eyes perked up to the voice. Piper. Beads of sweat coated her forehead; her brown hair clung to her face nearly covering her beautiful eyes. He couldn't believe the sight before him because this was a new low for Octavian. She was balancing on a railing of a rafter at least 50 feet high. Jason tried to focus on her gorgeous eyes that were so alive, but tears fell furiously from her eyes. Jason could feel a little part of him break every time he saw a tear fall. He had to look away to save himself from going insane.
He searched the darkness for the scrawny blond vampire. As if he read his mind, Octavian emerged from the shadows directly below where Piper was left balancing.
"Octavian…" Jason roared; his voice filled with warning.
"Glad you could join us! You're just in time for a game called 'How long can Piper balance until she falls?' She's already been up there for," He dragged out the last word before continuing, "almost 3 minutes. Any slight movement and she's toast, or would a broken egg be more fitting for this situation?"
"Let. Her. Go." Jason said firmly. "Do whatever you want to me, just get her down unharmed."
Octavian pondered for a long time. So long, Jason began to lose his patience, but he didn't have a choice. One of his lackeys stood behind Piper, ready to give her a little nudge off if Jason caused trouble. Jason cursed.
"Tempting…" Octavian finally replied before waving for the lackey to let go. Jason stepped forward focusing on Piper. Their eyes met for a long moment causing the dread in his heart to feel heavier. He silently promised her once more that he would get her out of here.
Jason was so focused on his thoughts he hadn't noticed the lackey until he cuffed metal chains around his wrists. Jason whirled around knocking the vampire back into a stack of cardboard boxes. He jerked at the metal chains, but they didn't budge. His eyes followed the chains to a tall metal crane.
He turned back to Octavian, "What the hell?"
"Didn't you just say I could do whatever I want to you? Wasn't that the deal?" Octavian said puzzled.
"So you're letting Piper go?" Jason said, his heart lifting up in half-hearted hope.
"Not exactly…"
"You son of a bitch. Let her go or I swear to god I'll-"
"What? You'll kill me? Spare me the pleasure." Octavian snapped. Jason narrowed his eyes at Octavian, watching him carefully. Octavian stood just a few feet from Jason, a cynical smile spread across his face and he snapped his fingers.
The whole world seemed to slow down as the scene before him began to unfold. Piper's arms flung furiously trying to rebalance herself; the fight between life and death lasted another second before she fell off the rafter. At that moment, Jason didn't realize how brave Piper had been. She accepted what was happening; she accepted that he couldn't save her; that she would die; that he had failed her.
An ear splitting scream rang around him; he realized it was coming from him. Jason struggled against his bonds. No, he would save her. He had to save her. The chains creaked as the metal began to bend. He glanced at Octavian who was smiling cynically, but he closed his eyes and focused on the chains.
Come on… Come on. He pushed on.
Finally, the chains snapped, but that wasn't the only thing he heard. He heard a deafening crack. Fear crawled up his skin giving him goosebumps; he didn't want to open his eyes because a part of him, deep down, knew what happened. Slowly, he opened his eyes and what he saw played into his worst fears. Piper lay before him, her head to the side and blood, blood was everywhere.
Unknown fury radiated off of him; he had lost everything over and over again. His mom, his sister, and his first love. He fell for Piper in this last month over and over again and now he lost her, forever. Thunder and deafening winds stormed outside. Octavian's vampire lackeys looked around nervously. Jason let the anger and hatred build inside of him before letting it all out.
All the windows, high and low, busted a few at a time all around the warehouse. Then Jason disappeared. The lackeys watched around anxiously, unknowing of their fate. The few, low lights that hung from the ceiling ruptured; the only light that now shined through was the vigorous lightning that flashed around the warehouse. The walls shook and rocked from the angry winds that attacked it.
Jason hesitated with the first kill, but after that it became easier; he began to ease into the monster he really was. He ripped into the first lackey's chest pulling out his heart with his bare hand. He crumpled to the ground in a lifeless mess. Jason disappeared into the shadows before the other next to him could even notice.
The faint panicked yelled echoed through the darkness as the other vampire discovered his friend. Jason's sharp ears immediately picked up the hard thump of his footsteps has he ran for the door even through the lightning. Even with the lackey's inhuman speed, Jason was quicker. Before he could register what was happening, Jason ripped his head clear off. He savored the kill in a way that even scared Jason before he focused on his last target.
Slowly, he walked towards where Octavian stood with a sly grin on his face. He was going to wipe that smile of his face and then some.
"You feel that? That Pain? That Fury and Hatred? Savor it, because it's the last thing you'll ever feel." Octavian taunted.
Jason roared, flying straight towards him. Octavian met him halfway. Their hands clashed, both equal in strength.
"Did you know? She had such sweet, delicious blood… Oops, sometimes I don't think before I speak. But, I really couldn't help myself. Such a waste of good blood." He finished shaking his head as he turned his head towards Piper's battered body. Jason felt the little part of him that was still human snap. All that was left was a mix of rage and hate. All he could do was hate and be angry because if he stopped then the misery would come and take over.
Jason slammed Octavian into the concrete wall so hard that the concrete crack about the size of his body. He clasped a firm hand around his throat as he savored this feeling of near defeat. This near century long war between them would end, but it had cost Jason everything.
"Was it never enough? My family? And…"
"Reyna?" Octavian spat bitterly. Jason grip tightened. He didn't deserve to say her name. Octavian laughed resentfully. "I did her a favor, sending her to her grave."
Jason snarled ready to separate Octavian's head from his body when a hand separated him from Octavian. At first he thought he missed another lackey, but he faced a pair of sea green eyes that were soft and miserable. Jason felt another anger bubble inside of him; none of this would have happened if Percy hadn't done his job. Piper wouldn't be.. He couldn't even finish the thought. Jason directed his fury to Percy; he wrapped his hands around Percy's throat. He didn't struggle; he just watched Jason miserably.
He could feel Leo trying to pull him away, but his hands were locked onto Percy. All Jason could think about was how everything was his fault.
"Listen…" Percy said wistfully. Jason narrowed his eyes at him, thinking it was a trick of some sort so he didn't listen at first, but for some reason he finally did. He focused on the sounds around him. The steady rainfall outside the warehouse, the drops hitting against the roof; rolling lightning booming; soft cries of a girl that Jason was guessing was Annabeth, sobbing and calling out Piper's name softly between cries. Jason felt the anger crawl right back up his spine, but that final sound that he realized Percy was talking about boomed in his ears. He counted the heartbeats as he listened.
Realization settled over him. One by one he let go of Percy's neck and raced over to where Piper lay. Annabeth was holding her in her arms, bloody and wet from the rain. Her sobs softened when Jason settled on Piper's other side. He focused in on the extra heartbeat, silencing out the world because nothing else mattered.
The quick thumping of her heart starting pounding stronger and steadier. Jason couldn't believe what was happening; she was dead, her heart did stop, and now it was beating again. In Jason's world that only meant one thing, Piper was in transition for becoming a vampire.
….
"S-She's not dead." Jason whispered, barely audible. He kneeled down in front of Annabeth who was holding Piper. She looked up at Jason, tears running down her face.
"Technically, she was dead and now she's undead." Leo chimed in. Jason heard someone hit him.
He let out a soft laugh filled with joy and relief with tears to follow. He felt a weight lift off his chest. Jason moved stray hairs from Piper's face, consumed with questions.
How would Piper respond to being a vampire? Everyone was different, and not everyone can handle it.
"We need to get her out of here." Jason spoke up. "We'll need to get her cleaned up before she wakes up. "
"What about him?" Nico asks with his hands firmly placed around Octavian's neck.
"I'll take care of him. You guys-"
"No." Percy cut in. "You and Annabeth take Piper and get her cleaned up. We'll take care of this." He said in a serious deadpan voice. Jason nodded. Gently, he took Piper from Annabeth's arms, carrying her wedding style back to their apartment.
….
A/N: So? What'd you think? How do you think Piper will react to being a vampire? Will she still feel the same way about Jason? Hmm…
Also for those who are looking for some Percabeth I will be focusing on them later on in the story (They will have their own little story that takes place the same time as the Jasper story) which will focus on Luke coming back for Annabeth. Dun Dun Dunnnn…
