Was it worth the wait? Sorry for the ginormous delay. I have had the biggest writers block and lack of motivation. But otherwise, Enjoy!
…
It's been a few weeks since Piper's transformation. Most of the time between was a lot of eating and relaxing, with some slow introduction into society. Jason started at night then slowly moved towards the day. It's important not to force Piper out because she could react negatively to being outside, meaning she could try feeding on someone or seriously injure herself or someone else.
But today was a beautiful night, the stars didn't shine because of the bright city lights, but the sky was a pure, deep blue that made Piper feel alive again. Piper and Jason were just chilling out on Piper's couch with the show 'Supernatural' softly playing in the background. Jason admits she's doing well, but she still has a ways to go. Controlling your hunger is the hardest thing for a vampire, no matter the age, especially after drinking from the source, it's hard to stop. Piper unfortunately experienced it first hand after first waking up, which will make things complicated.
"Drinking from a person is the best for a vampire-"
"Why?" Piper interrupted curiously.
"Vampires don't have the ability to create blood like humans do, so we have to drink it to sustain our life. Otherwise, our veins will dry out and we turn to dust, a very slow and painful way to die, but drinking blood from the source gives you more nutrients then older blood will."
"And we crave blood when we need it? Like food or water?"
"Not necessarily. Just think about it like this. If you run a marathon, you need more food and water then if you were just sitting at home watching TV, right?"
"Yeah.."
"Same thing with vampires. If we use our powers a lot, or are out in the sun too much, we crave faster. It also can vary with emotions. Hunger can be tied to any strong emotions, like sadness, anger, frustration-"
"Do female vampires get 'periods'? Because if they do, kill me now. I don't want to go through that every month for the rest of eternity."
Jason laughed, "No. Vampires can't procreate, therefore female vampires do not experience periods."
"But vampires still have sex?"
"Yes. Lust can be a very strong trigger for hunger with vampires, so that's why many vampires can't have 'relations' with humans without outing themselves."
"But it still happens, right? Like Percy and Annabeth. I mean, they're doing fine."
"I haven't seen too many. The ones I do see, it usually ends up with the partner turning into a vampire or they die."
Piper's heart immediately dropped. Seeing the sad look on Pipers face, Jason corrected himself.
"No, no, no. Sorry I should explain that better. If a human was to die in the relationship with a vampire its by the vampire in the relationship. Usually because once the human finds out they reject them and so on. But, Percy would never do that even if Annabeth did hate him for what he is."
"Annabeth couldn't hate Percy. I mean, she could for some other reason, but not because he's a vampire. Annabeth doesn't judge on who you are, but what you do." Jason smiled. "So as long as Percy doesn't do anything stupid.."
Jason laughed. "I hope Annabeth has a high tolerance for stupidity."
…
Piper woke up to the steady beat of Jason's heart. Her head was resting on his shoulder with their feet tangled together. She loved laying like this because of the warm, comforting feeling she got from laying on his bare chest. She felt safe laying with him; especially after everything that happened, she needed to feel that. Jason was laying on his back with one arm around her waist and the other laying off to the side. Amazed with Jason's body, she lazily traced patterns along his chiseled chest.
It didn't take much time for him to wake up after that; Jason was a light sleeper. Piper felt the arm around her waist pull her closer as Jason began to stir. His eyes fluttered open before turning to Piper.
"Morning, Sparky" Piper said with a small smile.
"Mornin" Jason said as he rolled over, digging his head into a pillow, which caused the last bit to be muffled.
"Someone's tired."
"Someone kept me up all day." He said turning his head enough for her to see a joking glare.
"You loved it. Admit it. Admit that you enjoyed every minute of it."
"That's beside the point-"
"Ha! I knew you'd love Supernatural!" Piper said smugly.
"They're wayyyyy off on the vampires though."
"Not totally. They got one thing right." Jason looked at her questioningly. "They're all douchebags."
"Oh, that's how it is? Don't forget you're a douchebag too now."
"There is one good vampire in the show, so I guess some can be nice." Piper said with a smile.
"You're ridiculous." Jason said.
Piper leaned in and Jason met her halfway for a quick but passionate kiss.
"I know."
…
Today would be Piper's first day back at work. Since her transformation, she's taken a leave of absence; she told her boss that she got into a car accident so he gave her a few weeks off. Now back on the job, her boss put her as a hostess for now so she wouldn't have to lift anything. Little does he know that she's stronger than ever.
Jason and the gang promised to be there just in case there were any complications. Complications being Rick and his nasty group of friends. It was the only thing that really worried Jason.
The night started off slow, but quickly turned into a mess with nearly an hour weight time. Piper couldn't figure out why it was so busy tonight, but then she realized it was a Saturday night. Piper started getting constant glares and whining from impatient children and adults. One customer even tried picking a fight with Piper over a table.
"Excuse me!" Said some random lady as she approached the podium. She was dressed for a business party with some name brand, skin tight dress and diamond jewelry. Her dyed hair was pulled up into a golden clip that had more diamonds on them. Piper wondered why she was at this dump.
"How can I help you?" Piper asked politely.
"We have been waiting for over an hour. Why haven't we been seated?!"
"I'm sorry for the wait, but our staff is working as fast as they can to wait on every customer."
"But those people you just seated came after us and you seated them before us. Do you see a problem here?"
Piper hated rich people who were always use to getting there way when they want it. Coming from a rich family, she got treated like she was stuck up, which she hated. What Piper hated more was people that gave rich people a bad name.
"The party that was just seated was a couple who was only waiting on a table at the bar."
"So?"
"So you have a party of 8 and it takes longer to set up for a large group."
"Well that's your problem, you should have been prepared and you should have been ready by now. It's been over an hour!"
"There have been other customers that needed to be helped before you party because they were here before yours."
"I want a table now."
"Ma'am we cannot just kick people out because you want to be seated."
"Excuse me? I want to speak to a manager."
"A manager wouldn't be able to help much, besides, he's helping customers too, and so taking him away from his job would just make your weight longer."
"I. want. a. manager."
"How about you just leave?" Piper said putting all her frustration into her words.
The lady suddenly not angry, straightens with her eyes glazed over, turns and leaves. People instantly started whispering to each other about the confrontation. Piper could hear the whispers from 'How weird' to 'We should go somewhere else.' A hand full of other people began to follow behind the lady who Piper assumed was the other 7 in her party.
Piper blood started pumping as the nervousness began to build. Her mouth started to feel dry and her palms sweaty. She looked around franticly for a familiar face. Jason. Annabeth. Anyone who could help her calm down. And thank the lord someone did. Annabeth came up behind her and put a hand on her shoulder. But it was too late, Piper could hear the blood pumping in everyone who was around her's veins.
Annabeth quickly guided her through the crowd of tables and out the back door. Jason was waiting outside for them. Annabeth handed Piper over to Jason. Piper leaned onto Jason's chest.
"Hey, Hey, Hey. It's okay. Just take some deep breaths and the cravings will go away."
"I can't. I'm so thirst." Piper said shaking with hunger. "Why is this happening to me?!"
"When you get angry or upset for any reason it can cause you to start craving. Here," Jason pulled out a blood bag, "this will help calm you down. Try not to rely on blood to keep your cravings in check, but since you're new to all of this you'll need it.
Piper nodded before taking the bag of blood and drinking it. Slowly, with every sip, her heart beat steadied.
"Piper, that lady was a bitch. She needed to leave. You did the right thing." Annabeth jumped in, putting a hand on Piper's shoulder.
Piper nodded.
"Maybe you should take the rest of the night off." Jason suggested.
"No, No, it's okay. I have to work through this."
"Are you sure you're okay?"
With one last exhale, Piper gave Jason a small smile, "Yea, sorry if I made you worry."
Jason leaned in and kissed Piper's forehead. "It's all good, Pipes."
"We better get back before Joe (their manager) kills us." Annabeth warned.
"Oh hell, he'll have my head." Piper said as she started back inside the restaurant.
Piper tried sneaking through the kitchen to get back to the podium, but her manager caught her on her way out of the kitchen.
"Piper! Don't leave your post unless you have someone cover for you! You know better!"
"Sorry Joe, I had to use the bathroom." Piper said innocently.
"Alright, Alright, just get back to work, there's tables to seat!"
Piper saluted him before getting back to work.
The rest of the night went by pretty smoothly. Piper had to run around for a few minutes to catch up for lost time, but she caught up quick. A nice couple even complimented Piper for standing up for herself against the rude lady. After that, Piper felt a little... lighter and better. Nice people do exist.
Her night was going so much better until she saw Jason which is usually when her night is the best, but not tonight because as soon as she saw him she knew something was wrong. He looked distressed and worried which immediately made Piper's heart stop. She didn't know what to do so she stayed frozen in place with her heart beating erratically against her chest.
As soon as Jason reached the podium she asked, "What's wrong?"
"Annabeth's missing."
…..
Annabeth woke with a start, her vision and memory cloudy. As her vision cleared, Annabeth looked around to see where she was. She was lying in an elegant, red silk bed. The room itself was dimly lit but still bright enough that Annabeth could easily make her way out of it, but first she checked her surroundings. Nothing sharp or heavy enough for a weapon, just old paintings and ugly drapes on the walls. Her kidnapper was smart enough to put her in a room with no windows so the only route out was the door, which was probably guarded or locked. Annabeth slowly made her way towards the single door in the room. It was unlocked.
Annabeth peaked out. No one around but just down the hall was a set of stairs next to a balcony. As she made her way down the hall, Annabeth checked every room and everyone was locked. This house was obviously old, but well-kept with its old-fashioned style. But not a bought for $20 at a thrift shop 'vintage', this kind of home was one you would see in the Great Gatsby. Grand, Luxurious mansion that had more bathrooms than the people that lived in it. Then it clicked.
By the expensive, antique tastes of the home, Annabeth knew who her kidnapper was. Someone she knew all too well but hoped was out of her life.
She slowly made her way through the balcony and down the steps. Just to the right of the stairs was a grand living room with a familiar face sitting in the far corner of it. Annabeth froze for a second at the top of the stairs, but she swallowed her pride and made her descent down the steps. Sensing her presence, he rose. His bright blue eyes immediately clung to hers. As she made her way to the last step, he met her there with a warm smile on his face. Annabeth's heart clenched as she barely choked out his name.
"Luke…"
