Wide eyed, Tails the Fox slumped back against the wall next to his bed. Surely what he was reading couldn't be real, it must have been an elaborate hoax. It had taken him several days to get the data chip, or "codex" as it referred to itself, to work after he had recovered it from the site of a meteor impact. But then it mentioned people and entities he knew and was aware of that few others were. Was this really an account... of the beginning. He had to keep decoding. Just as he was about to apply his fingers back to his keyboard there was a knocking at his window. He jolted in fear almost sending his laptop sailing across the room. The familiar green eyes reassured him however. He swung open the window to meet a gentle breeze.

"Sonic it's midnight don't do that, you nearly gave me a heart attack"He smiled none the less. Sonic chuckled "Sorry Tails you know subtlety isn't my strong point. What ya reading this time?" He said surveying the room. Tails had to think for a moment before responding to this question. "Not sure really, guess it's some dumb fanfiction or something like that, I should probably get some sleep". Sonic nodded "Yeah me too, see ya around little bro, don't get too wound up in that story." Tails blushed before waving goodbye to the blue streak as it disappeared over the crest of the nearest hill. He picked his laptop back up and contemplated what was filling the screen.

Sleep was overrated anyway.

Codex corrupted, searching nano string...

Codex found, playback resumed:

It grows cold now. No, not a pleasant sort of cold, not of ice but of dread. I may only cling onto the hope that the others will be safe. My greatest friend... my only daughter... surely I have saved them, my last act of purity in a life now marred by betrayal.

What was I.. oh yes I was recounting the meeting. I suppose that means next I must talk about the birth.

I am not familiar with the the mechanics of the Jtholntier birthing process, other than that mother healing very rapidly after childbirth. I was shocked at the concept that a race of gods even required to be born in such a... mortal way. I suppose everything alive has its biology though. They were a race that mostly resembled cats of multiple colourations and that's all I really new of them other than their will over reality. I suppose very few of them will still exist at this point... only those who sought asylum on the Fire Breathers' world. We, that's to say the the supreme leaders of the 6 worlds, were informed of the birth mere moments after its occurrence. Songs of a beauty, the likes of which I had not thought possible, rang out from the planet Jtholn in celebration. I could hear them clearly even from my icy palace hundreds of millions kilometres away, penetrating even the vacuum of space. Only hours later I had received a communication inviting me bare witness to the new heir of creation.

Call me cold; yes I know very funny, but I found it rather hard to care for this development in my current state of mind. Even as I stepped into my teleportation matrix my thoughts were bitter and lingered on the ridicule I had suffered time and time again at the hands of the Elder Council. I emerged on the arrival platform of the Jtholntier palace, a gigantic and marvellous structure, comprised of arches and towers a glistening white. The second sun was setting casting a soft pink glow over the pale city and the far away mountains. My breath was always taken from me by this sight. Halthorian, king of the Jtholntier had always remarked that he found my living quarters of ice to be by far the most beautiful palace of the six worlds. I knew however that he was just being modest, he was kind like that... always so kind.

Several lines of the codex lie blank, suggesting a long silence.

I must pull myself together, so, the child. I strode my way down the illuminated hall, the gilded doors that lead to the king and queen's private chambers fast approaching. Despite my icy nature I was usually rather fond of celebration for any purpose. For whatever reason however I was finding I had difficulty feeling happy. I was about to be in the presence of the new heir to the throne, the child of two of my greatest friends, yet I wanted to get this over with as rapidly as possible. The guard on the door bowed to me as I nodded in return, the doors pushed aside.

The circular chamber was radiant, the exquisite carvings on the floor, the city scape that lay beyond the windows lining the entire wall. I could have stared for all eternity but the feeling of an arm over my shoulder bought me back reality. I turned my head to be greeted by the smiling face of Halthorian. Never had I seen such pure and honest happiness on a creatures' face.

"General, late again I see" He laughed and drew me into an embrace and then gestured to what was unmistakably a floating crib, his beautiful wife tending to the new born, a peaceful serenity etched into every line on her face.

"It must be my old age" I chuckled before turning and bowing to the queen. "How are you feeling Myteria?" She nodded in acknowledgement. "Joyous, I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful daughter, come you must say hello" I made my way to the crib, noticing a faint aura of purple tinted light emerging from it. I gazed down onto the sleeping baby. She was a striking purple and I will never forget how calm she looked. However she also radiated an incredible ethereal power for such a small thing, it hummed in the air around her. "What's her name?" I asked glancing over to her mother.

"Mylanthesis, a word from our old language. It means balance in all things". She reached down and stroked the sleeping infant's forehead.

"A beautiful name" I nodded to both parents and prepared to exit to allow the new family time alone. Halthorian approached me however as I made to open the door. "Would it be alright for us to have a few words before you leave?" I nodded, of course. He pushed the door ajar and ushered me out into the hall. As he stepped out too he made sure to close the door behind him.

"I heard about what happened at the council, you can blame me I was foolish to think I could exercise any control over them. I do not possess the powers of state that I used to" His kindness and understanding showing yet again, I sighed "Dearest friend, I would not blame you for anything. I think myself a fool for continuing to pursue this". As I turned and gazed out over the city I felt his hand rest on my shoulder. "You want what's best for your people, you can't always be warriors for what happens when there are no more wars to fight?" I continued to survey the landscape. "There will always be war. As long as peace exists it will be opposed by something. Some of the horrors I have faced... even having captured what they would call their god they are still relentless."

We had done it, captured pure Chaos. The eldritch god of anti-everything was now sealed away behind a dimensional lock. One of our finest had sacrificed all to capture the abomination and now remained as its prison warden, his soul bound to it. As my thoughts drifted to memories of that terrible battle the king jerked me back to the moment. "That leads me on to something I wanted to ask you." I raised an eyebrow "I would like for your Azura to be my daughter's friend, personal guardian and, later, tactician." Azura, my daughter was next in line to our throne. A slightly unorthodox young girl but already showing incredible cunning. "Her and I would be honoured, however she is rather free spirited.. I'm not sure you could force their friendship-" Halthorian interrupted me with a chuckle "They will be, I can sense it in the spirit lines." We shook hands and I departed back to my to home planet. One thought now crosses my mind.

With the Jtholntier's ability to faintly sense crossing destinies, these "spirit lines", I must wonder how the events to unfold were not predicted and prevented. I suppose I can only deduce that chaos bleeds into everything... nothing is certain.

The codex becomes scrambled once again.

So it only took me 4 years to update this, hopefully someone somewhere will read the first paragraph before getting bored. I re-read this a week ago and found that I still had some of the original ideas hiding at the back of my brain so thought why not. I'm going to involve fluff characters much sooner than intended though cause after all, it is in the Sonic the Hedgehog section and I still find I love to write using those characters.

Any critique, no matter how harsh, is a apprecaited
