Chapter two is up! Please review :)
No one mourns the Wicked
It took them five or six more hours to reach the tower, a couple of them filled up with Charlie's narration, theories and confusing terms as: 'Fiyeraba' and 'Gelphie', and when they eventually got there, it looked abandoned. Dean entered.
"Sam?" He called. "Sammy?"
Suddenly, the door slammed shut behind him. "It's rather rude to just enter someone's house."
Dean turned around. "It's rather rude to just capture someone's brother." He echoed in the same tone.
Charlie gasped. "Elphaba?"
"Who are you and how did you find me?" Elphaba asked.
"Huh," Dean said. "Big ass muthaflippin' castle."
"Kiamo Ko is said to be haunted. The locals won't bother me." The woman said coldly.
"Uhm," Charlie said. "I, I am Charlie Bradbury, and we got your letter. Or, Sam's letter."
"Oh, the tall one." Elphaba stepped out from the shadows and Dean gasped softly.
She was wearing this long, black, ragged dress and a tall pointy hat. In her right hand was a tall broomstick. Her skin was green, yes, but her complexion was stunning. Dean noticed that Charlie was staring too.
"What!?" the witch said. "What are you looking at? Oh, do I have something in my teeth? Okay, let's get this over with. No, I'm not seasick, yes, I've always been green, no, I didn't chew grass as a child."
"Uhm," Dean said. "Okay. Well. I'm just here to get my brother." He pointed around him. "Where did you hide him?"
"Dean?" it was Sam, who came walking down the stairs. "Hey man, you would never guess what happened to me!"
"You woke up and this beautiful witch swept you off your feet into her tower and then locked you up and you were like 'can I write a letter to my brother who can be anywhere in this godforsaken land' and she went, 'yes you can', but you had imagined this differently, more that I would go outside your window 'Sampunzel, let down your hair!' and that you could throw your locks out and I would climb in the window and we would sweep off to the Ruby City."
"Emerald City," Charlie said.
"Sampunzel?" Sam growled.
"Beautiful witch?" Elphaba frowned.
"Listen," Dean said. "I don't know what's going on here, but we're in this weird castle in fantasy land with Monkeys that fly and a witch for Christ's sake."
"Yes," Sam said. "So let's sit down, have something to eat and talk about getting back."
Elphaba inhaled sharply. "Yes."
They walked up the stairs, to a small dining room. Elphaba pointed to the chairs and they all sat down while she opened cupboards to get some wooden chalices and a long bottle.
Then she mustered up some bread and cheese and put it down on the table.
"I've waited long enough now." She said as she poured them wine. "Who are you and where are you from? Most importantly, how did you end up so close to Kiamo Ko?"
"I am Dean Winchester and this is my brother Sam," Dean pointed to Sam. "And this is Charlie, she's, she's a friend of mine." He elbowed her when he noticed she was staring.
"Aw!" She said, elbowing him back.
"Charlie, get a grip."
"What are you two doing?" Elphaba said as she took a sip of her wine.
"Bickering. As usual." Sam said. "Listen Elphabalba…"
"Elphaba." She said coldly. "If you can't pronounce my name I rather you'd call me witch."
She smirked and Dean decided she was cool.
"Elphaba. Sorry," Sam said. "We're from this country called the United States of America. I don't know where it is related to where we are know, but it's probably in another dimension, I mean, we've seen weirder things. We need to know how to get back."
"You know whom you should go to?" Elphaba said, slightly sarcastic. "The Wizard."
"Oh," Charlie said. "Is this post 'Defying Gravity'?"
"Excuse me?" Elphaba said.
"This… oh never mind." Charlie shook her head. "Do you fly on a broomstick?"
"Only when I feel wicked." She growled.
"Seriously," Sam said. "You have to help us."
Elphaba sighed and pulled a book out from… somewhere.
"Oh!" Charlie gasped. "Is that the Grimmerie?"
"Yes." Elphaba frowned. "How would you know that?"
"I…" Charlie hesitated. "I am a seer."
"Of course you are." Elphaba said. She opened the book and started paging through.
Dean helped himself to some bread and cheese.
"You told me about green smoke, right, Sam?" Elphaba said, not looking up from the book.
"Yeah. It was a substance first, when it wrapped around Charlie's ankle, but when Dean slashed it with Ruby's knife it turned liquid and smoke started pouring out. That's when we went unconscious."
"Okay," She looked up. "What's the 'Rubiesknife'?"
Dean pulled it out of his boot and put it down on the table. "It's a special knife, it can kill lesser Demons and other powerful creatures from Hell, like Hellhounds. We got it from a Demon named Ruby."
Elphaba picked it up and stroked the Germanic carvings on the blade. "Wonderful," she said. "I've seen nothing like this." She looked back at Dean. "Can I make a drawing of this? I would like to decipher the carvings."
Dean nodded. Anything to get in the witch's favor. "Go ahead."
She pulled a piece of paper out of her notebook and started copying. When she was finished, she handed Dean the knife back. "Keep it close. It is powerful."
It was silent while they ate. Elphaba kept paging through the Grimmerie.
"I've got something," She said after a while. "But…"
"But what?" Sam asked.
"But I need another Witch or Wizard to complete it." Elphaba looked up. "I'm sorry, I could do it on my own if it were just one, maybe two, but all three of you is just too much."
"Figures." Dean said. "As if our lives would be easy, ever."
"Of course not," Elphaba said. "And to make things worse, the only Witch willing to help me, or at least I hope so, is in the capital."
"Do we get to go to the Emerald City?" Charlie squealed. "Oh, I always wanted to see the Emerald City."
She got up. "ONE SHORT DAAAY."
"Charlie, please," Dean grinned. "How do we do this?"
"I propose you go there." Elphaba said. "And you try to convince the Witch, or 'Glinda the Good', to come here, to Kiamo Ko, and we will perform the spell together to get you home. How about that?"
"Yes. Fantastic." Dean said. "And how do we get to the Emerald City?"
"You head East until you meet the river, don't cross it, follow it until it mouths in a lake, Restwater, then you cross it and you follow it until you see the yellow brick road East of you. Easy enough."
"You've got to be absolutely kidding me." Dean sighed. He took big swallow of the wine and made a face.
"It's sour. I know." Elphaba said. "I'm a fugitive."
"Why can't you come with us?" Sam asked. "Show us the way?"
"What don't you understand about: 'I'm a fugitive'?" Elphaba said coldly. "I can give you some coin, but if you take the shortest way you won't get past any village to buy yourself some horses. There is a breeder across the river, but I advise against that plan."
"I don't suppose we can borrow some clothes?" Charlie asked. "We don't look much like Ozians right now."
Elphaba got up. "I think I'll have a dress somewhere," She left the room.
"Wow, that's an ice queen," Sam sighed.
"She's been through a lot, Sam," Charlie said. "I don't suppose you've seen 'Wicked'."
"She's hot." Dean crooked a grin.
Charlie slapped him. "She's taken. Well, not yet, but you're not touching her, she's Fiyero's."
Dean threw his hands up. "Whoa, whoa, don't worry."
"About what?" Elphaba entered the room with a dress and held it up to Charlie. "I couldn't find any male clothing. You'll have to think of something yourself."
"Yes." Dean said, uncomfortable.
Charlie quickly changed into the dress. "Maybe you could wear tights."
"Yeah, Dean," Sam laughed. "I bet you look amazing in tights."
"I bet I do." Dean growled. "Gonna stick to jeans if you don't mind."
"Too bad." Charlie held her hair up and turned her back to Sam. "Zip me up, please."
Sam obediently obliged, while Elphaba drew a map on a piece of paper. She pointed to the K.K., "This is Kiamo Ko, and this is the Gillikin River." She pointed to a wiggly line accompanied by the letters: G.R.. "I drew a couple of orientation points so you should be able to find it easily. I'm going to say this again, don't cross the river before you get to the lake, the river is the only thing between you and wild animals and there are two side branches which you'll also have to cross. Cross the river at the lake and head North-East, you'll bump right into the Emerald City. From there on, you're on your own."
"We're on our own already." Dean remarked sarcastically.
Elphaba looked at him rather deadly and Dean swallowed. "Yeah- well, we would've been if it weren't for… you… the, uhm, great and magnificent..."
"Spare me your nonsense." Elphaba sighed. "I'm mostly doing this to get rid of you. Although," she eyed Sam. "I like the tall one. He's politer than you."
"If I can call you Elphaba, you can call me Sam." Sam said.
"His preferred nickname is Moose." Dean joked.
"Shut up, Dean," Sam rolled his eyes tiredly.
Elphaba looked out the window. "You can stay here for the night, tomorrow at dawn, you leave."
Sam nodded and got up, "Thank you for your hospitality, but we'd rather leave now."
"We would?" Charlie said.
Dean, who had followed Sam's line of thoughts, nodded too. "Yes we would. If we travel at night chances are lower that we are seen. Apart from you, Charlie, none of our clothes match the setting."
"Smart." Elphaba said. "I'll get you something for the journey. All things considered you should be there in four days."
She got up and left again, presumably for the pantry.
Sam pulled the map toward him. "Let me take care of this, I'm the best navigator."
"Let's not start about that." Dean sighed. "Remember that one time where you held the map…"
"Shut up." Sam growled.
"Then don't start about it." Dean crooked a grin.
Charlie got up when the door opened and a winged Monkey entered. "Hello." She said kindly.
"H-hello." The Monkey mumbled nervously.
"Why are you talking to the Monkey?" Dean asked.
"Well, I am around two Monkeys all the time so I'd like to converse with a talking one for a change." She smiled. "Dean don't you realize? Magic, talking Animals, beautiful dresses, quests, this is real life LARP!"
Elphaba re-entered the room with a big linen sack. "Here you go," She said, handing it to Dean. "This should keep you going for at least five days."
"Thank you very much," Sam said, extending his hand. "If there is anything we can do to repay you…"
"You could keep your mouth shut to everyone except Glinda about me." Elphaba shook it.
"Of course," Charlie said. "I realize the danger you put yourself in to help us."
They got up and descended the stairs, Elphaba seemed quite eager to get rid of them. She opened the door. "Yes. There you go. Don't ignore what I told you about the river!"
"Yeah," Dean mumbled, hoisting the sack on his shoulder. "We won't. Thanks for the food and the money."
"Goodbye, Miss Elphaba!" Charlie waved.
"Thanks for taking care of me," Sam said.
Elphaba nodded and closed the door behind the small company.
"They're gonna ignore what I told them," She sighed, leaning back on the door. "They are so gonna ignore what I told them about the river."
