Chapter 12: Break

This was by far one of the best mornings Yuugi has ever had. The bed, blankets and Yami were so soft and snuggly. He could lie there for hours. The steady heaving of Yami's chest indicated that the other man was still fast asleep. Yuugi had just woken up but had yet to open his eyes. He wasn't planning on opening them anytime soon anyways.

Yami shifted, hugging Yuugi closer to himself. The short man sighed as he snuggled deeper into the warmth that was Yami. He had been a little unhappy and felt neglected a little while ago, but now their relationship was stronger than ever. Winter had come and it was getting cold. Cold was bad, warm was good. Yami was warm.

It's not like Yuugi was sleepy, he was just being lazy. It was weekend and he didn't have shift until late at night. He would get all the rest he could get. Rude movements disturbed both adults sleep, but they didn't want to open their eyes still. It was already clear what the disturbance was.

It was Juudai.

It couldn't be anyone else. Yami didn't have any pets or anyone else staying over. He was more than a little annoyed that Juudai disturbed them. Yuugi admitted that if he did want to continue with Yami, he had to get used to the kid somehow. But not now. Now was snuggle times.

The movements stopped. Yuugi assumed that Juudai had just crawled on top if the bed and sat down. He didn't want to open his eyes and look. Opening eyes was admitting you were awake and start the day. He would feign sleep for a little longer. Only when Yami got up, he would get up.

Movements were felt again as Juudai moved on the bed. Figuring neither adult would get up anytime soon; he had crawled over to Yami and was shaking the man.

"Daddy." The child said none too softly. "Wake up." Yami just groaned and snuggled more into Yuugi, if that was even possible. "Wake up. I'm hungry." The child moaned. Yuugi grit his teeth not to make any sounds of annoyance. Couldn't this kid just disappear? He internally gasped, he shouldn't be thinking this!

"Juudai, make cereal. You can make that on your own." Yami said sluggishly, not moving. Juudai didn't give up. He shook Yami some more.

"No I want bacon." The child persisted. Yami just decided to ignore the kid. Yuugi was slightly happy at this. For a change, Yami decided to just lie in with him instead of getting up for the child. This time he gave himself a mental slap. Children shouldn't be ignored. Yet, why didn't he get up?

He felt Juudai move away from Yami, thinking the child gave up. Thank goodness. Or not. The movements soon returned. Juudai started jumping on the bed. Yami pulled the pillow over his head to muffle his growl while Yuugi just curled up and did his best to ignore the annoying child. Sometimes, he still couldn't believe he found a child annoying. He loved children. He had to deal with stubborn elders and wailing children daily but he preferred them any time of the day over being near Juudai.

"Daddy wake up!" Juudai shouted as he jumped on the bed between laughs and giggles. Yami knew that if he reacted, he would have to get up. He felt that the boy was getting closer to them. He had started jumping near the foot of the bed and was now around their thigh's.

Yuugi was losing his temper fast he rolled over to tell him to stop but it went wrong fast. Juudai had jumped just as Yuugi rolled over. It went all so fast Yuugi couldn't do anything. He watched as Juudai landed on his stomach. From reflex, he pushed the boy off of him and lurched forward clasping his mouth with one hand and wrapping his arms around his stomach. It was deadly silent in the room. Yami turned around to see what was wrong and saw the scene. Juudai had fallen to the floor, lying in a heap of arms and legs.

"Yuugi, I understand that you didn't want to get out of bed but did you have to push Juudai off of the bed?" Yami said with a hint of anger in his voice. His demeanor changed quickly as Yuugi's eyes widened and the man went pale.

"Yuugi?" Yuugi gagged once and got out of bed, running for the bedroom. "Yuugi!" Yami yelled after him as he sat up? What exactly had happened? He watched the boy pick himself up with a pretty proud smile. As the sound of retching reached his ears, Yami shot out of bed and followed Yuugi to the bathroom. The other was hunched over the toilet and vomiting.

Yami sat next to him and held back his hair but Yuugi fought back. "G-go away" Yuugi said shakily before throwing up again. Yami didn't listen. How could he leave when Yuugi was feeling so horrible? "Don't look…" Yuugi's voice was laced with shame. Yami sighed.

"It's okay Yuugi, you don't have to be embarrassed, it's natural." Yami comforted as he placed his hand on Yuugi's back. The words went on deaf ears. Thoughts raced through Yuugi's mind. Yami saw him vomiting. Yami saw his vomit. He would surely think he was disgusting now. They would split up and Yuugi would stay alone forever and get twenty cats and become a crazy cat person. The thought made him throw up again.

Yami softly rubbed circles on Yuugi's back till the vomiting ceased. "Are you feeling better?" Yami asked. Yuugi nodded weakly. The color of his face had returned slightly. "I'll get you some water okay?" Yuugi didn't respond but Yami stood up anyways. He went to the kitchen and to get the water and returned as soon as he could. On the way to the bathroom he passed an annoyed Juudai but he paid the child no heed.

As he returned, Yuugi had rested his cheek on the toilet seat. Yami was thanking all deities in existence that he had also thought to clean the toilet for their dinner date yesterday. "Here, drink up." He said as he held the rim of the glass to Yuugi's lips. Yuugi slightly lifted his head and parted his lips, taking small cautious sips so he wouldn't upset his stomach any more than it already was. Yuugi pushed the glass and Yami away as he was done, wobbly getting on his feet and flushing the toilet. He didn't want Yami nor himself to see what was once yesterday's dinner.

"Am I really that horrible of a cook?" Yami said, half-jokingly and half meaning it. His attempt at cracking a joke to enlighten the mood but it backfired. Yuugi got even grumpier.

"No that's not it." The ever so sweet Yuugi growled. Yami was slightly taken aback. Yuugi was absolutely serious.

"Then… what happened?" He hesitated asking the question. He really didn't want to ask.

"That stupid hell child of yours is what happened! Ever since you took him in everything has been going downhill!" Yuugi snapped. He was internally shocked but the fire in his eyes didn't die. He didn't flinch after realizing what he had said. His voice had trembled from both surprise and fury.

Yami was flabbergasted. He couldn't believe Yuugi actually said that. He had known that the two didn't really get along but he hadn't known it was this bad. "Yuugi you can't just say that!" Yami shot back in both anger and sadness. Before Yuugi could even respond, Juudai had butted in.

"No you are stupid! You are only trying to make daddy hate me and send me back to the orphanage!" The boy screamed.

Yuugi's mouth opened and he back up, inhaling sharply from offense. "I did no such thing! You are the problem here! You're obsession with Yami is driving everyone away from him! You only want him for your selfish self!" Yuugi couldn't believe he was arguing with a five year old.

Yami wanted to get in between them but he was seriously at a loss of words. Neither of listened to him.

"You and your stupid little brother are stealing away my daddy! He belongs to me and not to you! JUST LEAVE AND NEVER COME BACK!" His last words were so intense the face if the little boy turned red from anger and fury. The pitch went so high it was almost just a shriek.

Only one word had stuck in Yuugi's mind. "Little brother?" Yuugi asked with such an icy voice the whole room suddenly got colder. Juudai held strong. "My little brother has never really been near Yami. What have you done to him?!" All the pieces were suddenly falling into their place. How couldn't he see it in the first place? Juudai was really smart for such a young child. He was trying to get to Yuugi through him.

"You and your stupid brother should leave me and my daddy alone." Juudai said, more calmly. Yuugi's eyes darkened.

"It was all you." Yuugi said between his teeth. "You threw the paint on me on purpose! You humiliated me by throwing that fish into my yukata! You threw my dinner on the floor yesterday and you broke my little brother!" Yuugi breathed heavily as he threw out the accusations. Suddenly calm took over his face as he decided. "Fine." He said and got up, walking to the bedroom and slamming the door shut. The click of the lock sounded and Yami rushed after him. Yuugi had himself in.

"Yuugi!" Yami yelled pounding on the door. "Yuugi let me in." He demanded. Yuugi didn't respond to him. He could hear rustling in the room after he put his ear to the door. Yuugi didn't stay in the room for too long. He was now dressed and marching out of the room, through the hallway and to the front door. Yami grabbed him by the arm to stop him from going any further.

"Yuugi wait." He said desperately. Yuugi looked up at him without any expression present on his face. Yami had never seen the man like this before. "W-where are you going?" He asked, regretting it immediately.

"Leaving you and your precious son alone. I have to repair the damage he has done to my little brother." Yuugi jerked his arm out of Yami's grasp and opened the front door. Yuugi didn't even look back as he left.

"Yuugi please! Come back!" Yami shouted after him. Yuugi didn't react. "Yuugi…." Yami's voice was filled with utter despair and misery. He noticed eyes on him soon after Yuugi was out of sight. The walls were thin in Japanese houses, especially with the yelling, he was pretty sure the whole building had heard the commotion. Murmuring was soon following as his neighbors gossiped amongst themselves, glancing at Yami regularly. He was pleading for his boyfriend to come back to him while still wearing his pajamas. Oh yeah, there is no juicer gossip than this. With a heavy sigh, he went back into his house, closing the front door shut.

Without saying anything, he slumped to his bedroom. He couldn't believe how this all ended out. They had such an amazing moment yesterday and suddenly… this. He flopped face down on the bed and didn't move. He didn't want to move. He didn't want to do anything. He even had a deadline tonight but he couldn't care less at the moment. He might've lost Yuugi for good.

Juudai skipped into his room, happy as can be. He finally got rid of that accursed Yuugi. Now he and his daddy could finally be a happy family. "Will you make me breakfast daddy?" He asked happily as he crawled unto the bed and lied down next to Yami. Yami lifted his head and Juudai flinched back. Yami's face was omitting anger like he had never seen before.

"Leave."

Juudai nodded quickly and left the room. He understood that his dad was angry now but he would surely be over Yuugi soon enough.

Yuugi slammed the door to his house open as he had finally arrived. The way to his house seemed to take so long. To top it off he had missed his metro by a few seconds. He stomped into the living room where Omote was softly playing with his toys. Startled from the ruckus Yuugi had made when he entered the house, the child looked mortified. A few toys were scarred around him.

"I'm sorry Yuu-Yuu! I-I will clean up!" He cried, almost on the verge of tears. The little boy was about to put the toys away when he was picked up. Yuugi's face had turned from ice-cold-hard-steel to fluffy-soft-cotton-candy.

"You don't have to… you didn't make the mess that time did you? You would never do such things… I should've known better. I am so sorry Omote." Yuugi said softly, hugging his little brother tightly. Omote wrapped his arms around Yuugi and clutched the fabric of his shirt into his fists, crying. He was so happy that Yuugi finally knew. Yuugi gently pried Omote away from him and sat him down on the couch, squatting down to be on the same level as the boy. With his thumb, Yuugi wiped the big hot tears from the boy's cheeks. "Tell me, what else did he do?" He asked gently, softly petting the boy's hair.

Omote inhaled to say something but decided against it, closing his mouth again. Yuugi held both hands of the child. "You don't have to be afraid. He won't be able to do anything to you anymore okay? You don't ever have to see Juudai again."

The comforting words of his older brother made Omote spill the beans. Yuugi was shaking with anger as Omote told him everything. He snatched his phone and dialed Yami.

Yami was still lying on bed as his phone rang. A few hours had gone by since Yami left and he felt empty inside. That empty feeling he got when he finished a movie and just didn't know what else to do. That feeling, times ten. He lazily lifted up his phone that had started vibrating. He half expected it to be Ryou, since the project leader had already called twice, probable going to ask progress on his assignment. He had just ignored the call but he possibly couldn't ignore this call.

It was Yuugi.

Yami shot up to look at the screen to be sure his eyes weren't deceiving him. It truly was Yuugi calling. Maybe Yuugi was missing him as badly as he was and he wanted to make up. He quickly pressed the answer button, putting the phone to his ear. "Hello Y-"

"Do you know what Juudai did?"

All Yami could do was utter loose syllables. This was not what he expected at all.

"I just… I just…. Aaargh I am so angry I don't even want to talk to you! Yami we're through. I don't ever want to see you or that hell spawn of yours again!" After that, the dial tone played. Yami was in such a state of shock, he lost his grip on his cellphone, that it slipped and fell to the floor, shattering the screen.

It was just a second later that the phone rang again. It called Yami out of his stupor and he picked up the phone. It was Ryou again. With a sigh, he accepted the call.

"Hey Bakura-san." His voice was much raspier than he would've like to.

"Hey Sennen-san… why didn't you pick up? Are you feeling okay?" Ryou asked concerned.

"No." Yami said as if he was about to cry. Ryou was silent for a moment.

"What happened?" He asked. His tone told Yami that if he didn't want to tell, it was okay not to. But Yami had to get it out.

"Yuugi broke up with me." His voice was so high pitched, he barely recognized his own voice. Ryou was silent again for a short moment.

"I was just calling to say that Juudai is at my home, playing with Johan."

Yami took a deep breath and breathed out, trying to calm his voice. Now that Ryou said it, he hadn't seen Juudai around for a while. "Oh is he? Thanks for telling me." He said with a steadier voice, but still it was trembling.

"You didn't know?" Ryou asked.

"No… I didn't. He must've slipped out when I was wallowing in self-pity." Yami said with a weak smile. Ryou didn't really see any humor in it.

"I'm pulling you from the project for now. Till you've picked yourself up." There was no arguing the way Ryou said it. Usually, Yami would protest and insist that he would continue.

"That would actually be nice." He's just a train wreck at the moment. There was no way he could contribute to the project in this state.

"Could you just email what you have to Jounouchi? I will have him finish it for you. Also, you don't have to worry, I won't tell anyone about this. Just… try to pick yourself up okay? I know it's not easy, that a breakup is hard. But everything will be okay eventually" Yami just nodded, not that Ryou would see. He took this as a sign to continue. "I'll drop Juudai off tonight after dinner. You don't have to worry about him okay?"

"Thanks Ryou, that helps a lot."

"Glad I could help. I'll see you tonight. And don't do anything stupid." Ryou hung up, leaving Yami alone again. He dropped his phone unto his bed and lied down again. The silence and emptiness of the room was getting to him fast. He got up and just started wandering his house, finding himself in the kitchen. Rummaging through cupboards to just eat the sorrow away, he came across a large glass bottle. Taking it out, he recognized it as the wine he had gotten from work as a new year's gift. He had just stored it and forgotten about it. Well, it seems like it's his time to shine. The cork came off with a pop and the strong scent of alcohol and grapes filled the room.

-o-o-o-o-o-

Lights zoomed by as Juudai looked out of the window. He had a lot of fun playing with Johan but he was constantly thinking about his father. What if he was still mad at him? He was glad Ryou was dropping him off by car because walking to the house of his friend had taken a toll on his little body. He would often notice that Johan's daddy was often glancing at him.

Johan was sitting on the other side and was leaning his head against the window. They had played all day long and both of them were very tired. They didn't have any naptime. Juudai yawned, earning him a chuckle from the front seat.

"Tired?" Ryou asked with a soft smile?

Juudai nodded, giving the man a big grin in return. "But today was so much fun!" Johan said happily.

"Well, you can play again at kindergarten tomorrow because we arrived to your house Juudai." Ryou said as he parked the car. He got out, letting the kids out too and climbed to the third story where Yami's apartment was. Pressing the doorbell and knocking on the door got them no response.

"Do you think daddy went out?" Juudai asked.

"I doubt it." Ryou said in thought. "Do you have a spare key anywhere?" He asked the little boy.

"No… but our neighbor lady Kujaku-san has one just in case of an emergency." Ryou nodded and knocked on the door that Juudai pointed out. A very voluptuous, busty blond woman opened the door. Ryou blinked as he looked at the beautiful woman.

"Can I help you?" She asked, blinking her violet eyes.

Ryou cleared his throat. "Yes sorry. I was going to ask if you had seen Sennen leave the house or if I could have the spare key to his apartment. He isn't answering and I was just dropping Juudai off." He explained.

The woman sighed, throwing a curly lock of golden hair behind her. "Wait, I'll get it for you. She stepped back into the house and picked out a key from the key box. She handed the key to Ryou, leaning against the doorpost. "He's a mess. He's been crying all day long." She told suddenly. "It stopped all of a sudden."

Ryou suddenly had a bad, bad feeling.
