I'm happy to announce I should be updating on a more regular basis. Bad news we're getting close to the end.
But on another note I want to thank everyone who gave Carmilla a chance.
By the time Elsa and Peri had put on their ice skates the rest of the guys had finished. They were able to catch the last of Sled's routine and from where they were they could hear Rosetta cheering for him.
"From what we saw he might take it," Peri contemplated. Elsa nodded thoughtfully. Sled was good, no denying that. But the boy's event was only the warm up. Everyone seemed to know that. Even as they were waiting to see Sled's scores there seemed to be a change in the air.
The real competition began now. It was in the girl's category, after all where the strongest could be found. Peri, herself, Toothiana, Astrid and that was only the tip of the iceberg. Elsa took a glance at the other girls waiting with them and smirk appeared on her face despite herself. She was excited.
"What are you smiling about?" Peri asked.
"Oh, nothing…"
"Probably about how amazing your routine is," Peri laughed.
"It better be good Snow Queen," The voice made Elsa and Peri turn. Shira from Blue Sky was smirking at them, "Because I don't plan on losing."
"Hey, before you go around threating people maybe you should have as many medals as them, or at least a number that's somewhere close,"
"Ellie! Who's side are you on?" Shira snapped back at her friend how was still lacing up her skates.
"I'm just saying, save the big talk for after you win." Ellie looked at her, "I swear you can be just as hot headed as Diego,"
"So we're starting the trashing talking already. I can do that," Astrid said walking forward.
"Don't start," Tooth tugged her back, "Ignore her. She's just running some extra steam today,"
"We can understand why," Elsa said simply.
"I suppose we should wish you good luck," Tooth smiled.
Elsa and Peri shared a quick glance.
"It's good sportsmanship,"Peri agreed, "Good luck to you too."
Tooth nodded.
The announcements for Sled's scores interrupted them. The scores were marked on a scale from one to ten by five judges and added up for a total out of a possible fifty. Sled's scores were 8.8, 8.6, 8.7, 8.6, 8.2 for a total of 42.9, placing in first place ahead of Sid's 39.4 and Jake's 35.9.
"Well that one place for us today," Elsa stated.
"Are you kidding me, we're in eight and sixth." Astrid said.
"Well it isn't like we didn't know there'd be a lot of pressure on us," Tooth said.
They announced Ellie as the first skater in the women's event. She and Shira shared a quick hug before she took to the ice. Her routine earner her a 36.1.
"And so it begins," Peri said.
"That's a good score, not going to be easy to beat," Tooth commented. They won't speaking to anyone in particular. Shira was next and she scored a 37.4. Elsa smiled. The first two scores were in the high thirties, but she wasn't surprised. That was to be expected, especially from Blue Sky. The next competitors were Odette, Anastasia, Audrey, Coraline and Winnie. They scored 29.4, 31.2, 30, 34.7 and 31.5 respectively. And it was Astrid's turn. She skated on to the ice and One Woman Army started playing.
"This is the song she's skating too?" Anastasia asked.
"That's Astrid for you," Tooth laughed.
Elsa was always impressed with Astrid. Figure skating and hockey skating were two different things, yet Astrid was fantastic at both. She doubted that many people could say that, or at least there won't that many who were at Astrid's level in both. She'd heard once of a girl pursuing figure skating at university but she'd gotten in on a hockey scholarship, but that was one case. Astrid could very well do that if she wanted. She routine had a few high level jumps and spins. Of course DreamWork's were cheering like no one's business.
Astrid earned her a solid 41.
"She's in first place," Margo said.
"Not for long," Elsa and Peri said at the same time.
"Doesn't someone think highly of themselves," Tooth looked at them with sly smile as she made her way to the gate.
"Oh, but we won't talking about ourselves," Peri said.
"Did I just get a complement from two mice?"
"A complement? I wouldn't go that far," Elsa said. Tooth arched an eyebrow at her but didn't say anything.
"Think of it more along the lines that we know you're not going to hold anything back," Peri supplied.
"And you think Astrid was holding back,"
"Oh no." Elsa shook her head, "but no offence to Astrid but you've always used higher level moves that her."
"Does that mean you see as bigger competition than Astrid?"
"You could say that,"
"Whether that was meant as a complement or not I'm going to take it as one." Tooth said with a wink before she took to the ice.
Elsa and Peri didn't say anything else. Little Mix's Wings started to play.
"Suits her," Peri commented. Elsa nodded watching Tooth's moves carefully. She movements were swift and fluid, even more so than Astrid's or anyone else who'd gone so far. Her jumps were spot on, and her skating itself was flawless. She glided around easily shifting between skating forward, backwards and her tricks.
"Man," Elsa smiled, "You can see why her nickname is the hummingbird,"
"If this isn't in the high forties then I know what would impress those judges." Peri said.
Tooth's routine fishined and she staked off the ice while they waited her results. After a minute for two the five numbers flashed on the board- 9.2, 9.4, 9.1, 8.7, 8.9.
"I'd expected at least one ten," Peri said.
"45.3, that's what we have to beat," Elsa read the total score.
"We expected as much,"
The next two competitors went, both scoring in the low thirties and then it was Elsa's turn.
"Good luck, not that you need it, your majesty," Peri said. Elsa laughed.
"Thanks,"
She skated out to the center of the ice and waited for the first cords of her song to start playing. She'd decided on Dragon Boy from Spirited Away. And her routine was one of the most difficult she'd ever attempted. She had two double axe jumps planned, and a triple. If she pulled it off then Peri was right and she should expect a score in the high forties…but if she messed up… and jumps were so easy to miss time.
She took a deep breath and cleared her mind. 'Shut it out', she told herself. 'Shut out the noise and the crowd and Anna screaming herself horse. Just let it go and let the music play. The music started and it was like she was by herself, her earbuds on in the empty rink. She moved, the steps more muscle memory at this point that conscious thought. Her first jump went perfectly, and her first double axel, as did her spin. But then her second double axel came and she landed badly. She stumbled, but by some grace she didn't fall. She moved into the next sequence trying to put the stumble out of her mind. She had to focus on the rest of the routine. But the end of the song was coming, and with it her triple axel. She suddenly wondered what possessed her to attempt the move.
No, she'd done it in practice, and she could do it here. And she did, perfectly. The noise of Disney's cheers were loud enough to break her zen, but it didn't matter her performance was over, and she survived. Maybe not unscathed, but she fine out by how much once the scores came through.
She skated off the ice, looking towards the score board the whole time. She knew it only took a minute for the scores to come up, but it felt much longer. Then…8.9, 9, 9.5,9.3, 9…total score 45.7. That put her in the lead, barely. She sighed, falling back into one of the benches. She had no doubt that Periwinkle could surpass her score if she executed her routine perfectly, but she doubted that anyone else would with only two other skaters besides Peri left. She turned her attention back to the ice to watch Peri's routine. She was skating to If You Believe by Lisa Kelly. She may not have had any triples but her routine was just as high caliber as Elsa's or Tooth's. Her routine went off flawlessly, but Elsa wasn't surprised. She was standing by the gate as Peri skated off the ice.
"That was spectarular,"
Peri snorted, "Sure, like that was anything compared to you,"
"Please, I so messed up,"
"Messed up what?"
"I stumbled,"
"That miss step? Elsa, please that was barely noticeable and you recovered without a hitch. Not to mention your triple basically knocked anything anyone else has done today out of the park. You got the highest score for a reason,"
Elsa looked up at the score board and smiled, "Looks I don't have the highest score anymore,"
Peri turned to see her score, 9.4, 9.3, 9.3, 9.0, 9.2 making her total score 46.2, the highest of the day.
"Congratulations," Elsa hugged the stunned girl.
"I…that…what just happened?"
"You just got the highest score,"
"I scored higher than you," Peri said this like it was the most unbeliever thing in the world.
"You did," Elsa was still smiling.
"PERI!" They both turned at Tinkerbelle's voice. Anna and Tink had hijacked Rosetta's sign with Sled's name and wrote their names on the back. Currently they were jumping up and down to be seen through the mass of Disney students cheering.
"Sisters," Peri laughed.
"You can't help but love them,"
"No matter how crazy they might be,"
The last skaters for the day went but neither scored higher than a 35 so that went Peri, Elsa and Tooth were the top 3. Next was the medal ceremony. The boys were first and while they were waiting Elsa decided to speak Tooth.
"Toothiana, I normally wouldn't admit this, but you were really good today. You should have come in second, not me."
Tooth gave her thoughtful look for a few seconds, "What are you talking about? You're routine was obviously the best here. I actually think you deserved the gold…no offence Fairy,"
"None taken hummingbird. I actually agree. But Elsa thinks her one misstep should have cost her more points,"
"You know you did a triple axel right. I can barely manage a double,"
"Elsa's to modest to admit that she awesome," Peri laughed. Tooth smiled.
"I can see that. It really bugs me that I lost to someone like that. It would be so much easier if you just rubbed it my face and I could hate you like I'm supposed to."
Before Elsa had a chance to ask her to elaborate on that statement they were called out for their medals. They received their medals and a small bouquet, had to pose for a picture or two and then they were free to go. Elsa had barely taken five steps from the podium before she tackled by Anna and Rapunzel. She almost fell over because of their weight. Out of the corner of her eyes she saw Peri actually fall over because of Tinkerbell, Slivermist and Fawn.
"Congratulations," They greeted.
"Thanks guys,"
"So off to celebrate?" Kristoff asked.
"What do you have in mind?" Elsa asked.
"Seeing as we got two medals and beat the moonies I'm sure someone is planning an afterparty," Flynn said.
"How about we go for some hot chocolate and cake at a café?" Elsa suggested.
"That sounds like a party to me," Merida smiled.
"Hey, Peri you want to join us?" Elsa asked. Peir was barely visible thought all of her friends smothering her. But her hand appeared above the group in a thumbs up. Vidia snorted a laugh.
"We'll be behind you, you know, when they're finished hugging her."
"Alright," Elsa shook her head in amusement, "Let's go,"
They ground walked towards the exit. As they were leaving they passed Tooth and her friends and she caught part of their conversation.
"I'm really sorry you lost to the queen and fairy," Jack said.
"Of course you are," Tooth jabbed him in the side playfully.
"What? I am!"
"I wonder what that was about?" Merida looked at Elsa.
"Don't think I won't hurt you," Elsa glared at her.
"Why? Whatever did I do?" She smiled innocently. Elsa rolled her eyes trying not to smile. Anna and Rapunzel had their hands over their mouths to stifle their giggles.
"Let's just go get me something hot to drink,"
