As the meeting went on all was explained; Percy would be the stand in camp counsellor for Dionysus while he was at his meetings in Olympus.
All while this happened Percy was playing angry birds on the iPhone Apollo gave him. Mostly he was doing this to try and block out the sounds of the voices of the animals from the forest who were calling to him. They were getting closer, probably meaning they really wanted to speak to him.
"Uh- Chiron…" A Hephaestus boy said as he looked out of the big house window to the porch where all the land creatures you could think of had gathered somehow. "Why is there a whole forest full of animals on the porch?"
Chiron sighed and looked to Percy, who was still happily playing level seventeen of angry birds.
"Perseus, I think you are needed, you are their lord after all" He said, motioning to the door.
Percy begrudgingly got to his feet and slowly made his way to the door. He was having a de cha vu moment from when the sea creatures used to wake him up to get his help back when he was a demigod.
"Well then, I guess I'll see you guys later" He waved goodbye to the campers and swung the door open.
Immediately he was crowded by the animals. He grinned at them, causing them to weirdly grin back and made his way to the forest. Ignoring the stares the animals followed like ducklings to their mother. Percy chuckled, no wonder Hermes and Apollo called him Doctor Doolittle.
Annabeth
She could feel herself staring after him, but she couldn't help it. It was hard to believe this was the same seaweed brain she grew up with. Her seaweed brain. He still demonstrated some essence of seaweed braininess but not as much as he once did. As he strode away it was like how it was now. Him getting further away and she staying exactly where she was, at the beginning. Still a counsellor. Still at camp. Still adding beads to her leather necklace. Same old, same old.
Whereas he… He was off living a new, beautiful godly life. Without her.
And now she had a choice; Join him as his spouse – Immortal, undying, forever at Olympus. She wasn't sure about that. It wasn't that she was worried about if he had demigods of his own. She'd thought it through and she understood. If he did have demigods she'd love them like she loved him, immortal or mortal she'd love them as if they were her own. But now she was sixteen she could finally leave camp and try to be normal and get those blueprints she'd been designing up so they could be there for generations. But… She had duties; After all, she was the architect of Olympus. Which was something not to be taken lightly. She was torn…
Or she could say no and try her chances at being the rough description of normal.
As everybody dispersed from the cabin, predictably to watch Percy be Dr Doolittle she stayed sitting, rolling her eyes and huffing. What was the big deal? He was still the same boy they knew a few weeks ago… just godly.
Ever since he showed up on the back of that giant demon the Aphrodite girls had been fussing over him. And what made it more annoying was they'd made a fan club, and were following Annabeth around trying to get her to join or interview her about him. How did he become so dreamy? How can I make him fall for me? Why doesn't he notice me? Those were just some of the questions she was asked on a daily basis. Dumb barbies…
It was driving her out of her mind.
Chiron patted her on the back then walked out the door with the others. There was only so much he could do for her now. He'd seen it before many, many times; Heartbreak. But he saw more, he saw she was torn. He understood when others did not. Of course he did, after all, he'd been there for her the second she stepped over the barrier for the first time when she was seven. He practically raised her.
Will Solace, the son of Apollo, stood by the open door, looking to Annabeth, who was now sitting at the ping pong table alone. Unsure of what to do he smiled slightly at her. Dread filled her. Would he ask questions? Would he push her over the edge?
But he did neither of those things, instead he held out the table tennis ball.
"I bet I can beat you, Athenian Einstein" He grinned, obviously proud of the nickname. But she could see in his eyes that he was unsure whether or not she would say yes.
Looking up she returned his smile with her small one and said with a new fire in her eyes.
"You're on, Sunny boy"
He was not insulted by her nickname. Instead he threw back his head and laughed.
"Then it's game on" He paused and handed her a paddle. Then went to his side of the table. "Good luck" Smirking he paused yet again. "You'll need it"
Then she served and the game began. No way was he going to win. Not on her watch.
She could see he was trying to cheer her up and she was thankful. She needed a distraction right now.
For the first time in a while Annabeth was able to relax and play, without worries of monsters or wars. For the first time Will saw a different side of her and he brought it out. Which was great.
That night a friendship was made between Will and Annabeth. And it was a friendship no-one was expecting.
Hi guys,
Please keep reviewing and telling me what you think! It motivates me more.
You surprised? Of all people Will cheers her up. Two more chapters until the big reveal of Annabeths decision. On chapter Twenty she will tell.
Exited- I am.
