Kaoru's Pov

I watch as Hikaru stands up casually. I rise with him and take my place next to him. It feels so familiar. As if I've stood in the place with my brother time after time. Almost like I belong here.

"I'm Hikaru. Kaoru's elder and much more smooth brother," Hikaru speaks with humor as if we've known each other our whole lives. The fan girls erupt into a fit of screams when Hikaru slings his arm over me.

"Kaoru, I wasn't aware you had a brother," Haruhi says looking between the two of us.

"I- Well- He," I started, but Hikaru interupted.

"I've always lived overseas with my dad, but I was finally able to talk him into letting me come live here with Kao," Hikaru lies smoothly. I guess he's right. He is more smooth than I am.

"Well it's nice to meet you, I'm Tamaki, but I also go by the king," Tamaki cuts in extending his hand to Hikaru. Hikaru gazes at it questioningly and then takes it. The rest of the introductions follow a similar form of sorts. Minus, Tamaki's added king comment. By the end of the day, the hosts have already asked Hikaru to join the club. He of course, agreed.

"Hika, what about Mom?" I ask him on the walk home. He stares at me. Clearly this isn't something he put thought into.

"Uh, can I just walk in?" He asks me, I can tell there isn't any other idea coming to him.

"I guess," I mutter to him shaking my head.

"I have a plan. I'll go in alone and talk to her and then drop the bomb on her!" Hikaru sounds as if he's just won the lottery and I don't want to take that from him. She was after all our mother. She would accept him. She had to.

We entered the house quietly, the light was on in the kitchen and I could hear mom humming. Hikaru motions for me to stay by the door as he takes his leave to the kitchen. I can't help but get closer so I can listen.

"Mom," I hear him say softly.

"I was getting worried Kao. It's a little late and growing close to the full moon. You know all the weirdos come out on the full moon," She nonchalantly. I can tell she hasn't even looked up from whatever she's doing.

"Mom, you don't have to worry," He tried again. I could hear it in his voice, he was fighting for her attention. I couldn't tell though. Worry about what? The idiots on the full moon or, the fact he was Hikaru.

"You know I do Kao. It's my job. I'm glad you made it home safe," She said monotone.

"Mom where's dad?" Hikaru asks. We both know he has an idea of where our father is. I see what he's doing though. He's getting mom's attention for real.

"Now young man you know the ans-" She stops. It's quiet for a while.

"Mom," Hikaru whispers again.

"Hikaru, you've returned," Mom says. I hear the chair fly backwards. She must've gotten up quickly to hug Hikaru.

"Yeah mom, I'm here, I'm not going anywhere this time," Hikaru's voice is muffled.

"I wasn't sure if you were still out there. You just kind of vanished after that night," Mom whispers.

"I know. I'm sorry, it was for the best," He responds. There's no answer afterwards though. Just silence, mom and Hikaru embracing. I decide to make my entertrance.

"Kaoru," Mom says seeing me and breaking the hug.

"Kao sought me out mom," Hikaru told her before she could say anything.

"How'd you know?" She asked me. I smiled.

"Family album, this is why I went to New York," I told her softly. I could tell she was happy. "We should go to sleep," I tell mom. It was afterall getting late.

"Are you controlled?" She asked casting Hikaru a serious look.

"I wouldn't be here if I wasn't," He grins revealing a set of sharp canines. I'm taken slightly aback. Mom knew what Hikaru was? I had just found out about the existance of vampires myself and I still needed to talk to Hikaru about it. I had so many questions for him. I meet his gaze, I can tell he knows I'm overwhelmed with curiousity.

"Good night boys," Mom says smiling bigger than I've seen her smile in a long time. It's good to see her so happy. I watch as Hikaru hugs her again and rejoins my side. Maybe just maybe we can be a family, a real one.

"Hikaru, will you tell me about vampires?" I ask him as I lead him to my room and take a seat on the bed. He sits next to me.

"What is there to know Kaoru? We're pretty much what you think we are," He answered with a shrug. He was surveying the room.

"You're eyes aren't red," I tell him. His eyes snapped back to me.

"Myth, for the most part. When I'm angry," He said laughing at me.

"Well, then I guess you're not what I think you are," I tell him turning my face away from his. He was a lot less tense than he was during our encounter in New York.

"Must not be," He grins. Slowly, he leans over and ruffles my hair. "It's good to be back here with you," He tells me.

"Hikaru, what did the vampire girls mean by me preventing you from taking your rightful place?" I ask finally getting the the question that had been plaguing my mind.

"Kaoru," He sighs. "They won't me on the council of vampires because I have abilities no other vampires have. I was turned on the winter solstice, something about that date, the moon, and our family made me special. Anyway, I've been rejecting the council for years. They have little or no regards for humans, which goes againist my morals. The vampires and the werewolves have been fighting a war for many years. They believe with my abilities paired with the council it could end it, but at what expense? The others are blaming you because I never told anyone about my family. Theoretically in the world of vampires you guys were dead. That's all they needed to know, so when you showed up in New York they assumed you were the reason I stay away. With you out of the way they think it'll magically make me join," Hikaru says. I shake my head, his response was very difficult to follow. I decide not to question him further on the matter. Hopefully, it'll all clear up soon.

"Why didn't you come back to me?" I ask him. It was my final question for the night.

"I didn't think you were alive Kao," He says after a long moments silence.

"I don't remember much of anything before the age of six. I don't remember you," I confess to him. His smile returns.

"The spell on you wouldn't be doing much good if you did," He says chuckling.

"There's a spell on me?" I ask him. He holds up his hand.

"Tomorrow," He whispers. I open my mouth to protest, but he stands and moves towards the window. "I have to go. You need to sleep," He tells me.

"You're leaving?" I ask him sounding hurt.

"I have someone to meet up with. It's important. I'll be back soon," He mutters before slipping out the window and into the night.
