Nala may have slumped against a rock, but Loki was still awake, thoughts zooming through his mind at unfathomable speeds, morphing into memories which crashed and twisted together at will. He simply sat back and let it all happen, too tired to try and make sense of the jumbled mess that his mind had become. After the fire died down to smoldering coals, unrolled the red sleeping bag and gingerly draped it over Nala's sleeping form, unrolling his own and attempting to settle down amid the stones, sticks, and leaves below. He laid awake for a long time, gazing at the stars. A comet flashed by, briefly illuminating the heavens.

"Make a wish, Sunshine." Loki jerked, unaware that Nala had been sleeping. She wasn't looking at him, instead gazing at the stars. For once, the sky was cloudless, and the full moon cast a silvery glow over her warm features.

"Excuse me?" he asked, unsure of this Midgardian expression.

"On Earth, when there's a shooting star, you make a wish, and it will come true." Nala explained, a faint smile on her lips. Loki saw them moving soundlessly before she rolled to the side.

"Sing me a song." Loki said suddenly, clasping his hands over his chest.

"Why the sudden interest in earth songs?" Nala laughed softly. "Like what?"

"Something not about romance." said Loki decidedly. "The one you sang before, when I had the, ah, nightmare." Nala thought for a moment. There was certainly a plethora of love songs on earth, but very few of them were a platonic relationship. A few were discarded on the basis that they pertained to sisterly relationships or silly subject. She selected a more recent one that had a nice ring to it and seemed to sum up a similar situation.

Come on skinny love, just last the year

Pour a little salt, you were never here

My my my, my my my, my my my, my my

Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer

Tell my love to wreck it all

Cut out all the ropes and let me fall

My my my, my my my, my my my, my my

Right in the moment this order's tall

And I told you to be patient,

and I told you to be fine

And I told you to be balanced,

and I told you to be kind

And in the morning I'll be with you

but it will be a different kind

Cause I'll be holding all the tickets

and you'll be owning all the fines

Come on skinny love what happened here

Suckle on the hope in light brassiere

My my my, my my my, my my my, my my

Sudden load is full, so slow on the spit

And I told you to be patient,

and I told you to be fine

And I told you to be balanced

and I told you to be kind

Now all your love was wasted

then who the hell was I?

Cause I'm breaking at the britches

and at the end of all your lies

Who will love you, who will fight

And who will fall, far behind

Come on skinny love

My my my, my my my, my my my, my my

Almost as soon as the last few notes died away, Nala slumped asleep again on the rock, but Loki stayed up longer, worry gnawing at his already frayed nerves. He knew that, despite Nala's efforts, SHIELD or some independant, less lenient organization would eventually find him, and while he didn't want that to happen, he realized that he was a lothe to part with her company.

And the knowledge scared him to death.
