Leave me out with the waste
This is not what I do
It's the wrong kind of place
To be thinking of you
Elena would never have thought that it would hurt this much.
She wasn't in love with Klaus. She wasn't (no, really – she was not). But sometimes, Klaus would run his middle finger along her cheekbone and his thumb would brush against her long eyelashes and she would think that this – that this is what it feels like to be adored.
But nothing that comes along with Klaus is easy and she had known that from day one (so why was her heart aching worse than when she lost her parents going over that damned bridge?) but yet, she had still given herself to him.
It was his blood. It was his fucking blood.
But Elena knew it wasn't. She knew because she wanted to hit Caroline. She wanted to slap her across the cheek and tear her hair out. She wanted to hurt her.
Klaus had promised. He had promised that he didn't want Caroline. So what was he doing now?
It's the wrong time
For somebody new
It's a small crime
And I got no excuse
She watched as he opened her hand, his sweet – his toe curling amused smile gracing his lips as if he wasn't further pushing the knife into Elena's heart. And then he placed something inside it and Elena couldn't see what it was even with her vampire abilities. Caroline smiled widely and her eyes crinkled and then – and then Klaus kissed her.
He kissed her.
Why – why did he kiss her?
Just hours before they had graduated and she and Caroline were best friends again. She had become friends with Stefan and Bonnie again and they accepted her. Stefan had accepted her.
Damon.
Damon has been gone since the night that they broke their bond.
And Bonnie? Bonnie was her most faithful friend. She accepted and supported her no matter the consequences. Elena wished she could say the same for Caroline.
And they were still kissing. Elena wanted to hurl. Her vision was becoming blurry. She could feel her fangs begging to be set free – and her blood. Her blood sang for him. It sang for vengeance.
And is that alright? Yeah
Give my gun away when it's loaded
That alright? Yeah
If you don't shoot it how am I supposed to hold it?
How could Klaus do this to her? How could he fuck her an hour before he kissed another woman? And Caroline knew she had an agreement with Klaus. So why was she kissing him back as if Tyler didn't exist? Caroline was the most hypocritical of them all.
When they pulled away, he sensed her. She sensed him all the way from the Salvatore mansion where she was spending the evening with Stefan, Bonnie, Matt and Tyler. And their bond – their blood bond – led her to the Grille.
His eyes turned to her slowly as if he could barely manage his shame and when his eyes met hers, he didn't look cruel. He didn't look cocky. He looked as if he didn't know what to think.
But then – he looked at her as if he felt sorry for her.
It made her sick. It made her furious. She wanted to drive a stake through his heart.
Instead, Elena looked at Caroline who was wisely looking down at the counter of the bar, her fingers shaking slightly. Elena still couldn't see what she was holding.
Her rage – although she was beginning to have less trouble containing it – almost drove her over the edge. Her feet were already moving her towards the pair but then she stopped as realization hit her.
She didn't need Klaus. She didn't need him and she shouldn't want him either. He was using her for his own damn amusement while he saved the tender behaviour and loving glances for her so-called 'best friend'.
Elena was a free, independent woman. She didn't need to be around the likes of him.
And so she stopped and only looked at the pair once more before she left. She heard the guilty words of Caroline and the deafening-silence of Klaus.
She was leaving. She was leaving him.
"As much as I despise your very existence, I don't oppose to the idea," Rebekah said as they drove towards Matt's small home. "I hate Klaus as much as you do."
Elena snorted. "You don't hate Klaus. You would do anything for him."
"What does that say about you?"
Damn. She had her there.
"Rebekah," Elena sighed. She never thought she would feel this exhausted as a vampire. It had only been a few hours and she just wanted to sleep. "I just want to get away."
Rebekah smiled then but her grin wasn't happy – it was mischievous and eerie. "I have always been a fan of threesomes. With two guys, mind you. But we can make this work."
Elena almost choked on her own spit. "Excuse me?"
"Oh please," The blonde original spoke. "When you become a vampire, sexuality becomes a blurred line. As much as you like to think you love cock – just wait until you really get to know what it feels like to be with someone. Guy or girl."
Elena didn't know what so speak out loud because she knew. She had that with Klaus.
"I am not going to sleep with you or Matt. Or either of you at the same time." Elena clarified, holding up a finger. "I'm only coming along for the sight-seeing."
Rebekah rolled her eyes but Elena could see it now – that small twinkle and the gentle curve of her lips showed her that Rebekah wasn't harbouring colder feelings towards Elena anymore.
It was times like these that Elena wished she never stabbed her in the back. Like, quite literally stabbed her. In the back.
That alright? Yeah
Give my gun away when it's loaded
That alright? Yeah, with you?
Matt only had one bag of luggage and Rebekah and Elena had nothing, deciding on buying their clothes on the way. That way, they would be able to experience different cultures and fashion tastes. Matt only shook his head at their statement with an incredulous look on his face as they took off towards the airport.
They would be in Paris in the morning.
When they had finally landed in Paris, they immediately rented out a cabin with three rooms. This confused Elena slightly as she assumed the blonde vampire was sleeping with Matt, but judging by the blush staining Matt's cheeks and Rebekah's shy and nervous smiles – the two weren't having sex. Yet, that is.
And then came the dreaded phone call. She wished she could avoid it but after 26 missed calls, she knew she couldn't avoid the bastard anymore.
Rebekah had been giving her pointing looks all day and it seemed that if the phone was to ring one more time within the span of 10 minutes, the blonde vampire would stake Elena right through the head.
She picked up the phone and her fingers shook as her thumb hovered above the green phone handle. Her breath hitched before she picked it up without a second thought and shut her eyes, waiting to hear his rough and raspy voice. The voice she came to love over the last few months.
"Elena."
It was simple. It was only her name – and yet, it made her heart stammer in a faster beat than usual while she was around him. She bit her lip and clutched the phone for dear life as she answered. "Klaus."
She began to relax as she ran her hand through her newly cut hair. The pink highlights were ridiculous but she felt ridiculous and decided to do it. And damn, she was close to convincing Rebekah to dye her blonde hair bright blue.
"Where are you, kitten?" There was a growl to his voice and Elena understood now. He wasn't just livid and irritated – he was scared. He was worried.
And then – so fast it would challenge a lightning bolt and its destination to the surface of the earth, she was angry again. She was hurt – she was so fucking hurt. "Why do you care? Has Caroline opened her legs for you already?" And then she let out an animated gasp and Rebekah widened her eyes at the gesture. She looked at the young vampire in disbelief as she continued speaking in a spiteful tone. "Are you bored with her already?"
She made sure to include an audible pout as she said that last part and her confidence grew by miles.
"If memory serves me well – and by Gods, kitten, it really does – then you weren't too slow either with opening your legs and offering yourself up to my service."
"You're defending her."
She heard his sigh on the other end of the line but the ache that was growing in her chest was unbearable and she wanted it gone and she wanted to stop hurting and she wanted to turn it all off once and for all because she didn't want to feel. She didn't want to care. She didn't want to hurt.
"This wasn't meant to happen." He whispered and Elena could sense it now. She could sense his emotions.
Klaus was often very cruel and sadistic but Elena knew another side to him. She knew the curious and creative and imaginative painter and the passionate and demanding lover and she knew the horrifyingly humorous and teasing morning cook – and she knew Klaus. The real Klaus.
And yet, that wasn't enough. Elena couldn't settle for this. She couldn't. "I know. None of this should have happened."
There was a meaning to the words that wasn't visible unless you could read between the lines but it only took Klaus all of two seconds to figure it out and his voice was much firmer but so, so, so frightened and Elena ravelled in that because Klaus was the one afraid to lose her; not the other way around.
"Elena," He said. His voice reduced to a whisper but Elena knew it wasn't because he wanted to speak softer or quieter. It was because it was laced with such raw and unbelievably strong emotions which Klaus just wasn't ready to share. "Don't do this. Please."
She kept her voice stone-cold. It was something that Katherine managed to teach her without even trying. "It's already done."
She heard his release of a shaky breath on the other side of the phone and just as he began to ramble about companionship and loyalty, she hung up.
And then – it hurt. It ached. Everywhere. She dropped to the ground and her world collapsed as she struggled to breathe. She could feel it break. She cut their bond in a vicious and heartless way and she was left hurting like a wounded animal at the side of a road.
She heard Matt and Rebekah rushing to her and curses and cries left her mouth but she couldn't form a coherent sentence because she was in pure agony.
There was no other way. She had to do it. She had to turn it all off.
She had to.
"I need to – I need to do it. God, I need to do it."
Rebekah seemed to realize what was happening as Elena slowly stopped shaking and sobbing and sat up straighter. Her face held disbelief and a calculated gaze shifted from Matt to the doppelganger.
"Elena – why – what the fuck – why did you do that?" Rebekah wanted to shake the vampire viciously but she knew it would do no good.
The blond couple watched as the brunette slowly smiled and revealed her fangs cockily. "Are we going out to eat or what?"
Is that alright? Yeah
(To give my gun away when it's loaded)
Is that alright? Is that alright?
Is that alright with you? No

And also, with their blood bond now broken, what do you think will happen to the pair? Will they reunite? Will they hate each other once again? Review please! CHeeeeers xxxxx
