Chapter 18

Michael Burnow smiled as he watched the Winter Soldier toss the Hydra scientist into the empty room. The fear in the new comer's face upon seeing the Winter Soldier couldn't have been any less than what Burnow saw in his eyes now. Hydra now knew that he had a hold of their "weapon". Well, Jared Salks knew and who knew what condition he'd be in once the interrogation was through. He looked at the soldier as he walked out of the room, slamming the door shut behind him.

"Well done, Winter Soldier," Burnow praised, the smile never leaving his face as he eyed the other scientist through the window to the room. "But it took you a bit longer than I anticipated. Run into trouble I take it?"

The soldier nodded once. "That man and woman you mentioned were there," he said in a monotone voice. "I tried to get rid of them, but someone took the woman away. The man was more of a challenge."

"Ah," Burnow said, clicking his tongue. "I thought that was the case." He paused, eyeing the super soldier in front of him. "And did you know who those two were?"

"No," the soldier said, shaking his head. "Should I?"

"No," the scientist said, a wicked grin growing on his face. "They are just nuisances. Don't let them get in your way."

"Yes, sir."

Burnow looked at Salks in the other room and nodded his head. "We'll begin the questioning later. At the moment I'm working on other things. Do whatever you need to," he said, waving his hand dismissively as he walked back to his lab.

The Winter Solider watched the scientist, staring at his back. The soldier remained in his spot before sharply turning his heel and made his way down the opposite end of the hall.

Steve patted Tracey's shoulder as he took a seat on the couch next to her. He gave her a small smile before he looked at the rest of the team. He, Sam, Trip, and Tracey had just informed the rest of the two teams what had happened at the restaurant. It was silent. No sounds were made at all after the report. Many of the people around them had solemn looks on their faces. Mostly coming from the Avengers at the news of their teammate.

"We'll find Burnow and we'll stop him," Mack said after another few minutes of silence. "We just need to figure out a new plan on finding the base where Burnow is located."

"Mack is right," Jemma spoke up. "We can't assume that Burnow stayed in his old base. He packed up and moved. Obviously we know this since we had gone back the day after…"

"I should call that guy up the next time I move out of my apartment," Bobbi mumbled. "He packed faster than me and my friend put together."

"Right, we uh we uh need to um…." Fitz said, snapping his fingers. He snapped them one final time once the word came to his mind. "Locate him and we will find Bucky there."

"We'll find them, I don't doubt that," Tony said, coming off the elevator. "Snow Queen can't hide forever. Plus last time, he showed up at Steve's apartment. If he can come back like Lassie last time, he'll come back again."

"You know what we should do?" Clint asked, practically throwing himself on an armchair and kicking his legs over one of the arms.

"Make some room for me?" Natasha asked, pushing his legs off and taking a seat on the same arm of the chair.

Clint rolled his eyes, but gave Nat a quick smile before he turned to the rest of the team. "I'd like to know what Tony's been doing down in his lab," he said, shifting his eyes to give the mentioned scientist a sideways glance.

"Not to mention," Sharon began, "Steve and Coulson's secret meetings." She pushed her boyfriend's arm, raising a brow. "Why are you and Coulson constantly going off on your own to talk? There's no way you guys are still talking about autographs."

"And Tony, seriously," Barry spoke up. "What are you doing down in that lab. You usually get on me for being distracted during missions. And yet here you three are sneaking around the entire team."

"Well," Coulson said, clearing his throat. "As for Tony, I don't know what he's doing. As for Steve and I, we have business we are taking care of."

"What kind of business?" Skye asked, raising a brow at her boss.

"Business that only concerns him and I," Coulson said, a firm expression on his features.

"What are you hiding, Phil?" May asked, glaring at her teammate.

"Like I said, business that only concerns him and I. I'm sorry," the S.H.I.E.L.D. director said.

Tony quickly threw up his hands when every head turned to look at him. "Hey, don't look at me. I'm not sharing anything if they're not sharing anything. Even if they did I still wouldn't share."

"You guys are impossible," Natasha said, rolling her eyes. "We need to focus on the mission, as much as we'd all love to know what you three are doing. But we need to focus on stopping Burnow and get Bucky back."

"Well, what we know is that Burnow has moved since finding his first base," Lance said. "The bloke also has our friend, who is now under his control…" he said, trailing off as he caught the looks on some of the others' faces.

"We also know he has other um…uh…" Fitz said, snapping his fingers once again. "Um…super soldiers being controlled by the robo bugs and that he um wants Hydra for information for something."

"That something is what we need to find out," Coulson said. "We need to continue our searches for Burnow and just hope we find him. Skye, Tracey, keep watch over street cameras. See if you can find where Jared Salks came from and where his Hydra buddies went after the attack at the restaurant."

"Right," Skye said, nodding her head. She peeked a glance at Tracey and saw a slight scowl on her face as she chewed her cheek.

"Got it," Tracey said, standing up.

"Tracey, where are you going?" Barry asked, watching as his twin headed towards the elevator.

"I'm grabbing my laptop," she said as she stepped onto the elevator. She gave the group a smile before the doors closed, but as soon as they did it fell. Her eyes were hard and were trained on the double doors in front of her.

She stepped off onto her floor and headed down the hall to hers and Bucky's bed room, completely by passing Dexter, who had greeted her as enthusiastically as he always did. Turning on her laptop, she quickly pulled up the street cameras she had been searching through for the past week. As always nothing. Tapping of keys filled the silent room as the hacker searched further and further into the files she had. Burnow. Salks. Anything and everything she could to connect the crazed scientist with the Hydra scientist Bucky had kidnapped. She went back to the street camera that was near the restaurant. She sat there, watching the footage of the attack at the restaurant. The way Bucky moved about, attacking Sam, Steve, and Trip, he was brutal. He didn't let up. He was doing what the Winter Soldier was trained to do. Kill and complete his given mission.

Fast forwarding the footage, Tracey kept careful watch of the other two Hydra scientists. Those two had escaped. Bucky was only gong after Jared Salks. But why?

She chewed her cheek when the footage reached the part where Bucky nearly attacked her. She watched as he pointed his gun at her, his eyes showing nothing but anger. He was going to shoot her if it wasn't for Steve stopping him.

She turned her head. Staring at the closet on one side of the room, she chewed her cheek. Getting up she headed towards it and began pushing aside the hanging clothes until she found what she was looking for. Bucky's safe. The safe where he kept all his guns. She frowned and quickly pulled out her phone, hooking it up to the keypad.

"Bucky, you should have stuck with your old fashioned one instead of listen to Tony," the hacker said to herself.

As soon as the code was put in, she opened the door and stared at the equipment. This was only the smaller hand held guns. He hid the other ones somewhere she didn't know. That was fine by her. She didn't want to know where those were. But at this moment she needed only one thing. The only stun gun the super soldier owned.

"Tracey?"

The blonde woman stood up abruptly and smacked her head on the low shelf of the closet. She sucked in a breath as she slowly turned around, holding her head. Standing in front of her was Steve, holding back a small smile. Tracey rolled her eyes and walked back over to the bed.

"Sorry," Steve said with a small chuckle.

"It's fine," Tracey replied, waving a dismissive hand. "What do you need?" she asked, sitting back down at her laptop. She quickly slid the gun under her pillow, doing her best to be as discreet as she could.

"I just wanted to make sure you're okay," he said, making his way over to her. He looked down at the computer screen and pursed his lips. "Why are you watching this?"

"To see which way Bucky went after he escaped with Salks. I'm also trying to figure out what Burnow wants with him. What does he know that could help Burnow with whatever he has planned?"

"Have you found anything?"

"Nothing that could be useful for Burnow. Although we don't exactly know what his next plan is," Tracey said, chewing her cheek. "The only thing Salks knows about is weaponry for Hydra and some guy named Ian Quinn."

"That name doesn't sound familiar," Steve said, looking at the image of the man known as Ian Quinn. "My guess it has something to do with the weapons Hydra uses. But we can't exactly over look Quinn."

"Right," Tracey said, keeping her eyes on the screen. "But we still need to figure out where Burnow and Bucky are." She smiled lightly when Dexter jumped up on to the bed. The dog wagged his tail as his owner scratched his head. "From the footage, it looks like Bucky went south. But I tried to follow him on other cameras, but I can't find him."

The blond super soldier sighed. "He was trained as an assassin. He probably took some route where the cameras wouldn't catch him."

"Right," Tracey mumbled.

"What about Burnow's database? Anything on there?"

"I've tried, but he's only kept minor files on his computer. I think everything else that's important he keeps on paper," the hacker responded. "The only things I've found are the names of Hydra scientists, files on us, and locations of Hydra bases. Things we already know. There was also a file on the Winter Soldier…"

There was a pause between the two friends.

"I would get rid of that," Steve sighed after a moment. "For Bucky's benefit."

"I was thinking the same thing," the blonde woman said, staring at the photos of Bucky. There was a photo of him wearing his uniform from the army and then there was a haunting picture of him frozen in the cryotube. The hacker took a deep breath and slowly let it out before she set to work to delete the file.

"Trace…" Steve said slowly, his eyes trained on something behind her.

"Hmm?" she hummed in reply.

"What's this?"

Tracey turned around and her eyes widened. Steve was looking at the gun she had hidden under the pillow. It appeared Dexter had flipped the pillow over, revealing the weapon.

She quickly grabbed it. "It's nothing."

"Tracey, is that one of Bucky's guns?" Steve asked slowly, his brow slightly furrowed.

"Don't worry about it, Steve," she said, pushing past him and putting the gun back in the closet.

"Why do you have it?" the super soldier said, following her. "Tracey, why do you have one of Bucky's guns?"

"It's only a stun gun," she said, her brow furrowed as she kept her head down. She refused to look up at her friend. If she did she'd only feel guilt.

"That doesn't matter. Why do you have it?" Steve pressed on. "What are you planning on doing with it?"

"Nothing that concerns you," she said, grabbing her phone and purse. She quickly put the gun in her shoulder bag and made her way out of the room.

"Tracey!" Steve called out. He grabbed hold of her arm, pulling her back. "Don't go out there and try and find him. He won't listen to you. Holding up a gun to him and threatening him won't make him remember. It will only make him mad."

"Someone has to try something!" she yelled. "He shouldn't be going through this again!"

"You think I don't know that? I know you love him, but you're not the only one who is worried about him! He is my best friend! Everyone is worried! Do not do something you're going to regret and get yourself hurt!"

Tracey yanked her arm out of the super soldier's grip and glared up at him. "Someone needs to do something. If you're not going to try and search for your best friend, I will."

"Shit…" Steve said, running a hand through his hair before he pulled out his phone.

"Winter Soldier!" Burnow said, voice blaring through the lab.

He was furious. That bitch had hacked into his system and deleted the files on the Winter Soldier. It wasn't the fact that she had deleted them. He could care less about those files. He had the soldier in his grasp. It was the fact that she had the nerve to break into his database and search through his files!

She was going to pay. She was going to pay for messing with him. She was a nuisance and he was going to get rid of her. And he knew just how to do it.

"Sir?" the super soldier said as he stepped into the lab.

The scientist's face twisted into a smile as he stared at the soldier. "I have a new mission for you. This," he said, tossing a photo to him. It was the blonde haired woman again. His face turned into a glare. "She has broken into my systems and erased a file that wasn't hers to mess with. I need you to get rid of her. Immediately."

The Winter Soldier stared at the woman. Eyes scanning every inch of her face, memorizing his target. He looked up at his boss and saw hatred all over his face.

"Yes, sir," the soldier said, turning away and heading to the bay.

From what he remembered, this woman wasn't a threat. She wasn't dangerous. This mission would be quick.

Eyes trained on her phone, Tracey walked through the crowded streets of New York, pushing and shoving her way past people. She scanned her eyes across the tiny screen and watched the restaurant attack's footage once again. She was currently on her way to the sight, hoping to find at least some bit of evidence as to where Bucky had run off to after the fight. Staring up at the wreck that was once a restaurant she looked around. All the tables and chairs on the patio were bent and thrown about. The bricks on the wall and patio were cracked or broken or strewn about the area. The hacker chewed her cheek before looking back at her phone. Watching the footage of Bucky running away with Jared Salks, she followed his path.

If he avoided areas with cameras then he went… she thought as she looked around the new area. "There," she said to herself, spotting a street with very few, a minimum of four or five, people walking about.

She went down the street, keeping her head down and avoiding contact with anyone. Mostly to keep herself unnoticed by Steve. She could only guess he had chased after her at some point. He hadn't shown up yet, but better safe than sorry.

Tracey stared at her phone again as she stopped half way down the street. She chewed her cheek, trying to figure out where his next path could have possibly been.

She froze though. The sounds of gasps and just plain silence filled her ears. She looked around and saw that the few people who had occupied the area had disappeared. She turned around, hoping to see where they went and what could have happened. The answer was in front of her.

Her breath hitched and her eyes widened. Bucky was standing in front of her a few feet away. His metal hand was in a fist and his flesh hand held a gun. During the week of hunting down Bucky and Burnow, Tracey would have been ecstatic to see Bucky. But in this current situation, with the super soldier pointing a gun at her, the hacker was scared. Her legs were shaking and she could find the ability to move, let alone speak.

Staring into his blue eyes she only saw anger. He stared at her with the eyes of the Winter Soldier. The eyes that haunted her dreams since the day he lost his memory again. They weren't the eyes of James Buchanan Barnes.

The blonde woman let out a small gasp when Bucky took a step towards her. Her wobbling legs found mobility and allowed her to take a step back. She stared at the super soldier as he slowly made his way towards her, gun still pointed at her.

"B-Bucky," she said, her voice wavering. "Bucky, listen to me. This isn't you. You're not this man. You're not a monster .You never have been. You're a good man." She screamed when a bullet whizzed past her head and imbedded into a building a couple feet behind her. If the hacker's legs were shaking before, her whole body was now. "Bucky! Please! It's me! It's Tracey!" she cried out. Another bullet went over her head.

What was he doing? As far as she knew, the Winter Solider never missed his target. She knew Bucky never did. So why was he missing now? Was he playing with her? Trying to get his target as scared as she could be? Was he making a warning shot? Was she supposed to go with him?

However, staring into his eyes, she knew that that wasn't the case. His eyes were those of a murderer. He was here to kill.

"выбраться отсюда , кукла," he said, eyes trained on her.

"Bucky, please!" Tracey cried out, tears welling up in her eyes. She quickly reached into her purse when she saw the soldier continue to walk towards her. The gun was aimed at him, held tightly in both hands. "I'll shoot. I swear to God, Bucky, I will shoot you."

The super soldier's eyes widened and scrunched up in fury once the woman pulled the gun out. He stomped over to her, fire two more shots at her and over her head. The woman ducked and screamed, covering her head with her arms. The target was weak and a coward. He was right when he left for the mission. She'd be an easy kill.

He took a few more steps towards the blonde woman only to stop and quickly raise his arm when a gunshot went off. What felt like an electric current coursed through his body. It started at his metal arm and shot through his body in seconds. He looked down at his left arm and found a stun bullet stuck to his arm. His face scrunched up and he ripped the bullet off his arm before he turned his attention back to the woman.

She was shaking and had the gun held up in her hands, pointing right at him. She had actually taken the shot. Clearly she didn't know how to use it. She was weak, but it appeared she wasn't one to back down from a threat. This only made him mad.

He held his gun back up at the woman and aimed. He wasn't going to miss this time.

"Tracey! Move!"

The Winter Soldier whipped around just in time to deflect a flying object heading towards him. He glared at the figure in front of him. It was the man from the restaurant. This time he had a different person with him. A young man with light brown hair was standing next to him.

That didn't matter. He was going to finish his mission even if there were more casualties to take.

"Tracey, move!" the new man shouted at the woman. He began to fire rounds from his gun at the Winter Soldier, only to have the super soldier deflect them with his arm.

"Barry, you get Tracey. I have Bucky," Steve ordered, throwing his shield at his best friend.

Barry nodded and quickly dodged a swinging fist from the Winter Soldier. Steve quickly distracted him, allowing the male Madison twin to grab his sister.

"Come on, Trace," he said, pulling her along.

This time Tracey didn't protest. She didn't say anything as she followed her brother out of the street and away from the two fighting super soldiers. Steve was right. Bucky would get mad if she pulled the gun on him. Bucky didn't remember let alone recognize her. This only made her upset and angry at herself for being stupid. But she wasn't going to stop. They were going to get him back. She knew that much.

That's chapter 18. And holy crap that's my longest chapter ever! I can't believe I was actually able to get this done so soon since the last update. But I hope you guys liked it. I originally didn't have the scene with Tracey taking Bucky's gun and using it against him until I talked with morbidly-funny. We were talking about a part of the story and the idea just randomly came to mind. So thank you so much morbidly-funny for talking with me and leaving me such great support: comments, thoughts, and such! You're an amazing person and have been a great help with some of my chapters!

This story might be coming to a close soon. I'm not entirely sure how much longer. We all will see apparently ha. But Mistra Rose on here asked if I was going to be done once this wrapped up or if I had another idea in the works. I actually do have an idea for the next chapter of the Madison twins-verse and while I was telling her that I actually came up with an idea I'm really excited about and hope to actually write.

If you'd like to ask the Avengers, Madison twins, and anyone else in the tower any questions, feel free to message me on tumblr. If you have any prompts you'd like to see me write, feel free to message me on tumblr, PM me here, or leave it in a review.

Thank you to everyone for the favorites, follows, and reviews. Your support makes my day!
