Chapter 55: Stone of Ashes

-Somewhere in the Skeletal Lands-

David found himself meditating in peace, in a lone and dark grassland near the Skeleton Fort/Castle as some would say. He sat in silence on the grassy ground as he simply let the time pass by, with his eyes closed under his pumpkin mask. His axe was simply strapped behind him and there was a bow placed on his lap, he appeared to be in focus as if thinking about something through the depths of his mind. Then as he was deep into his thoughts, he heard a familiar voice call to him.

"David..." The voice was feminine, sounding sincere, and was very familiar to him, as he turned to her. "G-good evening..."

"Oh hey, good evening, Hilda." He greeted her as she stood over him and went back to his meditation. "How are you?" He asked her without turning or even opening his eyes.

"I'm fine, thank you." She answered shyly and in a whisper, as if she the person she was conversing to was not her own best friend and hunting companion.

"That's good." He replied. "So why did you wanna come out here? Did you wanna talk to me or something?"

"Actually, yeah." Hilda replied, without being surprised that David had already known why she was with him. "I actually wanted to thank you, for saving Ace, and helping us out..." She then fidgeted like a nervous little girl, as David turned around and looked up at her.

"Uh-huh, no problem Hilda, I'd help you guys out anytime I could." David replied, as he stood up and swiftly turned back to his sights, which were a bunch of trees below within a small hill.

"Also..." Hilda then looked down at the ground sadly as her eyes started to tear up. "...I'm sorry..." She couldn't hold up her sadness any longer and hugged David from behind and simply cried on his back. "...I'm so sorry... I-I just missed you and all, a-and Ace was so much like you s-so much a-and..." Her voice was then muffled by her sobbing and tear, while David just listened attentively.

"It's alright Hilda..." David simply turned to her and hugged her back.

-Meanwhile-

King Webs had already called upon some of his spider scouts, venom soldiers or any spider in the area to search all over the nearby places to look for Kai and his two daughters, he had already heard of their sudden disappearance, the encounter with Kratos, the mysterious plague doctor and the ender being who had helped them. The news spread had spread very fast, after a few hours, majority of the other mobs families have heard about the spiders' disappearance, including both the skeletons and the creepers who took the news the hardest out of the other families. Ace and Hayden were already aware of this situation and were already planning a search for Kai and the spider sisters. Apparently, after the incident with Skull, Ace was back to his full self and Hayden was pretty okay himself, both of them were geared and waiting for the next night to occur. Yuki had also convinced Ace to let her come with him to help with the search, he was hesitant at first, but realized that Willow and Silk were her best friends too, and so he allowed her to come with them.

When the sunset occurred the next day, the three of them headed off, Hayden told the creepers sisters first so they wouldn't worry about him, they approved this since they knew what Hayden was capable off and knew he would be alright, or so they think. Apparently, after the dilemma with his heart being gone, Hayden still felt normal and humane, as if the heart was still there and never left. His severe bleeding was healed and the wound on his chest quickly regenerated, but his heart never came back and because of this he didn't tell anyone about the situation. He knew the thought of anyone knowing would cause a dilemma.

Nonetheless, the three of them initialized their search; they asked some of the royal spider scouts where they last reported location of the three.

"We've caught their scent, in the nearby grasslands just before the roofed forest biome." One of the blocky spider scouts replied when Yuki asked them.

"Was anyone else with them?" Ace asked with hint of concern.

"Yes, we caught four mysterious scents, three of which who are unknown to us but one in particular belonged to the former spider prince, Kratos" The humanoid spider scout replied to Ace, shuddering as he tried not to talk to much, Yuki had her eyes widened when she heard "Kratos" whilst Ace and Hayden nodded to the spider scout as they knew who the former prince was but they too were surprised to hear his name.

"I see, thank you for telling us." Ace thanked the two scouts, and he went off along with his two companions, going into the nearby grassland biome.

As they traveled towards the grasslands, Ace then thought about what happened to the three spiders, he knew it was about vengeance somehow, because he recalled Kai killing Kratos and claiming his head.

"So how did he live again..." Ace wondered, being totally baffled by Kratos' come back. "Unless that spider scout was lying to me, I don't think it was really Kratos who fought Kai. Even if it involves resurrection the theory still seemed a bit illogical and bizarre, even for me! Necromancers or Wizards could do so in this word but it would be impossible to do so for two reasons. The first is that they would need a part of Kratos to do so and I somewhat remember Kai mentioning that he had burned Kratos' body before taking his head and making it into a hat and that had been used to bring Kai back to life. The second is that no being in their right mind would bring Kratos back from the dead since everyone knows his reputation and wouldn't dare bring someone like him to life. The only conclusion that I can come up with is that the Spider scouts were probably mistaken and thought that the person they caught sent of was Kratos."

Then suddenly, Hayden suddenly stopped, who was in front of them and gestured for both of them to stop too. He then crouched down and looked at the ground and then looked up again as he felt his surroundings some more.

"What is it?" Ace asked

"I feel something strange... something undead..." Hayden said, as he tried to feel more of the area around, he felt a very undead aura, as if something was raised, no not just something, some things were apparently resurrected in that same area and it even made him nervous. "And I feel something... ender..." He felt a fading trail of ender dust, nearby but the trail lead nowhere since it had already been a day passed. "-Sigh-... the trail leads nowhere and it's just wierd. Something happened here but what."

"Well that's just great." Ace said, a bit disappointed. "Well all we have is this dried pool of blood" Ace was referring to the tiny hint of a combat which he stood on. Hayden turned to see the dried pool of blood but that didn't seem to be enough for helping them.

"Hey guys, I found something over here." Yuki yelled to them, as she had found something not far away, Ace and Hayden immediately rushed to her to see what she found. They then saw her standing beside some sort of tombstone, Hayden felt a very uneasy presence in the tombstone. "Here lies, the soul of Kratos, the Bane of all Spiders." Yuki had read it out loud, and found it surprising that someone had considered doing this.

"It looks like Kratos was here, but didn't last very long." Ace deducted and inspected the material that held the tombstone together. "Which means that the spiders were right about him being here but now there's a bigger problem. How did he get revived in the first place." Ace thought.

"Huh, this isn't normal cobblestone either... it's made out of... ashes..." Hayden said as he inspected the tombstone. The tombstone was in a darkened color and had no good or "holy" indication for the person who died, instead it looked creepy and intimidating, which was very fitting for someone like Kratos. "Hey, Hayden could you try to locate where this tombstone came from?" Ace had this idea, since the object was fairly unique.

"Hmm..." Hayden then tried to locate the origin of the tombstone, using the same technique from before. Yuki and Ace looked at Hayden as he inspected the tombstone some more. Yuki wondered how Hayden was able to do this while Ace was still wondering himself how Hayden can do something that is far beyond his tracking skills. "I got it, it came from a nearby graveyard, a bit far from here actually, it's in a grassland near some waters." The location he war referring to was the large graveyard, in the grassland coast, just past the hills from where they're standing.

"In that case, we'll need to get there, fast." Ace said, knowing that Kai and the spider sisters might be there.

"But how are we suppose to get their on foot. It would take a while." Yuki insisted.

The group then heard the sound of hooves stomping and galloping, as they saw a figure commanding two horses, followed by a horse cart. He was nearing them, but he was going to drive past them, giving them an opportunity to make him stop. Ace took the opportunity and gestured for the horse cart to stop, and to his oblige, the horseman stopped on his tracks, as he passed the trio making sure that the cart was right beside them. The horseman was a mysterious figure indeed, he was a humanoid and wore an enchanted diamond chest plate that appeared to be textured, plus some enchanted diamond leggings which were also textured, along with enchanted and textured iron boots, his face was covered with a knight's helmet, which was forged from diamonds and was crafted with fine texture. His horses on the other hand, were both skeletons, and were seemingly normal and tamed around him.

"What d'ya need?" A voice came underneath the helmet, and sounded kind of different, hill-like in some way plus some mountain man accent added.

"We need a lift." Ace replied to the horseman.

"Where to?" The horseman was a bit concerned about picking up strange, but heck these three don't look like much trouble to him.

"Are you going to a graveyard in the nearby biomes? or just nearby it?" Ace asked.

The horseman paused for a bit, thinking about it, his real destination was actually a town right past the graveyard, but he knew some things about the spooky graveyard and its guards.

"Mhm...I'll take ye." The horseman replied, and gestured for the trio to hop in. "C'mon in, and I'll take you there, faster than a cactus on spider back."

Ace took a sigh of relief, as he, Yuki and Hayden hopped inside the horse cart. Once inside the horseman shook his reigns and the horses continued to gallop on towards the graveyard.
