Chapter 37: Incursion

Sam looked at the people now gathered in the Gateroom; every gene-carrying individual was surrounded by as many other individuals as they could manage with every person in the room having physical contact with a gene carrier. The room was a sea of black due to the tactical dress that everyone was wearing; they had managed to alter the shield to cover part of the city so that every gene-carrier that didn't have military training would be safe from the transporter beam.

The technician next to her looked up and said; "the ship will drop out of hyperspace in the next couple of minutes."

"Thanks Chuck." She said, she in turn turned to address the group stood before her "the ship will be here any minute now, we don't know how long it will be before the beam you up so be prepared and lets bring our people home." She nodded to Major Lorne indicating that he should organise final preparations.

He couldn't move far as he was a gene carrier and needed to stay in touching distance of his assigned troops so from where he stood he called "Everyone grab a carrier; as soon as we are onboard fan out and neutralise any threats, nonlethal force where possible, once we have secured our position we will organise search and rescue teams." Every person reached out to touch their assigned carrier and they waited in expectant silence. They didn't have long to wait, within minutes there was a huge flash of white light. When the light subsided everyone snapped into action immediately, the outer ring of soldiers all had wraith stunners and they raised these firing at every individual that wasn't wearing a Lantean uniform. The next wave of soldiers moved towards the doors securing them and the corridors beyond.

Harvey watched in horror from one of the doorways as his men were systematically taken out, they had been told to expect approximately 30 to 40 people but he was looking at well over 150 well prepared soldiers, who had been expecting the abduction.

He turned to retreat down the nearest corridor but something hit his lower leg and he lost all feeling in his leg as it gave way beneath him. From where he lay on the floor he watched as a last of his men were taken out and the transport room was secured. A man separated himself from the group and walked over; Harvey had seen the other men referring to him and assumed that he was in charge. He crouched down next to Harvey "don't worry the feeling will come back to your leg in a couple of hours, you didn't have a weapon, are you in charge?"

Harvey nodded; he didn't think it was necessary to go into the specific hierarchy within the colony. "Good, last month you took some of our people I want to know where you're keeping them and I want to know where your control room is."

Heavy gaped at the man, he must be mistaken they were in a different galaxy according to the ship's computers "I think you are wrong, we have only been your galaxy for about a week now we haven't had time to take your people."

"Not in this galaxy, in the last galaxy you abducted 1037 people, a mixture of gene and non-gene carriers, military and civilian."

Harvey knew they were in trouble at this point; they had finally met a civilisation with advanced technology and they had pissed them off. "The prisoners are on level four, corridor seven, the control room is at the centre of the ship." He told them, he was a loss of what else to do.

The man turned his back on Harvey and called "Marquez, get your teams together you are going to head for the control room, if we can get control of the ship we can secure the locals and then get more of our people up here, take Teyla and Ronan with you." Turning to the other men standing behind him "the rest of you are with me, we're going to find the prisoners." Two of Marquez's men hefted Harvey up "where are the transporters?"

Harvey indicated the left hand door and the group set off, when they reach the transporter the guy who had been interrogating Harvey swiped at the modified door control. When the door opened he looked surprised by the size of the transporter, there was more than enough room for all of the men of his rescue squad to fit in. He indicated that his men should step in and then he turned to Harvey "you are going to take the rest of my men to your control room."

Harvey didn't say anything these men were well trained and had sophisticated technology, he wasn't going to resist. The door closed on the man called Lorne and when they opened again the transporter was empty. He was hustled in rapidly with the other men, it was obvious from their air of urgency that they were well aware of the fact that the element of surprise was massively to their advantage, one which would quickly wear off.

Harvey hit the button that would take them to the transporter closest to the control room, when they emerged he was surprised by the lack of people around, normally at this time of day it was thronging with people going about their business. Someone asked him which way the next and he pointed down one of the many corridors that branched off the main atrium. They moved forward but as they reached the second to last corner before they reached the control room the sound of fighting reached their ears.

The group slowed to a halt and Marquez selected a smaller group to move forward with him to assess the situation. It took them a couple of minutes to move safely into a position they could get a good visual from, and when they did in took Marquez a further minute to decipher what he was looking at. In the corridor in front of him was a group of individuals wearing the same uniform as their captive but it was a group they were fighting which was causing some confusion.

The other group was a ragtag mixture of men and women who wore any number of different styles of clothing, they were fighting with the same weapons as the uniformed group, and Marquez could only assume that they had been acquired elsewhere. Watching the group he suddenly realised that he recognized one of the members of the ragtag group as General O'Neill. Looking at the layout of the fight the plan began to form in his mind; he withdrew his small group only to return five minutes later with his entire unit.

The uniformed group were not aware of it but they were now trapped between two hostile forces. To avoid a friendly fire incident Marquez sent the men in his unit with stunners forward, they were quick and efficient, everyone picking their targets in advance. The enemy force never knew what hit them; every member was lying on the floor stunned within thirty seconds.

A/N: This chapter has taken me a ridiculously long time to finish as RL just keeps getting in the way :( You can mostly thank the guest reviewer (David) who left some wonderful compliments (I have not read the stargate books but its flattering to be told that my writing could be on par if not better), as well as the anonymous reviewer who managed to get the word crikey into the review (That is an awesome word that is not used nearly enough) for spurring me to get back to work. The next chapter just needs a little bit more tweaking so it will be posted tomorrow but for the time being something to whet your appetites
