So guys for quick clarification, Doctor Hedeinburg is the same scientist that Raphael pinned down when he freed himself, has the little scar over his eyebrow, and sent psychic messages to Raphael. The reason he recognized Raphael is because he kidnapped Raph nine years ago (as these two last chapters have explained). And if a bunch of you are outraged at why I said that Raphael had brown eyes even though he currently has bright green eyes: Hold on! Sheesh, I'm barely on the second part of the explanation. By the way "What Happened?" Is what Donnie, Mikey, and Leo saw on the monitor. That's why Leo was so mad, Mikey well...you'll see ;), and Donnie was confused. Well enjoy...I guess. :)
Chapter 14: What Happened? Part 2
In the scientist's lab… (Still Nine Years Ago)
"Mphgnh!" a muffled Raphael screeched.
"Ungag him." Dr. Hedeinburg ordered. Just like that, Gregorious and his henchmen did as he said.
"-LET ME GO!" Raphael was able to clearly state now. His whole top half of his head was bandaged, the chemicals did too much damage.
"Hmm, I'm not so sure if I could do that, see I need you." The head scientist replied rather calmly as he injected the tied up six year old mutated turtle with body tranquilizer.
"Need me for what?" the small turtle shot back, on the verge of tears as the liquid painfully flowed through his veins.
"Well see, I didn't just kidnap you because." He replied with a chuckle. "No, I kidnapped you for the secret to the building blocks of life, DNA."
"DNA?" Raphael asked with a yawn. The tranquilizer was taking effect quickly.
"Yes DNA. Because you were mutated, your DNA is special and has lots of open codes that humans like me, simply do not have." He said putting in some of Raphael's blood samples into vials. "And besides, I'm simply curious to see how your brain would react to lots of different things."
"Now let's see how your recovery of your eyes is doing." The scientist said, rather enthusiastically, as he put on some disposable plastic gloves.
"What do you mean, is this why I can't see?"
"You can't see because I bandaged you after the surgery we performed on you while you were asleep."
"I was asleep?! Here with you guys?! I don't think I'll forgive myself."
The scientist let out a light hearted laugh. This kid was actually not that bad.
"Wait, did you say…surgery?!"
"Yes, yes I did."
"Oh, I'm feeling sick. What did you do to me? Pull my guts out?!"
"Oh no, none of that. I just had to erase as much damage that the chemical performed on your eyes so you aren't handicapped to any of the tests we're going to run on you." The scientis said carefully unwrapping his head so that it wouldn't hurt as much.
Raphael whimpered, his open cuts were exposed to the air.
"Owie, owie, owie…" he grimaced while fighting the urge to rub his cuts.
"Hmm, let me see if I have any disinfectant. the scientist pondered while walking to his cupboard.
"Can I open my eyes now?" Raphael asked, rather impatiently.
"I highly suggest you don't—" but it was too late. Raphael made his way towards the closest mirror and he froze, taking in his new image.
"I- I look like a monster… I LOOK LIKE A MONSTER!" Raphael began to cry as he softly stroked his scarred face. His newly bright green eyes began to well up with tears. He began to tremble then he fell on the floor cold.
"Oh dear…GET ME EMERGENCY!" Dr. Hedeinburg shouted at one of his men. As they went looking for medical attention on the far wing of the building, the scientist scooped up the passed out turtle, as one of his own. "You will be fine, I promise." He whispered to the turtle.
So he has taken a liking to MY son? After he hurts him?! Master Splinter thought as he looked inside through the vents in the ceiling. He had made his way into the vents to at least look out for Raphael as he thought out a plan to save him without causing further damage. He looked as the scientist medics grabbed Raphael, strapped on an oxygen mask, and strapped him onto the gurney. They rolled him out of the room with great urgency.
"Do not worry my son, I will rescue you." Master Splinter whispered to himself, mostly for comfort. He quietly crawled out of the vent system as he thought about what had happened in the last 15 hours.
"Sensei, where's Raphie?" Mikey asked between sobs, while he was being tucked into bed. Splinter thought about something quick to say.
"Well, he is just fighting off the bad guys because he got ultra-strength…? You know how strong he is." Master Splinter lied. Mikey just gave him a weak smile.
"Yeah, he is a super hero." Mikey replied finally yawning and peacefully drifting asleep to the thought. "He's always been my hero…" Mikey began to snore soundly. As soon as Mikey was surely asleep, the smile painted on Splinter's face was exchanged for worry and quiet tears.
Donnie was already asleep, or so he said. Splinter could clearly hear him sobbing. He couldn't bear to see him like that so he headed for Leonardo's room.
Once he opened the door Leonardo was already tucked in facing away from the door. Splinter couldn't tell if he was asleep already. Before he opened his mouth to speak Leonardo spoke.
"He isn't ever coming back is he?" Leonardo asked coldly. Splinter had to think up something to say to him too.
"It's a yes or no question sensei, answer me!" Leonardo turned to face Splinter. That's when Splinter saw the endless tear stains on his face.
"If it weren't for your dumb pride and "discipline", we would have Raph here too!" Leo shouted at him. Splinter would have yelled at his son to be more respectful but he was right. He just walked out of the room and turned off the light. Determined than ever Splinter hunted his son down.
He made his way to the exact spot they took Raphael was taken at in the sewers. There he found the emblem of a building, he had seen in New York City before he mutated, on the robots he had demolished earlier. With that information he found where they had taken Raphael.
There he climbed into the vent system to sniff out his son, even though it was pretty tough to with all the strong chemicals from the labs. He was wiser as to see what was happening underneath him. He heard deafening screams, pleas for help in all different areas of the building.
He just cringed and tried to move past faster. Then, there he was.
Splinter finally climbed out of the vent system and hitched up a plan crazy enough to work.
