B forgot how to breathe for a moment. L's coming back. L. Is. Coming. Back. B was just staring at K and he most likely looked very stupid, because she started to laugh at him.
"Are you sure that's what he said?" B asked, his voice hoarse.
"Yes that's what A told me."
B put his palm to his forehead and ran his fingers through his hair, a small smile beginning to form on his lips. He felt weird. He felt happy.
…
As the pair walked through the foyer on their way upstairs, they came across Roger and Murphy standing at the door. They looked out the window at all the white dust swirling through the air, covering everything in sight. There was no way Murphy was getting his car out of the driveway. It was covered almost past the wheels in snow.
"You're probably going to have to stay the night, its too dangerous to be driving now." Roger said.
Murphy shook his head. "I've already stayed for dinner I don't want to seem like a burden"
"Oh please," He nudged the man on the shoulder. "Don't even worry about it."
"Well if you insist, where will I sleep?"
B clenched his jaw. He was probably going to stay until midday tomorrow. Great.
"There's tons of spare rooms in this house just find one and make yourself at home." He said with a gentle smile. He turned to look at K and B. "Yo two show him to a room, if you don't mind."
...
He was sweating again. He opened his eyes to a bright light above him, struggling to focus his vision. he soon realized he was in an off white room, sitting in a porcelain tub. He was in a bathroom. The white tiles on the floors and walls were caked with dirt, as if they hadn't been washed in years. He watched as a roach crawled from under the tub, making its way behind the toilet and disappearing. He shuddered.
There was suddenly a vicious knocking at the door.
"Come on outta there!" the voice shouted.
B jumped at the sound, not knowing what was going on. Why was he in the tub? He put his hand on the edge and tried to stand up when a sharp pain in his head sent him back down.
"I know you're in there..." the voice slurred.
B sat in the tub, a wave of fear rushing through his body. Why was he so scared? The door suddenly slammed open, and the familiar figure of a man stood in the door frame. He was dark and tall. B couldn't see his face. Two hands wrapped around his neck, cutting off his breathing.
"B."
He tried to breathe in but couldn't. He looked up, everything was white.
"Beyond!"
Suddenly darkness consumed the room, and everything was black. His vision focused and he saw the cracked plaster of his ceiling. He was awake now. B rolled onto his side and began coughing, he felt a hand touch his shoulder. He looked to see K sitting beside him on the bed, and A in the bed next to them also watching. They both had worried looks on their faces. B must've been screaming.
Although he despised it, B had been taking his medicine regularly. It served its purpose, he didn't lash out at people as much, but in turn it made him hallucinate and he was always tired, sleeping more than usual. He didn't like to sleep often, and when he did, 9 times out of 10 he was having a nightmare. The medicine made it worse; it was harder to wake up.
B rubbed his forehead. "I'm sorry." He said quietly, pushing the blankets off of him. He wanted to get away from them, he was embarrassed. B hated when people saw him sleeping. He went to stand up when K placed her hand on his chest, pushing him back down.
"Are you alright?" She asked.
His face was warm. "Yes I...I'm fine."
"You looked so afraid..." K said to him. "When you woke up."
She placed her hand on his, he was shaking. He just stared at her.
"Here, I'll sleep with you tonight." K got under the blankets with him.
"K you don't have to do that..."
"No, I want to."
Its not like B could've stopped her. K did what she wanted. She lay close to him, but did her best not to touch him. A laid back down, burrowing under his blankets, keeping his eyes uncovered so he could watch the two in the bed beside him. K played with a strand of her hair.
"So, can you tell me what happened?"
B was laying on his back, staring up at the ceiling. Why was she here? He could feel the warmth of her body through his clothes. He wanted her to leave. But he also wanted her to stay and talk to him.
"B."
"What?"
"Your dream."
"Oh."
He played with his fingers. She knew about his nightmares; she knew that for B, sleeping was difficult. He never wanted to talk about them with Murphy; he didn't even know about them. But K knew, and he would always vent to her, she was a good listener.
"Its that man again." B said quietly.
…
He couldn't fall back asleep; he didn't exactly want to fall back asleep, anyways. He was on his back, staring up at the white ceiling. He turned his head to look at K, who was asleep beside him. She was curled up in a ball, her hands close to her face. She looked cold. B sat up, the blankets falling off of his shoulders. He shivered.
B was bored. He couldn't sleep. He wanted to smoke, but it was cold. The bed was so warm. He looked back down at K. He noticed a strand of her hair hanging across her face. B wanted to tuck it behind her ear, it was bothering him. He was scared to touch her though, so he just stared at her. B shivered again, more violently this time. It was way too cold. He stood up; he was going to smoke now.
B walked over to his window and looked outside, it didn't look windy. He opened the window and took one step onto the roof, immediately regretting roof was covered in at least a foot of snow, and he was stepping in it. One quick smoke, he told himself, wiping the snow away with his foot so he could sit. He left the window cracked behind him and sat down. It was so dark out. The street lamps were on, coating the snow with their ugly yellow light. B lit his cigarette and tried to smoke it quickly, his feet were already frozen.
He was halfway done when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around to see K climbing out of the window, half asleep.
"K, what are you..." He questioned as she carefully placed her bare feet onto the icy roof.
"I'm coming out."
"Go back inside." He said, realizing after what he had said. He had just been complaining to K earlier that she wasn't around him enough, and now he was telling her to go away. He was contradicting himself; he had to stop doing that.
It was too late anyways she was already on top of him. Her feet were slipping and she was leaning on his shoulder. He wrapped his arm around her waist to support her weight as she sat down beside him.
She shivered.
"...Freezing." She said sleepily.
B laughed as he took a drag from his cigarette. "Go back inside then."
She shook her head slowly. K watched him smoke, the red glow of the cigarette lighting up his face. He looked so pretty, staring off into the darkness, his tired eyes half closed. B blew the smoke out of his nose slowly, then side eyed K.
"What?" He asked.
"Nothing, just watching."
He gave her a look and put the cigarette back in his mouth. "I don't want you near me while I smoke, K, it's bad for you."
"I'll do what I want."
A low roll of thunder could be heard in the distance.
"...It's alright I'm done anyways." He sucked the rest of the life out of the cigarette and left the butt sitting in the white snow. "C'mon."
He took hold of her wrist and they went back inside. A gust of cold hair rushed through the room and A shuffled under his blankets.
"Close that window." He groaned, rolling over to look at them. "What the hell are you guys doing?"
They said nothing and got back into B's bed. A was so nosy it got on B's nerves.
"Is someone going to answer me? You guys woke me up."
"I was smoking A why are you worrying about it?!" B snapped at him.
"Woah no need to get angry B," A said. "Maybe you should take some medicine."
B eyes widened. "...What are you talking about."
"B do you think I'm stupid or something?" A laughed. "I've seen you taking those pills I know you're on medication again because you can't control yourself."
B wanted to punch him in the face. "How about you mind your business."
"C'mon go get your pills, I'll even pour you a glass of water."
B got up to attack A but K pulled him back down onto the bed.
"B don't."
"B there's no reason to be angry-"
"A shut the fuck up." K hissed at him.
B sat up.
"See look now he's going to run away like a five year old, like he always does-"
"Shut up A!"
B's arms tingled.
"I'm going to go to the bathroom." He said quietly.
K squeezed his arm. "No, B."
She could see that look in his eyes, it was dark. She knew what he was going to go do.
"K let go." He whined.
"No, come on, lay down... go to sleep."
She pushed him down next to her, gave A a dirty look, then laid down.
"I'm too angry to sleep." He mumbled as she yanked the thick blankets on top of them.
His nose was cold, his feet were wet, his head hurt, he was annoyed.
"Here let me help you."
"How?"
She rolled onto her side so she was facing him. "I'm going to play with your hair, close your eyes."
"That's not going to work." He scoffed.
"Shh it'll help you relax," She hushed him. "Just close your eyes."
B sighed deeply and closed his eyes. She put one of her hands in his hair, resting her arm on his shoulder. She twirled a piece of his hair between two of her fingers, making sure she didn't pull on it. She played with it for a little while before moving onto a new strand, and doing the same again. B relaxed at her touch, soon beginning to doze off. He could feel her gentle breathing on his cheek before he gave in to slumber.
