Buh BAM READY FOR SOME PLOT TWISTS? I SURE WASNT
Not only a day ago were you going about your daily, secluded life. What had even happened. What exactly was going to happen? How...how could it have come to this. Everything you had tried to push out of your mind to continue with your life had come back in an immediate flash, and you were nowhere near excited about this at all. Who would look after the tree? Who knows if you would ever get to see it again...all you knew is that you were not going to give Thranduil the satisfaction with this little meeting.
As you made your way into the kings hall, you made sure to keep your head up this time. Legolas escorted you right up to Thranduil's throne, and with a flick of his wrist the king motioned for him to leave the room. Now it was just him and you. Yup. This was going to be a grand old time. You stared straight into his eyes and he always remembered to stare right back into yours, and this continued for a few minutes. There was so much to understand in that funny brain of his, he was probably thinking about what kind of wash he was going to use on his hair next so give it that extra shine. Or he was thinking about how he was going to keep you a prisoner there forever. Yeah, probably the second idea. You knew how this guy worked, though; as soon as you would open your mouth to speak, he would make sure to step in and ensure that he had the first word just to make you spit fire. Time to test it out again, for old times sake, "Thrand-"
"Kiev," his soft voice tuning you out as always.
"Thr-"
"Kiev."
You decided to kept quiet now...praying so intensely that someday soon his healthy hair would get split ends.
He lifted himself out of his seat and threw off his long, silver robes. Predictable. He slowly made his way down the stone steps until he had made his way over to you, bending down a bit in the process to get to your eye level. He remained just a little above you, though, just to assert his stupid elvish dominance.
Two steel blue eyes. Piercing, but nothing new to you. The silence was cut off by his voice, but quieter this time.
"What did I do?"
"Pardon?"
"Why did you leave?"
You froze. Out of everything that could have happened, exile, feeding you to a pack of raving orcs, leaving you to get stepped on by an adult Oliphaunt...why did he have to ask you that question? It made you feel worse than anything else. For you see, there was no explanation rather than your interests differed from those of the kingdom. Yet it wasn't exactly like there was some terribly reason you had left. They weren't hurting you, they weren't forcing you to work, they had adopted you and welcomed you into their life when you had no recollection of your own. And you just left them.
"I had my reasons."
"Those being?"
"My own."
Thranduil's temper looked like it had been held in for much too long; he grabbed you by your wrists and looked as though he was about to turn into a dragon himself and rip off your head. He opened his mouth to as if to say something, but nothing came out. It was through his aggression that you realized what you had done; he was burdened by sadness. He just wouldn't admit it, but you saw it. His gaze begged for answers, you had never even given him warning that you were planning on deserting them when you did. You saw the face of the young prince whom you were so close with in youth, he was tormented. He realized his tightened grip was hurting your wrists, and quickly let go and spun around, and whispered, "Please tell me what I did wrong."
You couldn't take it anymore, "It was not your fault."
"Then who's was it?"
"Nobodies..but my own."
"You have to give me more than that...I have been waiting for this moment for years."
He turned back to facing you once again, "there is so much I wanted to say to you. To tell you. To ask you. There was so much I needed to know, but now that the time has come and we are face to face once again..I can't even remember the first of it. Kiev, if there was anybody and still is anybody who knows me better than anyone..it is you."
"Thranduil, I...couldn't tell you."
"I thought you could tell me anything. I told you everything."
You sulked, "I was afraid that if I told you that you would follow me."
"And you're right. I would have."
"I couldn't allow you to carry my burden."
"I am not even aware of the burden that you carry, Kiev!"
Your uneasiness turned into a spout of frustration, and you began to raise your voice, "Who is it that has no recollection of her family line? Who is it that has never-ending visions of part I am to play in this darkness that roams the world? Who was it in this entire kingdom who sought to reunite with the outside world and serve my skills," you took a deep breath, and slowed down, "who was it that felt like she never belonged anywhere.."
Thranduil stared blankly at you. It was like staring at a wall, you had no idea what would jump out from behind it.
"I," he began again,"you and I...I thought we would always be together."
That was what struck you even harder, "you know it could never have happened," you responded coldly.
"I had feelings for you that I don't think you will ever understand, Kiev."
When was this ever going to end?
