In this chapter, Hiro is a little bit of a cocky prick. But he kinda has a reason.
After an hour or two of waiting for Beymax to finish his process, without the help of the doctor, the still armored nurse bot walked out of the room. "Vital signs very low, probability of survival minimal. But stable for now."
Hiro slumped his head, "Is she awake?"
"No, she hasn't been awake since she fell asleep on the way here." The robot walked up beside Hiro and patted his back. "There, there. Everything will work itself out in the end."
Hiro relayed the message with the group via text, then slumped again. "Beymax, is their anything you can do. I mean it's internal bleeding and a fractured arm, no one dies from that."
"Upon closer inspection i found a few more problems including, a sizable amount of external bleeding, several deep scars and several deep open wounds. Upon examination of the blood i found high levels of dopamine."
Hiros head slowly rolled back till it rested against the wall behind him, "Thank you Beymax, i think i'll keep that to myself." Brains for your sake i hope those are just old wounds that never healed. "Is there anyway to wake her up?"
"Not that i programs know of that are also safe at this time. Should i take off my armor?"
"What, no?! Not right now. I guess the only thing we can do is wait."
"Sorry son, but that's not the only thing you're going to be doing, we have a few questions for you." A gruff male voice came from down the hall. Hiro turned to see three police officers, one was holding a pen and pad of paper, another had his hand waiting near his gun, as if he was expecting to be attacked. The last was leaning against the wall, obviously not wanting to be here, he wore a large baseball hat for the SFIT team, and he kept his eyes glued to the floor. The guinness just shrugged his shoulders and waited for the questions. "First off, what is your name?"
He gave a mock laugh and deadpanned, "Ha, funny. Why do you think i wear the mask, for the kick?"
"Now there is no need to be like that, i need a name." The officer with the notepad said.
Hiro spoke slowly, emphasizing his words with hand gestures. "That's nice for you, but we have to wear these, so people don't know who we are."
"Look you little brat, just give us a name!" That was the officer with his hand over his gun, and Hiro couldn't help but notice that when he spoke his hand moved ever closer to it.
"Ha, no. Now if you have any other questions lets hear them." He leaned back in his chair and put his hands behind his head.
"Why i oughta-" The same man started, but the man leaning against the wall put out a hand and slowly shook his head. "fine, but if i get a change…"
"Oh, i see you guys are rookies, and he's the real officer." Hiro said very matter a factly, pointing to the leaning officer. "I'm call you dumb rookie," He pointed to the man with his hand now on his gun. "And you can be smart rookie." He moved his finger to the man with the pad, "Because you're smart enough to know that you're not supposed to aggravate the suspect, or you will never get anything from him. I'm open to any questions, that are not about my identity, or his or hers." He moved his finger again to point out Beymax than in the direction of the room.
The smart rookie smiled at the dumb one, "So, can i get something to call you, not necessarily your name, just something to refer to you as?"
"Just call me," He thought for a second, and a wide grin crossed his face, not that they could see it. "Hero, because we're part of the team that took down Krie, twice." The third cop gave a soft chuckle.
"Well , why are you here?" He scribbled something down in his pad.
"Because my friend," He pointed to the room again, "was nearly killed in our fight against Krie, so we took her to the closest hospital. The idiot doctor was more concerned with people who are perfectly fine, than the girl who almost died."
"Ok, you say you are part of a team, how many of you are there?" He didn't lift his head from his pad.
"seven," He looked at the room for a second, "Probably six after today. How do you now know of us, Big Hero six, we do half your guys jobs for you."
"Listen punk," The dumb rookie spoke. "Answer the questions that are asked."
"You know, good cop bad cop only works if it's not obvious that you're doing it." He cocked his head, "And if there are only two cops, what's your story third guy." He didn't speak, "Oh, you're the silent, fear me, type. I can dig it. But the real question here is, why do they need you? I mean if you're just going to stand there and not talk, why don't you go back to the expo hall and make sure everyones ok?" Nothing.
"Excuse me sir, can you please leave the questions to us, now how bad is your friend hurt?"
"Buddy, give his the run down. Everything, besides her name." Beymax relayed the things he told Hiro. "So third guy, do you speak english, you must because you stopped the dumb rookie from speaking. Anyway-"
"Stop talking punk, we ask the questions." The dumb rookie's had was on his gun and he removed the clip that holds it in place.
"Oh, you're so scary. Buddy, show him scary." Beymax lifted his fist, looked to Hiro.
"Balalalala." He pulled back his fist like he just fist bumped someone. Hiro facepalmed, and the cops exchanged a strange look.
"Rocket fist, but don't shoot it." Beymax lifted his fist once again. The four thrusters deployed and fired up, but it didn't go off. "I travels faster than your dumb little bullet would, and robot, so fast reaction time than you could physically have. Don't threaten me."
"Let's just everyone calm down, lets not let things get out of hand. There is no need for threats, we are almost done with questions." The smart cop said, raising his hands to try and calm each of the bickerers down. "Just a few more questions, is there any reason you went to this hospital in particular?"
"I'm assuming nothing other than it's close."
"Assuming? What do you mean, you came here?"
"He flew us here, i don't know why specifically, it is the closest, so that is most likely why."
"Ok, just two more questions, You say you were fighting Krei, as in Alister krie of Krie tech?" Hiro nodded, not thinking it needed a verbal response. "So he came back after he escaped, for a vendetta against you and your team?"
"Yup, we arrested him first, then Ugi broke him free. You probably don't know about him, kinda tall, has a cybernetic leg, unimportant. Anyway Krei enslaved a load of people, mostly younger people. She was one of them, but thats not what you asked. Yes, he hates…" He stopped for a second and counted off the members of the team Krei directly hated. "All of us, but mostly three of us."
"Ok, wow thank you, last question. Do you know this man?" The cop held up a photo, Hiro nudged closer to get a better look, it was a man. He was semi tall, had brown hair with a few strides of gray, he wore a trench coat and black clothes underneath.
"Is that Robert Callahan, it looks like him?" The cop nodded, "Ya, my team took him down too. Just more things we did for the police, you know he actually was going to teach me in school, than that happened. He went crazy, stole that kids micro bots. Now Krie is nothing more than a copycat, and get this, Abigail Callahan, The girl we saved from that portal, is dating Krei. Can you be-?"
The third cop finally spoke, but he didn't just speak calmly, he exploded forth from his spot leaning against the wall, his voice was strangely familiar to Hiro, "SHE IS WHAT?!" He still kept his head down, hiding his face from Hiro vision.
"I know right, i mean i know her father was a dirt bag. Even if he was amazing at robotics. I think he drove her right into his hands, you know-"
The last cop closed the last few feet between them and grabbed hold of Hiro suit. " YOU SHUT UP ABOUT MY DAUGHTER!" The last cop staried dead into Hiros eyes past his mask. It was Robert Callahan. "HIRO JUST SHUT UP!"
"M-Mr. C-Callahan. What are you doing out of prison, you nearly killed Krei and ruined his entire business expansion. That should have put you in jail for far longer than how long you were in for." The cops at the other side of the hall exchanged an awkward look.
"Never mind that Hiro, how do you know this?!" He have the small boy a quick shake.
"Hey, because i saw it happen, they both nearly killed me and right now you're really aggravating that wound, and me." He was promptly dropped, not even releasing that Callahan had lifted him a full foot off the floor, and Callahan walked back to the other side of the hall beside the other cops, "Wait, so what's really going on here? He's not a cop, so you two can't be rookies. Well good thing you're out of question because i'm done answering, see ya." Hiro crossed his arms. Beymax looked at hiro, then back to the cops. Than mimicked Hiros action.
"Well i think we have what we came here for. Thank you for your cooperation ." All the cops walked back down the hall. Hiro let out a deep sigh, thinking it he was done with emergencies for the night. But only a received a short respite, because in the room a loud beeping rung out through the closed door.
"Beymax, quick we go to get in there." Hiro was up and in the room before he even finished his sentence, the nurse bot a step behind. The darkness quickly surrounded him, "Lights, Beymax." The lights flickered on, Brains lay on the bed in front of them, her black hair falling haphazardly on the pillow, wires snaked down under the white blanket that covered her, the culprit of the beeping was the heart rate monitor. The line had gone flat, only broken up once every second or two, "Beymax quickly help her!" Beymax quickly threw back the blanket, revealing her deep blue armor, stained pink near the wrists and forearm. Her sheets also spattered with pink spots. His gloved hands moved quickly, moving cables and checking her iv's. He pressed once on her chest, the beeping quickly increased.
After a few more attempts to fix her heart rate beymax found something that worked, he injected her with adrenaline. Her eyes shot open, and a deep moan left her mouth, "It… hurts...everywhere." She breathed, Her eyes seaming to lazily close again. But the beeping stopped.
"Brains, are can you hear me? Brains!"
"Stop… yelling… headache… everywhere... aches."
"I know, we're trying to help you, i don't know how longer you will be awake. But everythings going to be ok, it's going to work out."
"Thanks… Hiro… Where's… Fred…?" her breathing became rigid and she coughed a few times, splattering her hand with flakes of blood.
" I don't know, me and Beymax brought you to the nearest hospital as fast as we could." His speaking began to brake, he quickly fixed it. Trying to hold back the tide of emotions threatening to break free and flood out of him.
"Tell… Him… Goodbye…" Her eyes closed fully, the beeping returned and she let out a long breath. Before Hiro could even speak, the beeping turned to a monotone note.
"Beymax, bring her back!" Hiro shouted, looking to the nurse bot, who in turn shook his head. A tear quickly escaped his eyes. "See's gone, no coming back from it."
Dun dun dun! Sorry, someone had to die! Mainly because i was trying to fall asleep the other night, and i my mind started to write a eulogy for a dead character.(Don't ask why that happened, i don't know.) But ya no she is dead.
