The lock on the big metal door popped open. The door swung open and Sesshomaru entered after it. "We didn't find him."
Kagome eyes dropped to the ground and she didn't reply. Sesshomaru walked her up to her room and paused at the door. His eyes softened and he began to say something, but just as he was about to speak, his eyes went cold and he walked away.
Kagome got into her room and began contemplating.
Should I go find him and try to take out the shards? Even if I do, will the evil still linger?
She didn't know. She tried to think of a solution, but to no avail.
A knock sounded at the door. Kagome opened it to find a lovely servant girl. "Lord Sesshomaru has summoned you to the private dining parlor." She paused for a moment and looked at Kagome. "I will give you some time to get dressed." She bowed and turned from the door.
Kagome closed the door, slightly offended. She scoured her room in search of something to wear, and settled on a simple deep purple yukata. She combed her hair and put it up. She opened the door.
The girl was still there, and upon hearing the door, turned around. She frowned slightly and sighed. "Alright. I will show you to the parlor."
Kagome followed her to the far end of the castle, and ended before a room with a deep wood door. As the girl opened it, she saw a cozy room with floor cushions and a small, low table. The table was covered in food, mostly food that could be eaten with your hands. The girl, whose name she had forgotten to ask, came by with a wet towel for her to wash her hands with.
As she turned to leave, Kagome stopped her. "What's your name?"
"Sumiko." She smiled, then continued to leave.
Kagome sat across from Sesshomaru, trying to sit as properly as possible. Sesshomaru immediately got up and moved to the seat next to hers, casual sitting down and beginning to eat.
With a slight smile on his face, he turned to Kagome. "You look very nice tonight." He reached out to tough her hair, and fell just short.
Kagome blushed, and involuntarily leaned back a little. "How is Rin?" She asked, hoping to distract him.
"She's fine. She's helping out with the injured."
"That's nice of her." She stopped grew serious. "What happened today?"
"Inuyasha got free somehow and tore his way out. He ripped through bodies and doors alike, trying to get out as fast as possible. I managed to save the servants who died that weren't in pieces, but some of them were torn to shreds and I couldn't revive them. By the time any of the guards could retaliate, he was already gone." Sesshomaru switched his glance to the food. "I would have preferred to talk about this later, or perhaps even tomorrow, but when you asked, I felt I had to respond." He picked through some food on the table. "The guards aren't even sure how he got out. It looks like someone broke him out, but the guards plead innocence. Did you by chance go see him?"
Kagome was slightly taken aback. She had just been subtly accused of setting Inuyasha free. "I did, but I didn't break him out. I just wanted to hear his side."
"What did he say?" Sesshomaru's eyes were cold.
"He said it was an accident. I don't know if I believe him." Kagome averted her eyes from Sesshomaru's gaze. "I saw something… That day in the garden. He had shards of the Shikon Jewel in his arm. I think it's making him evil."
"He can't be left to roam." At this point even his voice was cold.
"I know. I just t think maybe we should look for Shippo first. He's out there all alone, and I don't know what Inuyasha will do to him." Kagome looked away, feeling guilty. She knew she should just let Inuyasha go, but she couldn't bring herself to turn her back on someone she once called a friend.
"I will. Once I do, I will find Inuyasha and bring you his head." Sesshomaru was clearly angry at this point, as he got up and left.
Kagome was left to sit there and ponder on what she'd just done.
A/N- Alright that one was a little longer, and I'm gonna try to keep them coming. I know this is all very long overdue, but I assure you that I'm doing my best and I'll keep writing like there's no tomorrow! Thanks for reading!
