Chapter 13

(Jason's POV)

I woke up about an hour after everyone else had gone to sleep. I could hear them snoring and decided now was the best time to make my move. I transformed into my Celebi form and made sure they were still asleep before making another move. The snores continued from both Meema and Janice, meaning they were both asleep. I floated down and tried to use Psychic to pick up my bag. I could barely get it off the ground and decided to try something else. I transformed back into my human form and slowly opened the door. It creaked a little, and the hallway was dark, thank goodness, and I carefully picked up my bag and sneaked out.

I closed the door gently and guided the handle back into place, careful to make as little noise as possible, and started to head out. The lobby was still well lit, I guess in case any Trainers came by, and Nurse Joy was nowhere to be seen.

'Most likely,' I thought, making my way to the door, 'she's in the back tending to some wounded Pokemon.' I left the Center with no problems and made my way to Sprout Tower. It wasn't hard to figure out where it was; other than the gym it was the only tower in Violet City. I made my way across the two bridges, which went over a very large koi pond that had a small island in the center. After crossing the second bridge, I looked up at the tower looming above me and went inside.

As I made my way up, I was challenged by several men dressed in robes, all of them using Bellsprout. I decided this would be a good opportunity to train my own Bellsprout some more, as well as let Sting and Monarch train for a bit. I made my way up the tower, at one point actually having to go back down, but eventually I made it to the top of the tower. I made my way past the swaying pillar and to an open area, where I saw Will standing with his back to me. He turned around and saw me, a big smirk on his face.

"Looks like you made it," he said. "A little early, but that's alright. You said anytime and anywhere, right?" I nodded and then his cool smirk turned into an enraged frown. "Hey, where's Janice! I told you to bring her with you." The thought had completely slipped my mind, and he continued to rant by saying, "I wanted her here so she could see me wipe the floor with you." He calmed down and said, "No matter, I'll just call her on her Poke-Gear."

It began to ring after he pressed a few buttons and in a few seconds I heard Janice's tired voice, "Hello?"

"Hey Janice, I believe your boyfriend forgot something. Midnight? Sprout Tower?" I heard Janice gasp and scramble around, probably to wake me up, and Will called out, "Don't bother, he's right here." He pointed the Poke-Gear at me and I held up a hand to block out some of the light coming from the Poke-Gear. "I suggest you get over here so you can see me beat him." Before she could even reply, Will ended the call and we were back in darkness.

"So what's it gonna be, chump? Are you going to accept my challenge, or are you gonna wuss out?"

I growled angrily, "I never back down from a challenge. You would do well to remember that."

"I will, but first let the battle begin." Three lanterns suddenly lit up behind me and I turned to see it was the men in robes who had lit the lanterns. Three more lanterns lit up behind Will, again by the robed men. "Here's the deal, this is a three on three battle. Items won't be allowed and you can't switch out your Pokemon until they've fainted. When a Pokemon faints, a lantern will be put out. When all three lanterns are out, not only do you lose but you're also trapped here until dawn." I nodded and Will pulled out his first Poke Ball.

"Alright, come out Ledyba!" A small, ladybug-like Pokemon came out. It had six arms with small white hands, each in a fist. It had very large eyes and two long antennae, meaning it was male.

I pulled out my Pokedex and pointed at it, "Ledyba, the Five Star Pokemon. Ledyba are so timid that they can't move unless it is with a swarm of other Ledyba or with a trainer. It conveys its feelings with scent." That last part I didn't need to know that it was scared. Its eyes and shaky body language said it all, this Pokemon was terrified. Whether it was the battle, the dark, or its trainer I couldn't tell.

"Okay, then. Let's go, Monarch!"

Monarch, as soon as he came out, stretched his wings and said, "Alright, who are we facing now?" He took one look at Will and knew that this was it.

"I thought you'd bring out Typhon to start, but oh well. Ledyba, show em what you got!"

"Yes sir," the Ledyba said, apparently calming down.

'I guess it was scared of battling Typhon after all.'

"Go now, Mach Punch!" The Ledyba quickly flew to Monarch and gave it a quick jab before flying back.

Monarch was pushed back only a little, considering that he only took a quarter damage, and I shouted out, "All right, use Stun Spore now!" Monarch quickly recovered and began to flap its wings. Golden scales began to fall around and on the Ledyba, and it cringed as the paralysis took hold.

'Nice, now that he's perfected it, he'll be able to use it more often. Other than that, he still has PoisonPowder, as well as Confusion and a recently acquired Gust.'

"Ledyba, get up!" My attention shifted back to Will and I saw he was shouting at Ledyba. It was having a hard time getting back up, and I figured I should finish it now before something bad happened.

"Monarch, use Gust!" Monarch began flapping its wings at high speeds, creating a powerful wind that struck the Ledyba dead on. It was lifted up into the air and over to Will, who caught it.

"Ledyba, come on," he said, looking at the weakened Pokemon in his arms, "I know you can still fight. Now get up and prove it!" The Ledyba stirred and began flying again, and Will shouted, "Okay, now use Comet Punch!" The Ledyba began to fly over to Monarch, when it suddenly froze up, paralyzed.

I couldn't take this anymore, "Monarch, Gust." I closed my eyes as Monarch delivered the final blow, and one of Will's lanterns went out. I just couldn't stand to watch that poor Ledyba take a hit, especially after Will yelled at it like that.

"Alright, so you beat my weakest Pokemon, big deal." I looked back at Will, who smirked as he put away the Ledyba's Poke Ball and pulled out a new one. "Let's see how you deal against this, go Pidgey!" The small bird Pokemon came out and I decided to get some data on it as well.

"Pidgey, the Tiny Bird Pokemon. It is docile and prefers to avoid conflict. If disturbed, however, it can ferociously strike back."

I looked back up at the battle and said, "Okay Monarch, you ready?"

"Yeah, let's keep this trainer in the dark."

"Monarch, use PoisonPowder!"

"Pidgey use Quick Attack!" As Monarch began to flap its wings as the Pidgey suddenly flew straight for it and began attacking repeatedly with Quick Attack.

"Monarch, use Gust to blow it away!"

"Use your own Gust and do the same!" The two began flapping their wings at high speeds, but the Pidgey was clearly stronger and in a single burst of wind, Monarch was blown into the ceiling, crashing into it.

"Monarch!" I shouted. Monarch fell after the Gust attack ended and I raced out to catch him. I caught him just in time and held him close.

"Monarch, come on," I telepathed to him, tears welling up in my eyes. "Please, speak to me."

Monarch stirred, and weakly said, "I'm sorry Jason, I wasn't strong enough." His eyes turned to swirls, signifying he had fainted and one of my lanterns went out. I hugged Monarch and began to cry when I heard Will laughing his head off.

My sadness turned to rage, and he said, "Looks like your butterfly wasn't able to keep up with my Pidgey. How pathetic, a fully evolved Pokemon losing to a Pokemon in its first form."

I returned Monarch and then whispered, "Shut up."

"I'm sorry, what?"

"I said shut up!" My voice rang out loud enough to be heard throughout the tower and I began to cry. "You don't care about your Pokemon, do you!? All you care about is whether or not they're strong enough!" I stood up and felt my head began to throb. "If that's the way you want to play, then fine, I'll play by your rules!" I stomped my way over to my side of the field and pulled out Typhon's Poke Ball. "Come on out, Typhon!" I let him out and he noticed Will, preparing for a battle.

However, he then turned to me, and said in a timid voice, "Daddy, are you okay?"

I calmed down a little and said telepathically, "No, Typhon, I'm afraid I'm not okay. When Will knocked out Monarch, he called him pathetic." Typhon became enraged at that, his back flames flaring up to show it, and he turned to face him. "Let's show him what true strength is."

"Right, daddy."

"Typhon, time to show him how strong you really are, use Flamethrower!"

"Pidgey, use Gust to blow it away!" Typhon exhaled a blast of flames as Pidgey flapped its wings at high speed, the two colliding and seemingly at a stalemate

"Don't give up Typhon, give it all you've got!" Typhon began putting more juice into it's flames, and the robed men began to gasp in worry.

"Please, you must stop!" One of the men on Will's side shouted. "The tower will burn down if you continue." Typhon kept adding more juice, and eventually the Pidgey grew tired and the Flamethrower broke through the Gust. The Pidgey was hit with the full power of the Flamethrower, and Typhon stopped after it hit. The Pidgey fell, severely burned and fainted. Will returned the Pidgey and I noticed I was panting as well as Typhon.

'Why am I panting like this? The last time it happened was when I battled Oak, but I still have no idea what's going on.' One of the robed men blew out Will's second lantern, and I thought to myself, 'Only one to go. No doubt who it is.'

"Jason!" I turned to see not only Janice but also Meema approaching from behind.

The men stopped them and Will called out, "Ah, Janice, so glad you could finally join us. You're about to see me wipe the floor with this guy."

"Will, you're an insensitive jerk!" Janice shouted.

Will shouted back, "Don't call me that! You were my girlfriend and you dumped me just because some chump jumps in the way of harm."

"Like you didn't!?" I shouted back. "I'd be willing to bet that even if your were standing right next to Janice, you'd still run away like a scared little Lillipup." He was about to shout something back when he realized I shouted out the name of a Pokemon he didn't even know about. "Now let's end this, Will."

Will pulled out his third Poke Ball and called out, "Let's show them who's boss Typhoon!" As soon as it appeared, I was surprised to see that it had evolved into a Croconaw.

"Croc!" "You!"

Typhon readied himself and Will smirked. "Looks like my Pokemon evolved first. What's worse is that Typhoon knows some new tricks."

"That's right, so prepare to be quenched, runt." Both Typhon and I heard that, making us both enraged. Unfortunately for Will, Typhon's also learned a new trick.

"Typhoon, use Water Gun!"

"Typhon, Quick Attack!" Will was surprised when I called out that move and was even more surprised when Typhon began using the attack to dodge the Water Gun.

"Hose him down, Typhoon!" Typhoon began to adjust its aim, the Water Gun spraying everywhere. Typhon was having a hard time dodging and was eventually hit with a big splash of water. Typhon fell, unable to finish its attack, and Will ordered Typhoon to attack again. Typhon did his best to dodge, again using Quick Attack, but he still got hit.

"Now end it with Bite!" Typhoon stopped the Water Gun and lunged for Typhon. Typhon had no time to dodge and Typhoon bit down hard on Typhon's neck and upper body.

"Gaaahhh!" Typhon screamed out. "Daddy!"

I couldn't take it anymore and shouted, "STOP IT!" Typhoon was suddenly forced off of Typhon and was thrown back into the wall, creating a Croconaw sized dent in the wall and almost blowing out Will's final lantern. I ran over to Typhon and picked him up. "Typhon, please wake up! Typhon!" I could sense he was still there but just barely. That Bite attack did more than just damage to Typhon, it nearly killed him.

"I'm..." I heard Typhon weakly say, "I'm okay, Daddy." I hugged him, glad that he could still speak, and nearly came to tears.

I pulled out his Poke Ball and returned him, "Get some rest, kid." Typhon nodded before he was returned and I stood up. I clenched my hands into fists as my second lantern was snuffed out.

"You..." I said silently.

"You..." I said louder, looking towards Will.

"You almost killed him!" I shouted at the top of my lungs. "You almost killed him with that attack!" Will was clearly scared and I felt a surge of energy rush through me. "Bellsprout, end this!" I shouted, tossing out my third Poke Ball. Bellsprout appeared and I said, "Use Vine Whip!" Bellsprout extended its vines towards Typhoon and grabbed hold of it. It pulled it out and dropped it onto the floor.

"Now, use PoisonPowder!" Bellsprout shot out a ball of purple spores, which easily hit its target.

"Now use Wrap!" Bellsprout began to wrap Typhoon in more vines, squeezing it so it dealt more damage. Finally, Typhoon's eyes turned to swirls and I ordered Bellsprout to stop. Will's final lantern was put out, meaning he had lost. He fell to his knees, realizing he had been defeated once again, and I returned Bellsprout.

"Now you're trapped here until dawn. As we agreed." Will was unresponsive and I suddenly felt light-headed. I began to fall back until I was caught by someone. I looked up and saw Meema had caught me, and she helped me back up. Janice caught me in a hug, and all I could do was hug back.

She pulled me off and Meema said, "Well, it seems that you've had quite the adventure. How about we head back and get some rest?" I nodded, a smile on my face, and we began to leave.

As soon as we passed the lanterns, Will suddenly stood up and ran towards us. He was stopped by the robed men, but was able to shout, "Janice, stop! Don't trust him! He's a freak! You saw what he did to Typhoon! He's a freak!"

But his words fell on deaf ears as we made our way out of the tower. I stumbled a little bit, due to my light-headedness, but Meema and Janice helped me out. We finally made it to the Pokemon Center and Nurse Joy noticed us come in.

"Well, it seems you've found him," she said, apparantly aware of the situation. I told Meema and Janice that I would meet them up there after healing my Pokemon and they went up to the room. I walked over to Nurse Joy and asked her to heal my Pokemon. "Of course, just hand them to me and I'll sure they're all fine." I handed her Monarch's and Bellsprout's Poke Balls, but I hesitated on Typhon's. "Is something wrong?"

"Typhon got hurt really bad from a Bite attack." Nurse Joy seemed to understand and she placed the other two in the healing machine. She led me into the back room again and she asked me to let him out onto an incubator. I did and Typhon was still pretty weak, lying down on his stomach. She pressed a few buttons on the keyboard and the machine hummed to life. "I'll have to run some tests on him, but he should be fine in the morning. Just let him rest."

"Is it okay if I stay here for a while longer." Nurse Joy nodded and she left to do something else. I sat in a chair next to the incubator and Ilooked at Typhon. I could still hear his screams of pain, and it pained me just to see him like this.

I closed my eyes and tried to telepathically speak with him, "Typhon, stay strong. Please, stay strong for Daddy." Nurse Joy asked me to leave a few minutes later and I spared one last glance at him before I left. I went back up to my room and climbed up to the bunk.

"Jason," I heard Meema telepathically say to me, "Typhon will be alright. Just wait, you'll see." I blocked Meema out of my thoughts, and created a new link to Typhon.

"Typhon, I'm right here. I'll always be there for you. Always." I drifted off to sleep as the last word echoed in my mind.

I think I'll leave you guys in suspense with this chapter. R&R, PM, and I'll see you guys again.
